Smart Money Is Betting Big In INTC Options

The European Commission has penalized a $841 million (797.72 million euros) fine to Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) for <a target="_blank" href="https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_24_5801" rel="noreferrer noopener">violating EU antitrust laws</a>.
The penalty follows an investigation into Meta's conduct, which found that the company abused its dominant market position by linking its classified ads service, Facebook Marketplace, with its primary social media network, Facebook.
The practice forced users into automatic access to Facebook Marketplace, limiting competition by providing the service with an unfair advantage.

The Commission also identified that Meta imposed unfair trading conditions on competing online classified ad providers, leveraging data from Facebook and Instagram ads to benefit its Marketplace service.
The Commission concluded that Meta's actions breached Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), prohibiting the abuse of a dominant market position.
The fine was determined based on the duration and gravity of the violations and the revenue generated by Facebook Marketplace. Meta must cease these practices immediately and avoid similar conduct in the future.
The investigation into Meta's business practices began in June 2021, with formal proceedings initiated by the European Commission. In December 2022, the Commission issued a Statement of Objections, to which Meta responded in June 2023.
Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President for Competition Policy, stated that Meta integrated Facebook Marketplace with its leading social media platform, Facebook, and set unfair trading conditions for rival online classified ad providers.
Vestager noted that these actions unfairly benefited Facebook Marketplace by giving it a significant advantage over competitors, which violates EU antitrust regulations. Meta is now required to halt these practices immediately.
Meta, in its response, said that they would <a target="_blank" href="https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/our-response-to-the-european-commissions-decision-on-facebook-marketplace/" rel="noreferrer noopener">appeal the decision</a>. The company said they built the marketplace in response to consumer demand and that the European Commission's decision provides no evidence of competitive harm to rivals or any harm to consumers.&nbsp;

Why Are Chip Stocks Trading Lower On Monday?

As the euphoria pertaining to artificial intelligence has increased in recent years, the 128-year-old Dow Jones Industrial Average index replaced the shares of Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) with Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) in its index. 
The shares of Santa Clara, California-based company, Nvidia Corp have jumped nearly 204% in the past year, whereas Intel Corp (INTC) shares have plummeted nearly 32% in the same period. 
What Happened: Nvidia Corp has emerged as the biggest winner in Wall Street's AI-fueled rally. By Friday's market close, Nvidia's market cap reached $3.62 trillion, surpassing Apple Inc.&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) valuation of $3.431 trillion, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/24/11/41761849/nvidia-blows-past-apple-to-become-worlds-most-valuable-company">marking a significant milestone for the chipmaker</a> as it races ahead amid surging demand for AI technologies.

"Nvidia is a well-run company and joining the Dow demonstrates just how powerful its rally has been in recent years after it was at the right place at the right time when no one else was," said Scott Colyer, chief executive at Advisors Asset Management, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-01/nvidia-set-to-replace-intel-in-the-dow-jones-industrial-average">according</a> to Bloomberg.
Some analysts also believe that Intel Corp's business, which was added to Dow in 1999, has been under pressure. The company has budgeted spending, cut jobs and stopped investor payouts. "Intel has lagged in a huge way," Adam Sarhan, founder of 50 Park Investments told Bloomberg. 
"Now, the Dow is evolving. You don't want to see stocks that were there 30 years ago. You want to see what's the strongest that survive today."
Why It Matters: The Dow Jones Industrial Average is a price-weighted index based on 30 U.S. stocks, which first started as an index of 12 industrial stocks. The index has been subject to criticism for its limited scope, particularly its underrepresentation of technology stocks, a sector that has exhibited substantial growth in recent times.
One disadvantage of a price-weighted index is that a given percentage change in the price of a higher-priced stock has a greater impact on the index's value than does an equal percentage change in the price of a lower-priced stock. Put another way, higher-priced stocks have more weight in the calculation of a price-weighted index.
Dow's price-weighted methodology is troublesome for technology companies that abstain from splits and have shares trading above $1,000. Nvidia has split its stock two times in the past four years, the most recent of which was a 10-for-1 swap that took effect in June, which has made it easier for Dow to include the shares in its gauge.
A few analysts are still weary of Nvidia's rally and believe that the chipmaker lacks a predictable earnings stream. Popularly, dubbed as the Warren Buffet of the U.K., Terry Smith, the founder and chief executive officer of Fundsmith Equity has said in a Nov. 5 interview in Tokyo that "I'm not confident that we know what the future of AI is because there are almost no applications people are paying for. Will they be willing to pay on a sufficient scale and a sufficient price to justify this? Because if not, the suppliers of the chips are going to have a problem," Smith added. 
The $32 billion (GBP 25 billion) Fundsmith Equity portfolio, <a href="https://www-benzinga-com.translate.goog/news/24/07/39695261/avoiding-nvidia-causes-fundsmith-equity-to-lag-behind-benchmark-in-first-half?_x_tr_sl=auto&amp;_x_tr_tl=en&amp;_x_tr_hl=en-GB&amp;_x_tr_hist=true">which prioritizes growth stocks</a>, holds stakes in major U.S. tech companies like Apple Inc, Meta Platforms, Inc., and Microsoft Corp. However, Smith opted out of investing in Nvidia, citing unpredictability in its future outlook.
Smith's Fundsmith Equity Fund underperformed this year, returning 9% in dollar terms compared to the MSCI World Index's nearly 20% gain. Smith attributed this to the concentration of performance in a few stocks and the increasing popularity of index funds.
Price Action: Charting back to five-year-old data, Nvidia Corp has surged nearly 2,792% and Intel Corp is down by approximately 55%. Nvidia Corp shares ended the trading day at $147.63 per share, whereas, Intel Corp was at $26.20 per share as of Friday&#8217;s close.

