Oil prices extended their decline on Friday after Israel's Security Cabinet approved a ceasefire deal with Hamas, signaling a potential end in the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/gaza">15-month-long Gaza conflict.</a>
West Texas Intermediate crude futures – as tracked by the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) – edged down 0.6% to $78.38 a barrel as of 8:40 a.m. ET, following a sharp 2.7% drop on Thursday. 
Brent crude also eased 0.5% to $81 per barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. energy stocks, as tracked by the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>), edged 0.1% higher in the premarket, eyeing their eight straight day of gains. 
In a note Friday, <a href="https://www.energyintel.com/00000194-713c-d625-ab9e-f3bdb2db0000">Energy Intelligence</a> said oil prices fell amid expectations that Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militia may halt attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, thus provoking less disruptions to global trade and oil flows. 
Israeli President Isaac Herzog hailed the Security Cabinet's approval of the ceasefire deal as a "vital step," emphasizing the moral and national duty of bringing home Israeli hostages.

In a statement on X , Herzog acknowledged the emotional weight of the agreement, particularly for families whose loved ones may not return in the initial stages.
&#8220;I welcome the Israeli Security Cabinet&#8217;s decision to approve the hostage deal which will bring our hostages home, as presented by the Prime Minister and the negotiating team. I expect the government to follow suit in swiftly affirming this decision.&#8221;
Herzog's statement, released just before Shabbat, also carried a message of hope and national healing, urging Israelis to see this moment as an opportunity to rebuild and shape their shared future. 
&#8220;I harbor no illusions — the deal will bring with it great challenges and painful, agonizing moments that we will need to overcome and face together. With all my heart, I embrace the families of the hostages, especially those who know that their loved ones will not return in the first stage. We must bring everyone back. Everyone! We will not rest or relent until this happens.&#8221;
While the ceasefire agreement must still pass a full Cabinet vote, Herzog's strong endorsement signals growing political momentum behind the deal.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke separately with U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, thanking them for their roles in advancing the deal.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Red Sea Shipping Risks Keep Oil Markets Unsettled</h3>
Despite the ceasefire, S&amp;P Global Ratings <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/commodity-insights/en/news-research/latest-news/shipping/011625-shipping-risks-via-red-sea-remain-elevated-despite-israel-hamas-ceasefire">indicated</a> that most shipping firms are still maintaining alternative routes away from the Red Sea due to ongoing security concerns. 
A senior oil trading executive told the rating agency that &#8220;the risk of Houthi rebel attacks on ships remains significant,&#8221; as the group is backed by Iran.
This continued disruption could sustain pressure on oil prices, given the strategic importance of the Red Sea for global energy trade. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, is a key chokepoint for oil shipments from the Middle East to Europe and North America.
Analysts at Capital Economics say the ceasefire's impact on global inflation and monetary policy may be overstated.
While easing geopolitical tensions could lower energy and shipping costs, the broader disinflationary effects might not be strong enough to significantly influence central banks&#8217; rate decisions.
According to Upstream, if the ceasefire holds, market focus could shift toward the U.S. and Russia. Yet, doubts persist over how durable the peace agreement will be and what it means for long-term stability in the region.

