Net trade sales were USD 2,017 million in the U.S. and USD 1,521 million in the rest of the world. This is a 25 percent increase over earnings of $0.36 per share from the same period last year.

<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/xpeng" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chinese electric vehicle maker</a> XPeng (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XPEV#NYSE">XPEV</a>) plans to hire 8,000 workers this year, up from its earlier target of 6,000, founder He Xiaopeng said in an internal speech. 
With the new hires, XPeng expects its total headcount to approach 30,000 by the end of the year, according to a transcript of He&#8217;s remarks reviewed by Reuters on Wednesday.
XPeng&#8217;s stock has seen substantial growth, surging 52% year-to-date, outperforming the NYSE Composite Index&#8217;s 7% returns.

XPeng is accelerating <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46362384/xpeng-brings-ultra-smart-ultra-fast-evs-to-europe" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">its global expansion</a> with the official launch of its revamped G6 and G9 Ultra Smart SUVs in Europe, featuring ultra-fast 800V charging and AI-powered driving tech. The EV maker opened orders across eight European countries last year, with deliveries set to begin in late summer 2025.
As XPeng targets international growth, its financial momentum continues to build. In first-quarter 2025, the company reported a 141.5% year-over-year (Y/Y) revenue jump to 15.81 billion Chinese yuan ($2.18 billion), topping the analyst consensus estimate of 16.02 billion Chinese yuan and a 330.8% surge in vehicle deliveries to 94,008 units. Vehicle sales revenue climbed 159.2%, while its gross margin rose for the seventh quarter, reaching 15.6%.
Looking ahead, XPeng projects second-quarter deliveries of 102,000-108,000 units, up over 237% Y/Y. The company anticipates revenue of 17.5 billion Chinese yuan to 18.7 billion Chinese yuan, versus the analyst consensus estimate of 16.85 billion Chinese yuan.
As of July, XPeng has delivered 197,189 vehicles this year, already surpassing its full-year 2024 total, while expanding into more than 40 countries and regions.
XPeng has started developing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/06/45903304/xpeng-says-its-new-self-driving-chip-is-3x-more-powerful-than-nvidias-will-power-vw-cars" rel="noreferrer noopener">autonomous driving chips</a> and is working with Volkswagen (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VWAGY#OTC">VWAGY</a>) and other automakers as potential clients.
At the June launch event for the G7 model, CEO He Xiaopeng told the Financial Times that XPeng is integrating its Turing AI chip into upcoming Volkswagen vehicles set to launch in China in 2025.
Xiaopeng claimed the Turing chip delivers three times the computing power of Nvidia&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) Orin-X, positioning XPeng as a serious contender in the autonomous tech race.

Stellantis NV (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>) announced it would be pulling the plug on the development of its Hydrogen fuel cell technology, citing no potential in the sector in the mid-term future.

What Happened: The Detroit-based automaker said it will no longer work on the tech as well as scrap plans to launch a range of Hydrogen-powered vehicles this year due to poor Hydrogen refuelling infrastructure and lack of purchase incentives, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
"The hydrogen market remains a niche segment, with no prospects of mid-term economic sustainability," said a source, cited by Reuters, who was familiar with the matter.
The automaker does not anticipate an uptick in adoption of Hydrogen cell-powered vans until the end of the decade, the report suggests.
Why It Matters: The news comes as Stellantis has been investing in alternative propulsion technologies, as the automaker had announced a breakthrough in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/tech/25/04/45061846/stellantis-announces-breakthrough-solid-state-battery-with-factorial-energy-company-says-technology-will-debut-in-2026-demo-fleet">solid-state battery technology</a>, which the company intends to use in the Dodge Charger EV.
Stellantis is also exploring <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/06/45945138/stellantis-trials-new-5-minute-battery-swapping-tech-in-fiat-500e-fleet-report">battery-swapping technology</a>, with the company conducting battery-swapping trials in the Spanish capital, Madrid, with the Fiat 500e EV fleet.

This strategic move comes amidst an escalating price war that has seen competitors employ equally aggressive tactics. Meituan, for instance, has been distributing complimentary milk tea through coupons, while JD.com has been offering nightly crayfish meals at a fixed, remarkably low price.
Adding to the intensity, Taobao itself rolled out a 50 billion yuan subsidy plan on July 2, which quickly prompted counter-announcements from its rivals.
Analysts say Alibaba&#8217;s deep pockets give it a firm footing to challenge rivals, though Meituan remains the market leader in scale and efficiency.
On July 11, Meituan&#8217;s daily instant retail order volume reached an impressive 150 million, nearly double Taobao Shangou&#8217;s 80 million.
According to Bank of China International, Meituan will likely hold its lead through 2025 and could sustain flat operating profits even if aggressive price-cutting continues through year-end.
Despite the heavy discounting and the &#8220;burn money&#8221; strategies employed by these companies, analysts remain optimistic about the long-term potential of the instant commerce sector in China.
The Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, as cited by SCMP, projects that China&#8217;s instant commerce market is poised to exceed 2 trillion yuan ($279 billion) by 2030.
However, a recent report from JPMorgan Chase issued a cautionary note, suggesting that the share prices of Alibaba, Meituan, and JD.com could remain under pressure for the next three to six months.
This outlook is attributed to uncertainties surrounding profit margins and the sustainability of these extensive promotional campaigns.
Bridgewater Associates grew more optimistic about Chinese stocks after Beijing&#8217;s stimulus measures lifted its onshore China fund by 14% in the first half of the year, Bloomberg <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-15/bridgewater-grows-more-bullish-on-china-stocks-after-14-return?sref=TBDibEcD" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday.
In a second-quarter investor letter, the firm&#8217;s China unit said it had &#8220;moderately increased&#8221; its equity exposure as of June 30, citing strong policy support and attractive valuations.
Bridgewater credited China&#8217;s swift April response to market declines, triggered by U.S. tariffs, with helping stabilize equities and bonds.
The firm added that low valuations still offer solid risk-reward potential and plans to raise exposure to risk assets amid ongoing government support.
Price Action:&nbsp;BABA shares are trading lower by&nbsp;1.09% to&nbsp;$115.70 premarket at&nbsp;last check Wednesday.

