The &#8220;tariff man&#8221; is back, with President Donald Trump renewing his trade war impulses. So far he&#8217;s threatened tariffs on Canada, Mexico, China, on all steel and aluminum imports. While Trump has relented, for now, on Canada and Mexico tariffs, the China tariffs have gone into effect, and China has responded in kind.
American companies do billions of dollars of business with China every year, and Chinese imports make up a considerable chunk of goods in the electronics, apparel, semiconductor, furniture, and toy industries here in the United States.
However, some companies have more pricing power than others. Firms with tight margins, ample competing substitutions, or inelastic demand may face consumer pushback on price increases.&nbsp;
Here are the five stocks that will suffer the most in a trade war with China.
Now, tariffs are simply import taxes charged on goods as they arrive at the border. A common misconception is that the exporting country pays tariffs, but tariffs are actually paid by the company importing the product as it crosses the border. Charging tariffs to the exporter would create a cluster headache as the government would be forced to collect taxes in various currencies; instead, the tax is charged to the imports and collected in US dollars.
Both left- and right-leaning economists agree that consumers eventually bear the tariff burden as companies pass on the cost increases to their customers. The companies that can least shift the burden to consumers that way are the ones that will suffer the most from tariffs.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hasbro Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HAS#NASDAQ">HAS</a>)</h2>
Thankfully, the holiday season has come and gone because toys and games could be getting more expensive in the next few months. Hasbro is a 100-year-old entertainment holding company that owns popular brands like Milton Bradley, Parker Bros, and Wizards of the Coast. The company makes popular games like Twister, Battleship, and Monopoly, along with toy lines like Nerf, Transformers, Power Rangers, GI Joe, and Play-Doh.

Hasbro is on our sell list over rival Mattel due to its heavy reliance on Chinese factories to produce its goods, despite attempts to shift production to India or Vietnam over the last few years. Gross profits have been in annual decline since 2021, and while analysts are still primarily bullish, cracks are beginning to form. In January, Stifel cut its price target on HAS shares from $82 to $77.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PDD Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PDD#NASDAQ">PDD</a>)</h2>
PDD Holdings is the United States equity of Chinese retail conglomerate Pinduoduo, which operates the discount merchandiser Temu. If you have a social media account, you've likely seen ads for Temu, which offers incredibly low pricing on a variety of merchandise, including clothes, sports jerseys, handbags, and other apparel.

Temu is one of the companies that will be heavily impacted by the decision to remove the de minimus exemption on packages arriving from China or Hong Kong. The exemption calls for a refrain from duties and taxes on merchandise received at the border valued under $800, which would describe nearly all the orders arriving on US shores from Chinese retailers like Temu. (Note: Trump reversed the exemption decision late Friday.) Retaliatory tariffs are expected from China as well, and analysts from JP Morgan, Benchmark, and Jeffries have all reduced their PDD price targets since election day in the US.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>)</h2>
Even megacap tech stocks like Apple aren't safe from broad tariffs, especially considering how reliant the iPhone maker is on Chinese sales. And while putting a $3.5 trillion company on a sell list might seem bold, Apple has been under the microscope for the last few months. AAPL shares had a solid 2024 run, jumping from $165 in April to $260 by Christmas. But the company has started 2025 stuck in molasses, and shares are already down more than 8% year-to-date.

Chinese iPhone sales are the obvious cause for concern. During its recent earnings release, Apple reported that iPhone sales in China declined 18% in Q4 2024, while competitor Huawei saw a more than 15% bump in smartphone sales in the same period. Apple may be forced to offer new discounts on iPhones to restore sales growth, and the looming threat of tariff retaliation could put even more pressure on Tim Cook's tech giant.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PVH Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PVH#NYSE">PVH</a>)</h2>
PVH has been dropping like a stone since cracking the $140 mark in December. The $140 price was the highest in over six years for PVH, but headwinds have rapidly materialized for the beleaguered apparel maker.

These tariffs will significantly impact production as PVH has 128 factories in China, 40 more than the next closest hub in Vietnam. The company has manufacturing locations in more than 30 nations, but the Chinese manufacturing output is crucial due to the high quantity of skilled workers employed. Nearshoring or reshoring wouldn't resolve this labor issue, and high-quality PVH brands like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger should see the most significant price increases.
To make matters worse, China's Ministry of Commerce has now added PVH to its unreliable entities list and claims its practices "interfered with the operations of Chinese companies." Analysts at Wells Fargo agree with the concerns as they downgraded the stock from Overweight to Equal Weight last week and dropped their price target from $130 to $105.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Under Armour Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UA#NYSE">UA</a>)</h2>
Under Armour makes sports apparel and footwear, and its strong manufacturing presence in China has placed it squarely in the crosshairs of a trade war. UA executives have warned about pressure from tariffs since Donald Trump's election night victory. Under Armour has stated that only 15% of its production remains in China, but the company's tight margins and competition could spell problems for its bottom line.