The U.S. energy sector kicked off 2025 with a strong rally, outperforming all other sectors as crude prices soared and investors bet on a deregulatory shift under the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/11/42383725/trump-administrations-deregulation-efforts-to-lift-energy-oil-and-gas-sectors-ai-frenzy-to-aid-faang-stocks-and-nvidia-says-fintech-insider">incoming Donald Trump administration</a>.
What Happened: The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>) has surged more than 8% in the first half of January. That&#8217;s well ahead of any other sector. Industrials, the next-best performer, are up just 3.7% over the same period.
Rising oil prices fuel the rally; crude topped $80 per barrel this week. Meanwhile, fresh U.S. sanctions on Russia and a larger-than-expected draw in domestic stockpiles stoke supply concerns.
The Biden administration's latest sanctions, imposed on Jan. 10, target Russian oil producers Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, as well as more than 160 tankers, tightening restrictions on Moscow's energy revenues. The move adds to existing supply constraints, and some analysts see more pressure ahead.
If Russian flows tighten further and sanctions on Iran and Venezuela intensify, oil prices could climb <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/01/42965857/oil-could-hit-90-goldman-sachs-says-trump-may-not-ease-sanctions-on-russia">toward $90 per barrel.</a> That&#8217;s according to Goldman Sachs commodity strategist Daan Struyven.
Adding to the uncertainty, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-16/trump-team-readies-oil-sanctions-plan-for-russia-deal-iran-squeeze?sref=TBDibEcD">Bloomberg</a> reported Thursday that Trump's economic team is weighing two options: easing or increasing sanctions as leverage with Russia, aiming to push Moscow toward negotiations over the war in Ukraine.
Trump has hinted at a potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, fueling speculation over how U.S. policy—and global energy markets—could change in the months ahead.

Why It Matters: Within the oil majors, Chevron Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) has been the standout performer, gaining nearly 10% since the start of the year, while Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) has added 3%.
In a note shared Thursday, Goldman Sachs analyst Neil Mehta expects a "constructive setup" for Chevron heading into 2025. He cites an expected production and free cash flow boost from its Tengiz operations, strong shareholder returns—projected at around 10% annually through dividends and buybacks—and improving operational execution.
Investors are also watching for updates on Chevron's acquisition of Hess Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HES#NYSE">HES</a>), particularly the ongoing arbitration process. 
Goldman Sachs doesn't take a stance on the outcome. Yet, Chevron management projects a resolution by the third quarter of 2025. Speaking at the Energy, CleanTech &amp; Utilities Conference last week, company executives expressed confidence in Hess' position and hinted at progress on regulatory approvals and integration planning.
Chevron shares have been on a tear. They hit a one-month high this week and could extend their winning streak to seven straight sessions on Thursday.
The company is set to report fourth-quarter earnings on Jan. 31, with Wall Street expecting earnings per share of $2.22 on revenue of $47.28 billion, according to <a href="https://bzresearch.myclickfunnels.com/benzinga-pro-content-webinar-registration/?utm_source=BZprocontent011625&amp;t=be2bearmibe3na1">Benzinga Pro</a> data. A year ago, Chevron posted EPS of $3.45 on revenue of $50.67 billion.

Early session advances across major indices faded into modest losses by midday trading in New York, as market participants exercised caution ahead of Wednesday's pivotal Consumer Price Index report and key fourth-quarter earnings from top Wall Street banks.
The Producer Price Index rose 3.3% year-over-year in December, accelerating from November's 3% increase but missing the 3.4% forecast. Core PPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, increased 3.5% annually, matching November's pace but undershooting expectations of 3.8%. On a month-to-month basis, core inflation stagnated, showing zero growth compared to November's 0.2% increase, and coming in below forecasts for a 0.3% gain.
Bond yields continued to climb, underscoring persistent inflationary pressure. The 30-year Treasury yield advanced to 5%, its highest level since October 2023 and marking territory not seen since August 2007.
After a three-day rally, crude oil prices cooled. West Texas Intermediate fell 1% to $78 per barrel, as investors locked in recent gains.
Utilities and financials emerged as the session's strongest performers, while healthcare stocks were the largest drag on the market. Eli Lilly &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) plummeted 7.5% after the company issued a weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter sales forecast for its weight-loss drug Zepbound.
Peer Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>) slid 5% in sympathy.
CEO Dave Ricks revealed that Eli Lilly anticipates regulatory approval for its oral weight-loss treatment, orforglipron, by 2026, with pivotal data expected in mid-2025. 
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rose 1.5% on Tuesday, bouncing back after three days of largely flat trading.

