(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) has filed a fresh trademark application for the wordmark "Tesla Robotaxi" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) after the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45278182/elon-musks-cybercab-ambitions-face-latest-snag-teslas-robotaxi-trademark-filing-refused-by-authorities">agency previously rejected </a>its application.
What Happened: The EV giant applied for the trademark with the agency on May 30, the filing shows. Currently, the filing is yet to be reviewed by an examining attorney, but has been accepted by the USPTO.
This agency stated that the filing by Tesla for the trademark "Robotaxi" was too generic, as the term Robotaxi is also used by ride-sharing companies to describe self-driving cabs.

Khosrowshahi pointed out that the percentage of 16- and 18-year-olds getting licenses has dropped significantly. He called it a clear sign that personal car ownership no longer holds the same value it once did. &#8220;If you look at the percentage of 16- or 18-year-olds who are getting their license, that percentage is coming down significantly,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I think it used to be two-thirds, but now it's probably in the 50 percent range.&#8221;
Asked if his son's reluctance to drive was a sign of Uber's success or that of a popular video game Fortnite, Khosrowshahi quipped, "Probably the two are mixed. I also think it's an indication of the urbanization of our populations, but I haven't actually looked into whether heavy Fortnite players are Uber users as well. I suspect they may be. According to the latest <a href="https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/policyinformation/statistics/2023/pdf/dl22.pdf">data</a> from the U.S. Department of Transportation, just under 4% of licensed drivers in the country are 19 or younger. That's a big drop from decades past. In 1983, 46% of all 16-year-olds had a license. By 2019, that number was 25%.
For 18-year-olds, the decline is similar: from 80% with a license in 1983 down to 58% in 2022.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Gen Z Isn't Driving</h2>
Young people are skipping licenses for a bunch of reasons. Many don't need a car to connect with friends anymore—they're online all the time. Others use ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYFT#NASDAQ">LYFT</a>), or stick to public transit and biking. Driving anxiety is also playing a role.

According to a 2023 <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/parenting/2023/02/21/teens-not-driving/">Washington Post</a> report, aggressive driving and road rage were on the rise. Combined with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/mental-health">mental health</a> challenges, some teens now see driving as stressful, not exciting.
Gen Z's hesitance has big implications for the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/05/45275248/uber-ceo-dara-khosrowshahi-says-average-waymo-in-austin-is-busier-than-99-of-human-drivers">future of transportation</a>, especially for a company like Uber. Trading in Lyft, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYFT#NASDAQ">LYFT</a>) is quiet Friday. But that may not be the case for long. There is a good chance the shares are <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/ride-sharing">about to head lower</a>.

You can see on the chart that the shares have found support around $15.40. This level first became support in February 2024. It was also support in March and April 2024.

Then in February 2025, the level converted into resistance. This happened because of regretful buyers.
Many of the people who bought Lyft at the support regretted doing so when the stock dropped below it. Many decided to hold on to their losing positions. But they also decided that if they could ever exit at breakeven, they would.

As a result, when the shares rallied back to $15.40 in February 2025, they placed sell orders. The large amount of these orders formed resistance at the same price that had been support.
Now Lyft has found support at this level again. This is because of seller's remorse.
Many of the traders and investors who sold at the resistance regretted doing so when the resistance broke and the stock moved higher. Some of them decided that if they eventually could, they would buy their shares back at the same price they were sold for.
So now that the price has fallen back to this level, these remorseful sellers are placing buy orders. The large concentration of these orders formed support at the same price that had been resistance.
But this support may be about to break.
When support breaks, it means the investors and traders who created the support with their buy orders are gone. They either finished or canceled their orders.
This means if new sellers enter the market, they will need to be aggressive and undercut each other if they want to draw buyers back into the market. If this happens, it could force the price of Lyft lower.

Uber and Lyft shares are trading lower after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Tesla has been testing self-driving Model Y cars on Austin public streets with no incidents.

