As the curtain rises on the iPhone 16 Series, Apple enthusiasts are buzzing with anticipation. However, JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee suggests that while the hype is palpable, the initial momentum for high-end models appears muted compared <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/AAPL/news">to past launches</a>. 
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">iPhone 16: &#8216;Launch Lacking Early Momentum&#8217;</h2>
Chatterjee highlights that the rollout has faced a slight hiccup, primarily due to the unavailability of AI capabilities, which seems to be causing a pause among potential buyers.
In Chatterjee&#8217;s latest insights, he points out, "Early signs are indicating a robust product cycle; albeit, with the launch lacking early momentum for the high-end models." This may prompt consumers to hold off on their purchases until they can fully grasp the AI value proposition. 
As a result, JPMorgan has adjusted its near-term iPhone unit forecast, now estimating about 126 million iPhones sold in the second half of 2024, down from 130 million previously.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Medium-Term Prospects Are Bullish, Says Apple Analyst</h2>
Despite these short-term adjustments, Chatterjee maintains a bullish outlook on the medium-term prospects for Apple. He asserts, "We continue to forecast aggregate volumes for the 16 Series over the next four quarters to track ahead of both the 15 and 14 Series," indicating a confidence that consumer appetite for AI-integrated features will ramp up once they become widely available.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Long-Term Upside Is Evident</h2>
The analyst's enthusiasm for the long-term potential is underpinned by expectations of a robust AI upgrade cycle. "We see upside in several aspects of the business&#8230; transformation of the company to Services, growth in the installed base, technology leadership, and optionality around capital deployment," he said
With this optimism, JPMorgan reiterates its price target for Apple at $265 by December 2025.
Investors might feel a pinch in the near term, as the excitement around AI upgrades may not translate into immediate sales.
But, as Chatterjee aptly puts it, "The slower start to the AI cycle than originally anticipated" is just a temporary roadblock to growth. The real treasure, he believes, lies just beyond the horizon as Apple continues to evolve and innovate.
While the iPhone 16 Series may not be breaking records just yet, the groundwork for a significant AI upgrade cycle is being laid, promising a future where Apple once again dazzles its fans and investors alike.

Why It&#8217;s Important:&nbsp;Nvidia was the top searched stock on Benzinga Pro for the month of September once again. The stock has ranked first or second for every month tracked since February, sometimes alternating with SPY or Tesla.
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust ranked second for a second straight month, which comes as the S&amp;P 500 tracking index hit new all-time highs in the month of September.
Tesla, which topped the month of July, has ranked third for two straight weeks. The stock has ranked among the top four stocks searched in each month tracked in 2024.
The bigger story in September were the newcomers and the stocks that dropped off.
Newcomers to the top 10 included Wheeler Real Estate, Galmed, Intel and Intuitive. Of the four stocks, only Intuitive had ranked in the top 20 over the last three months. The newcomers all had catalysts in the last month that made their stocks highly volatile.
On the 11th through 20th portion of the list, the stocks were all different from the previous month with Intuitive moving to the top 10 and Palantir going from 7th to 12th and the other stocks all new to the top 20.
Several of the companies ranked in the bottom part of the top 20 are penny stocks trading at less than $5 per share that saw wide moves that saw increased interest from Benzinga traders.
One of the bigger names to make the top 20, by name recognition, is Trump Media &amp; Technology Group, the company that counts former President Donald Trump as a co-founder. The stock has been highly volatile during the 2024 election cycle.
Dropping out of the top 10 were Lumen Technologies (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LUMN#NYSE">LUMN</a>), Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), Geovax Labs (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOVX#NASDAQ">GOVX</a>) and the aforementioned Palantir.
Other big names that exited the top 20 include Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) that was 13th in August and fell to 24th to narrowly miss the list.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>), which has frequently appeared in the top 20 and was ranked 15th in August dropped out of the top 20.
Overall the month of September saw six of the same top 10 tickers from August and eight of the top 20 tickers from August.

