Airtel Taps Nokia's Packet Core And Automation Solutions To Speed Up 5G Standalone Service Delivery

Nokia Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NOK#NYSE">NOK</a>) has reached a patent licensing agreement with Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), granting the e-commerce giant access to Nokia&#8217;s video technologies for its streaming services and devices.
The agreement revealed on Monday settles all outstanding <a href="https://www.nokia.com/about-us/news/releases/2025/03/31/nokia-and-amazon-sign-patent-agreement/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">patent </a>disputes between the two firms in multiple regions.
The financial and contractual details of the agreement have been kept confidential, as mutually agreed upon by both parties; this agreement represents a key resolution between the technology companies.

Over the past 25 years, the Finnish telecom giant has developed nearly 5,000 innovations that improve multimedia products and services.
The company has made significant investments in research and development, surpassing 150 billion euros (~$162 billion) since 2000. In 2024 alone, it allocated over 4.5 billion euros to further innovations in cellular networks and multimedia technologies.
The agreement grants Amazon the ability to incorporate Nokia&#8217;s patented video technologies into its streaming services and devices, aiming to enhance efficiency and optimize content delivery.

The financial benefit won&#8217;t directly touch consumers&#8217; wallets. &#8220;In the short term, telecom companies will likely use AI-driven efficiency to increase their profits as they recover infrastructure investment costs. Over time, as AI optimizes network operations, consumers could see more competitive pricing and improved services — similar to how cloud services have evolved.&#8221; 
In the long run, with AI optimizing network operations, customers may experience more competitive rates and better services.
But, AI-driven networks may create a divide between telecom and tech giants. &#8220;Companies like AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure are expanding into telecom with AI-driven cloud services. Traditional telecom providers that fail to adapt may struggle to compete with these tech-driven companies,&#8221; she noted.

The product is designed to provide seamless high-speed connectivity throughout the home.
The gateway features high-gain antennas (up to 8 dBi) and dual-band Wi-Fi 7, the new 5G gateway offers a self-installable solution for consumers.
With support for 4-carrier aggregation and up to 300MHz bandwidth, it optimizes radio capacity, enhances coverage, and maximizes throughput.
Additionally, the 5G Gateway 4 integrates 8RX and 3TX capabilities for improved spectrum efficiency and faster speeds.
Wi-Fi 7's multi-link operation (MLO) further enhances performance by allowing devices to transmit and receive data simultaneously across multiple bands and channels, delivering up to 4Gbps of in-home Wi-Fi capacity.
Nokia's Gateway 4, powered by Corteca software, offers embedded apps, cloud-based Wi-Fi optimization, and device management with EasyMesh.
Nokia now offers four Wi-Fi 7 gateway models, enhancing 5G FWA services and providing operators with a seamless 5G and Wi-Fi 7 experience for homes.

This week, the company disclosed a contract with Worldstream to adopt Nokia's network security technology to safeguard businesses in the Netherlands and worldwide <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/contracts/25/03/44356033/nokia-enhances-ddos-mitigation-capacity-for-worldstream-upgrades-hetzners-data-centers" rel="noreferrer noopener">from large-scale DDoS attacks</a>.
Also, Nokia won a contract from&nbsp;Hetzner to upgrade its data center and&nbsp;core&nbsp;network infrastructure.&nbsp;

Nokia Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NOK#NYSE">NOK</a>) shares remained flattish premarket on Monday after the Finnish multinational telecommunications company&nbsp;disclosed two major deals.
The first one <a target="_blank" href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2025/03/17/3043424/0/en/Nokia-strengthens-Worldstream-s-hosting-security-with-advanced-DDoS-Protection-in-the-Netherlands.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">is </a>a contract with Worldstream to adopt Nokia&#8217;s network security technology to safeguard businesses in the Netherlands and worldwide from large-scale DDoS attacks.
By deploying Nokia Deepfield Defender and 7750 SR routers across its network, Worldstream has increased its DDoS mitigation capacity eightfold.
This enhancement enables customers to benefit from rapid, network-based protection against complex, high-volume cyber threats, including AI-driven attacks.
Matthieu Bourguignon, Senior Vice President for Network Infrastructure, Europe at Nokia said, &#8220;We see that for hosting providers, traditional DDoS mitigation methods are no longer sufficient. With the Nokia Deepfield solution, Worldstream is now equipped with high-capacity, network-based protection that reacts instantly, rapidly detecting and eliminating threats before they impact businesses.&#8221;

The other contract win was from&nbsp;Hetzner to upgrade its data center and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2025/03/17/3043423/0/en/Nokia-and-Hetzner-enhance-hosting-infrastructure-for-scalable-automated-and-sustainable-services-across-Europe.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">core </a>network infrastructure.&nbsp;
Hetzner has optimized its network with Nokia&#8217;s carrier-grade routing solutions, enhancing ultra-reliable, high-performance connectivity while simplifying operations.
The deployment, already live in Germany and Finland, will expand across Europe to meet rising digital infrastructure demands.
Nokia&#8217;s energy-efficient routers, combined with advanced automation and real-time telemetry, offer Hetzner the visibility and resilience needed to support next-generation workloads.