Additionally, the kickoff of earnings season, led by major banks on Wednesday, added to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">the market&#8217;s subdued tone.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 edged lower, continuing Friday&#8217;s downturn sparked by unexpectedly strong jobs data. The lack of &#8220;buy-the-dip&#8221; enthusiasm in the tech-heavy indices signaled lingering uncertainty among investors.
In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average eked out a gain, buoyed by a rally in energy stocks. Rising oil prices provided a key lift, as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil surged over 3% to approach $78 per barrel — a level last seen in mid-August 2024. The spike followed U.S. sanctions on Russian crude exports announced on Friday, which shifted market expectations around supply and demand.
Treasury yields extended their ascent, with the 10-year yield climbing to 4.79% and the 30-year yield rising to 4.97%, reflecting heightened expectations for tighter monetary policy. Bank of America Securities launched a bombshell indicating rising risks towards a rate hike as the next Fed move.
Commodity markets saw mixed action. Gold endured its sharpest daily loss in nearly a month, falling more than 1% as rising yields weighed on the precious metal. Meanwhile, copper staged a modest rebound, gaining 0.8% after a 0.5% decline last Friday.
Cryptocurrencies faced renewed volatility, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) plunging 3% to dip below $92,000, briefly touching a two-month low. The ripple effects extended to crypto-linked equities: MicroStrategy Inc. The United States announced the toughest sanctions yet on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/oil">Russia's oil industry</a> on Friday.
What To Know: The news pushed global oil prices up by 3%, nearing $80 per barrel. The sanctions are part of Washington&#8217;s ongoing measures to penalize Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, aiming to disrupt oil exports to major buyers like India and China.
The measures include the blacklisting of 183 vessels involved in Russian energy exports, which could significantly disrupt the flow of oil. Previously, a Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/7c0981bb-9b7a-4737-8f3f-65325a1d768a">analysis </a>showed that the 54 tankers sanctioned by the U.S. were forced to carry dramatically less oil due to heightened risks, hinting at potentially larger ramifications this time.

Key targets include Russian oil giants Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, along with insurers Ingosstrakh and Alfastrakhovanie, which cover a significant portion of Russian oil shipments, Reuters reports. This move could intensify challenges for Russia, which has shifted oil exports to Asia since Western sanctions in 2022 curtailed its European markets.
The U.S. Treasury noted that the UK would coordinate and apply sanctions on Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz alongside Washington, FT reports.
The sanctions also target active Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities and foreign organizations that support Russia's oil exports, further expanding the scope of penalties.
The sanctions, issued just days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, create a challenge for his administration. Trump, who campaigned on quickly ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, has expressed skepticism about imposing additional sanctions, FT reports.
In September, he stated, &#8220;I want to use sanctions as little as possible.&#8221; Reversing these measures could put him at odds with Congress, where Republican members had been urging President Joe Biden to crack down on Russian energy revenues.
What Else: To adapt, Russia has relied on its fleet of tankers and domestic insurance providers. However, Indian refiners indicated they would avoid tankers or insurers under U.S. sanctions.
Per the Reuters report, India refining sources suggest Russia may further discount crude prices to below $60 to align with Western price caps and retain market access.