OpenAI has secured more than $6.5 billion in new funding at a valuation of $157 billion as it looks to increase its lead in the <a href="http://benzinga.com/topic/ai">artificial intelligence space</a>.
What Happened: OpenAI on Wednesday announced that it raised $6.6 billion at a post-money valuation of $157 billion to accelerate progress on&nbsp;AI research, increase compute capacity and continue building tools to solve complex problems. OpenAI was valued around <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/02/37191268/openai-employees-given-green-light-to-sell-shares-at-whopping-86b-valuation-report">$86 billion earlier this year</a> when employees opted to offload existing shares. 
&#8220;Across industries, businesses are improving productivity and operations, and developers are leveraging our platform to create a new generation of applications. And we're only getting started,&#8221; the AI company said in a statement.
OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT is the fastest-growing consumer application in history, as it was estimated to have reached 100 million monthly active users within two months of launch. The company was seeing an average of about 13 million unique visitors per day at that time, per Reuters.
OpenAI said Wednesday that more than 250 million people across the globe are currently using ChatGPT daily to enhance their work, creativity and learning.

Why It Matters: According to a Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-10-02/openai-has-closed-new-funding-round-raising-over-6-5-billion?srnd=homepage-americas&amp;sref=TBDibEcD">report</a> citing people familiar with the matter, OpenAI&#8217;s new funding deal is one of the largest private investments ever alongside SpaceX and TikTok parent ByteDance.
The funding was reportedly <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/financing/24/08/40614817/openai-on-cusp-of-raising-billions-in-new-venture-capital-round-valuation-spikes-to-100b-report">led by</a>&nbsp;Thrive Capital. Previous reports suggested the venture capital firm would invest at least $1 billion. OpenAI was also reportedly in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/08/40636153/apple-in-talks-to-invest-in-openai-as-chatgpt-makers-valuation-climbs-to-100b-report">funding talks</a> with Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>), Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>).

OpenAI Valuation Soars To $157B In Latest Funding Round

JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee maintained an Overweight rating on Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) with a price target of $265.
Chatterjee recently surveyed to gauge consumer appetite relative to their interest in purchasing a new iPhone and Apple Watch, including the latest generation products launched in September.
Consumer feedback confirmed his outlook for the iPhone 16 series, which includes a more robust cycle led by higher interest from both upgraders and switchers.

However, the analyst said upgraders show a lower preference for high-end models than the prior year.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Chatterjee noted that, in line with global trends, consumers polled in critical geographies, the U.S. and China, expressed greater interest in purchasing a new iPhone in 2024 than in 2023.
He noted the top reasons for buying a new iPhone continue to be a faster device and 5G connectivity, similar to the results for the iPhone 15 Series a year ago. Interestingly, Apple Intelligence features did not make it to the top five reasons to buy the new iPhone but were the sixth top reason, and the analyst noted the staggered launch and limited availability of features for consumers to try are driving this trend.
Chatterjee noted the Pro Max model remained the most popular iPhone among consumers, underscoring the preference for the latest "high-end" models in the iPhone line-up. That said, the aggregate popularity of the high-end models within the 16 Series is modestly lower compared to the 15 series a year ago. Preference for high-end phones within the 16 series is modestly lower relative to the prior cycle across both the U.S. and China, particularly in China, he flagged.
He said Samsung continues to be the dominant smartphone OEM outside of Apple, while Huawei continues to show dominance in China. The analyst noted a large majority of Android users surveyed in China showed an appetite to switch to Apple.

It is important for investors to look ahead and not in the rearview mirror.
Consider continuing to hold good, very long term, existing positions. Based on individual risk preference, consider a protection band consisting of cash or Treasury bills or short-term tactical trades as well as short to medium term hedges and short term hedges. This is a good way to protect yourself and participate in the upside at the same time.
You can determine your protection bands by adding cash to hedges. The high band of the protection is appropriate for those who are older or conservative. The low band of the protection is appropriate for those who are younger or aggressive. If you do not hedge, the total cash level should be more than stated above but significantly less than cash plus hedges.
A protection band of 0% would be very bullish and would indicate full investment with 0% in cash. A protection band of 100% would be very bearish and would indicate a need for aggressive protection with cash and hedges or aggressive short selling.
It is worth reminding that you cannot take advantage of new upcoming opportunities if you are not holding enough cash.  When adjusting hedge levels, consider adjusting partial stop quantities for stock positions (non ETF); consider using wider stops on remaining quantities and also allowing more room for high beta stocks. High beta stocks are the ones that move more than the market.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Traditional 60/40 Portfolio</h3>
Probability based risk reward adjusted for inflation does not favor long duration strategic bond allocation at this time.
Those who want to stick to traditional 60% allocation to stocks and 40% to bonds may consider focusing on only high quality bonds and bonds of five year duration or less.&nbsp; Those willing to bring sophistication to their investing may consider using bond ETFs as tactical positions and not strategic positions at this time.

