The U.S. dollar index edged higher, mirroring a further surge in Treasury yields. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose 4 basis points to 4.57%, approaching its highest closing level since late May.
In commodities, gold slipped 0.4%, set to break a two-session winning streak, while oil prices declined 1%.
In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) fell 1.7% to around $93,000, eyeing its fifth loss in the past six sessions.
Shares of MicroStrategy Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) tumbled over 4% in their first trading session after the company's inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 index.

U.S. stocks settled higher on Friday, with the Dow Jones index surging almost 500 points during the session.
Even as the major indices recorded gains on Friday, all three averages fell last week. The Dow dipped around 2.3% to record its third losing week in a row. The S&amp;P 500 declined about 2%, while the Nasdaq Composite fell around 1.8% last week.
On the economic data front, the U.S. personal consumption expenditures price index rose 0.1% month-over-month in November down from 0.2% in each of the prior two months and compared to market estimates of 0.2%. The University of Michigan consumer sentiment rose to 74 in December, recording the highest level since April, versus a reading of 71.8 in November.
Carnival Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCL#NYSE">CCL</a>) reported better-than-expected earnings for its fourth quarter on Friday.
All sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a positive note, with utilities, real estate, and information technology stocks recording the biggest gains on Friday.
The Dow Jones closed higher by around 498 points to 42,840.26 on Friday. The S&amp;P 500 rose 1.09% to 5,930.85, while the Nasdaq Composite surged 1.03% to close at 19,572.60 during Friday's session.

Dow Jumps Around 500 Points But Records 3rd Straight Weekly Loss: Greed Index Moves To 'Fear' Zone

Risk sentiment returned to Wall Street on Friday, revitalized by softer-than-expected November inflation data leading to a strong market rebound following the selloff triggered by the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42615908/feds-preferred-inflation-gauge-falls-more-than-expected-markets-breathe-sigh-of-relief">Federal Reserve&#8217;s recent meeting.</a>
The Personal Consumption Expenditure price index rose 2.4% year-over-year in November, falling short of the 2.5% increase forecasted. The core PCE, a key gauge closely watched by the Fed, also missed expectations, rising 2.8% compared to the anticipated 2.9%.
By midday Friday, all major indices were in rally mode, with broad-based gains across sectors. In the S&amp;P 500, 480 companies traded higher, and every sector advanced as investors welcomed the reprieve in inflationary pressures.
The real estate sector led the charge, rebounding sharply after being hit hardest in the aftermath of the Fed meeting. Small-cap stocks in the Russell 2000 also posted robust gains, powered by a strong recovery in regional banks.
The travel industry soared, driven by upbeat earnings and optimistic guidance from Carnival Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCL#NYSE">CCL</a>), which fueled enthusiasm across the sector. The cruise line rose by 6%, eyeing the highest close since October 2021. 
In the bond market, yields dropped by approximately 5 basis points across the curve, boosting Treasury prices. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) gained nearly 1%, recovering some ground after a 3% slide over the previous two sessions. The dollar softened, declining 0.6%, while gold gained over 1%. 
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) attracted dip buyers after plunging to $92,118. Although the cryptocurrency pared its daily losses, it remains on track for its worst weekly performance in four months.

Wall Street Rallies On Soft Inflation Data, Bonds Rebound, Travel Stocks Surge: What's Driving Markets Friday?

