Shares of crypto-linked stocks and Bitcoin miners are trading lower as markets react to President Trump's announcement of sweeping tariffs.

MARA Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MARA#NASDAQ">MARA</a>) shares are trading lower amid broader market weakness. The company on Thursday provided a Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) production and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/g44625642/mara-announces-bitcoin-production-and-mining-operation-updates-for-march-2025">mining operation update for March</a>.
What Happened: MARA Holdings said it mined 829 bitcoin in March, up 17% month-over-month from 706 bitcoin mined in February. 
Total bitcoin holdings grew to 47,531 as of the end of the month. The company&#8217;s energized hashrate increased 1% to 54.3 EH/s as of March 31. 
&#8220;Energized hashrate grew&nbsp;1%&nbsp;over February and we expect to finish construction of our 40-megawatt data center in Ohio by the end of April. We will continue to focus on being the dominant player in bitcoin mining while expanding our footprint in energy generation,&#8221; said Fred Thiel, chairman and CEO of MARA Holdings.
MARA Holdings shares are seeing some selling pressure Thursday as broader crypto markets fall with global risk assets following sweeping reciprocal tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Trump administration announced new <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/04/44621408/market-access-has-a-price-trump-unveils-list-of-tariffs-countries-targeted">tariffs</a> on several countries around the world late Wednesday, raising the risk of a global trade war and creating further economic uncertainty.
The S&amp;P 500 was last down nearly 3.5%, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. Bitcoin was down about 4.4% over a 24-hour period, trading around $82,150 at the time of writing. 
MARA Price Action: <a href="http://benzinga.com/quote/mara" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MARA Holdings shares</a> were down 9.14% at $11.26 at the time of publication Thursday, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) is increasingly popular <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44569292/congressman-buys-up-to-600k-in-bitcoin-etf-after-selling-1-million-in-goldman-sachs-stock-committee-assignment-could-be-red-flag">among corporate buyers</a>, with on-chain data suggesting ongoing accumulation by other large entities.
What Happened: In a detailed X <a href="https://x.com/cryptoquant_com/status/1907377531143016915">thread</a> on Wedneday, research firm CryptoQuant pointed out that despite public companies accumulating 91,781 BTC in Q1, Bitcoin dropped 12%, from $94,400 to $82,500. 
Tether emerged as a surprise buyer, adding 8,888 BTC, while Strategy (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) made the largest move, acquiring 81,785 BTC for more than $8 billion.
Other buyers included The Blockchain Company (+605 BTC), Semler Scientific Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMLR#NASDAQ">SMLR</a>) (+1,108 BTC) and Metaplanet (+2,285 BTC) (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MTPLF#OTC">MTPLF</a>). 
On-chain analytics shows more corporate buying could be on the horizon, with Marathon Digital (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MARA#NASDAQ">MARA</a>) planning a $2 billion stock sale for BTC purchases and GameStop (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GME#NYSE">GME</a>) exploring a $1.3 billion Bitcoin strategy through a convertible note offering.
However, the price decline was driven by long-term holders selling 178,000 BTC in Q1, outweighing corporate accumulation. Additionally, $4.8 billion in Bitcoin ETF outflows added further downward pressure on price.

As part of the deal, the Canada- and U.S.-listed crypto-infrastructure firm Hut 8 (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HUT#NASDAQ">HUT</a>) will transfer around 61,000 mining machines to American Bitcoin, taking an 80% stake in the joint venture. 
No cash was exchanged in the transaction.
Eric Trump, who will serve as the company's Chief Strategy Officer, said the mission is to build the world's largest Bitcoin miner, complete with its own reserve of the digital currency. 
He emphasized that this project remains separate from the family's real estate empire, the Trump Organization, but noted that collaborations with WLFI could emerge in the future.
"We're a hard-asset family," Trump told The Wall Street Journal. "Bitcoin is the next frontier for building something tangible in the digital world."

Why It Matters: World Liberty Financial, which the Trump brothers launched recently, is a decentralized finance project that has already rolled out meme coins and plans to issue a stablecoin backed by the World Liberty dollar.
American Bitcoin's executive team will feature a mix of familiar and new faces. 
Mike Ho, Chief Strategy Officer at Hut 8, will take on the role of executive chairman, while Matt Prusak, formerly of Hut 8, will serve as CEO. High-profile backers including Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen and FabFitFun's Michael Broukhim will join the board alongside Hut 8 executives.
Hut 8 will host the mining equipment across its 11 data centers and include the performance of American Bitcoin in its financial statements. 
The company's CEO Asher Genoot noted that access to cheap energy and efficient infrastructure will give American Bitcoin a cost edge in an increasingly competitive landscape.
"There's still more than a century's worth of mining left," Genoot said. "Our ability to do it cheaply at scale is our strategic advantage."
The Trump-led venture enters a market that's tightening. 
Bitcoin supply is capped at 21 million, and more than 90% has already been mined. 
Despite volatility and environmental critiques surrounding mining energy consumption, Eric Trump sees opportunity in the U.S.'s falling energy prices and crypto-friendly stance. "That's what gives America the edge," he said. "A government that supports low-cost energy and innovation."