Cramer Says 'Hot Money' Flowing From Nvidia, Apple Into China, Focus On Alibaba 'If You Must'

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/nlrb">National Labor Relations Board</a> has reportedly filed a complaint against Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) on Monday, alleging that the tech giant compelled its employees to sign illegal confidentiality, non-compete, and non-disclosure agreements.
What Happened: The complaint also claims that Apple excessively enforced social media and misconduct policies. The NLRB&#8217;s statement, seen by Reuters, accuses Apple of &#8220;interfering with, restraining, and coercing employees in the exercise of&#8221; their rights under federal labor law.
The case will reportedly be heard by an administrative judge in January.
The NLRB is seeking Apple to revoke its unlawful rules and inform its employees of their legal rights.

These allegations trace back to a September 2021 case involving Ashley Gjovik, a former senior engineering program manager, who was allegedly fired for raising issues like harassment and sexism.
In May, the NLRB found that Apple conducted unauthorized interrogations of employees at its World Trade Center retail store in New York City.

This marked a significant milestone for the company, as it was the first time any of its U.S. workers had successfully unionized.
The Towson Apple store employees, members of the International Association of Machinists union since June 2022, had been negotiating their first contract and even authorized a strike in May without setting a deadline.

Apple Accused Of Violating Federal Law Over Alleged Illegal Employee Agreements: NLRB Hearing Set For January

The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed a decline in the overall market sentiment, while the index remained in the &#8220;Greed&#8221; zone on Tuesday.
U.S. stocks settled lower on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones index falling more than 150 points amid growing concerns in the Middle East.
Most of the major tech stocks closed lower on Tuesday. Shares of Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) all closed the day lower.
On the economic data front, construction spending in the U.S. declined by 0.1% month-over-month to an annual rate of $2,132 billion in August. The ISM manufacturing PMI came in unchanged at 47.2 in September.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with information technology, real estate, and financials stocks recording the biggest losses on Tuesday. However, energy and utilities stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.
The Dow Jones closed lower by around 173 points to 42,156.97 on Tuesday. The S&amp;P 500 fell 0.93% to 5,708.75, while the Nasdaq Composite dipped 1.53% at 17,910.36 during Tuesday's session.

Following a warning from Alphabet Inc.&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) Google, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) has removed Juno, an unofficial YouTube app designed for Vision Pro, from its App Store.
What Happened: On Tuesday, Christian Selig, the developer of Juno, took to X, formerly Twitter, and announced the app&#8217;s removal on Tuesday. &#8220;Sad news, but Juno for YouTube has been removed from the App Store,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;I don't personally agree with this, as Juno is just a web view, and acts as little more than a browser extension that modifies CSS to make the website and video player look more &#8216;visionOS&#8217; like,&#8221; he said in a blog post on Tuesday.
Adding, &#8220;I have zero desire to spin this into a massive fight (at least more than I've fought in emails over the last few months) akin to what happened with Reddit years ago.&#8221;
However, existing Juno users can continue using the app unless they delete it or YouTube releases an update that disrupts its functionality.

Despite Nvidia Selloff, Biden's Law and Taiwan Semi's Advantage Offer Growth Potential

Barclays analyst Tim Long maintained an Underweight rating on Apple Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) with a price target of $186.
Long noted there was much news about increased iPhone builds in early July, a few weeks after the introduction of Apple Intelligence.
Based on the analyst&#8217;s recent supply chain channel checks, he noted Apple may just have cut roughly 3 million units of a key semiconductor component in iPhones for the December quarter. If confirmed, this would be the earliest build cut in recent history.

