In Madrid, traffic reached a standstill after signals failed, prompting police to advise people to avoid unnecessary travel and drive cautiously. The Madrid Open tennis tournament was suspended and fans exited in the dark. At Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport, travelers waited in unlit terminals without air conditioning or running water, and shops only accepted cash.
Spain's national rail operator, Renfe, reported that the blackout stopped trains nationwide and led to canceled departures. Metro systems in Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia were also evacuated or shut down.
Portugal's grid operator, Redes Energéticas Nacionais, confirmed that the entire Iberian Peninsula lost electrical supply and some regions in France were also impacted. E-Redes, which manages electricity distribution in Portugal, described the incident as part of a broader European problem and began restoring connections in phases.
Spanish grid operator Red Electrica said it was working closely with energy companies to restore power. It stressed that the cause was under investigation and that all resources were being dedicated to resolving the issue. 
Early reports suggest the outage may have originated from a failure in a high-voltage interconnector in France, possibly linked to a fire that damaged a crucial power line. This disconnected the Iberian Peninsula from the European grid and triggered cascading failures. However, investigations are ongoing, and officials have not ruled out other causes, including cyberattacks.
Power restoration is underway, but authorities warn it may take hours or longer. That&#8217;s due to the complexity of restarting the grid after such a large-scale blackout. 
Markets React: European markets traded higher on Monday, with all sectors in positive territory despite the power outages. The Vanguard FTSE European ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VGK#NYSE">VGK</a>) was up 0.08% in premarket trading in New York.

Plug Power Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLUG#NASDAQ">PLUG</a>) announced Monday it has signed a deal for a secured debt facility and has achieved key operational and financial milestones that support its path toward profitability and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/g45035933/plug-power-signs-525-million-secured-credit-facility-with-yorkville-advisors-and-reports-strong-pr" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">long-term growth</a>. The stock price gained after the update.
Plug has inked a deal for a secured debt facility with Yorkville Advisors that will allow the issuance of up to $525 million of secured debentures.

The facility includes an initial $210 million tranche, which will be fully funded at the initial closing, as well as additional tranches of up to $315 million. The initial tranche will likely close by May 2, 2025.
With the net proceeds from the initial tranche, Plug intends to use approximately $82.5 million to retire the majority of its existing convertible debenture principal outstanding with Yorkville.
Plug will report its first-quarter 2025 results in early May. Plug expects to report revenue of approximately $130 million to $134 million for the first quarter of 2025, compared to the analyst consensus of $131.61 million. Plug expects second-quarter revenue of $140 million to $180 million, versus the analyst consensus of $160.20 million.
Plug expects first-quarter net cash usage of approximately $142 million compared to $268 million a year ago. The company ended March 31, 2025, with approximately $296 million in unrestricted cash.
Plug completed construction of its new 15 TPD hydrogen production plant in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. Operated through the Hidrogenii joint venture with Olin Corporation, this facility strengthens Plug&#8217;s vertically integrated hydrogen network and will serve anchor customers, including Amazon.Com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) and Walmart Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>).
Plug has taken decisive actions to reduce its operational cost base, implementing changes in the first quarter that will likely drive over $200 million in incremental annualized run-rate savings. These cost-cutting measures, which have been largely completed, include organizational realignment and a company-wide focus on manufacturing and supply chain efficiency. The full impact of these cost savings will begin to be reflected in the coming quarters.
Plug Power stock has plunged over 65% year-to-date <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/PLUG/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">after analysts cut</a> their price targets for the stock, as it failed to meet its quarterly revenue and EPS consensus.

The company announced the termination of a 2018 consent order from the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/b45036401/wells-fargo-confirms-termination-of-2018-cfpb-compliance-consent-order">Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)</a>.
What Happened: Wells Fargo on Monday confirmed that the CFPB&#8217;s consent order related to the company&#8217;s risk management program has been terminated, representing the twelfth consent order closed by Wells Fargo regulators since 2019. 
&#8220;Today&#8217;s termination, along with the recent closure of other consent orders, demonstrates that we have completed much of our common risk and control infrastructure work, including work that is required by other orders,&#8221; said Charlie Scharf, CEO of Wells Fargo.
&#8220;I am proud of the work done by our teams and remain confident that we will complete the work needed to close our other open consent orders. Wells Fargo is a different and stronger company today as we focus on creating long-term value for our customers, clients, communities and shareholders.&#8221;

