On Friday, Exelixis, Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EXEL#NASDAQ">EXEL</a>) authorized repurchasing up to an additional $500 million of the company&#8217;s common stock before <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b43868849/exelixis-announces-a-newly-authorized-500-million-stock-repurchase-program" rel="noreferrer noopener">December 31, 2025</a>.
Exelixis plans to complete the $500 million stock repurchase program, announced in August 2024, in the second quarter of 2025 and commence stock repurchases under the newly authorized stock repurchase program thereafter.
As of the end of fiscal year 2024, Exelixis has returned over $1.2 billion to shareholders through these programs.
Earlier this month, Exelixis reported fourth-quarter adjusted EPS of 55 cents, beating the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/earnings" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus of 43 cents</a>. The cancer-focused company reported sales of $566.75 million, beating the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b43640071/exelixis-announces-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2024-financial-results-and-provides-corporate-up" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus of $563.42 million</a>.
Exelixis reaffirmed its 2025 sales guidance of $2.15 billion-$2.25 billion versus consensus of $2.24 billion.

Recently, Exelixis announced the final results from the phase 3 CheckMate -9ER pivotal trial evaluating Cabometyx&nbsp;(cabozantinib) in combination with Bristol-Myers Squibb &amp; Co&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BMY#NYSE">BMY</a>) Opdivo&nbsp;(nivolumab) versus sunitinib for patients with previously untreated advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
After more than five years of follow-up, the findings demonstrated that the efficacy benefits of Cabometyx&nbsp;in combination with Opdivo were sustained long-term.
At a median follow-up of 67.6 months, Cabometyx, in combination with Opdivo, improved progression-free survival and overall survival compared with Pfizer Inc&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PFE#NYSE">PFE</a>) Sutent (sunitinib) in the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b43756537/exelixis-announces-final-five-year-follow-up-results-from-checkmate-9er-trial-evaluating-cabometyx" rel="noreferrer noopener">intent-to-treat population</a>.
A subgroup analysis by the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium (IMDC) risk showed PFS and objective response rates favored Cabometyx in combination with Opdivo versus sunitinib regardless of the IMDC risk group.
In January, Exelixis announced that its supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for cabozantinib for adults with previously treated advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine and extra-pancreatic tumors will no longer be discussed at the FDA&#8217;s Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee meeting. The sNDA remains under consideration by the FDA and has a Prescription Drug User Fee Act action <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b42896345/exelixis-provides-update-on-oncologic-drugs-advisory-committee-meeting-for-cabozantinib-cabometyx-" rel="noreferrer noopener">date of April 3</a>.
Price Action: EXEL stock is up 3.42% at $36.29 at the last check on Friday.

The results showed a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in overall survival, a key secondary endpoint, compared to neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone.
The results build on the previously reported primary endpoints of event-free survival (EFS) and pathological complete response (pCR), which also met statistical significance.
The safety profile of&nbsp;Opdivo&nbsp;in combination with chemotherapy was consistent with previously reported studies, with no new safety signals observed.
&#8220;The final analysis of overall survival in the CheckMate -816 study underscores the potential of&nbsp;Opdivo&nbsp;in combination with chemotherapy to provide a meaningful survival benefit for patients with resectable NSCLC,&#8221; said Dana Walker, vice president, global program lead, late development, oncology, Bristol Myers Squibb. &#8220;This is the first and only Phase 3 study of a neoadjuvant-only immuno-oncology therapy to show a statistically significant benefit in patients with resectable NSCLC.&#8221;
In October, the FDA approved&nbsp;Bristol Myers&#8217; Opdivo for resectable NSCLC and no known epidermal growth factor&nbsp;receptor mutations or anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements, for neoadjuvant treatment, in combination with platinum-doublet chemotherapy,&nbsp;followed by single-agent&nbsp;Opdivo&nbsp;as adjuvant&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/10/41184042/bristol-myers-10b-cancer-drug-opdivo-scores-expanded-use-fda-approval-for-lung-cancer-in-pre-and-" rel="noreferrer noopener">treatment after surgery</a>.
Last week, Bristol Myers released topline data from its Phase 2 TRANSCEND FL trial of&nbsp;Breyanzi&nbsp;(lisocabtagene maraleucel) for relapsed or refractory indolent B-cell&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43597173/whats-going-on-with-bristol-myers-squibb-stock-on-monday" rel="noreferrer noopener">non-Hodgkin lymphoma</a>.
The study met its primary endpoint in the marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) cohort and Breyanzi&nbsp;demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful overall response rate (ORR) in these patients. It also met the key secondary endpoint of complete response rate (CRR).
Price Action: BMY stock closed higher by 1.01% to $54.98 on Wednesday.

S&P 500 Gains For 3rd Session: Investor Sentiment Improves, But Greed Index Remains In 'Fear' Zone

It's a mixed session on Wall Street, with major indices struggling for direction as investors hold their breath ahead of a key jobs report <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">set for Friday morning.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 edged up 0.3%, while the Dow Jones slipped 0.1% and small caps held steady.
Among the leading sectors, financial stocks outperformed after the Fed released the framework for 2025 bank stress test. The big six banks — JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>), Bank of America Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAC#NYSE">BAC</a>), Wells Fargo &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WFC#NYSE">WFC</a>), Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GS#NYSE">GS</a>), Morgan Stanley (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MS#NYSE">MS</a>), and Citigroup (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/C#NYSE">C</a>) — all climbed more than 1%, with Citigroup surging 2.9%.
Eli Lilly Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) jumped 3.2% after topping earnings estimates, while Tapestry Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TPR#NYSE">TPR</a>) surged 12% and Philip Morris International Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PM#NYSE">PM</a>) skyrocketed nearly 10% on strong revenue figures. In contrast, Qualcomm (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QCOM#NASDAQ">QCOM</a>) slid 4.3% on concerns over slowing smartphone demand.
Shares of Palantir Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NYSE">PLTR</a>) surged 6.5%, extending its weekly gains to 30.8%, the stock's best weekly rally since early November.
Oil prices had a volatile session. Crude initially dipped as speculation mounted over a potential Trump-Putin meeting as early as this month or next, raising hopes for possible peace talks in Ukraine. Prices rebounded after the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on Iran's oil network.
Gold softened, dropping 0.6% from record highs and snapping a five-session winning streak.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) remained stable, hovering just below $97,000.

Sales increased 8% year-over-year, or 9% when adjusted for foreign exchange impacts, primarily driven by the Growth Portfolio and higher demand for Eliquis, partially offset by the impact of generics on Sprycel, Revlimid, Abraxane&nbsp;and&nbsp;Pomalyst.

Bristol Myers Squibb expanded its existing strategic productivity initiative to include approximately $2 billion in additional annualized cost savings by the end of 2027.
