The upward momentum in the stock comes after the FDA approved the company&#8217;s Zepbound, a weight loss drug designed to treat moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/health-care/24/12/42637278/eli-lillys-zepbound-receives-fda-approval-for-obesity-linked-sleep-apnea-drug">in adults with obesity.</a>
What To Know: After the market close on Friday, Eli Lilly announced FDA approval of Zepbound (tirzepatide) as the first prescription medicine for adults with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea and obesity.
Obstructive sleep apnea is estimated to affect 50 million to 80 million people in the U.S., with an estimated 20 million suffering from moderate-to-severe forms. Clinical trials demonstrated the drug's efficacy, with nearly half of patients on the highest dose showing significant improvement in their apnea-hypopnea index, a primary diagnostic metric.
&#8220;Today, many cases of OSA go undiagnosed and untreated, leaving millions at risk for serious health consequences,&#8221; said Patrik Jonsson, executive vice president, and president of Lilly Cardiometabolic Health and Lilly USA. &#8220;Zepbound is the first medication that significantly improves moderate-to-severe OSA and aids in long-term weight loss in adults with obesity.&#8221;
The approval is expected to impact insurance coverage for Zepbound, potentially expanding Medicare benefits for obesity-related treatments. In addition to improved obstructive sleep apnea symptoms, adults on Zepbound lost an average of 45 lbs (18%) of their body weight in Phase 3 trials.
The approval also positions Eli Lilly ahead of competitors like Novo Nordisk, whose Wegovy lacks approval for sleep apnea. The company's ongoing $3 billion investment in manufacturing capacity underscores its focus on meeting demand for its diabetes and obesity treatments.

The Details: The CFPB has <a href="https://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsroom/cfpb-sues-walmart-and-branch-messenger-for-illegally-opening-deposit-accounts-for-more-than-one-million-delivery-drivers/#:~:text=WASHINTON%2C%20D.C.%20%E2%80%93%20Today%2C%20the,they%20could%20access%20their%20earnings">alleged</a> that Walmart and Branch Messenger forced drivers to open deposit accounts filled with junk fees. The regulator sued Walmart and Branch Messenger on Monday for requiring drivers to use costly deposit accounts to get paid and deceiving drivers about how they could access earnings.
The suit claims that Walmart opened accounts for &#8220;last mile&#8221; drivers in its Spark Driver program and told workers that they would be fired if they did not use the specific accounts. Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that Walmart misled drivers about the availability of same-day access to earnings. 
"Walmart made false promises, illegally opened accounts, and took advantage of more than a million delivery drivers," said CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. "Companies cannot force workers into getting paid through accounts that drain their earnings with junk fees."

The lawsuit claims that drivers were forced to navigate a complicated process to access their funds, and then encountered additional delays or fees when they opted to transfer the money to an account of their choice.
The government oversight agency stated that Spark Drivers paid over $10 million in junk fees to Branch Messenger in order to instantly transfer their earnings to a different account. 
The CFPB also claimed that Branch engaged in other illegal practices including failing to investigate errors, honor stop payment requests, maintain records and provide required disclosures.
According to Reuters, Branch Messenger representatives rejected the claims and accused the CFPB of &#8220;rushing&#8221; to file a lawsuit in an attempt to gain media traction. 
&#8220;Branch stands behind its model and services and we will defend this action vigorously,&#8221; the company reportedly said.

The growth is principally advertising, which accounts for 98% of sales, and AI-driven. AI is driving up daily usage on Facebook and Instagram, bolstering reel traction and improving ad efficiency.
Meta uses AI to adjust ad loads better, improve action sequences tied to targeting and executing ads, and help advertisers create and manage campaigns, Rosenblatt explained.
Ad revenue rose 19% in the third quarter of 2024, only 300 bps slower than the 22% growth of the second quarter of 2024, despite an 11.5 percentage point stiffer comparison.
From here, comparisons are steadier, suggesting recent traction can continue.
Frankel estimates 19% revenue growth in the fourth quarter of 2024, within the 12% to 20% guidance. We sustain that growth estimate into 2025.
With this revenue growth, Meta has room to absorb more investment.
The analyst assumes capex would increase 20% in 2025 to $46.6 billion, nearly flat as a percentage of sales. Hea also expects expense growth of 14% in 2025, accelerating from an 11% rise in 2024, and has adjusted EBITDA margins rising 110 bps to 62.6%.
Meta has nearly 3.3 billion people using its family of services daily. Its revenue growth affords more AI investment growth than others, a backdrop allowing AI-driven marketing services to improve more than others. With its business primarily performance marketing, a better marketing mousetrap supports share gains, the analyst says.
One risk is global trade volatility. Out-of-region revenue (mainly China and Asia marketers buying ads in the US) was 7% of Meta ad revenue in 2023 and dropped to 5% in the third quarter of 2024.
One could imagine a trade war generating disruption once President-elect Trump officially takes office. However, it is not clear that Trump wants that. He may be threatening tariffs to seek concessions. In a trade war, Chinese and Asian marketers like Temu and Shein could also react by sourcing more locally, supporting continued marketing.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Meta And TikTok</h2>
TikTok could be a hedge.
If the Supreme Court allows the law requiring a TikTok sale or ban to stand, then TikTok&#8217;s fate would rest in Trump&#8217;s hands, and he would have the ability to interpret and enforce legislation or push for new legislation.
His recent statements of support for TikTok suggest that he believes trade concessions from China could be won in return for keeping the app.
Alternatively, a whole-out trade war could result in Trump allowing a TikTok ban to come into effect.

TXG is a life science technology company that develops and sells instruments, consumables, and software for analyzing biological systems internationally. The company offers chromium, chromium connect, and chromium controller instruments, microfluidic chips, slides, reagents, and other consumables products.
On October 31, TXG and Cure51, a French TechBio startup, announced that Cure51 will deploy 10x Genomics' Visium HD for its pioneering work to analyze the unique biology of exceptional cancer survivors, whose survival mechanisms could hold the key to new therapeutic approaches.
On October 15, TXG launched two new Chromium products intended to democratize access to single-cell analysis. The company's new offerings, GEM-X Flex and GEM-X Universal Multiplex, introduce significant improvements in performance, workflow, and cost-effectiveness, enabling more researchers to pursue single-cell analysis for more applications.
During the third quarter that ended September 30, 2024, TXG's total consumables revenue increased 10.3% year-over-year to $126.20 million, and its total revenue came in at $151.65 million. The company's gross profit was $106.39 million for the quarter, up 11.4% from the prior year's quarter.
