In early trials, Evo 2 accurately detected 90% of potentially harmful mutations in BRCA1, a gene associated with breast cancer. Sanofi SA (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SNY#NASDAQ">SNY</a>) and Johnson &amp; Johnson (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JNJ#NYSE">JNJ</a>) have discontinued the E.mbrace phase 3 study evaluating a vaccine candidate for extraintestinal pathogenic&nbsp;E. coli.
The E.mbrace <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sanofi.com/en/media-room/press-releases/2025/2025-02-13-06-00-00-3025576" rel="noreferrer noopener">study</a> is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, interventional phase 3 study evaluating the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of a single dose of the vaccine candidate compared to a placebo in the prevention of IED, which includes sepsis and bacteremia (blood infections).

An independent data monitoring committee (IDMC) conducted a scheduled review of the E.mbrace phase 3 study.
The companies determined that the vaccine candidate was not sufficiently effective at preventing invasive&nbsp;E. coli disease (IED) compared to placebo.
No safety signals related to the vaccine candidate were identified, and throughout the study, investigators ensured that participants who developed IED received prompt treatment and care.
In October 2023, Sanofi entered into an agreement with Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Janssen), a Johnson &amp; Johnson company, to develop and commercialize the vaccine candidate.
Under the terms of the agreement, both parties agreed to co-fund current and future research and development costs. Sanofi paid $250 million in upfront and development milestones to be followed by commercial milestones.
The study was initiated in June 2021 enrolling adults aged 60 years or older in stable health with a history of urinary tract infection in the past two years.
As a result of the discontinuation, Sanofi has recorded an impairment charge before tax of $250 million in the Q4 2024 IFRS results. This adjustment negatively impacts the full-year IFRS EPS reported in the Q4 2024 results press release on January 30, 2025, by 15 cents, from 4.59 euros previously to 4.44 euros now.
However, there is no impact on the business net income/EPS, which remain unchanged, respectively, at 8.91 billion euros/ 7.12 euros (non-IFRS).
Price Action: As of Thursday, SNY stock was up 0.18% at $54.66 during the premarket session.

Nipocalimab is a fully human IgG-1 monoclonal antibody that binds to FcRn, resulting in the reduction of circulating IgG levels including pathogenic IgG autoantibodies.1 The studies established that nipocalimab binds both specifically and with high, pH-independent affinity to FcRn.1 These preclinical studies also established the relationship between FcRn binding and the inhibition of IgG recycling, revealing that nipocalimab achieves time and dose-dependent IgG reductions of greater than 75% without affecting IgG production and without detectable effects on other adaptive and innate immune functions.1 The pH-independent nature of the binding, also noted in this publication, is one factor contributing to the ability to investigate nipocalimab in alloimmune diseases of pregnancy.1 The mechanism of action of nipocalimab was assessed through in vitro and in vivo studies, and attributes noted in the publication are consistent with clinical Phase 1, 2 and 3 studies of nipocalimab.1 The clinical significance is not yet known.&nbsp;

Many of the buys and sells cover the technology sector with some buying of blue-chip names like Johnson &amp; Johnson, Coca-Cola and Berkshire Hathaway.

Why It's Important: Gottheimer has made thousands of stock buys and sells in recent years and is one of the most active members of Congress when it comes to his trading activity.
While recent sells could be profit taking or for tax purposes, the timing of selling semiconductor stocks like Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor and Broadcom could be questionable given the potential battle with China on export restrictions and new tariffs.
Gottheimer ditched Nvidia and Microsoft stock and chose a different Magnificent 7 stock instead in Tesla. The move will likely be closely followed given Tesla CEO Elon Musk's close working relationship with President Donald Trump, which could lead to favorable contracts and regulation for Tesla.
Gottheimer serves on the Committee on Financial Services, which could make the timing of the purchases of Visa and Mastercard stock questionable also.

Warren Buffett's granddaughter Nicole Buffett says she was cut off financially and emotionally after speaking publicly about wealth inequality.
