The dealership&#8217;s general manager, Irina Ellis, said, &#8220;Now is the time for these consumers to be out here looking for vehicles before any price changes take effect.&#8221;&nbsp;
According to<a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/new-car-prices-could-be-15-000-higher-under-trumps-tariffs-and-no-one-wins-wall-street-analyst-says-522addcb?"> Marketwatch</a>, Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives estimates new car prices could rise by $5,000 and $15,000. However, the exact amount would depend on the model and brand.
Fears of significant price hikes fuel the urgency. Like many auto industry experts, Ives expects prices on some models to surge. Ives told<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFvx327UxDc"> Bloomberg</a> while referencing the tariffs, &#8220;It would be a back breaker for the auto industry globally.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to <a href="https://mediaroom.kbb.com/2024-08-13-New-Vehicle-Sales-Incentives-Climb-Higher-in-July,-According-to-Kelley-Blue-Book-Estimates">Kelley Blue Book,</a> the average transaction price of a new vehicle in July was $48,401. <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/goldman-cuts-us-auto-sales-estimate-by-nearly-1-million-units-due-tariffs-2025-04-10/">Reuters</a> reports that auto tariffs would increase car prices by an estimated $2,000 to $4,000 over the next 6 to 12 months, as automakers pass on higher import and production costs to consumers.
Used car prices aren&#8217;t safe either—dealers predict they&#8217;ll rise as new car inventories shrink. CarEdge co-founder Ray Shefska <a href="https://caredge.com/guides/car-price-predictions-for-2025?">predicts </a>that tariffs will impact the used car market if they continue for an extended period. If they drive new car prices higher, more buyers will pivot to the used car market. Higher demand for used cars would naturally drive prices higher.
Beyond sticker shock, automakers are bracing for higher production costs, which could impact jobs and supply chains. The manufacturing hubs of Michigan, Ontario and Mexico may see layoffs as companies adjust to the new economic reality.

'Liberation Day' Tariffs? Why Some Americans Are Rushing To Buy A Car Before Trump's 25% Auto Duty Hits

A new report highlights the growth of several automotive brands, as Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) saw its market share decline in the U.S.<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/electric-vehicle"> electric vehicle sector</a> in the first quarter.
What Happened: A political push by Tesla CEO Elon Musk has <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/25/02/43447273/tesla-sales-drop-12-in-california-is-elon-musks-support-for-donald-trump-hurting-ev-sales">led to protests </a>at Tesla dealerships and lower sales of the leading electric vehicle company in the United States and around the world.
A new Cox Automotive <a href="https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-insights/q1-2025-ev-sales/">report</a>, shared by <a href="https://www.teslarati.com/best-selling-ev-brands-us-q1-2025/">Teslarati</a>, highlights the top-selling electric vehicle companies and models in the United States for the first quarter.
The report estimates that 296,227 electric vehicles were sold in the United States in the first quarter, up 11.4% year over year. According to the report, new EVs made up around 7.5% of the overall U.S. new car sales in the quarter.
For comparison, the overall U.S. EV market sold 1.3 million new vehicles in 2024, a record. That figure was up 7.3% year over year.

Winners and Losers: Tesla remained the U.S. leader by a wide margin, outselling the following top 10 companies combined. However, the EV leader saw its overall U.S. sales down 8.6% year over year.
Here were the top EV sellers in the first quarter by units sold, according to the report:

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and General Motors (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>), which owns Chevrolet, ranked second and third for the quarter. Ford saw 11.5% overall year-over-year growth in the quarter.
Several of General Motors&#8217; brands saw strong growth, including Chevrolet, which had first-quarter sales up 114.2% year over year.
Porsche led the way as a brand with a 249% year-over-year increase in the first quarter, followed by Toyota (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>) at +196%, GMC at +183, Subaru at 173% and Volvo at +173%.
Outside of Tesla, other decliners included Lexus (-9%), Mini (-16%), Kia (-24%), Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) (-37%) and Mercedes-Benz (-58%).
These were the top-selling EV models in the U.S. in the quarter:

Tesla had three of the top 10 selling models in the quarter with the Model Y and Model 3 significantly ahead of the competition. The Ford F-150 Lightning sold better than the Cybertruck in the quarter though.
What's Next: Tesla continues to be the market leader in the U.S., but its market share has fallen in recent years with increased competition and now brand power concerns.
Tesla's U.S. quarterly sales are down 26% from their peak according to the report with the company's overall U.S. auto market share now around 3%, down from 5% in 2023.
Cox Automotive predicts volatility for electric vehicles sales in the U.S. for the rest of 2025 depending on automotive tariffs and the ending of EV credits.
"The year certainly started strong, but the road ahead will be anything but smooth," Cox Automotive analyst Stephanie Valdez Streaty said.

Shares of auto-related stocks are trading lower as global markets continue to decline following President Trump's announcement of sweeping tariffs.

Toyota Motor Corp&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>) sports car lineup for 2026 includes the GR86 Yuzu Edition, which has a richer exterior color than its predecessor, the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/n44639814/toyota-brightens-the-city-streets-with-new-gr86-yuzu-edition" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0</a>, the company announced Thursday.
Based on the GR86 Premium grade, the special edition will feature 18-inch matte-black wheels and other stunning black accents throughout the vehicle.
On the inside, the Yuzu edition features a black interior with yellow accents.

