What Happened: On Tuesday, the OxyContin maker submitted a revised bankruptcy plan, offering a settlement of at least $7.4 billion for the opioid crisis. This decision follows the U.S. Supreme Court&#8217;s rejection of Purdue&#8217;s previous attempt to resolve the lawsuits through a bankruptcy settlement last year.
The new plan provides fresh details on how the settlement will be distributed among states, local governments, and individuals affected by the opioid crisis. The company intends to begin collecting votes and opt-in decisions from its creditors in May, with the plan to be presented to a U.S. bankruptcy judge for final approval upon completion.
Purdue will contribute $900 million from its funds and implement several non-monetary measures, including transitioning into a public benefit company focused on developing medications for opioid use disorder treatment and overdose reversal. 
Under the revised plan, creditors can choose to participate in the settlement to receive payment. Individuals who choose not to participate in the settlement can pursue legal action against the Sacklers, the company&#8217;s owners, who have stated they will strongly contest the case in court.
The revised plan also allocates approximately $850 million to support individuals affected by the opioid crisis, including those who developed addiction after being prescribed OxyContin and infants born with withdrawal symptoms due to prenatal opioid exposure.

Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers has said that the central bank is facing &#8220;the most difficult challenge&#8221; amid higher prices and fewer jobs. This comes as the Federal Reserve is slated to announce its decision on interest rates by Wednesday afternoon.
What Happened: Larry Summers expects the apex bank&#8217;s monetary policy-setting body, the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (FOMC), to hold the rates constant on Wednesday in line with market expectations.
CME Group&#8217;s FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool </a>indicates a near-certainty of unchanged interest rates in March at 99%, with expectations shifting to significant rate cuts beginning in July with a 60%+ probability and increasing to nearly 90% in September. 
Holding tariffs responsible for this challenging situation, he said, &#8220;This is what tariffs do.&#8221;
&#8220;If you are the Federal Reserve, you can't figure out if you go to the breaks because of price increases or the accelerator because of lost jobs. So I suspect the Fed won't move interest rates. They will say they need more data and they are watching,&#8221; said Summers in an X thread.
He describes this scenario as a &#8220;stagflationary shock,&#8221; which has put the Fed in a &#8220;hard position&#8221;.

Tech behemoth Microsoft alerted users about a newly discovered malware that threatens 20 of the most widely used cryptocurrency wallets.
What Happened: In a Monday research <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/blog/2025/03/17/stilachirat-analysis-from-system-reconnaissance-to-cryptocurrency-theft/">report</a>, Microsoft identified a remote access trojan named StilachiRAT that could evade detection, maintain its presence&nbsp;in the target environment, and&nbsp;extract sensitive data.
The malware targets some of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-crypto-wallets">most popular wallets</a>, such as&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/how-to-use-metamask">MetaMask</a>, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/coinbase-vs-coinbase-wallet">Coinbase Wallet</a>, and Binance (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/bnb/usd">BNB</a>)-owned Trust Wallet. 
First identified in November 2024, the trojan is capable of pilfering users&#8217; wallet details and other&nbsp;credentials, including usernames and passwords,&nbsp;stored in their Google Chrome&nbsp;browser, Microsoft added.
Microsoft suggested&nbsp;some mitigation measures, including the recommendation to download any software only from the official website and install antivirus software.
MetaMask acknowledged Microsoft&#8217;s findings and urged users to take necessary precautions.
