In two <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114840265771030416">letters </a>dated July 11, 2025, President Donald Trump notified the leaders of both regions that 30% tariffs would be levied on their goods beginning August 1, 2025. The tariffs—outlined in direct correspondence with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen—reflect a broad policy shift that places economic pressure on allies to address long-standing U.S. concerns over trade deficits, narcotics trafficking, and market access.

General Motors Co. Trump Targets Mexico, EU With 30% Tariffs

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) has announced a <a target="_blank" href="https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RCLRPT-25V455-7716.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">recall</a> of more than 850,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a faulty fuel system component that may cause engines to stall while driving. The recall affects 11 models, including the Lincoln Navigator, Ford F-150, Explorer, Mustang, and various Super Duty trucks manufactured between July 2021 and July 2022.
The issue stems from a low-pressure fuel pump in the fuel delivery module, which can fail due to internal contamination and tight component clearances. This failure can lead to a sudden loss of fuel pressure and engine shutdown, especially under low fuel or high-temperature conditions. Drivers might notice signs such as rough idling, reduced power, or a check engine light before a failure occurs.
As of June, Ford had received nearly 1,900 warranty claims and over 80 related field and customer service reports. No accidents or injuries have been reported. The company is developing a fix and will begin mailing notices to vehicle owners in mid-July.

The defective component was supplied by Phinia Inc., based in Chihuahua, Mexico. Ford linked the problem to changes made in the supplier&#8217;s manufacturing process, which increased the risk of fuel pump friction and vapor lock. An investigation into the issue began in 2022.
This latest action adds to Ford&#8217;s growing list of vehicle safety challenges. Just weeks ago, the automaker also initiated a recall of Lincoln Aviator SUVs due to an adhesive flaw, another sign of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/06/46068633/ford-recalls-aviator-suvs-as-adhesive-issue-adds-to-automakers-mounting-recall-woes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mounting recall woes</a> at the company.
Last week, Ford Motor <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46213625/ford-sales-surge-14-2-in-q2-beating-market-estimates-but-ev-sales-decline-31" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported</a> its second-quarter U.S. sales rose 14.2% to 612,095 vehicles, led by strong F-Series pickup demand. The company sold 222,459 F-Series trucks, up 11.5% year over year, and 156,509 electrified vehicles year to date, a 14.7% increase. EV sales declined 31.4% from a year ago to 16,438 units.

Ford Recalls Over 850,000 Vehicles Due To Stalling Engines

China Automotive Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CAAS#NASDAQ">CAAS</a>) shares are trading higher on Wednesday following the company&#8217;s announcement that it has begun mass production of its second-generation electro-hydraulic power steering <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/07/n46314166/china-automotive-systems-begins-mass-production-of-first-ircb-compatible-l2-assisted-driving-syste" rel="noreferrer noopener">system for heavy-duty vehicles</a>.
Developed by its subsidiary Shashi Jiulong, the intelligent system, known as iRCB, is the first in China to support L2+ assisted driving capabilities for commercial applications.
The company said the iRCB system combines hydraulic force with electronic control for precision steering and significant energy efficiency.

Headquartered in Hubei Province, China Automotive Systems supplies steering components through 16 joint ventures and subsidiaries, servicing major clients like BYD Co., Ltd. (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BYDDY#OTC">BYDDY</a>), Stellantis N.V. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>), and Ford Motor Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>).
The company has a production capacity exceeding 8 million units annually, covering steering gears, columns, and hoses for a variety of vehicle types.
Qizhou Wu, CEO of China Automotive Systems, noted the innovation behind the product, stating, &#8220;We continue to pioneer proprietary steering technologies that deliver cutting-edge solutions for our customers.&#8221;
Wu added that the new iRCB system is expected to contribute significantly to sales growth in 2025, backed by its performance and cost-efficiency.
China Automotive Systems completed the full lifecycle, from design to validation and production, of the iRCB system within just eight months. The company attributed this rapid development to its close collaboration with customers and focus on innovation.
According to internal estimates, the system can save up to 36,000 Chinese yuan (approximately $5,018.09) per vehicle per year, representing substantial operational cost reductions for fleet operators.
The new steering system represents a strategic move for China Automotive Systems as China continues to lead in autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle technologies.
The iRCB&#8217;s integration of L2+ driver assistance functionality positions the firm to capture the growing demand for smart mobility solutions in both domestic and international markets.
Price Action: CAAS shares are trading higher by 4.17% to $4.250 at last check Wednesday.