Uber's rival ride-hailing platform, Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LYFT#NASDAQ">LYFT</a>) said on Wednesday that it has partnered with Intel Corp.-owned (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) Mobileye, and May Mobility to provide <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/autonomous-vehicles">autonomous vehicle</a> rides to its customers.
What Happened: As part of Lyft&#8217;s partnership with Intel-owned Mobileye, the company will make its scaled rideshare platform available to all vehicles with Mobileye's self-driving technology.
&#8220;The objective is for future AV operators who want to deploy and manage large-scale fleets in various metropolitan areas in North America to purchase Mobileye Drive equipped, "Lyft-ready" vehicles from vehicle builders, access Lyft's rider demand and optimize utilization and profitability of their fleets,&#8221; Mobileye said about the partnership.
The companies, however, did not reveal when the first vehicles with Mobileye&#8217;s self-driving technology will show on the Lyft app.
May Mobility, meanwhile, will directly deploy autonomous vehicles to the Lyft platform in Atlanta starting in 2025, Lyft said. Lyft customers in Atlanta can be matched with a fleet of autonomous Toyota Sienna minivans equipped with May Mobility's autonomous technology as part of the partnership. The company, however, did not specify the number of vehicles that will be deployed. 
"Lyft's aim is to connect AVs, drivers, riders, and partners to create new opportunities for all. Our rideshare network will continue to evolve as millions of people will have the opportunity to earn billions of dollars whether they choose to drive, put their AVs into service, or both," David Risher, CEO of Lyft, said. 
Why It Matters: Lyft&#8217;s AV comes on the heels of Tesla Inc.&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) announcement that it expects to start an autonomous ride-hail service in Texas and California starting next year, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41484511/palo-alto-may-open-streets-to-tesla-robotaxis-but-california-regulators-will-decide-fate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">subject to regulatory approval</a>.
However, the vehicles might not all operate as driverless robotaxis initially as some states demand a safety driver until the company touches certain milestones in terms of miles and hours driven, the company then said.
However, company CEO Elon Musk expressed confidence that the company will be <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/top-stories/24/10/41279865/elon-musk-may-unveil-teslas-robotaxi-but-consumers-respond-with-ehhh-new-study-reveals-skepticism-ne" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">operating driverless paid rides sometime next year.</a>
Tesla also unveiled a no-pedal, no-steering wheel dedicated robotaxi product last month called the Cybercab. Cybercab, Musk then said, will enter production ‘before 2027' and will be priced below $30,000. Until then, the ride-hail fleet will be composed of the company's Model 3 and Model Y.
Uber, meanwhile, has a partnership with Alphabet Inc&#8217;s Waymo since 2023. Nvidia briefly passed Apple <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39386946/microsoft-apple-step-aside-nvidia-is-now-the-most-valuable-public-company-in-the-world">in market cap </a>in June before sliding over the summer.<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/quotes/MSFT/"> </a>Nvidia&#8217;s ascent to the top highlights the growing importance of AI technology and the pivotal role that Nvidia's specialized hardware plays in its development.&nbsp;
Despite Nvidia's remarkable growth over the past year, analysts remain bullish on the company's growth ahead. The three most recent analyst ratings were released by BofA Securities, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley in October with an average price target of $163.33 between the three. There&#8217;s an implied 17.04% upside for Nvidia stock from these analyst ratings.
Last Friday, S&amp;P Dow Jones announced that Nvidia <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/broad-u-s-equity-etfs/24/11/41724410/nvidia-joining-dow-jones-industrial-average-where-tech-giant-ranks-in-the-index-why-sh">is joining the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Nov. 8 </a>replacing Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) and joining Apple in the blue-chip index.