Oil Surges As US Unleashes Toughest Sanctions On Russia's Energy Sector

The December jobs report jolted financial markets during early Friday trading. Stronger-than-expected employment growth and a drop in the unemployment rate to 4.1% raised fears the Federal Reserve may hold off on cutting interest rates <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">for most of 2025.</a>
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">December Jobs Report Fuels Fed Hawkishness: Dollar Soars, Yields Jump </h3>
The U.S. economy added 256,000 new jobs last month, marking an acceleration from the downwardly revised 212,000 jobs added in November and sharply outpacing economist forecasts of 160,000, as tracked by TradingEconomics.
The December reading represented the strongest monthly job growth since March 2024, underscoring the continued resilience of the U.S. economy despite high interest rates and resurgent inflationary pressures.
The unemployment rate ticked down from 4.2%to 4.1% in November, defying expectations of no change. Wages rose broadly in line with expectations, with average hourly earnings increasing 0.3% month-over-month, slowing slightly from November&#8217;s 0.4%. On a year-over-year basis, wages climbed 3.9%, marginally below the 4% forecast.
Fed fund futures showed a steep decline in the probability of a March rate cut, with implied odds dropping to just 26%, down from 43% a day earlier, according to CME&#8216;s FedWatch tool.
Treasury yields rose sharply across the curve, reflecting a repricing of interest rate expectations. 
The two-year yield, closely tied to Federal Reserve policy expectations, jumped 11 basis points to 4.37%. The 10-year yield surged 10 basis points to 4.79%, its highest level since November 2023.
Notably, the most striking move came in the 30-year yield, which breached the 5% mark for the first time since October 2023. Before that, the last time 30-year yields surpassed this milestone was in August 2007. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) dropped 1.2% in premarket trading, highlighting the market's sensitivity to long-term rates.
The U.S. Dollar Index, tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), surged 0.5% to 109.70, a level last seen in late October 2022. 
The greenback climbed 0.4% against the Japanese yen and 0.6% versus the euro, pushing the euro-dollar pair to a fresh 27-month low of 1.0250. The Sterling wasn&#8217;t spared, falling 0.7% to a 15-month low against the dollar.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Stocks Slump Across The Board</h3>
Futures on major U.S. indices were down 1% across the board, as the prospect of higher-for-longer interest rates rattled investors. All S&amp;P 500 sectors, except energy, traded in the negative premarket Friday.

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>) rose 1.57% to $108.61 and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COP#NYSE">COP</a>) advanced 1.43% to $103.07, benefiting from a 3% spike in oil prices after Reuters reported thet U.S. is mulling stronger sanctions on Russia&#8217;s oil sector.
In contrast, rate-sensitive mega-cap tech stocks dragged the market lower. 
Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) fell 2.51% to $136.59, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) dropped 2.92% to $118.28 and American International Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AIG#NYSE">AIG</a>) plunged 3.93% to $68.63, leading losses among financials.

The company&#8217;s subsidiary, Chevron U.S.A. Inc., owns 40% working interest in Whale, with Shell Offshore Inc. owning 60% interest as operator.
Whale, located 200 miles southwest of Houston in Alaminos Canyon Block 773, is in over 8,600 feet of water.
The company estimates Whale&#8217;s peak production at 100,000 gross boe/d, with up to 15 wells in its first phase.
The project features energy-efficient gas turbines and compression systems, utilizing a simplified design for lower emissions, reduced costs, and higher returns.
Chevron&#8217;s latest milestone follows a year of key achievements, including first production from its high-pressure Anchor project and the launch of water injection operations to enhance output at its Jack/St. Malo and Tahiti facilities in the Gulf.
Bruce Niemeyer, president of Chevron Americas Exploration &amp; Production, stated Whale&#8217;s production brings Chevron nearer to its target of 300,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico by 2026.

Goldman Sachs analyst Neil Mehta expressed views on Exxon Mobil Corporation&#8216;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOM#NYSE">XOM</a>)<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42875502/oil-price-drop-to-cut-exxon-mobils-q4-upstream-earnings-by-up-to-09-billion" rel="noreferrer noopener"> trading update reported yesterday.</a>
The oil giant anticipates changes in oil prices to reduce&nbsp;fourth-quarter&nbsp;upstream earnings&nbsp;Q/Q&nbsp;by&nbsp;$(0.9) billion to&nbsp;$(0.5)&nbsp;billion.
Conversely, changes in gas prices are expected to impact its upstream results by between&nbsp;$0.0&nbsp;billion and&nbsp;$0.4 billion.
On the other hand, Exxon Mobil projects that variations in industry margins will impact energy products earnings by&nbsp;$(0.7)&nbsp;billion – $(0.3)&nbsp;billion, specialty products earnings by $(0.1) billion – $0.1 billion, and chemical products earnings by&nbsp;$(0.5) billion – $(0.3) billion.
The analyst writes that implied EPS at the midpoint was ~$1.50, below their estimate of $1.80 and FactSet consensus of $1.76.
The difference is mainly due to weaker-than-expected results in the Upstream, Downstream, and Chemicals segments, adds the analyst.
Mehta writes that implied Upstream earnings were ~$5.7 billion at the mid-point, below their estimate of ~$6.2 billion.
The analyst adds that implied Downstream earnings, including Energy and Specialty Products, were ~$1.0 billion at the mid-point, below their estimate of ~$1.4 billion.
Moreover, implied Chemicals earnings were ~$493 million at the mid-point, falling short of their estimate of ~$853 million.
Goldman Sachs rated the company <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/XOM/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">Neutral with a price target of $125</a>.