Why China Automotive Systems Stock Is Gaining On Wednesday

Reuters Cites Ford Saying It Believes Michigan EV Battery Plant Will Qualify For Production Tax Credits After Tax And Budget Bill Signed

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into the recall of close to 1.2 million RAM pickup trucks after the agency reviewed multiple incidents, which caused 7 injuries and 12 incidents involving fire or crash, questioning whether Stellantis NV (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>) failed to address the issue.
What Happened: The issue stems from the trucks disengaging from the Park setting on the transmission and rolling away unexpectedly despite there being no key in the ignition or the foot being taken off the brake pedal, the agency said in a report on Monday.
The issue affects RAM pickup trucks manufactured between 2013-2018, including the RAM 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 Pickup trucks. The report suggests that 1,187,232 trucks could be affected by the issue.

Ford Motor Co. NHTSA Launches Probe Into Stellantis-Owned RAM Pickup Truck Recall After Reports Of Injuries

As President Donald Trump's Big Beautiful Bill is officially signed into law, the bill scraps the $7,500 Federal EV credit on all purchases of new electric vehicles in the U.S.
What Happened: As the incentives are axed, EVs across the board are set to become dearer after September 30, 2025, when the incentives end. On Saturday, Business Insider compiled <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/all-the-evs-set-to-lose-the-federal-tax-credit-2025-7">a</a> list of vehicles set for a price hike from automakers like General Motors Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>), Stellantis (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>), Ford Motor Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>).
As for the list of vehicles from GM, it includes EVs from GM like the Chevrolet Blazer, Equinox and Silverado, as well as luxury-focused EVs like the Cadillac Lyriq, Optiq and Vistiq.
Detroit-based automaker Ford's F-150 Lightning pickup truck will get costlier. 
Elon Musk's Tesla vehicles, like Model Y, Model X, the Cybertruck and the Model 3, are also going to cost more.
Why It Matters: The news comes as the new laws axe the federal EV credit, but also scrap the proposed $250 fee annual fee on all EVs. The law is another push in Trump's anti-EV stance.
The bill has caused a considerable stir, with Musk locking horns with Trump over the bill once again and vowing to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/07/46267705/elon-musk-says-america-first-filing-false-and-has-been-reported-to-the-election-commission">found a new political party</a> called the America Party.
However, Musk's decision has been met with criticism both from Trump, who called the idea <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/07/46266957/trump-calls-america-party-a-train-wreck-blasts-elon-musk-for-going-completely-off-the-rails-president-says-system-not-designed-for-a-third-player">a "train wreck"</a> as well as experts, who suggest the move could be <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46268694/elon-musks-america-party-plans-conflict-with-his-full-time-responsibilities-as-tesla-ceo-says-former-doge-advisor">detrimental to Tesla</a>.
Interestingly, Tesla stock <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46267743/tesla-shares-fall-over-5-in-overnight-trading-as-elon-musk-jumps-back-into-politics">has fallen over 5%</a> in overnight trading following Musk's announcements regarding the party and his increasing involvement in politics.

Optimism got an extra boost after President Donald Trump announced a surprise trade deal with Vietnam. The agreement includes a 20% tariff on all Vietnamese imports and a 40% tariff on transshipped goods. In return, U.S. companies will get full access to Vietnam's domestic market, a key win for American exporters. 
Markets responded positively, with investors viewing it as a signal that Trump is favoring targeted trade enforcement over sweeping tariffs.

The U.S. Senate passed the bill on July 1, 2025, in a narrow 51–50 vote, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.
The House of Representatives followed on July 3, approving the final version of the bill in a 218–214 vote.
The White House announced that President Donald Trump will sign the bill into law on July 4, 2025, at 4 p.m. ET—a symbolic moment timed with Independence Day.
Labor market data surpassed expectations: Nonfarm payrolls rose by 147,000 in June, exceeding the projection of 110,000. The unemployment rate dropped to 4.1%, defying forecasts for a rise to 4.3% and hitting its lowest level since January. A big surprise came from government hiring, which added 73,000 jobs — the largest<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/07/46244105/june-jobs-report-nonfarm-payroll-adp-data"> jump since March 2023.</a>
On the industrial side, new orders for U.S. manufactured goods jumped 8.2% in May to $642 billion. This was the largest monthly surge since 2014 and the third-largest on record, as firms moved quickly to capitalize on the temporary suspension of "Liberation Day" tariffs.
This economic resilience complicates the Federal Reserve's outlook for near-term rate cuts. Chair Jerome Powell said the door remains open for a potential rate cut at the July 30 meeting, though he emphasized the importance of incoming data. Yet, after the robust jobs report, market-based odds for a cut fell sharply to just 7%.