Carnival Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCL#NYSE">CCL</a>) stock surged on Friday after the company reported <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/12/n42617230/carnival-corporation-plc-outperforms-fourth-quarter-guidance-reports-record-full-year-operating-re" rel="noreferrer noopener">better-than-expected fourth-quarter 2024 results</a>.
The company reported fourth-quarter adjusted EPS of $0.14, compared to a $0.07 loss a year ago, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">beating the consensus estimate of $0.08.</a>
Carnival reported quarterly sales growth of 10% year-over-year to $5.938 billion, marginally beating the street view of $5.932 billion.
The company registered an operating income of $561 million, up 46.1% YoY. Adjusted EBITDA in the quarter stood at $1.22 billion, up 28.9% YoY, and margin expanded to 20.6%.
Carnival reported record booking volumes for 2025 and 2026 despite lower inventory and seasonal slowdowns. With nearly two-thirds of 2025 already booked, the company expects another year of strong yield improvement. The company ended the quarter with $4.155 billion of liquidity.
&#8220;We are delivering long-term value for our shareholders through improved operational execution across our brands, essentially on a same ship basis. We ended 2024 with adjusted ROIC of 11 percent, comfortably above our cost of capital. In fact, with one year down, we&#8217;re already over 80 percent of the way toward achieving our 2026 SEA Change EBITDA and adjusted ROIC targets,&#8221; commented Carnival Corporation &amp; plc&#8217;s Chief Executive Officer Josh Weinstein.
Q1 2025 Outlook: Carnival expects net yields to be up approximately 4.6% YoY and Adjusted cruise costs, excluding fuel per ALBD, to rise 3.4% YoY, both in constant currency.
The company sees Adjusted EPS of $0.00 for the quarter <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance">versus $0.01 loss consensus.</a>
2025 Outlook: Carnival projects net yields (in constant currency) up approximately 4.2% YoY.
CCL sees adjusted EPS of ~$1.70 versus consensus of $1.74 for the fiscal. Fuel consumption of 2.9 million metric tons at an average cost of $617 per ton, resulting in a total fuel expense of $1.89 billion
The company projects cruise costs per ALBD (excluding fuel) to rise 3.7% due to dry-docks, advertising, and Celebration Key, with adjusted net income of $2.3 billion (+20%), adjusted EBITDA of $6.6 billion, and an adjusted ROIC of 11.7%.

The probability of having no change in the interest rates for the upcoming Jan. 31, 2025 decision was at 89.3%, according <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">to</a> CME Group&#8217;s FedWatch tool.
Investors will receive another critical economic data point on Friday with the release of the November personal consumption expenditures (PCE) inflation index. This release follows other inflation indicators that suggest price increases accelerated in November.

Cues From The Last Session
The S&amp;P 500 ended the day essentially unchanged after giving up earlier gains. The Nasdaq 100 fell 0.5%, fluctuating between small gains and losses throughout the session.
However, Dow Jones ended marginally higher, breaking its 10-day losing streak.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with materials, real estate, and energy stocks recording the biggest losses on Thursday. However, utilities and financials stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.
Thursday&#8217;s economic data showed a revision upward in one of the Fed&#8217;s preferred inflation measures to 2.2%.
As Fed Chair Jerome Powell has indicated that further easing would require additional progress on inflation, market participants will now focus on the final significant economic data point of the year: November&#8217;s personal consumption expenditures, due out on Friday.

Insights From Analysts
The &#8220;Triple Witching&#8221; hour is a quarterly event that occurs during the final hour of trade on the third Friday of March, June, September, and December. During this period, contracts for stock index futures, stock index options, and stock options all expire at the same time.
According to the Chairman and Founder of Navellier &amp; Associates, Louis Navellier, &#8220;The timing of buying the dip is complicated by options expiration tomorrow and Christmas next week, but a recovery by the end of the year would not surprise anyone.&#8221;
He also said, &#8220;In my opinion, the stock and bond market reactions to the FOMC Statement, dot plot, and Fed Chairman Powell's press conference were grossly overdone and eviscerated all the stock market gains since the Presidential election.&#8221;
According to him, both France and Germany are in the midst of a political crisis and are "headless" until new leadership emerges. &#8220;As a result, I am expecting up to four Fed rate cuts in 2025 as collapsing interest rates in the eurozone also cause U.S. Treasury yields to decline,&#8221; he said.

"The fewer cuts [the Fed does] in 2025, it actually is better for this bull market because it provides a lot of future ammunition to protect the economy," he said.
"I know yesterday's (Wednesday&#8217;s) pullback was really painful, but to us, the fundamentals supporting stocks are intact.&#8221;
Carson Research&#8217;s vice president and global macro strategist, Sonu Varghese called 2024 a &#8220;strong&#8221; year for U.S. stocks, even with the recent pullback.
&#8220;The fallout from the Fed meeting wiped out post-election gains across large swaths of the market, including value stocks and mid-cap and small-cap stocks, though looking back over the entire year, almost every major category is up double-digits so far, across style (value – core – growth) and capitalization (large – mid &#8211; small). For comparison the MSCI All-Cap World ex US Net Index is up just 7.2% year to date. That should tell you how strong of a year 2024 has been for US stocks, even with the recent pullback,&#8221; Varghese said in a note.