Long&#8217;s sell-through checks point to 15% year-on-year declines for global iPhone 16 sales in the first week of sales.
The analyst also tracked iPhone availability globally across geographies, suggesting softer demand for iPhone 16 relative to last year. Wait times across major geographies Long tracked were much shorter versus the previous year.
While the supply chain constraints on iPhone 15 pro models extended lead times last year, Long noted this still points to potentially weaker-than-expected demand, especially across the U.S. and China.
He said the data points indicated a softer demand than previously anticipated.
Overall, possible iPhone build cuts, weak sell-throughs and shorter lead times suggest a softer start to the iPhone 16 cycle with a negative mix shift due to weakening consumer spending, macro pressure and competition, Long said.
He noted Apple Intelligence in the Chinese language will not be rolled out until 2025, which may dampen early enthusiasm for the iPhone 16 in that critical market.
The analyst said Europe is&nbsp;also likely to see a staggered AI launch through 2025, which could limit excitement for the new device.
Long noted Apple&#8217;s order cut this time, if confirmed,&nbsp;implies the earliest cut in recent cycles as Apple typically makes its first order adjustment in early to mid-October based on sell-through data points.
Long noted September quarter iPhone units are on track for 51 million as the best case, assuming some channels fill in line or better versus last year due to more selling days. The earlier iPhone launch added two days of sell-through to the September quarter, but this is known, according to the analyst. The analyst noted the July and August sell-through was flattish year-on-year.
The December quarter looks increasingly at risk with the recent order cuts if sell-throughs continue to disappoint. This is due to the staggered roll-out of Apple Intelligence, limited adoption of AI outside of the U.S. and the need for hardware differentiation.
AAPL Price Action: AAPL stock is down 3.19% at $225.57 at publication Friday.

INTC will produce an AI fabric chip for AWS using its most advanced process node, Intel 18A.
By leveraging INTC's state-of-the-art technology, AWS would enhance its performance and efficiency, positioning AMZN at the forefront of innovation.
On September 9, AWS announced a strategic partnership with Oracle Corporation (<a href="https://stocknews.com/stock/ORCL/">ORCL</a>) to launch <a href="https://press.aboutamazon.com/aws/2024/9/oracle-and-amazon-web-services-announce-strategic-partnership">Oracle Database@AWS</a>, a new service that allows customers to access Oracle Autonomous Database on dedicated infrastructure and Oracle Exadata Database Service within AWS.
By integrating ORCL's services, AWS can enhance its cloud infrastructure, attracting more customers seeking robust database solutions. This strengthens AMZN's position in the cloud market, driving growth and broadening its service capabilities.
For the fiscal 2024 second quarter, which ended on June 30, AMZN's total net sales increased 10.1% year-over-year to $147.98 billion. Its operating income rose 91% from the year-ago value to $14.67 billion.
Additionally, the company's net income amounted to $13.48 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 99.8%. Meanwhile, AMZN's EPS for the quarter grew 93.8% from the previous year's quarter to $1.26.
Analysts expect AMZN's revenue and EPS for the fiscal third quarter (ending in September 2024) to increase 9.9% and 20.6% year-over-year to $157.18 billion and $1.13, respectively. In addition, the company topped the consensus EPS estimates in each of the trailing four quarters.
Shares of AMZN have surged 6.9% over the past six months and 33.2% over the past year to close the last trading session at $186.43.

With the use of Llama 3.1, META's own GenAI, the company is in the forefront of the incoming AI revolution. This launch cements META at the vanguard of the AI revolution, enhancing customer satisfaction and bolstering its reputation in the tech sphere.
For the second quarter of fiscal 2024, which ended on June 30, META's revenue increased 22.1% year-over-year to $39.07 billion. Its income from operations rose 58.1% from the year-ago value to $14.85 billion. Moreover, the company's net income and EPS grew 72.9% and 73.2% year-over-year to $13.47 billion and $5.16, respectively.
The consensus revenue estimate of $40.13 billion for the fiscal third quarter (ending September 2024) represents a 17.5% year-over-year increase. The consensus EPS estimate of $5.25 for the ongoing quarter indicates a 19.6% year-over-year improvement. Furthermore, META surpassed the consensus revenue and EPS estimates in all four trailing quarters, which is impressive.
Shares of META have surged 7.7% over the past three months and 77.8% over the past year to close the last trading session at $537.95.