Nvidia Blows Past Apple To Become World's Most Valuable Company

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) disclosed a new round of trades that includes bets on billionaires Warren Buffett, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk ahead of the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election"> 2024 presidential election.</a>
What Happened: Greene disclosed purchasing multiple stocks on Tuesday, with the trades all made on Nov. 1 and tracked on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/gov-trades/members/marjorie-taylor-greene">Benzinga's Government Trades</a> page for the representative.
Here are the stocks bought by Greene, with each trade disclosed in a range of $1,000 to $15,000:

Greene previously <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/10/41266843/marjorie-taylor-greene-boosts-stock-portfolio-with-ai-exposure-buys-jpmorgan-and-this-hot-magnif">disclosed several trades</a> in October, which included buying some of the same stocks, including Berkshire Hathaway, Intel, Tesla and Meta Platforms. In September, Greene <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/24/09/41031499/marjorie-taylor-greene-stays-loyal-to-trump-keeps-djt-stock-buys-into-warren-buffetts-berkshire-in-l">also bought </a>Berkshire Hathaway and Intel shares.
In May, Greene <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/05/38611874/marjorie-taylor-greene-reveals-new-stock-trades-after-2-year-gap-berkshire-hathway-goldman-sachs">disclosed her first </a>stock purchases in several years, which included Berkshire Hathaway and Hershey shares.
Since May, Greene has been actively trading and adding to positions with a strong interest in technology companies and chip stocks.
Greene's latest positions could raise red flags similar to other investments as she is on the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation. The representative is also on the Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce.
Knowledge of technology and cybersecurity deals could help several stocks held in her portfolio.

Why It's Important: Greene could also be positioning her portfolio based on the 2024 presidential election, a race which sees the representative supporting Donald Trump.
Chip stocks and technology companies were among <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/10/41584466/these-10-stocks-were-the-best-s-p-500-performers-in-2017-when-trump-was-president-will-history-r">the best performing </a>in the S&amp;P 500 in 2017, Trump's first year in the White House previously. Energy stocks <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/10/41606114/10-s-p-500-stocks-were-worst-performers-in-first-year-of-trumps-presidency-will-they-sink-again">underperformed in 2017,</a> which could make Greene's buy of Duke Energy a bit of a surprise if she is betting on a Trump victory.
Tesla is expected to be a company that benefits from a Trump victory. Tesla CEO Elon Musk endorsed Trump for president and could have a role in Trump's White House.
Trump has spoken out against electric vehicles and wants to eliminate consumer tax breaks for EVs. Tesla could benefit from the elimination of subsidies and tax breaks as they could be more harmful to competitors in the electric vehicle space and not hurt Tesla as much as its peers.
While Greene has been actively buying stocks over the last several months, she has not reported selling her shares of Trump Media &amp; Technology (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DJT#NASDAQ">DJT</a>), the Trump co-founded media company that completed a SPAC merger earlier this year.
Greene disclosed buying Digital World Acquisition shares back in October 2021, the SPAC that took Trump&#8217;s media company public in March 2024.
The transaction was done with shares trading between $67.96 to $118.80. A tweet from UnusualWhales pins the purchase price at $94.20, meaning Greene is down significantly on her $15,000 to $50,000 purchase in the Trump-linked stock. Shares of DJT trade at $39.13 at the time of writing.
With the latest stock transactions, Greene increased her holdings in technology stocks along with placing bets on Buffett to continue powering Berkshire Hathaway as the stock trades near a $1 trillion market cap.
Not many can say that their investing portfolios are betting on Trump, Musk and Buffett, but Greene can.