Wall Street began Wednesday with muted trading, as investors braced for the release of the December Federal Open Market Committee meeting minutes. During that meeting, policymakers delivered their third consecutive interest rate cut but struck a hawkish tone on inflation and the monetary<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42563299/feds-powell-shocks-markets-its-a-new-phase-were-significantly-closer-to-neutral"> policy outlook for 2025.</a>
By midday in New York, major indices were little moved, with sectors showing tight variations. Traders appear to be holding their breath as they await insight into the Fed's future policy direction.
President-elect Donald Trump emerged in the spotlight as CNN reported his team is considering an &#8220;economic emergency plan&#8221; that would bypass Congress to expedite the use of broad-based tariffs.
The dollar, meanwhile, surged further, continuing its relentless rally. The greenback is now targeting its sixth consecutive week of gains, having risen in 14 out of the last 15 weeks. U.S. Treasury yields ticked higher early in the session before easing slightly as traders adjusted positions ahead of the FOMC minutes.
On the economic front, the latest ADP private employment data showed weaker-than-expected job creation in December, potentially signaling a cooling labor market heading into the new year.

Over the past two sessions, the leading cryptocurrency has shed over 7% of its value, erasing most of its year-to-date gains.

Oil Price Drop To Cut Exxon Mobil's Q4 Upstream Earnings By Up To $0.9 Billion: Details

President-elect Donald Trump spotlighted artificial intelligence and drilling expansion as pillars of his economic vision Tuesday, pledging to foster AI-driven innovation while slashing energy<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/regulations"> costs through expanded deregulation.</a>
During a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump outlined plans to accelerate America's leadership in artificial intelligence by supporting private investments in data centers and energy infrastructure.
"A lot of people don&#8217;t realize that AI is going to be a big thing but you'll need double the electricity at least that we have right now," Trump said, hinting at the plan to markedly raise U.S. energy production to meet fast-growing AI demands.
He indicated that expanding access to oil and gas is critical to keeping energy costs low and powering future industry.
Calling Biden's offshore drilling ban "a crime" against America's economic potential, Trump pledged to overturn the policy immediately upon taking office. "We're going to be drilling, and energy costs are going to come way down," he said.
According to Trump, reversing Biden&#8217;s offshore drilling ban would unlock 625 million acres of offshore reserves valued at $50 to $60 trillion.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Trump Pledges Faster Permits</h1>
Trump contrasted the U.S. permitting delays with China's rapid expansion of energy infrastructure, which he said is fueling its artificial intelligence sector. 
He called out the U.S. permitting system as a major barrier to economic progress, particularly in the energy sector.
"China is already building massive electric facilities, and you know how they're being fired up? With coal," Trump said. 
The tycoon pledged to streamline environmental permitting for large-scale projects, promising expedited reviews for companies investing $1 billion or more in the U.S. economy. 
"We're going to move them quickly through the environmental process," Trump said, referencing delays that have sometimes lasted more than a decade. 
"I've seen plants in Louisiana where I got it approved in literally a week after they spent 14 and a half years trying to get it done."
Trump framed this regulatory overhaul as essential for keeping America competitive, particularly in energy and artificial intelligence. 
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h1>
U.S. oil and gas stocks outperformed on Tuesday, with the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>) up by 1%, yet trimming session gains in afternoon trading.
The broader energy sector&#8217;s price action showed little sign of bullish momentum after Trump&#8217;s remarks.
Among individual names, Devon Energy Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DVN#NYSE">DVN</a>) gained 2.8%, Texas Pacific Land Corp. Trump Vows To Power AI Boom With Expanded Oil Drilling: 'Need Double The Electricity At Least That We Have Right Now'

