Veteran investor, Arthur Richards Rule IV, better known as Rick Rule, is the latest expert to sound the alarm on the long-term stability of the U.S. Dollar, warning that decades of unchecked federal spending and unfunded liabilities could erode the greenback&#8217;s purchasing power over the next decade.
What Happened: Speaking with Kitco News over the weekend, Rule says that the U.S. Government&#8217;s $30 trillion on-balance-sheet debt is only the beginning. 
He highlights the $100 trillion in unfunded promises, such as Medicare, Social Security, and federal pensions, which takes the total liability burden far higher, and closer to the nation&#8217;s total household net worth at $141 trillion. This only leaves a $11 trillion buffer against household wealth, which he believes is closing quickly.

Both categories of liabilities are growing by around $2 trillion per year, Rule says. At that pace, the remaining margin will disappear within five years, raising questions about long-term solvency.
Rule believes that the country, at its current fiscal state, can no longer service its obligations such as social security, Medicare, and pensions, while adding that "the only viable path is to allow the dollar to decline." &#8220;I believe because of this $100 trillion in unfunded entitlement liabilities that the U.S. dollar will lose 75% of its purchasing power over 10 years,&#8221; he says, pointing to the 1970s as precedent, when U.S. inflation wiped out 75% of the dollar's purchasing power in a single decade. The period also saw gold prices rise nearly 30-fold.
Speaking on gold, Rule made a very bullish case for the yellow metal, saying that he doesn&#8217;t own gold because he thinks it can get to $3,500 an ounce, he says, &#8220;I own gold because I'm afraid it's going to $12,000,&#8221; because &#8220;arithmetically, it makes absolute sense.&#8221;
Rule says that &#8220;the system isn't solvent. It's just liquid, for now,&#8221; warning investors relying on traditional portfolios and government bonds will find themselves eroded by this silent inflation. 
&#8220;As purchasing power quietly deteriorates, people will either adapt or pay the price,&#8221; he concludes. &#8220;You can't paper over arithmetic forever.&#8221;
Why It Matters: Other leading market experts have echoed similar concerns regarding U.S. assets, while reaffirming their conviction in gold.
Investor Chamath Palihapitiya recently <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/05/45686648/chamath-palihapitiya-says-this-old-fashioned-asset-is-among-safe-trades-if-the-possibility-of-quantum-computing-cracking-bitcoin-is-even-remotely-true">called gold</a> the &#8220;only safe trade&#8221; on news of quantum computers capable of cracking Bitcoin&#8217;s encryption.
Leading hedge funds and financial institutions such as Bridgewater Associates, BlackRock Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BLK#NYSE">BLK</a>), and the Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GS#NYSE">GS</a>) have all made a beeline to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/specialty-etfs/25/05/45457712/move-over-miners-hedge-funds-are-the-new-gold-diggers-ray-dalio-blackrock-goldman-sachs-others-stake-claims-in-gld">increase their exposure</a> to gold, citing similar concerns of hyper-borrowing by the U.S.
Price Action: The spot price of Gold stands at $3,362.37, up 2.21% on Monday. The SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>), which tracks the price of gold, is up 26.99% year-to-date.

Just weeks after announcing its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/05/45398101/microsoft-to-cut-6000-jobs-in-global-restructuring-joins-meta-and-amazon-in-trimming-workforce-amid-ai-driven-shift">largest round of layoffs</a> in years, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) has decided to eliminate hundreds of additional jobs.
What Happened: On Monday, more than 300 Microsoft employees were told that their roles had been cut, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-06-02/microsoft-layoffs-continue-with-hundreds-more-cut">reported</a> Bloomberg, citing a Washington state notice.&nbsp;
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed this development to the publication, saying, "We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace."
These layoffs follow the roughly 6,000 cuts Microsoft announced last month.

As per the report, while the specific roles affected have not been determined, previous layoffs primarily impacted software engineers.

The cuts come as Microsoft and other tech giants like Meta Platforms, Inc. Microsoft Fires Hundreds More Workers Amid AI-Fueled Growth, Calls It Positioning The Company For 'Success'

Peter Schiff&nbsp;said Monday that his teachings on economics inadvertently led many to invest in Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), despite his advice against it.
What Happened: Schiff shared&nbsp;his experience at the Bitcoin&nbsp;2025 conference on his YouTube podcast. He stated that many attendees credited him as the reason they bought the leading cryptocurrency. 
&#8220;Everybody was telling me, almost to a person, that I was the reason that they bought Bitcoin and they credit me, even though that was not my intention,&#8221; the staunch Bitcoin critic said.