Michigan-based automakers were among the week's top gainers. Ford Motor Co. Forget Robotaxis - Ford Just Drove Straight Into Tesla's Valuation Problem

Multinational bank BNP Paribas has said that Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) rivals Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) and Lucid Group Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LCID#NASDAQ">LCID</a>) could benefit from U.S. President Donald Trump's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46257394/trumps-big-bautiful-bill-passes-ev-tax-breaks-to-end-on-september-30-what-it-means-for-electric-vehicles">Big Beautiful Bill</a>.

The analysts also shared that third-quarter deliveries could rise as consumers would want to avail benefits of the $7,500 tax credit before it ends on September 30.
Why It Matters: The news comes as Rivian shared its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/07/46224223/rivians-production-dips-for-next-gen-models-volkswagen-infusion-boosts-outlook">Q2 delivery figures</a>, which outlined the EV maker recording over 10,661 units in the quarter and producing over 5,979 units from April to June.
Lucid shares, meanwhile, surged as the company shared <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/07/46248543/lucid-stock-is-climbing-higher-thursday-whats-going-on">its Q2 statistics</a>. The company's production increased from 2,212 units in the first quarter to 3,863 units in Q2. Deliveries saw a slight increase to 3,309 units.

Trump's Tax Bill Could Be A Boost For Tesla-Rivals Rivian, Lucid Amid EV Slowdown, Says BNP Paribas

President Donald Trump's controversial One Big, Beautiful Bill has passed the House of Representatives with a 218-214 vote, with Trump expected to sign the bill into law on July 4. Here's what it means for EVs in the U.S.
What Happened: "It is obvious that the future of transportation is electric; this bill forfeits America's role in that future to China," The Electrification Coalition, a pro-EV group, said on Thursday, according to Reuters.
The tax bill eliminates the federal EV credit, worth $7,500, on all purchases of new electric vehicles, as well as a $4,000 credit on used EVs, which could be a blow to the growing EV sector in the country.
The bill also eliminates the civil fines imposed on corporations for not meeting the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) norms and repeals the proposed $250 annual fee on EV owners.
Elsewhere, the bill also eliminates the proposal that the U.S. Postal Service would need to overhaul its delivery fleet and sell off all the Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/06/46048352/gop-cant-kill-usps-ev-fleet-under-tax-bill-says-senate-parliamentarian">transit EV vans</a> it currently uses.
Why It Matters: The tax bill has been a point of contention between Trump and his allies, most significantly, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) CEO Elon Musk. Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' Passes—EV Tax Breaks To End On September 30: What It Means For Electric Vehicles

A pickup truck carefully designed so that the likes of Blade Runner and James Bond <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/12/36104426/elon-musk-wanted-to-make-a-vehicle-for-the-future-one-that-blade-runner-would-drive">would be proud</a> to drive it could be facing a demand decline that would force changes from Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>).
What Happened: Tesla CEO Elon Musk had grand ambitions for the Cybertruck<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/23/11/36032944/cybertruck-delivery-event-elon-musk-highlights-teslas-best-product-says-finally-the"> with planned production capacity </a>of 250,000 vehicles annually. Millions of people registered for the unique electric pickup truck.
In 2024, an estimated 38,965 Cybertrucks were sold in the U.S.,<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/01/42986863/us-electric-vehicle-sales-hit-record-1-3-million-units-in-2024-despite-tesla-declines-top-10-bestsel"> ranking fifth </a>among all electric vehicles in the country for the year.
In the first 14 months of availability, around 46,000 Cybertrucks were sold based <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/03/44414187/elon-musks-tesla-recalls-over-46000-cybertrucks-due-to-safety-concerns">on recall data.</a>
New data from Tesla suggests the Cybertruck demand could be stalling even more and the company could be selling less than 90% of its original annual goal.
Tesla recently reported its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/07/46221375/tesla-stock-jumps-on-strong-q2-deliveries">second-quarter delivery figures</a>. The company delivered 384,122 total vehicles in the second quarter. Of this total, the majority fit into the Model 3 and Model Y category. The company's other category, which includes the Model S, Model X, Cybertruck and Tesla Semi had 10,394 deliveries in the second quarter.
Electrek <a href="https://electrek.co/2025/07/02/tesla-confirms-cybertruck-sales-are-down-to-just-5000-units/">estimates </a>that this means around 5,000 Cybertrucks were delivered with international data pointing to around 5,000 Model S and Model X vehicles sold in the quarter.
Tesla had 12,881 deliveries of the Other category in the first quarter, which would likely mean around 5,000 Cybertrucks delivered in that quarter.
Put that together and year-to-date Cybertruck deliveries stand at around 10,000, or 20,000 on an annualized basis. This is 8% of the 250,000 annual target the company was originally aiming for with Musk originally saying 2025 could be the first year of hitting that six-figure milestone.
Reports of weak demand for the Cybertruck, increased inventory of the vehicle on hand and price cuts have been trending topics when looking at the newer Tesla vehicle. The latest sales figures appear to back reports that Cybertruck demand is not where it should have been by now.

