Goldman Sachs analyst James Schneider maintained a Buy rating on T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NASDAQ">TMUS</a>) on Thursday, with a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/T/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $285</a>, up from $280.
Schneider expects the stock to trade lower following results that reflected relatively in-line financial metrics and postpaid phone net additions despite a modest uptick in financial guidance.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The analyst noted that, based on his conversations, investors expected a greater upside in postpaid phone net additions and an uptick in guidance, following the company&#8217;s historical pattern, especially in light of the acquisitions closed in the quarter.

Despite the higher promotional activity and churn metrics reported by all wireless carriers in the quarter, Schneider continues to see the wireless market backdrop as very healthy, given the ongoing plan price increases implemented by all carriers in recent months.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The analyst expects the company to continue its core wireless growth algorithm, with broadband driving the next chapter of growth.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Between AT&amp;T Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>), Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VZ#NYSE">VZ</a>), Comcast, and T-Mobile, industry phone net additions are +853k in first-quarter of 2025 or 203k Y/Y which compares to +1,056k in first-quarter of 2024. This implies that industry growth remains relatively healthy but with a slowing growth rate.
On the residential broadband side, AT&amp;T (including DSL), Verizon (total consumer fixed + FWA), Comcast Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMCSA#NASDAQ">CMCSA</a>), and T-Mobile US, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TMUS#NASDAQ">TMUS</a>) (FWA) net additions were +596k in the first quarter of 2025 or -33k Y/Y, compared to 629k in the first quarter of 2024.
This implies that the industry is slowing somewhat.
Schneider does not expect the tower stocks to move significantly, as CapEx guidance was consistent with prior commentary.
T-Mobile <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44995935/t-mobile-shares-drop-despite-better-than-expected-q1-report-details" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported revenue of $20.89 billion</a>, just above Schneider&#8217;s estimate of $20.78 billion and above the Street (VA) at $20.64 billion, with an upside in equipment revenue.
Postpaid phone net additions came in at +495k, which is just above Schneider&#8217;s estimate of +486k but below the Street estimate of +499k. Meanwhile, high-speed internet net additions of +424k were above the analyst estimate of +399k and the Street estimate of +396k.
T-Mobile updated guidance for 2025. Postpaid net customer addition guidance remains 5.5-6.0 million (5.5-6.0 million prior), versus the analyst estimate of 6.03 million and the Street at 5.87 million.&nbsp;&nbsp;
TMUS Price Action: T-Mobile US stock is down 11% to $233.10 at last check Friday.

T-Mobile Beats Estimates, But Customer Growth Leaves Investors Wanting More, Says Analyst

Shares of mobile carriers are trading lower in possible sympathy with T-Mobile, which fell on its Q1 earnings report.

Charter Communications Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CHTR#NASDAQ">CHTR</a>) reported its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/n45004240/charter-announces-first-quarter-2025-results" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fiscal first-quarter 2025</a> results Friday, including quarterly revenue growth of 0.4% year-on-year to $13.74 billion, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $13.68 billion.
EPS of $8.42 missed the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst consensus estimate</a> of $8.67.

The topline performance reflects revenue growth of 33.5% for residential mobile service, 1.8% for residential Internet and 13.4% for other revenue.
Charter lost 60,000 internet customers, including approximately 9,000 customer disconnects related to the wildfires in California in January, compared to a decline of 72,000 during the first quarter of 2024.
Comcast Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMCSA#NASDAQ">CMCSA</a>) lost 199,000 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44978343/comcast-hit-hard-by-subscriber-exodus-nearly-630000-customers-gone-in-q1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broadband customers </a>amid competition with telecom companies. AT&amp;T Inc.&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>) Consumer Wireline segment had 261 AT&amp;T Fiber net additions during the quarter. Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VZ#NYSE">VZ</a>) had 339,000 broadband net additions during the quarter.
Charter&#8217;s residential video customers decreased by 181,000 compared to 405,000 in the previous year. Comcast also lost 427,500 video subscribers as streaming giants like Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NFLX#NASDAQ">NFLX</a>) gained traction.
Charter&#8217;s total mobile lines increased by 514,000 during the quarter, reaching 10.4 million as of March 31, 2025. AT&amp;T&#8217;s 324,000 postpaid phone net adds (versus 349,000 a year ago). Contrastingly, Verizon&#8217;s quarterly postpaid phone net losses were 289,000 versus 114,000 net losses Y/Y driven by price hikes, intense rival promotional offers, and lower government support.
Adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 180 bps to 42.0%.
The quarterly free cash flow of $1.56 billion increased from $358 million in the prior year, driven by higher net cash flows from operating activities and lower capital expenditures.
As of March 31, Charter served 30.02 million residential and SMB Internet customers.
Net cash flow from operating activities totaled $4.24 billion during the quarter. As of March 31, the company held $796 million in cash and equivalents.
2025 Outlook:&nbsp;Charter Communications&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43390140/charter-q4-earnings-beats-estimates-mobile-growth-surges-with-529k-new-lines-despite-broadband-subscriber-losses" rel="noreferrer noopener">reiterated a capex</a> of $12 billion (versus $11.27 billion <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">in fiscal 2024</a>).

Charter Loses Internet And TV Subscribers But Beats Rivals With Strong Mobile Line Gains

Comcast Corp&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMCSA#NASDAQ">CMCSA</a>)&nbsp;stock tanked Thursday after it reported its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/b44974965/comcast-reports-1st-quarter-2025-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">first-quarter results</a>.
The Philadelphia-based company reported a quarterly decline of 0.6% year-over-year to $29.89 billion, beating the analyst consensus estimate of $29.76 billion.

The company reported adjusted EPS of $1.09, beating <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst consensus estimates</a> of 98 cents. Its media segment posted revenue growth of 1.1% Y/Y to $6.44 billion.
Peacock&#8217;s paid subscribers increased by over 20% Y/Y to 41 million, while revenue grew by 16% year over year to $1.2 billion.
Studios&#8217; revenue increased by 3.0% Y/Y to $2.83 billion due to higher content licensing and digital sales of&nbsp;&nbsp;Wicked.
Theme Parks revenue decreased by 5.2% Y/Y to $1.88 billion due to lower revenue at its domestic theme parks, driven by lower guest attendance including the impact of the Hollywood wildfires.
Connectivity &amp; Platforms adjusted EBITDA grew 1.5% Y/Y to $8.3 billion, with a margin expansion of 90 bps to 41.4%.
Comcast said it generated $5.42 billion in free cash flow during the quarter.
Comcast lost 199,000 broadband customers in the period amid <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/04/44947739/att-adds-324-thousand-postpaid-subscribers-in-q1-outpaces-verizons-289-thousand-loss" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">rivalry with telecom</a> companies.
