U.S. stock futures were lower on Thursday after mostly closing higher on Wednesday. Futures of major benchmark indices were trading lower in premarket.
Wednesday saw a positive momentum in tech stocks led by Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) following the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/25/05/45405067/saudi-arabia-bets-big-on-ai-teams-up-with-aws-and-nvidia">deals with Saudi Arabia</a>, strong earnings from Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CSCO#NASDAQ">CSCO</a>) and CoreWeave Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRWV#NASDAQ">CRWV</a>). 
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who last year sparked &#8220;Jensanity&#8221; among attendees, will headline this year&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/media/25/05/45426637/nvidia-ceo-jensen-huang-expected-to-unveil-new-ai-alliances-at-computex-2025-as-geopolitical-pressures-persist-over-tech-sector">annual Computex trade show</a>, which will run from May 20–23 in Taipei, reported Reuters. His keynote is expected to spotlight Nvidia&#8217;s deepening partnerships with Taiwanese firms like Foxconn and Quanta. 
Investors assessed the economic impacts of a tariff pause with China and await the Producer Price Index data slated to be released today.
The 10-year Treasury bond yielded 4.50% and the two-year bond was at 4.03%. The CME Group's FedWatch <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">tool&#8217;</a>s projections show markets pricing a 91.7% likelihood of the Federal Reserve keeping the current interest rates unchanged in its June meeting.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Invesco QQQ Trust ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which track the S&amp;P 500 index and Nasdaq 100 index, respectively, fell in premarket on Thursday. The SPY was down 0.68% to $583.57, while the QQQ declined 0.87% to $514.18, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a> data.
Cues From Last Session:
Driven by renewed risk appetite after U.S.-China trade negotiation progress, information technology and communication services sectors led gains on Wednesday, bucking the broader negative trend where health care, materials, and real estate stocks saw the biggest losses.
Overall, U.S. stocks settled mixed, with the S&amp;P 500 extending its gains for a third session, up over 4% week-to-date, while the Dow added around 2% and the Nasdaq surged over 6% for the week.
Notably, Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) shares climbed significantly. Separately, U.S. mortgage applications saw a modest increase of 1.1%.
The Dow Jones index declined 89 points or 0.21% to 42,051.06, whereas the S&amp;P 500 index rose 0.10% to 5,892.58. Nasdaq Composite ended 0.72% higher at 19,146.81, and the small-cap gauge, Russell 2000, dropped 0.88% to 2,083.80.

Insights From Analysts:
According to Scott Wren, the senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo, despite having a bit of a surprise in the outcome in terms of the U.S.-China trade talks, &#8220;The bottom line is that many uncertainties remain.&#8221;
&#8220;The U.S. is in the early stages of trade negotiations. Given that, our guidance is to continue to lean toward higher-quality large- and mid-cap U.S. equities. In fixed income, we favor exposure to investment-grade corporates and essential-service municipal bonds in the three-to-seven-year maturity range,&#8221; he said.
He highlighted that the market bounce back hinged on a variety of factors, including better-than-expected earnings and, particularly, guidance during the first-quarter reporting season as well as expectations that some trade deals would be announced (i.e., last week's U.K. deal).
It also has helped that much of the reported data covering April has so far continued to show U.S. economic resilience, he explained.
Talking about the U.S.-China deal, he said, &#8220;Of course, as always, the devil is in the details, and a deal has not officially been inked. A lot can happen between now and then.&#8221;
Meanwhile, the analysts at BlackRock said that &#8220;We eye opportunities from mega forces,&#8221; adding that &#8220;We still see tariffs causing further contractions in quarterly activity but the cumulative impact may be more limited.&#8221;
&#8220;We still see supply disruptions upping inflation and hitting growth, but also a path to avoiding a U.S. contraction over 2025 as a whole. Mega forces, greater fiscal spending, and higher interest rates are driving select opportunities,&#8221; the note added.

<li>Boot Barn Holdings Inc. The company also announced a $200 million share repurchase program.</li>

Crude oil futures were trading lower in the early New York session by 3.99% to hover around $60.63 per barrel.
Gold Spot US Dollar fell 0.43% to hover around $3,164.60 per ounce. Its last record high stood at $3,500.33 per ounce. The U.S. Dollar Index spot was lower by 0.31% at the 100.7260 level.
Asian markets ended lower on Thursday except India's S&amp;P BSE Sensex and Australia's ASX 200 index. Japan's Nikkei 225, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, South Korea's Kospi, and China&#8217;s CSI 300 indices declined. European markets were mostly lower in early trade.

US Stocks Likely To Open Lower After S&P 500's Three-Day Winning Streak: '...Many Uncertainties Remain,' Says Expert

As markets cheer Qatar&#8217;s massive $200 billion jet deal with Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>), economist Peter Schiff has a warning that has little to do with planes, and a lot more to do with America&#8217;s structural vulnerabilities.
What Happened: On Wednesday, Schiff highlighted the potential financial fallout of Boeing&#8217;s mega deal with Qatar, which involves acquiring 160 jets for its state-owned carrier, Qatar Airways. 
While acknowledging that this was &#8220;great for Boeing,&#8221; which hit a one-year high following the news, Schiff cautions that the transaction could come with a hidden cost for the U.S. economy.