<li>Humacyte Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HUMA#NASDAQ">HUMA</a>) was up 52.31% in premarket after it received FDA approval for SYMVESS, a bioengineered human tissue designed as a universally implantable vascular conduit for arterial injury treatment.</li>
<li>Nike Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NKE#NYSE">NKE</a>) was down 3.37% after issuing <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42610441/nikes-new-ceo-says-we-lost-our-obsession-with-sport-as-he-rebukes-old-strategies-on-performance-marketing-isolation-of-wholesalers-aims-to-create-demand">lower revenue guidance</a> and additional gross margin pressure given the higher demand creation expenses.</li>
<li>FedEx Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDX#NYSE">FDX</a>) was 7.33% higher after it posted stronger-than-expected results for its second quarter. The company also announced that it has decided to pursue a full separation of FedEx Freight through the capital markets, creating a new publicly traded company.</li>
<li>BlackBerry Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BB#NYSE">BB</a>) was down 5.03% as it expects fourth-quarter revenue in the range of $126 million to $135 million versus the estimates of $161.49 million.</li>
<li>Winnebago Industries Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WGO#NYSE">WGO</a>) was up 2.04% as analysts expect it to post quarterly earnings at 20 cents per share on revenue of $672.23 million before the opening bell.</li>
<li>Carnival Corporation. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCL#NYSE">CCL</a>) fell 1.11% as it is expected to report quarterly earnings at 8 cents per share on revenue of $5.93 billion before the opening bell.</li>

Commodities, Bonds And Global Equity Markets:
Crude oil futures were lower in the early New York session by 2.75% to hover around $68.66 per barrel.
The gold spot index was up by 0.42% to $2,619.24 per ounce. The Dollar Index was down 0.16% to 108.239 level.
Asian markets declined on Friday, as Hong Kong&#8217;s Hang Seng, South Korea&#8217;s Kospi, Japan&#8217;s Nikkei 225, India&#8217;s S&amp;P BSE Sensex, China&#8217;s CSI 300 and Australia&#8217;s ASX 200 index fell. Most European markets were also in the red in early trading.

Carnival Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCL#NYSE">CCL</a>) will release its fourth-quarter financial results, before the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/CCL/earnings">opening bell, on Friday, Dec. 20</a>.
Analysts expect the Miami, Florida-based company to report quarterly earnings at 7 cents per share, versus a year-ago loss of 7 cents per share. Carnival projects quarterly revenue of $5.93 billion, compared to $5.4 billion a year earlier, according to data from <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>.
On Sept. 30, Carnival posted third-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.27 per share, beating analysts&#8217; estimates of $1.16 per share. The company posted quarterly sales of $7.90 billion versus expectations of $7.83 billion.
Carnival shares gained 1.5% to close at $25.18 on Thursday.

Carnival Gears Up For Q4 Print; Here Are The Recent Forecast Changes From Wall Street's Most Accurate Analysts

The CNN Money Fear and Greed index showed a decline in the overall market sentiment, with the index in the &#8220;Extreme Fear&#8221; zone on Thursday.
U.S. stocks settled mixed on Thursday, with the Dow Jones index ending its longest losing streak since 1974 during the session.
All the major indices initially rebounded at the start of the session, with the 30-stock index gaining more than 460 points, but they pared gains as the session went on.
Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>) shares dipped over 16% on Thursday after the company posted better-than-expected earnings for its first quarter, while sales missed expectations.
On the economic data front, the U.S. economy grew by an annualized rate of 3.1% in the third quarter compared to 2.8% in the second estimate and up from 3% in the previous quarter.
U.S. existing home sales rose by 4.8% from the previous month to an annualized rate of 4.15 million in November. U.S. initial jobless claims declined by 22,000 to 220,000 in the first week of December, compared to market estimates of 230,000.
Most sectors on the S&amp;P 500 closed on a negative note, with materials, real estate, and energy stocks recording the biggest losses on Thursday. However, utilities and financials stocks bucked the overall market trend, closing the session higher.
The Dow Jones closed higher by around 15 points to 42,342.24 on Thursday. The S&amp;P 500 fell 0.09% to 5,867.08, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.10% to close at 19,372.77 during Thursday's session.