Alibaba Intensifies Instant Delivery Fight With New Campaign

U.S. stock futures swung between gains and losses on Wednesday after ending on a mixed note on Tuesday. Futures of major benchmark indices were mixed.
President Donald Trump unveiled what he described as a &#8220;landmark&#8221; <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/asia/25/07/46434093/trump-says-hes-finalized-the-trade-deal-with-indonesia-touts-orders-for-50-boeing-jets-will-china-face-tougher-times-ahead">trade pact with Indonesia</a>, providing U.S. businesses with access to the Southeast Asian country, while securing significant agreements for American aviation and energy firms. 
Markets were also assessing <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/07/46430675/trump-powell-june-inflation-fed-rate-cuts">Tuesday&#8217;s CPI report</a>, showing inflation accelerated in June. In recent months, Jerome Powell has consistently resisted political pressure to lower interest rates, maintaining a wait-and-see approach amid growing uncertainty from rising tariffs. 
Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.48% and the two-year bond was at 3.95%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>&#8216;s projections show markets pricing a 97.4% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its July meeting.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, were lower in premarket on Wednesday. The SPY was down 0.093% at $621.56, while the QQQ declined 0.29% to $555.12, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.
Cues From Last Session:
On Tuesday, information technology stocks defied the broader market downturn, closing higher, while financial, materials, and healthcare stocks recorded the most significant losses.
U.S. stocks settled mixed, influenced by a mixed bag of earnings from major banks.
In contrast, the Nasdaq 100 surged to new record highs, breaking past the 23,000 mark, powered by a sharp rally in Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) and other chipmakers.
Wells Fargo &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WFC#NYSE">WFC</a>) reported better-than-expected second-quarter adjusted EPS, and JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) also reported upbeat second-quarter earnings.
Economic data showed U.S. inflation accelerating for a second consecutive month, with the headline consumer price index rising 2.7% year-over-year in June, the highest since February and in line with expectations.
However, core inflation, excluding food and energy, came in slightly below forecasts at 2.9%, against an expected 3.0%.
The Dow Jones index ended 436 points or 0.98% lower at 44,023.29, whereas the S&amp;P 500 index fell 0.40% to 6,243.76. Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.18% to 20,677.80, and the small-cap gauge, Russell 2000, also tumbled 1.99% to end at 2,205.05.

Insights From Analysts:
Louis Navellier said that the &#8220;Wall Street has finally figured out that this is how President Trump negotiates, namely by making the other side increasingly uncomfortable,&#8221; citing that stock market is largely ignoring the latest tariff news, such as 30% tariffs on the European Union (EU) and Mexico, and a whopping 50% on Brazil on Aug. 1st.
He added that &#8220;the CPI report is not a market mover, so the Producer Price Index (PPI) on Wednesday should provide more insight, especially any tariff impact on wholesale goods prices.&#8221;
Meanwhile, Ed Yardeni highlighted that the CPI report for June suggests that inflation is no longer declining toward the Fed&#8217;s 2.0% target. Instead, it might continue to hover around 3.0% for a while, as it has recently.
&#8220;Trump&#8217;s tariffs may be a contributing factor, though their impact remains debated. The core CPI inflation rate upticked to 2.9% last month, hinting that the core PCED inflation rate (at 2.7% in May) might have followed a similar trend.&#8221;
&#8220;The June CPI report reinforces the FOMC&#8217;s cautious stance,&#8221; Yardeni added.
Although Trump&#8217;s tariffs may not yet be significantly driving inflation, they appear to be contributing to inflation stalling at around 3.0%, supporting the FOMC&#8217;s hesitation to lower the FFR, he explained.

<li>Nuwellis Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NUWE#NASDAQ">NUWE</a>) surged 62.44% following the news of the company securing a key patent for its fluid management technology. This development could potentially have an impact on the company's future prospects.</li>
<li>Data Storage Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DTST#NASDAQ">DTST</a>) jumped 31.36% after the company announced plans to sell its subsidiary, CloudFirst, and initiate a share buyback.</li>
<li>BTCS Inc. Commodities, Gold, And Global Equity Markets:
Crude oil futures were trading lower in the early New York session by 0.38% to hover around $66.27 per barrel.
Gold Spot US Dollar rose 0.51% to hover around $3,341.98 per ounce. Its last record high stood at $3,500.33 per ounce. The U.S. Dollar Index spot was lower by 0.10% at the 98.5130 level.
Asian markets ended lower on Wednesday except India's S&amp;P BSE Sensex. Japan's Nikkei 225, Australia's ASX 200, China&#8217;s CSI 300, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, and South Korea's Kospi indices fell. European markets were mostly higher in early trade.