Customers can customize their vehicle by adding accessories like a cat-back exhaust with GR logo silver-colored tips and a body kit to the Yuzu edition for even more self-expression.
For the 2026 model year, the GR86 will be available in three grades: GR86, GR86 Premium, and the GR86 Yuzu edition. All grades will offer a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and be powered by a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine.&nbsp;
The GR86 will arrive at Toyota dealerships in the fall of 2025. In 2026, only 860 Yuzu editions will be assembled for the North American market.

According to JPMorgan&#8217;s Akira Kishimoto, Japanese automakers could face a potential hit of 4.46 trillion yen (about $29.44 billion). Given its resilience and strong fundamentals, Toyota remains JPMorgan&#8217;s top pick.

President Trump Announces 25% Auto Tariffs

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>) shares are<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/n44589158/toyota-motor-north-america-reports-march-first-quarter-2025-u-s-sales-results" rel="noreferrer noopener"> trading lower on Tuesday.</a>
Toyota Motor North America, or TMNA reported a solid performance for the first quarter of 2025, with total U.S. sales rising by 0.9% on a volume basis to 570,269 vehicles compared to the same period last year. On a daily selling rate (DSR) basis, first-quarter sales rose 3.6%.
Electrified vehicle sales under TMNA surged by 39.6% (volume basis), representing 50.6% of the total sales volume.

Trump Imposes 25% Tariffs On Auto Imports, Says 'This Will Continue To Spur Growth' — Canada, EU Slam The Move

That&#8217;s advice Tesla (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) shareholders may wish the company&#8217;s CEO, Elon Musk, had taken to heart. Shares are down more than 32% this year, as Musk&#8217;s heavy involvement with the new administration has cratered Tesla&#8217;s electric vehicle (EV) sales.
Tesla sales are down 40% in Europe compared to last year, even as total EV sales soared by 26%. The picture is only slightly rosier in the U.S., with Tesla sales down 11% in January. In China, the world&#8217;s largest market for electric vehicles, Tesla has been overtaken by a domestic rival for the first time.
But all this bad news for Tesla has been great news for other EV makers.&nbsp;
Here are four non-Tesla EV stocks set to profit from soaring EV sales.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">BYD Company Ltd. </h2>
News of BYD Company's (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYDDY#OTC">BYDDY</a>) battery breakthrough earlier this month sent the stock to new all-time highs. BYD's new Super-E platform promises to provide a range of 249 miles with a simple five-minute charge, easing a major customer concern. However, investors with keen eyes have had BYD on their radar for a while, as the stock has risen 88% in the last 12 months (including a 43% rip over the previous three). As mentioned above, the company is now outselling Tesla in China, and the government has been providing very accommodating policies.

BYD is a conglomerate with several divisions. BYD Auto is the most well-known, thanks to its electric and hybrid vehicles and battery charging solutions. Still, the company also has BYD Electronics and FinDream, which manufacture electronic parts, vehicle components and batteries. The automotive division brings in 80% of the company's revenue. The stock trades at 32 times earnings, far cheaper than TSLA, and the chart shows signs of the uptrend continuing. The share price is firmly above both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) indicates that the upside momentum remains intact.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Volkswagen AG </h2>
The German automotive giant, Volkswagen Ag (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VWAGY#OTC">VWAGY</a>) is finally showing signs of breaking out of a multi-year downtrend. Tesla's losses in Europe have been Volkswagen's gains as registration numbers are skyrocketing for several of the firm's vehicles, including the newest top-selling European battery-powered EV: the Volkswagen ID.4. The Volkswagen ID.7 had the third most number of registrations to start the year, an upswing of more than 650%. On the plug-in hybrid side, the Volkswagen Tiguan is the second-highest-selling model in 2025, with an upstick of 250% over the previous period in 2024.

VWAGY trades at just 4.8 times earnings and pays a healthy 8% dividend yield. And let's not forget the stimulus set to be unleashed in Germany, some of which will surely find its way to automakers like Volkswagen.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Toyota Motors Corp. </h2>
Toyota Motors (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>) is the world&#8217;s largest automaker, with a market cap above $251 billion and an annual revenue of about $309 billion. Toyota is choosing to focus on plug-in hybrids over full-battery electric cars, and the RAV4 SUV is a top choice for customers looking for a mix of electric and gas power.

The company already has high margins, reporting a 20.32% gross margin rate and a 10.86% profit margin rate in the most recent quarter. The stock has a forward Price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 8.80 and a Price-to-sales (P/S) rate of 0.86, implying this $250 billion behemoth is undervalued. Additionally, the stock pays a 3.5% dividend yield and scored a 97.95 in Value and 98.51 in Quality on Benzinga Edge rankings, indicating both short- and medium-term upside. Another bullish signal was triggered recently as the stock price breached the 50-day moving average after nearly a year of trading below it.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Honda Motor Co Ltd. </h2>
Honda Motor (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HMC#NYSE">HMC</a>) may not dominate the automobile market share like Toyota. Still, the Tokyo-based manufacturer is known for its highly reliable and safe vehicles, such as the popular Honda Accord and Civic sedan models. The company also has several hybrids and electric cars on its line, including the plug-in versions of the Accord, Civi, and CR-V, a fully electric Honda Prologue, and the fuel cell-powered CR-V e-FCEV.

HMC scores a 99.67 in Value and 98.67 in Quality on Benzinga Edge; it trades at just 6.6 times forward earnings and 0.32 times sales. The stock hit a multi-year bottom in December 2024 but has since recovered from under $23 to over $30 to start 2025. Like Toyota, this stock is hovering near its 50-day moving average, which had previously acted as a resistance level. Toyota broke through this resistance.
