The National Confectioners Association, representing candy makers, has stated that the industry needs more time and alternatives to meet demand, warning that the use of natural colors could drive up prices.

For the first time, management indicated plans to enter the fresh pet food segment through the planned launch of Blue Buffalo Love Made Fresh in the second half of the year, he added.
Although General Mills' fundamentals have yet to fully recover, the full-year earnings guidance "embeds enough cushion" for the company to meet its delivery targets, despite the ongoing sluggish environment, the analyst stated. "We are also encouraged by management&#8217;s acknowledgment that prices need to come down further," he wrote.

Stifel On General Mills
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/60a26db838c1fd0001800f03/matthew-smith">Analyst Mathew Smith</a> reiterated a Buy rating, while cutting the price target from $65 to $56.
General Mills reported "a slightly stronger fourth quarter," with earnings of 74 cents per share, "primarily driven by favorable inventory timing in its North America Pet business," Smith said. Management's full-year guidance includes a decline in earnings in the range of -15% to -10%, "with a heavier burden from reinvestment than we anticipated," he added.
The higher investment is required to improve General Mills' volumes and ability to "sustainably grow both organic sales and profit," the analyst stated. The company's volume share performance is improving "where investments have taken hold," he further wrote.
GIS Price Action: Shares of General Mills declined by 0.36% to $50.50 at the time of publication on Thursday.

The global packaged food company registered quarterly adjusted earnings per share of 74 cents, beating the analyst consensus estimate of 71 cents. Quarterly sales of $4.56 billion (down 3% year over year) missed the Street view of $4.59 billion.
"Our number one goal in fiscal 2026 is to restore volume-driven organic sales growth," said General Mills Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Harmening. "To do that, we'll invest further in consumer value, product news, innovation, and brand building, guided by our remarkable experience framework and highlighted by Blue Buffalo's national launch into fresh pet food coming later in calendar 2025."
General Mills expects its fiscal 2026 adjusted diluted EPS to decline 10%-15% in constant currency from the fiscal year 2025 base of $4.21. The company projects organic net sales to range between a 1% decline and a 1% increase.
General Mills shares rose 1.4% to trade at $51.40 on Thursday.

Tech stocks climbed to new highs early Wednesday, with the Nasdaq 100 briefly touching 22,329 points after the opening bell, surpassing its previous <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/06/46096528/nasdaq-100-record-highs-rally-historical-performance">peak from February 19.</a> 
Yet, by midday trading, the rally lost steam, with major indices giving back early gains. By 12:30 p.m. ET, the Nasdaq 100 was trading at 22,234, up 0.2% on the day. Other large-cap benchmarks hovered near the flatline, while the Russell 2000 fell 0.7%, reflecting weakness in small-cap names.
At a NATO meeting in the Netherlands, President Donald Trump said that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran remains in place and that the United States will continue exerting pressure on Tehran. He clarified that while sanctions remain, Iran is currently allowed to sell oil to China.
Trump also renewed his call for NATO allies to raise their defense spending to 5% of GDP, more than double the current 2% guideline, arguing that Europe must carry a larger share of the military burden.
In day two of his testimony before Congress, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said that evolving trade conditions could influence monetary policy decisions, suggesting that future trade agreements might create room for interest rate cuts—though no timing was provided.
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) led chipmaker gains, rising 3.1% and reaching its highest level since early December 2024. The stock is tracking toward its strongest monthly performance since May 2023.
The broader chip sector is also rallying. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) is up 15% month-to-date, on track for its best monthly return since November 2023.
Bond markets were steady, with the 10-year Treasury yield holding at 4.31%, showing little reaction to Powell's testimony or geopolitical headlines.
In commodities, oil prices rebounded 2% to $66 per barrel, after falling more than 12% over the previous two sessions. In industry news, Shell plc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHEL#NYSE">SHEL</a>) is reportedly in early-stage talks to acquire rival BP plc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>), though no formal offer has been made yet.
Gold was unchanged at $3,328 per ounce, while silver gained 0.5% to $36.
In crypto markets, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) advanced 1.2%, trading just above $107,000.

Quarterly net sales for General Mills&#8217; North America Retail segment were down 10% to $2.6 billion,&nbsp;North America Pet segment were up 12% to $675 million, North America Food service segment were down 2% to $579 million, and International segment were up 11% to $739 million.
Adjusted gross margin was down 220 basis points to 32.7% of net sales, driven primarily by higher input costs and unfavorable net price realization and mix.
Unfavorable trade expense timing was a 150-basis point headwind to adjusted gross margin in the quarter.
Adjusted operating profit of $622 million was down 22% in constant currency, driven by lower adjusted gross profit dollars. Adjusted operating profit margin was down 330 basis points to 13.7%.&nbsp;

General Mills launched a multi-year global transformation initiative under its Accelerate strategy to streamline operations and enhance agility through new tools, technologies, and operating models.
The initiative, along with other efficiency efforts, is expected to deliver $100 million in incremental cost savings in FY2026.
The company declared a quarterly dividend of 61 cents per share, payable August 1, 2025, to shareholders of record July 10, 2025. This represents a 2% increase from the previous quarterly rate.