&#8220;But the reason people were telling me they bought Bitcoin was because I taught them about economics. They learned economics from me, they learned about sound money they began to question the Fed,&#8221; Schiff added.
According to Schiff, David Bailey, who runs the conference, also credited the Bitcoin skeptic for his decision to buy Bitcoin.
&#8220;It wasn&#8217;t my intention. It&#8217;s kind of like a government program. It was an unintended consequence,&#8221; Schiff said.

Mark Cuban Says Doing This One Thing Paid Him 'Dividends' For The Rest Of His Life, Shark Suggests Doing It When Money Is Scarce

Sen.&nbsp;Elizabeth Warren&nbsp;(D-Mass.) is once again calling out corruption in the Trump Administration, following a questionable decision made by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
What Happened: On Monday, Warren shared a video on X questioning the SEC&#8217;s recent approval of Brazilian meat processing company&nbsp;JBS SA&#8217;s&nbsp;(OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JBSAY#OTC">JBSAY</a>) listing on the New York Stock Exchange, despite its history of corruption, price fixing, and safety violations.
&#8220;JBS and its subsidiaries have been fined hundreds of millions of dollars for bribery, for price fixing, for safety violations, you name it,&#8221; Warren said.

&#8220;And can you guess which company made the single largest donation to Trump's inauguration? Pilgrim's Pride, which is owned by JBS,&#8221; while noting that the figure was higher than the contributions made by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), and Alphabet Inc. JBS shareholders approved the company&#8217;s proposal for a dual listing during its Extraordinary General Meeting held two weeks ago. Its shares are expected to begin trading in Brazil&#8217;s São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3), as well as the New York Stock Exchange, on June 9 and 12, respectively, according <a href="https://jbsfoodsgroup.com/articles/jbs-shareholders-approve-dual-listing">to</a> a press release.

Elizabeth Warren Says Trump 'Approved' The Largest Meat Company In World To Be Listed On NYSE Ignoring Corruption And Bribery History, Demands Answers

Shareholders of Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) rejected a proposal to consider adding Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) to the company&#8217;s balance sheet.
What Happened: A proposal for a &#8220;Bitcoin Treasury Assessment&#8221; garnered only&nbsp;3.92 million votes in favor, reflecting about 0.1% of the total. A whopping 4.98 billion votes, or 95% of the total, were cast against the proposal during the company&#8217;s annual shareholders meeting, according to a May 28 regulatory filing.

And Orman's advice?
"You are to do nothing other than <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/04/44715539/suze-orman-says-when-sentiment-is-this-fearful-its-not-the-time-to-sell-but-if-youll-need-the-money-in-5-years-it-shouldnt-be-in-the-market">keep this money safe and sound</a>," she said. "Except obviously pay off debts and things like that, but nothing besides that. For at least six months, one year or two years after suffering the loss of a loved one."
Orman's reasoning is deeply rooted in psychology—and experience.
"You may feel like you are making the right decisions and that you know what you're doing when it comes to money that you've never handled before, but I'm here to tell you," she said. "You are not in your body. You will get taken advantage of possibly, but you will not be doing that which you should be doing with this money."
The woman, a mother of four—ages 21, 18, 16, and 12—was three months into grieving her husband when she initially reached out to Orman. At that time, Orman carefully guided her to place the full $7 million into a treasury money market account through a reputable brokerage firm, where she'd earn around 4%–5% interest with minimal risk. The instructions were crystal clear:
"You are to do nothing. Do not touch this money. You are just going to let it sit there," she said.&nbsp;

But that didn't last.
Months later, a financial advisor from that very brokerage firm contacted her and convinced her to split up $2.4 million into two annuities—$1.5 million in one, $900,000 in another—and planned to invest the rest in stocks and bonds, leaving only $1.5 million in the money market account.
Orman was livid.
"Nothing upsets me more than that," she said, referring to advisors who act in their own financial interest before a grieving client is emotionally ready. "We all deserve to know what to do with money, to be taken care of, to not have some financial adviser do things with people's money when they're not ready to do it just 'cause this person may make more money or his firm may make more money."