He says that to help finance this purchase, &#8220;Qatar will likely sell a lot of Treasuries and other U.S. assets,&#8221; further straining the U.S. bond market that is already under pressure.
Schiff says that this capital reallocation might contribute to &#8220;pushing up inflation and interest rates in the U.S.,&#8221; which comes at a time when the Federal Reserve is already grappling with persistent inflationary pressures amid a ballooning Federal trade deficit.

Why It Matters: The deal, which is one of the largest jet purchases ever made, comes at a time of growing concerns regarding <a href="https://benzinga.com/markets/25/03/44267663/ray-dalio-warns-us-debt-crisis-could-trigger-shocking-developments-calls-to-reduce-deficit-at-3-of-gdp">America&#8217;s debt sustainability</a>. 
Early this week, economist Stephanie Pomboy <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45369770/whos-going-to-buy-2-trillion-worth-of-paper-macro-expert-calls-wall-street-rally-a-headline-sugar-rush-as-treasury-yield-spike-signals-bigger-trouble">raised similar concerns</a>, asking, &#8220;Who&#8217;s going to buy $2 trillion worth of paper?&#8221; with major buyers such as China pulling back.
As U.S. 30-Year Treasury yields approached 5%, analyst Gordon Johnson warned of a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45399783/gordon-johnson-warns-of-potential-liberation-day-20-as-30-year-treasury-yields-approach-5-amid-dollar-weakness">potential &#8220;Liberation Day 2.0,&#8221;</a> as it risks jeopardizing $8 trillion in U.S. debt that is set to be refinanced in 2025. 
On Tuesday, Schiff too called out <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/bonds/25/05/45396490/peter-schiff-says-trade-truce-aside-the-world-is-losing-confidence-in-dollar-and-in-us-ability-to-put-fiscal-house-in-order">the rising yields</a> and the decline in the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) despite the trade truce with China early in the week, which he says is because &#8220;the world is losing confidence in the dollar,&#8221; and the country&#8217;s ability to get its fiscal house in order.
&#8220;The consequences of de-dollarization will be profound,&#8221; Schiff said, especially as the U.S. Treasury Department ramps up its borrowing, projecting $514 billion in net debt issues during this quarter, which is 317% over its own forecast of $123 billion, just two months ago.
Fund manager, Michael Kao, however, has a different take on this deal with Qatar, referring to it as &#8220;Petrodollar recycling,&#8221; while adding that the Petrodollar system &#8220;isn&#8217;t going away anytime soon,&#8221; in a post on X. Kao also included a list of multi-billion dollar transactions between U.S. companies and Middle-Eastern states to drive his point.

Price Action: Boeing shares were up 0.64% on Wednesday, trading at 204.72, and are up 0.67% after hours. The U.S. 10-Year and 30-Year Treasury yields continue to inch upward, at 4.536% and 4.968% at the time of writing this, respectively. 
The U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.23% on Wednesday, trading at 100.818, and is currently down 1.49% over the past four weeks, and 3.48% over the past 12 months.

U.S. tech stocks extended their weekly rally into Wednesday's session, lifted by renewed investor appetite for risk following a breakthrough in early-week U.S.-China trade negotiations. This reignited hopes for a more <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">stable global trade outlook. </a>
The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.5% by midday in New York, reaching levels last seen in late February. Heavyweight chipmakers led the rally, as Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) surged 4% and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) jumped 5%.
Traders welcomed mounting expectations of large-scale investments from Gulf nations into U.S. tech and semiconductor sectors, as President Donald Trump secured new economic agreements with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45417156/nvidia-amd-stocks-climb-as-trump-plans-to-ease-ai-chip-export-rules">Middle Eastern countries</a>, including Saudi Arabia and Syria.
While the Nasdaq marched higher, the S&amp;P 500 stalled and both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Russell 2000 slipped slightly, indicating a more selective rally focused on high-growth sectors.
Clean energy and solar stocks outperformed again, building on strong Tuesday gains. Investors cheered a less-severe-than-expected revision to clean energy tax credits in the latest Republican tax proposal.
The commodity space told a different story, with gold prices dropping nearly 2%, breaking below the $3,200 per ounce mark for the first time in over a month. 
The yellow metal is now tracking its worst weekly performance since November 2024, with two trading sessions still left this week.
Investors appear to be rotating out of safe-haven assets, as appetite for equities and riskier plays returns on global trade optimism. 
Rising Treasury yields also weighed on broader market sentiment. The yield on the 2-year Treasury note broke above 4%, hitting its highest level in more than two months. Meanwhile, the 30-year bond yield rose 5 basis points to 4.97%, drawing closer to the psychologically important 5% mark—a level often associated with tightening financial conditions and pressure on long-duration assets.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Businesses Stall, Stock Warnings Grow Louder</h2>
In his post, Cuban quoted the entrepreneur, who said, "$30M in EBITDA wiped out for us in 2 months, a company I spent a decade building decimated in a matter of months. Unbelievable people still don't understand tariffs at this point, and the head in the sand approach to what this is going to do to our economy is frightening. We are in cash preservation mode and have paused all shipments from China at this point."
Trump's trade measures aim to protect American manufacturing by making foreign imports more expensive. But some industries are already responding by freezing operations, cutting costs, and pausing international shipments.
According to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/trumps-tariffs-chinese-parts-cybercab-semi-disrupt-teslas-us-production-plans-2025-04-16/">Reuters</a> on April 15, Tesla (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>)&nbsp; halted imports of components from China critical to the assembly of its Cybercab and Semi models. Boeing (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) redirected a 737 MAX jetliner meant for a Chinese airliner back to the U.S., citing prohibitive cost implications triggered by the tariff hike, according to media reports.&nbsp;

