<li>Spirit Airlines has successfully emerged from bankruptcy. The carrier met its goal of a first-quarter exit after facing significant financial challenges. CEO Ted Christie stated that the airline is leaner and more agile.</li>

On Friday, President Donald Trump celebrated 50 days in office. &#8220;The winning never stops,&#8221; the White House touted.
But the losing can be felt in the world of investment banks and corporations that were once hungry for growth.
&#8220;Strategic M&amp;A has gotten off to an excruciatingly slow start,&#8221; according to a PitchBook analysis published today.
January saw the lowest M&amp;A volumes in a decade, and February didn't exactly bring the sunshine either. Companies are stuck in a mess of antitrust regulations, price mismatches and market turmoil, the firm added.
Wasn&#8217;t M&amp;A supposed to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/24/11/41805370/jim-cramer-hopes-m-a-to-come-back-bigly-under-trump-administration">come back &#8220;bigly&#8221;</a> under Trump? Any <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/11/41979935/golden-years-for-ma-deals-ahead-under-trump-analysts-highlight-top-10-large-cap-candidates">talk of M&amp;A dominance</a> that was expected after the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/sector-etfs/24/11/41952823/republicans-set-to-hold-slim-house-majority-what-it-means-for-energy-financial-defense-sectors">GOP sweep in November</a>, is coming across as just that &#8211; talk.
Just look at top tech companies like Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>). They&#8217;re are sitting on their hands instead of making deals. 
Pitchbook points out that the Redmond, Washington-based company hasn't acquired anything in the last 18 months. Most of its fellow big-tech comrades aren&#8217;t sitting at the M&amp;A table, either. Instead, their would-be M&amp;A cash is going toward AI infrastructure.
And then there's the market sell-off. On Friday, Barron&#8217;s <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/trump-mergers-tariffs-banks-c4fdc61d">recalled</a> November when &#8220;Wall Street was full of hope.&#8221;
At the time, shares of Goldman Sachs (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GS#NYSE">GS</a>), JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>), and Morgan Stanley (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MS#NYSE">MS</a>) spiked. This indicated that an M&amp;A &#8220;revival&#8221; under Trump's second term was in our midst. Fast-forward to today: Goldman Sachs' chief economist <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/goldman-sachs-chief-economist-just-160521522.html">downgraded</a> the entire U.S. economy; JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon is sounding the alarm — <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/events/25/03/44290692/jamie-dimon-warns-of-economic-weakening-negative-consumer-sentiment">once again</a>; and Morgan Stanley <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/deals/morgan-stanley-research-sees-slowdown-ma-activity-first-half-2025-amid-2025-03-13/">expects</a> there won&#8217;t be much action until the third quarter. 
And earlier Friday, the University of Michigan's latest survey <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/03/44331170/us-consumer-confidence-plunges-as-inflation-fears-hit-highest-level-since-1993" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">showed a rapid decrease </a>in consumer confidence as economists use words like &#8220;horrific&#8221; and &#8220;scary&#8221; to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44337983/economists-react-to-march-consumer-confidence-plunge-this-is-a-horrific-report">describe the numbers</a>.
Sounds more like &#8220;the winning&#8221; never started.

Shares of banks and financial services stocks are trading higher amid an overall market rebound following recent weakness.

U.S. stocks were higher, with the Dow Jones index gaining around 1% on Friday.
Shares of Semtech Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMTC#NASDAQ">SMTC</a>) rose sharply during Friday's session after the company reported better-than-expected <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/03/44317455/semtech-shares-soar-after-better-than-expected-q4-results-details">fourth-quarter financial results</a>.
Semtech reported quarterly earnings of 40 cents per share, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of 32 cents by 25%. Quarterly revenue of $251 million beat the consensus estimate of $249.19 million and is up from $192.94 million from the same period last year.
Semtech shares jumped 12.7% to $36.86 on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Treasury yields slipped further on Tuesday. The 10-year Treasury yield stood at 4.16%, while the two-year yield was at 3.93%. According to the CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool</a>, there is a 91% chance that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged for the March meeting.

Real estate, consumer staples, health care and utilities were the only sectors that advanced on Monday. The market witnessed the second worst trading day of March ever as information technology, energy, consumer discretionary, and materials led the decline.
On the economic front, February&#8217;s S&amp;P final U.S. manufacturing PMI came in at 52.7 as compared to the preliminary reading of 51.6. This was at a 32-month high signaling an improvement in the health of the manufacturing sector.
The ISM Manufacturing PMI rose to 50.3 in February 2025, indicating a second consecutive month of slight expansion for U.S. manufacturing. In January, private residential construction spending decreased by 0.4%, with notable reductions in both multifamily construction and home improvement expenditures.

Bearish investor sentiment surged to a near-historic 60.6% in late February, the highest in 30 months, signaling a potential contrarian buying opportunity.
Ryan Detrick of Carson Research noted that historically, stocks average a 28% gain a year after such high bearish readings, although exceptions like 2008 exist. He observed that even at a 55% bearish threshold, returns are generally strong.
Detrick suggests that barring a financial crisis, which he deems unlikely, "investors willing to stay strong and not panic sell" could see significant gains, with the S&amp;P 500 averaging nearly 13% higher in six months and 18% in a year following similar sentiment spikes.
Talking about the effects of Trump's policies on the market, the chairman and CIO of Navellier &amp; Associates, Louis Navellier said, "The volatility is certainly being fed by Trump 2.0 moves, with tariffs scheduled to be launched soon,"
Economist Jeremy Siegel, on the other hand, stated that investors are taking profits on high-flying tech and reconsidering value stocks. However, he added that slowing economic growth could hamper the value stocks as well. "In a weakening economy, all stocks face challenges, though dividend-paying and more defensive equities may benefit from lower interest rates," he added.