Tuesday began as a calm day on Wall Street, but markets swiftly turned negative after the Institute for Supply Management released data highlighting an unexpected surge in price pressures within the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/01/42850914/us-services-sector-growth-tops-forecasts-but-price-pressures-tariff-concerns-cloud-outlook">service sector for December.</a> 
The report reignited fears over persistent inflation and mounting concerns over the economic fallout from tariffs.
The ISM&#8217;s Services PMI rose to 54.1% in December, surpassing expectations and marking the third-highest reading of 2024. This figure signals continued expansion in the services industry. 
Yet the Prices Index, which reflects input costs for service providers, jumped sharply to 64.4%, up from 58.2% in November, significantly outpacing consensus estimates of 57.5%. This was the highest print since February 2023 and a clear sign that inflationary pressures are not easing as anticipated.
By midday, all major stock indices were trading lower. The Nasdaq 100 was hit particularly hard as rising Treasury yields soured risk sentiment, putting pressure on growth-oriented technology stocks. The yield on the 30-year Treasury bond surged by 6 basis points to 4.91%, its highest level since November 2023, reflecting growing unease in the bond market. 
The sell-off extended to bond ETFs, with the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) falling by 1% on the day.
Amid this broader market weakness, only a handful of sectors managed to resist the selling pressure. Energy, materials and financials emerged as the outperformers.
In the commodities market, oil prices rebounded after earlier losses this week. West Texas Intermediate light crude climbed 1% to settle at $73.70 per barrel, recovering from Monday&#8217;s decline, while natural gas prices plunged 5%.
Precious metals saw modest gains, with gold up 0.6% and copper rising 1.1%, reflecting a cautious shift toward safer assets.
The rally in cryptocurrencies came to a sudden halt. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) dropped 5% to $97,000, poised to snap a six-session winning streak.

Wall Street staged a vigorous rebound on Friday, potentially snapping a five-day losing streak, the longest since April, as investors stepped back into the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">market with renewed optimism.</a>
The major indices all traded in the green, with the Nasdaq 100 leading the charge. Notably, every S&amp;P 500 sector posted gains, underscoring broad-based strength across the market.
On the economic front, the latest ISM Manufacturing PMI exceeded expectations, signaling a healthier-than-anticipated manufacturing sector in December. This marked the second consecutive month of expansion. 
Treasury yields edged higher, with the 30-year yield ticking up to 4.80%. Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin hinted at a hawkish tone during his speech at the Maryland Bankers Association, highlighting the need to keep restrictive monetary policy to counter persistent inflation risks.
In commodities market, crude oil prices climbed over 1%, settling at $73.82 per barrel, marking their sixth consecutive session of gains. In contrast, natural gas prices tumbled nearly 8%, pressured by updated weather forecasts pointing to milder-than-expected winter conditions in the coming weeks and a smaller-than-anticipated storage draw for the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42790572/us-natural-gas-prices-drop-sharply-as-new-weather-forecasts-lower-weekly-inventory-pull-weigh-on-demand">week ending Dec. 27.</a>
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rose 1% to $98,000, extending its winning streak to four consecutive sessions.

<li>Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) announced it delivered 14,183 vehicles last quarter, surpassing both the 13,972 units delivered a year ago and the Street&#8217;s consensus estimate of 13,000.
