Archegos Capital Management founder Bill Hwang was sentenced on Wednesday to 18 years in prison for fraud and market manipulation tied to the fund's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/05/38718096/bill-hwangs-trial-begins-over-archegos-fund-collapse-what-to-expect">dramatic collapse in 2021.&nbsp;</a>
The Details: Hwang was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein in New York to slightly less time than the 21 years prosecutors had sought in the case.

Hellerstein said Hwang's request for no jail time was "utterly ridiculous" considering the amount of money involved. 
"The amount of losses that were caused by your conduct are larger than any amount of losses I've deal with as a judge," Hellerstein said.
The judge also compared Hwang to FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, who received a 25-year sentence for fraud.
"What was worse? Mr. Bankman-Fried's fraud or Mr. Hwang's fraud?" Hellerstein asked.
The jury found that Hwang directed Archegos staff to relay that the firm had large positions in companies such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>). Archegos actually invested heavily in a small group of stocks that could be more easily manipulated.

In the third quarter of 2024 we saw strong client activity against a market backdrop that, while constructive, still exhibited periods of high volatility and dislocation.
Entering the fourth quarter, we see a continuation of these market conditions sustained by the prospects of a soft landing in the US economy. However, the macroeconomic outlook in the rest of the world remains clouded. In addition to seasonality, the ongoing geopolitical conflicts and the upcoming US elections are creating uncertainties that are likely to affect investor behavior.
In the fourth quarter, we anticipate a mid-single digit decline in net interest income in Global Wealth Management and a low single-digit decline in Personal &amp; Corporate Banking. Non-core and Legacy is expected to generate a quarterly pre-tax loss in line with our earlier guidance.
The Group's non-personnel costs are expected to show a seasonal sequential uptick. The Group's quarterly tax rate is expected to be around 35%. Integration-related expenses are expected to be around USD 1.2bn and accretion of PPA effects to contribute around USD 0.5bn to the Group's total revenues.

(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CMG#NYSE">CMG</a>).</li>

<li>Kevin Plank: At the end of April, Plank<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/03/37690723/kevin-plank-returns-as-ceo-under-armours-original-visionary-takes-charge-again"> returned as CEO</a> of Under Armour, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UA#NYSE">UA</a>) to replace Stephanie Linnartz. He previously served as CEO of the apparel company from 1996, the year he founded it, to 2020.</li>

<li>Sam Altman: In November 2023, Altman <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/11/35911061/sam-altman-to-return-as-openai-ceo-as-new-board-collaborating-to-figure-out-details">returned as the CEO</a> of OpenAI just four days after he was ousted from the position. He was reinstated as CEO on Nov. 22, two days after employees demanded that Altman be given back his CEO job.</li>

Ermotti, who assumed the position after CEO Ralph Hamers stepped down, was previously UBS&#8217; CEO from November 2011 to November 2020</li>