UA beat on earnings and revenue in the most recent February 6 conference call, but disappointing guidance sent shares tumbling. The stock lost more than 6.5% in the week of the earnings release as investors digested the guidance figures and tariff threats. No analyst covering the stock has updated their coverage since June 2024, but UA stock is clearly facing some serious headwinds as 2025 rolls along.

Barclays Maintains Equal-Weight on Under Armour, Lowers Price Target to $8

Under Armour Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UAA#NYSE">UAA</a>), (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UA#NYSE">UA</a>) shares are trading higher in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/premarket" rel="noreferrer noopener">premarket on Thursday</a> after the third-quarter earnings result.
The sportswear company reported third-quarter sales decline of 6% year-on-year to $1.401 billion, beating the analyst <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus estimate of $1.341 billion</a>.
Wholesale revenue decreased 1% Y/Y to $705 million, and direct-to-consumer revenue dropped 9% to $673 million.
Apparel revenue slipped 5%&nbsp;Y/Y, Footwear&nbsp;dropped 9%,&nbsp;while&nbsp;Accessories revenue increased 6%. North&nbsp;America&nbsp;revenue decreased 8% to $844 million, and international revenue slipped 1% to $558 million.
Gross profit decreased 0.8% to $665.2 million, and the gross margin expanded 240 basis points to 47.5%. The operating income for the quarter plunged 81% to $13.5 million with an operating margin of 1%.
The company's adjusted EPS was 8 cents, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">beating the consensus estimate of 4 cents.</a>
The&nbsp;company held $726.8 million in cash and equivalents&nbsp;as of December-end.&nbsp;Inventory remained flat at $1.1 billion.
Under Armour repurchased&nbsp;$25 million&nbsp;of its class C common stock in the third quarter, retiring 2.8 million shares.
By the end of the third fiscal quarter of 2025, the company had recognized&nbsp;$42 million&nbsp;in restructuring and impairment charges and&nbsp;$15 million&nbsp;in other related transformational expenses under the recent restructuring plan.
&#8220;As we sharpen our focus on strengthening the Under Armour brand, our updated product strategy and enhanced marketplace discipline combined with the shift to a category-led operating model are driving our transformation," said President and CEO Kevin Plank.
Outlook: Under Armour&nbsp;raised the FY25 adjusted EPS outlook from $0.24 &#8211; $0.27&nbsp;to&nbsp;$0.28 &#8211; $0.30 versus the $0.28 estimate.
The company sees a revenue decline of 10%, compared to the prior expectation of a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">low double-digit percentage decline.</a>
The company also raised adjusted operating income&nbsp;guidance&nbsp;from&nbsp;$165 million &#8211; $185 million&nbsp;to&nbsp;$185 million &#8211; $195 million.
Capital expenditures&nbsp;are expected to be&nbsp;$170 million&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;$180 million, compared to the previous estimate of&nbsp;$190&nbsp;million &#8211; $210 million.
Price Action: UAA shares are trading higher by 9.10% at $8.99 in premarket at the last check Thursday.