Retailers are also feeling the strain. On April 19, Marc Bowker, owner of Alter Ego Comics in Lima, Ohio, told <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/main-street-trump-trade-war-tariffs-small-businesses-impact-2025-4">Business Insider</a> his supplier costs rose as much as 34%. The increase has forced him to raise prices on imported goods and tighten profit margins to stay afloat. "If you see prices go up at your local small business, it&#8217;s not because we want to,&#8221; he said . "It&#8217;s because we&#8217;re forced to."
Across the board, many small business owners are putting plans on hold according to data from the <a href="https://www.uschamber.com/small-business/small-business-weekly-forecast">U.S. Chamber of Commerce</a>. 12% of small business owners believe it&#8217;s a good time to expand, reflecting a five-point decline from January. Moreover, 19% are planning capital purchases in the next three months, down one point from January.

Cuban encouraged consumers to stock up on essential household goods like soap, toothpaste, and medications, warning that tariffs would eventually drive up shelf prices nationwide.
Meanwhile, industry-wide concern is growing. A survey conducted by <a href="https://www.fictiv.com/ebooks/2025-state-of-manufacturing-report">Fictiv</a> revealed that 77% of manufacturing and supply chain leaders expressed concerns about their ability to manage resources effectively amid trade wars and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/10/41313947/expert-finds-trumps-tax-proposal-drains-money-from-95-of-households-and-funnels-it-to-the-top-5-">tariffs</a>.
In addition, the <a href="https://www.uschina.org/news-releases/new-report-us-china-trade-war-2-0-poised-to-devastate-american-exporters/">U.S.-China Business Council</a> has estimated that some 862,467 American jobs—particularly in agriculture and trade-heavy sectors—could be at risk.

'Unbelievable People Still Don't Understand Tariffs' – Mark Cuban Highlights Entrepreneur's $30 Million Loss Under Trump's 145% Tariff

Cruise line stocks are historically among the strongest seasonal performers in the S&amp;P 500 heading into the second half of May, with Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RCL#NYSE">RCL</a>), Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NCLH#NYSE">NCLH</a>) and Carnival Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CCL#NYSE">CCL</a>) averaging double-digit returns over a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/seasonality">three-week window.</a>
Historical data from Seasonax platforms shows that from May 14 to early June, these three stocks have consistently outperformed over the past decade, with average gains north of 10%. 
Among all S&amp;P 500 constituents, they rank at the very top for late-spring seasonality. Seasonal strength is typically fueled by ramping summer demand, strong forward bookings, and an uptick in consumer travel spending ahead of peak vacation months.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">RCL Sees Strong Summer Bookings</h3>
In a note from late April, Goldman Sachs analyst Lizzie Dove pointed to a strong reversal in booking momentum despite broader macro uncertainty and uneven travel data across the sector.
April bookings at RCL exceeded the same month last year, while close-in bookings remained firm. 
The company also reported stronger-than-usual onboard spending and pre-cruise purchases. Forward bookings for 2026 were tracking in line with 2024 levels but at higher prices—a sign of pricing power in an inflation-sensitive market.
With approximately 86% of the 2025 cruise calendar already booked, Dove's team raised their estimates and lifted the stock's price target from $245 to $260. However, they retained a slightly more cautious tone in 2026, pending more clarity on consumer resilience.
Since hitting tariff-driven lows on April 9, shares of RCL have surged 50% through mid-May —more than twice the gain of the S&amp;P 500. CCL shares matched the performance during the same period. 
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">NCLH Flags Demand Softness Amid Macro Pressures</h3>
In contrast, Norwegian Cruise Line is facing a different set of conditions. 
In early May, Bank of America analyst Andrew Didora highlighted NCLH as the first in the group to show softness in its 12-month forward-booked position.
While this wasn't viewed as unexpected—given the macro backdrop, consumer sentiment, and fare discounts introduced under the Oceania brand—it raised questions about forward pricing discipline across the cruise industry. Didora added that weakening demand isn't isolated to NCLH, and other operators may be seeing similar dynamics. 
BofA cut its 2025 and 2026 EPS forecasts for NCLH by 3% and 2%, now expecting $2.07 and $2.53, respectively. It revised the price objective down from $23 to $20 while maintaining a Neutral rating on concerns around leverage and top-line pressures.
Shares of NCLH have rallied 36% since April lows, underperforming versus peers.
