Stocks Notch Best Week In Years As Dip Buying On Tariff Crisis Gathers Momentum

Huntington Ingalls shares are trading higher after Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock from Sell to Buy and raised its price target from $145 to $234.

Wall Street regained momentum, reversing early-session losses and pushing major indexes into positive territory by midday trading in New York, as investors welcomed upbeat bank earnings and cooler-than-expected inflation data, while largely shrugging off trade war concerns after China raised tariffs on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/04/44756353/xi-jinping-says-there-are-no-winners-in-tariff-war-as-china-slaps-125-tariffs-on-us-goods-urges-trump-to-immediately-correct-wrongdoings">U.S. goods to 125%.</a>
Producer prices cooled to 2.7% year-over-year in March, well below the 3.3% consensus, while the monthly figure declined by 0.4% — the steepest drop since 2023. 
A day earlier, consumer prices also eased more than expected. However, both inflation reports predate the implementation of new trade tariffs. The University of Michigan's latest consumer sentiment index fell sharply to 50.4, its lowest since June 2022 and below expectations. 
Meanwhile, inflation expectations surged: short-term projections hit their highest since 1990, and long-term views reached levels last seen in 1981, underscoring growing concerns over persistent price pressures. In the bond market, the 30-year Treasury yield retreated to 4.90% after briefly touching 4.99% during intraday trading. 
The dollar pared some losses, though it remained near its lowest level since April 2022, based on a trade-weighted index. 
JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>) topped first-quarter earnings estimates and issued upbeat guidance, lifting its shares nearly 3% and outpacing peers. 
Gold prices extended their rally, jumping 1.9% to a record $3,230 per ounce — poised for their strongest weekly gain since March 2020. The surge in bullion and silver — with the latter rising over 3% on Friday — sparked strong gains in mining stocks. 
The VanEck Gold Miners ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GDX#NYSE">GDX</a>) soared 5.5% on Friday and nearly 20% for the week, heading for its highest level since December 2012. 
Newmont Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NEM#NYSE">NEM</a>), the world's largest gold miner, jumped 9% on the day and 25% on the week, marking its best weekly performance since 1998.

Shares of aerospace and defense companies are trading higher following President Trump's decision to implement a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for all countries except China.

Shares of military shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HII#NYSE">HII</a>) were <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/premarket">trading higher in premarket </a>on Monday after delivering the first two Lionfish small uncrewed undersea vehicles to the U.S. Navy.
This marks a key development in a defense contract that could <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/04/g44664263/hii-delivers-initial-lionfish-suuvs-to-u-s-navy-under-multi-year-program">eventually encompass 200 units and exceed $347 million</a> in total value.
The Lionfish system, derived from HII's REMUS 300 line, is a customizable underwater drone engineered for adaptable use in a range of defense applications like mine countermeasures, surveillance, electronic warfare and submarine tracking.
It was created through a collaboration with the U.S. Navy and the Defense Innovation Unit, aiming to fast-track the integration of commercially developed autonomous technologies into military missions.

The Lionfish initiative marks the Navy's first move from a prototype to full-scale manufacturing within its innovation-focused acquisition strategy. Lionfish remains the sole underwater drone to meet the Navy's cybersecurity requirements.
&#8220;The success and on-time delivery of Lionfish is the product of close collaboration between the government and industry team that will put a critical mine hunting capability in the hands of sailors and marines in an operationally relevant time frame,&#8221; said Duane Fotheringham, president of Mission Technologies&#8217; Uncrewed Systems business group.
The REMUS series allows for quick integration of mission-specific payloads and future tech upgrades. 
In 2023, HII obtained the manufacturing contract and launched production at its specialized autonomous systems site in Pocasset, Massachusetts. 
Since its inception, the REMUS line has been adopted by over 30 nations, including more than a dozen NATO allies. Over 700 units have been sold globally, and over 90% remain operational after more than two decades.
For FY25, Huntington&nbsp;Ingalls sees Mission&nbsp;Technologies'<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/02/43534128/huntington-ingalls-sinks-on-q4-earnings-miss-margins-cash-flow-take-a-hit">&nbsp;revenue of&nbsp;$2.9 billion – $3.1 billion</a> and a total revenue of $11.80 billion – $12.20 billion.