In development since 2018, Mobileye&#8217;s 4D imaging radar was designed to provide sensor redundancy through superior perception in challenging lighting, environmental, and traffic scenarios, complementing camera-based perception at affordable costs. This is intended to enable safe and scalable autonomous driving systems, from robotaxis to consumer AVs.
Mobileye Global stock plunged 15% year-to-date. He noted that Lyft has introduced several key growth initiatives, including launching its Earnings Assistant, an industry-first tool powered by AI that helps drivers maximize their time on the road and optimize their earnings through personalized driving plans and real-time guidance.
He said Lyft has also introduced its Smooth Cruiser score, which gives drivers feedback on their performance and suggests ways to provide better rides.
Lyft continues to invest in multiple key growth initiatives, including targeting unrepresented demographics and geographies, along with ongoing technology innovation, as per Feinseth.
Lyft launched Lyft Silver, a service designed for adults 65 or older, an untapped demographic that makes up about 5% of Lyft riders. He noted that 70 million Americans are expected to reach 65 years or older by 2030.
The analyst said that Lyft focuses on targeted geographic growth, emphasizing smaller, car-dependent cities like Indianapolis, where rides grew 37% in the first quarter.
He noted that Lyft is actively expanding its advertising initiatives through its dedicated Lyft Media, which includes in-app ads, in-car displays, and exterior vehicle signage to engage riders and generate additional revenue.
Feinseth said Lyft is expanding internationally for the first time with the recent acquisition of the European taxi-handling app FREENOW.
The analyst noted that autonomous vehicle service will be a significant growth driver and catalyst as Lyft prepares to launch autonomous vehicle rides in cities including Atlanta and Dallas through partnerships with companies such as Mobileye Global Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MBLY#NASDAQ">MBLY</a>) and May Mobility.
Other growth drivers include Wait &amp; Save, which allows consumers to choose to wait a little longer and save some money. This indicates a willingness to offer discounts to attract demand, as per Feinseth.
Increases in ride volume and service initiatives combined with operating efficiencies and target market expansion are accelerating business performance trends, including increasing return on capital, positive economic profit, and a significant increase in shareholder value creation, as per the analyst.
He said that Lyft increased its share repurchase authorization to $750 million, with plans to purchase $500 million in stock over the next twelve months and $200 million within the next three months.
Feinseth noted that the shares have a significant upside, and his 12-month target price of $28 represents a potential return of close to 70% from current levels.

ARK Investment Management LLC's founder, Cathie Wood, agrees that Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) has suffered brand damage owing to CEO Elon Musk's close ties with the Trump administration as well as his activities with DOGE.
What Happened: "Brand damage, yes it has happened," Wood said in an interview with Bloomberg <a href="https://youtu.be/kz_M3R4ASEY?si=xuBy-1iVlMdPS-fE&amp;t=65">on</a> Monday.
However, she doesn't believe that the damage is long-term. "Tesla, we believe, will have a lock on the robotaxi business in the U.S.," Wood said. She then highlighted the company's upcoming robotaxi launch in Austin next month and reiterated her optimism.
"We believe they're going to proliferate through the United States. Especially if we move regulation from a state level to a federal level, which we believe will happen," she shared.
"What also hurt were macros," Wood said as she transitioned into the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's auto tariffs on the sector at large. She also acknowledged Musk's move away from DOGE as important. "The shock value of what he did was important," She shared.

"Eligible Lyft drivers who purchase a new Tesla vehicle can receive $1,000 in Tesla Credits upon taking delivery and a $1,000 incentive from Lyft after completing 100 trips on or before July 13, 2025," Tesla's <a href="https://www.tesla.com/lyft">website </a>says.
The credits can be used toward a Tesla vehicle, Supercharging, upgrade purchases, or service appointments. Lyft is also taking advantage of the promotions.
Lyft's <a href="https://www.lyft.com/driver/go-electric">website </a>says a $1,000 "incentive fee" is available for Lyft drivers in good standing who participate in the program, buy a Tesla from the EV company between May 15 and June 30, 2025, and give 100 rides on or before July 13, 2025.

Tesla is expected to launch its Robotaxi platform in June in Texas. Lyft has plans to launch autonomous rides next year according to the report. And yet, it&#8217;s Tesla and Lyft that are forging the partnership.
For Tesla, the stakes are high. Tesla also reportedly offered a $1,000 promotion on vehicles for teachers, students, retirees and active-duty members. Tesla previously offered the discount only to military members. But it now includes wives of active-duty members or surviving spouses.
Lyft also highlights the positives of having an electric vehicle while driving for a ride-share company. Its website lists lower maintenance costs, fuel savings, charging discounts, bonuses and government incentives. According to national data, Lyft drivers with an electric vehicle also earn 20% more in tips per ride.

Some traders seem to forget a basic principle of markets. They are driven by supply and demand. If there is more demand, or shares to be bought, than there is supply, or shares to be sold, they move higher. The opposite is true if there is more supply than demand.

This happens when some of the people who created the resistance with their sell orders start to undercut each other. They know the buyers will go to whoever is willing to sell at the lowest price. They don't want to miss out, so they reduce the prices they are willing to sell at.
This could result in a snowball effect that forces the price lower. This is what happened when Lyft hit resistance around $15.25 in November.
Sometimes the buyers eventually overpower the sellers at a resistance level. Investors call this a breakout. A new trend higher may follow. This happened yesterday.
Now the stock is getting close to $18.50. There is a good chance there is resistance around this price because it was resistance in November. Many of the people who bought shares then have held onto their losing positions since.
If the stock returns to $18.50, these remorseful buyers will place sell orders. If there are enough of these orders, resistance will be created again.

While Tesla is making tangible progress in testing its ride-hailing service internally in cities like Austin, Texas and San Francisco and applying for key permits in California, road-to-market dominance is far from assured.

&#8220;We expect unsupervised autonomy to sell more Teslas and increase the FSD take rate from its current 15% to 33%.&#8221; the investor said.
