Despite the positive turnaround in operational activity, new investment deals continue to decline. In Q3, global fintech <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/research/report/fintech-trends-q3-2024/">funding declined to $7.3 billion</a>, a 25% quarter-over-quarter decline.&nbsp;
However, new insights reveal that the U.S. currently leads in the global fintech market, representing 60%, or six of the top ten deals made during the third quarter. All top three positions were held by American fintech names, including a $1.0 billion funding deal for Sedgwick, an Ohio-based employee compensation managed care organization (MCO).&nbsp;
Across the board, the fintech funding landscape remains volatile, with investors retreating from big-dollar deals. Higher market uncertainty, geopolitical tension, and an overactive interest rate environment have seen many investors shifting gears, looking at established fintech firms to provide near-term buoyancy.&nbsp;
Investors remain hawkish about the financial and banking services sector. However, new digital developments, coupled with rising consumer demand, could present a more attractive opportunity for investors&#8217; long-term strategy. Though new deal activity remains muted, a handful of companies managed to outshine expectations following stronger third-quarter financial results.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fidelity National Information Services</h2>
FIS (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIS#NYSE">FIS</a>) is an operator of one of the largest financial technology service providers worldwide and serves banks, capital markets, and various financial institutions. Annually, FIS processes more than $10 trillion in global transactions with a strong focus on banking and market technology.&nbsp;
<a href="https://www.investor.fisglobal.com/news-releases/news-release-details/fis-reports-strong-third-quarter-2024-results-and-raises-full">Third-quarter financial results</a> showed impressive gains across the board, with FIS reporting $2.6 billion in revenue, up 3% on a GAAP basis and 4% on an adjusted basis. The Brazil-based company operates a vast network of financial services, with a presence now in Mexico and Colombia, and is one of the largest credit operators in Brazil.&nbsp;
The third quarter represented one of the company's most outstanding performance periods, with <a href="https://api.mziq.com/mzfilemanager/v2/d/59a081d2-0d63-4bb5-b786-4c07ae26bc74/0597c6a3-fd57-859d-e889-879906cb094e?origin=1">year-over-year revenue up by 56%</a>, setting a new record at $2.6 billion. Total gross profit ended at $1.34 billion, marking an improvement of 76% year-over-year. Increased financial delivery comes on the back of stronger gross margins of 46%, up 3 percent from 43% in Q3 2023.
Customer acquisition played an important role during the third quarter. In Brazil, Nu Holdings added a robust 1.1 million customers each month through the three months ending September 30. The total customer base in Brazil now stands at 98.8 million, with expansion in international markets adding 1.2 million new customers during the quarter.&nbsp;
Better-than-expected customer performance in international markets was primarily driven by the delivery of new financial products. For instance, in January this year, Nu Holdings <a href="https://international.nubank.com.br/company/11724/">announced</a> the launch of Cuenta, a financial product aimed at Colombian-based clients.&nbsp;
Cuenta, a savings account that provides customers with unlimited transfers free of charge, forms part of the company's strategic roadmap to capture a larger market share in the country. By the start of this year, Nu Holding had held roughly a 5% share of the Colombian financial services market, serving over 800,000 credit card customers.&nbsp;
Share performance experienced major volatility during its initial public offering in December 2021. However, in more recent months, NU delivered impressive market gains, with share prices up approximately 66% since the turn of the year. This was the first rate reduction since March 2020.&nbsp;

Nu Holdings's Options Frenzy: What You Need to Know

Risk-on sentiment gained momentum on Wall Street after the Thanksgiving holiday, fueled by investor optimism over fourth-quarter profit forecasts for U.S. corporations, lifting both the S&amp;P 500 and Dow Jones <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">to fresh record highs.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 broke past the 6,040-point mark on Friday and closed at 6,032, extending its year-to-date gains to an impressive 27%. If the year ended on Friday, the broader U.S. stock market would have surged by a staggering 57% over the last two years, representing the strongest such rally since 1998. 
The Dow Jones also hit a record-high milestone, surging above the 45,000 level and bringing its year-to-date gains to 19%.
Technology stocks outperformed, with the Nasdaq 100 rising 1% on the day, buoyed by gains in the Magnificent Seven mega caps and semiconductor stocks.
Small caps stocks posted more modest gains, as the Russell 2000 index edged up 0.4%.
In the currency market, the U.S. dollar snapped its eight-week winning streak, pressured by a drop against the Japanese yen amid speculation of a possible Bank of Japan interest rate hike.
In the bond market, Treasury yields edged lower by about 5 basis points, with the 10-year yield approaching 4.2%, a level not seen since late October. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) rallied 1%, reaching over one-month highs.

Veteran Wall Street investor Warren Buffett is known for his unabashed takes on cryptocurrencies and has never shied away from voicing his disapproval in the harshest terms possible.
What happened: Buffett has made Berkshire Hathaway into one of the world&#8217;s most valuable corporations through a succession of acquisitions and investments over the years, becoming <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/movers-shakers/21/08/17298128/warren-buffett-turns-91-a-highlight-for-each-decade-of-his-life-1">one of the most followed stock investors</a> globally.
However, cryptocurrency as a financial asset has failed to capture the interest of the &#8220;Oracle of Omaha.&#8221;
During a January 2018 <a href="https://buffett.cnbc.com/video/2018/01/10/buffett-sets-the-stage-for-ceo-succession--full-interview.html?&amp;start=2225">interview </a>with CNBC, Buffett said he sees little hope for the asset class.
&#8220;In terms of cryptocurrencies generally, I can say almost with certainty that they will come to a bad ending," he argued. "If I could buy a five-year put on every one of the cryptocurrencies, I'd be glad to do it, but I would never short a dime's worth."

When Buffetts made these remarks, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization was $828 billion, compared to Berkshire Hathaway's valuation of $510 billion.
Fast forward to now, the cryptocurrency market has ballooned to a market value of $3.23 trillion, implying a 290%, or nearly fourfold, expansion.
During this time, leading cryptocurrencies recorded astronomical gains, with Bitcoin surging 520% and meme token Dogecoin exploding 2,961%.

In comparison, Berkshire's market valuation stood at $1.03 trillion. This meant that the cryptocurrency market is three times as big as Buffett's firm today.
It should be noted that the legendary investor has not bought cryptocurrencies,&nbsp; directly or through exchange-traded funds.&nbsp;
That said, Buffett and Berkshire are shareholders in Nu Holdings Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NU#NYSE">NU</a>), a crypto-friendly digital bank in Brazil. According to the company's latest 13F <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1067983/000095012324011775/0000950123-24-011775-index.htm">filing</a>, it had a position worth over $1 billion in Nu Holdings.&nbsp;
Why It Matters: For the uninitiated, the "Inverse Cramer" phenomenon hinges on the belief that doing the opposite of what Cramer advises could lead to profits.
In fact, an exchange-traded fund (ETF) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/specialty-etfs/24/01/36793492/exclusive-inverse-cramer-etf-shuts-down-how-the-magnificent-7-stocks-factor-in-and-a-broken-c">was floated in 2022</a>, allowing investors to bet against Cramer's predictions. The ETF eventually shut down earlier this year.
Even influential cryptocurrency analysts like Ali Martinez wrote, "Another sell signal," reacting to Cramer's endorsement.
