The price of gold blew past the $3,000 mark in early trading Friday as investors navigate market turbulence driven by escalating trade tensions and economic uncertainty. Billionaire hedge funder John Paulson has stacked his <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44325928/gold-smashes-through-3000-mark-as-markets-brace-for-turbulence-and-fed-signals">portfolio with gold miners.&nbsp;</a>
According to Paulson &amp; Company's latest 13F filing, the fund increased its position in International Tower Hill Mines Ltd. (AMEX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/THM#AMEX">THM</a>) in the fourth quarter, adding over six million shares. The recent buys brought Paulson's total holdings to more than 70 million shares and a 37% stake in the mining company.

"There has been a significant increase in demand from central banks to replace dollars with gold, and we're just at the beginning of that trend. Gold will go up and the dollar will go down, so you'd be better off keeping your investment reserves in gold at this point," Paulson said.&nbsp;

This performance met its revised guidance at a mid-point, owing to strong production at the Essakane mine in Burkina Faso and the Westwood and Côté Gold mine in<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/canada" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Canada</a>.

IAMGOLD aims to stabilize operations in 2025, with Côté expected to double production to 250,000–280,000 ounces attributable by year-end as the mine targets its full design throughput of 36,000 tons per day.
Côté's output is the primary driver for higher expectations for 2025, set for 735,000–820,000 ounces. The company anticipates all-in-sustaining costs (AISC) of $1,625–$1,800 per ounce, with costs decreasing in the second half of the year as Côté achieves greater efficiency.
Naturally, Côté will be the firm's exploration focus in 2025. Out of the $38 million budget, $13 million will go to Côté's resource conversion and district-wide exploration. The rest will serve to further drill at Essakane and advance the Nelligan project, which sits in the historic Chibougamau camp in Québec.
Despite a relatively low debt-to-equity ratio of 24.5%, IAMGOLD manages capital expenditures carefully, including $290 million in sustaining capital and $20 million in expansion projects.
Key projects include installing an additional secondary crusher at Côté Gold and continued development at Westwood and Essakane.

2025 Outlook

U.S. stocks were higher, with the Dow Jones index gaining around 100 points on Thursday.
Shares of NIO Inc. Nio said it delivered 31,138 vehicles in December, representing a 72.9% year-over-year surge. Its deliveries surged 38.7% year-over-year to 221,970 vehicles in 2024.
Nio shares jumped 5.7% to $4.6100 on Thursday.