Why It's Important: As reported by Electrek, Tesla reported seven straight quarters of 15,000 or more deliveries for its Other vehicles category prior to this year's first quarter. This includes three straight quarters, the second, third and fourth of 2024, with over 20,000 deliveries for the Other vehicles category.
With less than 11,000 Other vehicles delivered in the second quarter, the total is now lower than the first quarter of 2023, which was before the Cybertruck was even available.
An electric pickup truck from Tesla was expected to disrupt the market with pickup trucks one of the top-selling vehicle classes every year in America. Instead, the unique design and high price of the Cybertruck may have pickup truck fans keeping their traditional gas-powered vehicle.
Other automakers have also released electric pickup trucks and could be dipping into Tesla's market share.
Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) has the F-150 Lightning, which had 5,842 deliveries in the second quarter. General Motors Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) had 3,056 Silverado EV, 1,524GMC Sierra EV and 4,508 Hummer EV deliveries in the second quarter, according to the report. The Hummer EV total includes both pickup trucks and SUVs.
Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) delivered 10,661 vehicles in the second quarter, but doesn't break out its split between trucks and SUVs.
These companies are all expected to keep the pressure up on Tesla. There is also the upcoming convertible electric pickup truck that can turn into an SUV from Jeff Bezos-backed Slate Auto. Over 100,000 vehicles <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/05/45381497/jeff-bezos-backed-slate-hit-100k-ev-reservations-in-2-weeks-how-it-compares-to-cybertruck-launch">have been reserved </a>from Slate Auto.
With a current renewed focus on autonomous vehicles and robotaxis, Tesla may have to decide what it wants to do with the Cybertruck and if it will scale back some of the production capacity due to weakened demand.
 TSLA Price Action: Tesla stock trades at $315.36 on Thursday versus a 52-week trading range of $182 to $488.54. Tesla stock is down 16.7% year-to-date in 2025.

Ford Sales Surge 14.2% In Q2, Beating Market Estimates But EV Sales Decline 31%

Shares of Ford Motor Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and General Motors (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) are trading higher Tuesday after the companies reported strong <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/07/46187171/ford-ceo-jim-farley-praises-chinese-evs-amid-affordable-ev-platform-plans-its-the-most-humbling-thing">second-quarter sales</a>.
What To Know: Ford reported a 14.2% increase in second-quarter vehicle sales, significantly outpacing industry estimates and expanding its U.S. market share.
Ford highlighted broad-based strength across its truck, hybrid and SUV categories. The company's F-Series posted its best second quarter since 2019 with over 222,000 units sold, while electrified vehicle sales hit a record 82,886 units in the quarter. Ford also noted a 26% jump in Maverick sales and a 44.7% increase in its Bronco lineup. In total, Ford's second-quarter sales reached 612,095 units, up 14.2% year-over-year. 
"We blew the doors off the overall industry with our second-quarter sales," said Andrew Frick, president, Ford Blue and Model e, and interim head of Ford Pro.
GM, meanwhile, posted a 7% increase in U.S. sales for the second quarter and a 12% rise for the first half of 2025. Chevrolet and Buick drove much of the growth, with record crossover sales and continued dominance in full-size pickups and SUVs. GM also saw its EV sales double in the second quarter, making Chevrolet the best-selling EV brand and Cadillac the top luxury EV brand by market share during the quarter.
"The investments we have made in our crossovers, SUVs, and pickups – both gas and electric – along with great execution by our employees, suppliers and dealers, have made GM the engine of growth for the U.S. industry this year," said Duncan Aldred, GM senior VP and president of North America.
As both companies lean into a mix of combustion, hybrid and electric offerings, the results underscore the continued strength of U.S. consumer demand for pickups and SUVs. Investors responded positively to the strong execution and upward market share trends, sending both stocks higher on the day.