Sustained bullish momentum above this area would then open the path to our next reference at 551.33. Holding steadily above 551.33 through regular trading could encourage further upside to 552.50, with the ultimate bullish objective today set at 553.66.
Conversely, if 549.67 fails to maintain support, sellers are expected to target 549.00 initially. Increased bearish activity could then lead to a deeper probe down to 548.13. Should selling accelerate aggressively past 548.13, we expect a firm test of support at 547.56. In a highly bearish scenario, the lower boundary for SPY today is projected at 546.46.
Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 (QQQ)
The QQQ is trading around our critical point of 471.33. Bulls must actively defend this mark and demonstrate enough strength to push upward, first to 474.66. Solidifying above 474.66 would enhance bullish conviction and potentially drive prices up to 476.85. Robust buyer activity throughout the session could extend this advance towards 479.03, with our top bullish expectation today at 481.73.
On the downside, if the market struggles around 471.33, sellers are likely to seize the opportunity, initially targeting 469.27. Continued bullish activity could push Apple shares even higher to the level at 212.44. Sustained buying strength could then lead Apple to test the upper bullish target for today at 214.07.
Should support at 209.81 fail to hold during the trading session, sellers would likely test the lower boundary at 208.81. A continued bearish move could pressure the price further down to 207.93. Sustained selling could extend downward pressure towards 207.18, with a breakdown possibly leading Apple to our lowest bearish target of 206.55.
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)
Microsoft shares are hovering close to our central pivot at 390.98. Bulls seek a definitive move above 392.49 to solidify buying momentum and challenge the next upside target at 393.47. A successful retest of 393.47 as reliable support could encourage bullish traders to pursue higher levels, starting with 394.46. If support at 390.98 weakens significantly, bearish traders are expected to first test downside levels near 389.29. Reports from the weekend indicated that China&#8217;s Huawei Technologies has developed an AI chip to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/04/45033025/nvidia-faces-new-challenge-as-huawei-tests-powerful-ascend-910d-ai-chip-amid-us-sanctions-aiming-to-disrupt-high-end-market-report">directly challenge Nvidia</a>. 
What To Know: Huawei has developed a new AI processor called Ascend 910D that it hopes will be a replacement for some higher-end chips made by Nvidia, the Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/chinas-huawei-develops-new-ai-chip-seeking-to-match-nvidia-8166f606">reported</a> on Sunday. 
People familiar with the matter said Huawei already approached some Chinese technology companies with intentions of testing the technical practicability of the new chip. 
Development of the chip is still in the early stages, but the company could reportedly receive its first sample batches by late May. This latest version of the company&#8217;s Ascend AI processor is expected to be more powerful than Nvidia's H100.
The news comes after Nvidia said in a regulatory filing earlier this month that the U.S. government informed the company that it will <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/04/44828742/nvidia-stock-is-tumbling-after-hours-heres-why">need a license</a> to export&nbsp;certain chips to China, focused on the company&#8217;s H20 chips.
A license will also be required for any other circuits achieving the H20&#8217;s memory bandwidth, interconnect bandwidth, or a combination thereof, Nvidia said in the filing.

As a result of the restrictions, Nvidia said it expects its first-quarter financial results to include up to $5.5 billion of charges associated with H20 products held in inventory. Nvidia&#8217;s fiscal first quarter ended on Sunday and the company is due to report financial results for the period next month.
Analysts currently expect the chipmaker to report earnings of 88 cents per share and revenue of $43.09 billion, according to estimates from <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. 
Huawei&#8217;s new chip is the latest version of its Ascend processor, with previous versions being called 910B and 910C. The report indicates that the Chinese chipmaker is expected to ship more than 800,000 Ascend 910B and 910C chips to customers this year. Some buyers are also reportedly in talks to increase orders following the chip restrictions from the Trump administration. 
NVDA Price Action: <a href="http://benzinga.com/quote/nvda">Nvidia shares</a> were down 0.96% at $109.94 at the time of publication Monday, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>.

<li>Adjusted operating income was $170 million compared to $166 million for the same period a year ago. </li>
<li>Adjusted operating profit margin was 25.6% compared to 25.5% in the same period a year ago.</li>
<li>The company&#8217;s life sciences segment <a href="https://s202.q4cdn.com/560601150/files/doc_financials/2025/q1/1Q25-Quarterly-Investor-Presentation-vFinal.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">saw</a> revenue tick up 1% to $340 million. In addition, organic revenue increased by 2%, diagnostics sales increased 3% year-over-year to $324 million, and organic diagnostics revenue increased 5%.</li>

Guidance: Revvity affirms the fiscal year 2025 adjusted EPS of $4.90-$5.00 versus consensus of $4.94.
The company raised its 2025 sales guidance from $2.8 billion to $2.85 billion, compared to the consensus of $2.83 billion.
The guidance reflects the impact of foreign currency exchange at -0.5% rates and assumes 3%-5% organic revenue growth.
The company forecasts a 2025 adjusted operating margin of 27.9%-28.1%.
Price Action: Revvity stock is up 5% at $99 during the premarket session at the last check Monday.