Earnings Scheduled For February 6, 2025

One of the biggest NBA trades in league history happened over the weekend with the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, a move that comes around two years after Mark Cuban <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports/23/12/36402593/mark-cubans-slam-dunk-deal-mavericks-majority-stake-sale-clears-the-net-whats-the-next-play">sold majority control of the Mavericks.</a>
Mavericks fans are upset by the deal and some are recalling a famous quote Cuban once said.
What Happened: Since joining the NBA in 2018, Doncic has been one of the best players in the league, something Cuban acknowledged in a January 2024 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports/24/01/36877701/mark-cuban-wont-buy-your-favorite-sports-team-believes-luka-doncic-hasnt-peaked-yet-plus-more-from">ask me anything.</a>
"Luka is going to get better. He hasn't reached his prime yet. He is amazing," Cuban said at the time.
The answer came in response to a fan's question about whether Cuban felt guilty about wasting Luka's prime, as the Mavericks had only reached the NBA Playoffs in three of Doncic's five full seasons at the time.
While that quote from a year ago about Doncic not yet hitting his prime likely has Mavericks fans upset, it&#8217;s actually a 2020 quote from Cuban, as <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10153214-mark-cuban-says-he-wasnt-part-of-decision-to-trade-luka-as-2020-quote-goes-viral">reported </a>by Bleacher Report.
"If I had to choose between my wife and keeping Luka on the Mavs, catch me at my lawyer's office prepping for a divorce," Cuban said previously.
The quote came from Cuban at a time when he still had majority control of the Mavericks. In 2023, Cuban sold majority control of the NBA team to the Adelson and Dumont families for $3.5 billion, retaining a 27% interest.
Cuban <a href="https://www.wfaa.com/article/sports/nba/mavericks/luka-doncic-trade-dallas-mavericks-owners-general-manager-mark-cuban-nico-harrison/287-4b7f83cd-85af-419f-b593-317856351e1b">confirmed </a>to local media that he was not involved in the Doncic trade negotiations, a move that some fans questioned since the former majority owner previously said he would still be in charge of basketball operations.
It appears that over time, Cuban's role with the team has minimized and based on the latest move, fans might not be happy.
Doncic finished third in NBA MVP voting last season and was the Rookie of the Year for the 2018-2019 season. The NBA star is a five-time All NBA first-team selection, one of only three players to complete this accolade before their 26th birthday, joining Kevin Durant and Tim Duncan.
The Mavericks lost in the NBA Finals last season and made the playoffs in four of their last five seasons.
On the Lakers, Doncic will team up with LeBron James and other players as they look to improve on recent years results. The Lakers won the NBA Championship in the 2020 season, also known as the COVID-impacted season that had different rules and took place inside the "NBA Bubble."
The Lakers have made the playoffs in four of the last five seasons with the 2020 season their only time in the NBA Finals since 2010.

Why It's Important: The NBA blockbuster trade, which also included players Maxi Kleber, Markieff Morris, Max Christie and Jalen Hood-Schifino along with several draft picks and a third team (Utah Jazz), has shocked the NBA world.
Some insiders and analysts are calling it the biggest NBA trade ever, a move that will be looked back upon for years if the Lakers or Mavericks are able to have postseason success following the deal.
The betting odds for the Los Angeles Lakers to win the NBA Championship were cut nearly in half immediately following the trade from +4,000 to +2,100, as <a href="https://www.actionnetwork.com/nba/los-angeles-lakers-trade-anthony-davis-luka-doncic-betting-market-reacts">reported </a>by Action Network. The Mavericks odds to win the NBA Championship went the other direction going from +2,000 to +4,000.
At the time of writing, odds at sportsbook DraftKings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DKNG#NASDAQ">DKNG</a>) show the Mavericks at +3,500, ranking 11th and the Lakers at +1,800 ranking sixth. The Boston Celtics (+240) and Oklahoma City Thunder (+245) are the betting favorites to win the NBA Championship.
The Lakers rank third in odds to win the Western Conference championship and make the NBA Finals at +950, ranking only behind the Thunder (+115) and Denver Nuggets (+650).
Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison is believed to be the person who made the deal happen and approached the Lakers about their interest in the superstar.
Harrison cited the support of Mavericks executives and coaches in the trade and said that items like fitness, defense and a looming contract extension may have factored into the deal.
While Harrison may not be a household name to many NBA fans, he is also famous for messing up another blockbuster NBA move. The former Nike Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NKE#NYSE">NKE</a>) <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/nba-active-basketball-news-nico-harrison-mishandled-massive-stephen-curry-deal-that-threw-accusations-of-fraud-on-nike/">employee </a>helped manage some NBA endorsements and pitched Stephen Curry on staying with the Nike brand when his deal was coming up for expiration.
A pitch that included mispronouncing Curry's name and having mentions of Kevin Durant in a recycled pitch deck led to Curry exiting Nike and going with rival Under Armour (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/US#NYSE">US</a>)(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UAA#NYSE">UAA</a>) instead.
While time will tell how good the trade is for the teams involved, Harrison could go down as failing to keep NBA stars around at both Nike and the Dallas Mavericks.

Katy Huberty, the Global Head of Research at Morgan Stanley, has spotlighted 20 stocks from companies that are likely to see significant benefits from the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
What Happened: Huberty expressed that we are currently at a &#8220;tipping point&#8221; for AI adoption. She underscored that businesses utilizing AI to boost their profits are on the verge of reaping considerable benefits.

2025 Outlook Updated: Under Armour raised its adjusted EPS forecast from $0.19 &#8211; $0.21 to $0.24 &#8211; $0.27. Revenue is still expected to decline by a low double-digit percentage, with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance">North America projected to drop 14% &#8211; 16%.</a>
The company expects gross margin to be up 125 to 150 basis points compared to the prior expectation of a 75 to 100 basis point improvement. Adjusted operating income is expected to be $165 million to $185 million, compared to the prior expectation of $140 million to $160 million.
