The European Commission has penalized a $841 million (797.72 million euros) fine to Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) for <a target="_blank" href="https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_24_5801" rel="noreferrer noopener">violating EU antitrust laws</a>.
The penalty follows an investigation into Meta's conduct, which found that the company abused its dominant market position by linking its classified ads service, Facebook Marketplace, with its primary social media network, Facebook.
The practice forced users into automatic access to Facebook Marketplace, limiting competition by providing the service with an unfair advantage.

The Commission also identified that Meta imposed unfair trading conditions on competing online classified ad providers, leveraging data from Facebook and Instagram ads to benefit its Marketplace service.
The Commission concluded that Meta's actions breached Article 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), prohibiting the abuse of a dominant market position.
The fine was determined based on the duration and gravity of the violations and the revenue generated by Facebook Marketplace. Meta must cease these practices immediately and avoid similar conduct in the future.
The investigation into Meta's business practices began in June 2021, with formal proceedings initiated by the European Commission. In December 2022, the Commission issued a Statement of Objections, to which Meta responded in June 2023.
Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President for Competition Policy, stated that Meta integrated Facebook Marketplace with its leading social media platform, Facebook, and set unfair trading conditions for rival online classified ad providers.
Vestager noted that these actions unfairly benefited Facebook Marketplace by giving it a significant advantage over competitors, which violates EU antitrust regulations. Meta is now required to halt these practices immediately.
Meta, in its response, said that they would <a target="_blank" href="https://about.fb.com/news/2024/11/our-response-to-the-european-commissions-decision-on-facebook-marketplace/" rel="noreferrer noopener">appeal the decision</a>. The company said they built the marketplace in response to consumer demand and that the European Commission's decision provides no evidence of competitive harm to rivals or any harm to consumers.&nbsp;

It is worth reminding that you cannot take advantage of new upcoming opportunities if you are not holding enough cash.&nbsp; When adjusting hedge levels, consider adjusting partial stop quantities for stock positions (non ETF); consider using wider stops on remaining quantities and also allowing more room for high beta stocks.&nbsp; High beta stocks are the ones that move more than the market.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Traditional 60/40 Portfolio</h3>
Probability based risk reward adjusted for inflation does not favor long duration strategic bond allocation at this time.

However, rides then were limited to the nearly 300,000 riders who signed up to join the company&#8217;s waitlist. The company was adding new riders to the service incrementally.&nbsp;However, it has now scrapped the waitlist altogether.
&#8220;La La Land is now our third city open to all riders, with waitlists removed and more cities on the way,&#8221; the company&#8217;s Chief Product Officer Saswat Panigrahi said in a post on X.

Riders in Los Angeles can now download the Waymo One app and avail a ride around nearly 80 square miles of LA County.
&#8220;We intend to grow our service area to cover more of the city in the future,&#8221; Waymo said in a statement.

Alphabet's Waymo Opens Robotaxi Rides For All In Los Angeles After San Francisco, Says 'More Cities On The Way'

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) reportedly plans to unveil a new AI wall tablet to challenge Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) and Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) in the smart home race.
What Happened: Apple's device, codenamed J490, can control appliances, handle video calls, and leverage AI to navigate apps.
The device is expected to be announced as early as March and will serve as a home command center, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-11-12/apple-home-hub-detailed-apple-intelligence-homeos-square-ipad-like-design">reported</a> Bloomberg, citing people with knowledge of the effort.
Available in silver and black, it features a 6-inch screen, camera, rechargeable battery, and speakers.
It also combines Apple Watch and iPhone StandBy modes with Siri and Apple Intelligence as the primary interface.

While a Trump win could be good for many companies and the overall stock market, there could be plenty of losers including companies that have previously upset the former president.

Meta Platforms won the poll as the company that could be most negatively impacted by the Trump victory in the 2024 election. The company, which owns Facebook and Instagram, could be fearing the worst after it previously banned Trump from the social media platforms for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Trump has<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/social-media/24/04/38152630/if-you-invested-1-000-in-meta-platforms-stock-when-donald-trump-said-facebook-was-always-ant"> publicly attacked Meta</a> many times and previously accused the company of spreading election misinformation.
Meta investors could also be scared that Trump threatened the company's CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39723781/trump-threatens-to-jail-metas-mark-zuckerberg-and-election-fraudsters-if-re-elected-dont-do-it-be-ca">with jail time </a>if he won the 2024 election.
"They have no shame! All I can say is that if I'm elected President, we will pursue Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time,"&nbsp;Trump said in July.
Tesla ranking second in the poll could be a bit of a surprise given the electric vehicle company <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/11/41813356/elon-musks-net-worth-soars-by-26-5-billion-in-single-day-after-tesla-stock-surges-post-trump-vic">has soared in value</a> after Trump's win. Tesla CEO Elon Musk endorsed Trump, campaigned for him and will likely have a role in the new White House administration.
Trump has been openly critical of the electric vehicle sector and will likely end federal credits for consumers who buy an electric vehicle. While this could be bad news for the sector, Tesla could be less impacted as it relies less on credits and is profitable unlike many of its electric vehicle competitors in the sector.
While some analysts think Trump's victory could help boost the chances that Tesla gets regulatory approval for autonomous vehicles to push its robotaxi vision forward, it's worth noting that Trump<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/10/41298125/maybe-musk-missed-the-memo-trumps-plan-to-ban-autonomous-vehicles-could-sour-friendship"> threatened to ban </a>autonomous vehicles from roads.
Alphabet could be another stock to watch as vice-presidential-elect J.D. Vance previously said the tech giant<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/07/39826475/trumps-new-running-mate-j-d-vance-wants-to-break-up-google-could-2024-election-be-bad-for-big-te"> should be broken up</a>.
