Wall Street's rally stretched into a second session Tuesday, fueled by improving investor sentiment after an early-week breakthrough in U.S.-China trade talks, easing inflation data and fresh geopolitical headlines involving major investment pledges <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">from the Middle East.</a>
The Consumer Price Index showed signs of cooling in April, as both headline and core readings eased or met expectations, easing concerns that Trump's proposed trade tariffs would trigger a surge in inflation.
The S&amp;P 500 advanced 0.7%, adding to Monday's 3.3% surge, and reached its highest level since March 3.
Technology stocks outperformed again, with the Nasdaq 100 jumping 1.8%, driven by a standout 5.3% rally in NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>).
The chipmaker giant surged after reports that the United Arab Emirates may receive approval to purchase over a million of its advanced AI processors, while Saudi Arabia pledged up to $600 billion in future U.S. investments, with a focus on technology and infrastructure.
Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>)(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) Google, Oracle Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORCL#NYSE">ORCL</a>), Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRM#NYSE">CRM</a>), Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UBER#NYSE">UBER</a>) and DataVolt have committed to invest a combined $80 billion in technology initiatives across both the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, according to a White House press release.
The news came during President Donald Trump's diplomatic visit to the Middle East, where he also reiterated confidence in the Republican tax bill, saying, "We're in good shape to pass the tax bill," and calling it "the biggest tax cut in history."
Crude oil prices spiked nearly 3% to surpass $63 a barrel after Trump warned that Iranian oil exports could be driven to zero due to the country&#8217;s threat to regional stability.
The rally marks a 10% surge over the past four sessions, putting crude on track for its best four-day run since 2022.
The energy sector rallied in tandem, with U.S. energy stocks rising 1.5% on the day.
U.S. Treasury yields extended gains amid improving risk appetite. The 10-year yield jumped to 4.50%, while the 30-year yield climbed to 4.95%, signaling stronger expectations for economic resilience and possibly tighter monetary conditions down the line.
The U.S. dollar index slipped 0.5% after Monday's strong gains, reflecting a mild pullback as traders repositioned. Gold rose 0.6% to recover some ground amid geopolitical headlines.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rose 1.4% to $104,000, continuing its uptrend and reclaiming momentum after days of sideways action.

(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FSLR#NASDAQ">FSLR</a>), <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/top-stories/25/05/45381191/first-solar-eyes-best-2-day-rally-since-2013-after-gop-tax-plan-spares-key-clean-energy-credits">leading gains, up 21%. </a></li>

Stocks Surge, Nvidia Rallies 5%, Oil Tops $63 After Trump's Iran Warning: What's Driving Markets Tuesday?

President Donald Trump on Monday signed a sweeping executive order aimed at drastically reducing prescription <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/drug-prices">drug prices in the U.S. </a>
What Happened: The Trump administration wants to tie drug prices to the lowest amount paid in comparable foreign countries — a policy known as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/05/45381118/cvs-health-cigna-stocks-dip-tuesday-whats-going-on">&#8220;most-favored-nation&#8221; pricing.</a>
The executive order is <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/05/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-announces-actions-to-put-american-patients-first-by-lowering-drug-prices-and-stopping-foreign-free-riding-on-american-pharmaceutical-innovation/">a response</a> to what Trump described as &#8220;unreasonable or discriminatory&#8221; practices abroad. 
"In case after case, our citizens pay massively higher prices than other nations pay for the same exact pill, from the same factory, effectively subsidizing socialism aboard [abroad] with skyrocketing prices at home," Trump said in <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/05/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-announces-actions-to-put-american-patients-first-by-lowering-drug-prices-and-stopping-foreign-free-riding-on-american-pharmaceutical-innovation/">a statement</a>.&nbsp;
Drug manufacturers have 30 days to voluntarily lower prices for prescription drugs in the U.S. to match those paid in other advanced nations.&nbsp;
If companies do not comply, the Department of Health and Human Services, led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is tasked with developing rules to enforce most-favored nation (MFN) pricing or other regulatory measures.&nbsp;
The HHS is also instructed to establish mechanisms for Americans to purchase drugs directly from manufacturers at the MFN price, bypassing pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and other intermediaries.&nbsp;

Why It Matters: The executive order is a rare show of common ground between the Trump administration and Democratic leaders like Senator Bernie Sanders, who has long fought for laws aimed at making medicine more affordable.
And Trump has tried this before. During his first term, he signed a similar <a href="https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-lowering-drug-prices-putting-america-first-2/">order</a> that the courts ultimately blocked after the pharmaceutical industry lobbied against it.
Sanders fears the same thing might happen again. In a <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:upw5n2uwhzubjajdtqaufsek/post/3loyh44tra225?ref_src=embed&amp;ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.commondreams.org%252Fnews%252Ftrump-executive-order-drug-prices">post</a> on the Bluesky social network, he agreed that it is &#8220;an outrage that the American people pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs.&#8221;
&#8220;As Trump well knows, his executive order will be thrown out by the courts,&#8221; said Sanders. &#8220;If Trump is serious about making real change rather than just issuing a press release, he will support legislation I will soon be introducing to make sure we pay no more for prescription drugs than people in other major countries. If Republicans and Democrats come together on this legislation, we can get it passed in a few weeks.&#8221;
Pharmaceutical stocks dropped in Monday's premarket trading, but recovered into positive territory by the market close.
Analysts and investors decided the order was less-specific than feared and likely to be challenged in court.&nbsp;
"A drug pricing announcement had been expected for a while now and had weighed on stocks in this sector, so the official executive order doesn&#8217;t seem to be impacting sentiment too much,&#8221; said James Harlow, senior vice president at Novare Capital Management, per Reuters.&nbsp;
In contrast, Trump&#8217;s comments of &#8220;cutting out the middlemen&#8221; weighed on shares of companies that own pharmacy benefit managers like The Cigna Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CI#NYSE">CI</a>), CVS Health Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVS#NYSE">CVS</a>) and UnitedHeath Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UNH#NYSE">UNH</a>).&nbsp;
"I would cut out the middlemen," Trump said. "Everybody should equalize. Everybody should pay the same price."
Shares of UnitedHealth plunged Tuesday after<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45373368/unitedhealth-stock-plunges-names-new-ceo-suspends-2025-guidance"> the company</a> pulled its 2025 outlook, citing that care activity continued to accelerate and CEO Andrew Witty unexpectedly resigned.&nbsp;

What To Watch: The executive order threatens the PBM business model by enabling direct-to-consumer drug purchases, which could significantly reduce the need for PBMs&#8217; negotiating and administrative services. However, legal experts have raised concerns about the legality of direct-to-consumer sales.&nbsp;
"This order's suggestion of broader or direct-to-consumer importation stretches well beyond what the statute allows," warned health policy lawyer, Paul Kim, per the New York Post.&nbsp;
Investors in the healthcare sector may choose to mitigate risk and exposure to PBMs through a diversified healthcare ETF like the SPDR Select Health Care Sector Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLV#NYSE">XLV</a>) which holds shares of pharmaceuticals, health care equipment and supplies and health care providers.&nbsp;

Trump Again Promises Lower Drug Prices By 'Cutting Out Middlemen' Like UnitedHealth, CVS: Will It Work This Time?

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bear Market Rally Breaks out</h2>
In a post here last Thursday (<a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2025-05-08/still-bear-market-rally">Still A Bear‑Market Rally?</a>), I argued the April–May bounce was a policy‑fragile technical rally. On Monday, market technicals looked a lot less fragile:&nbsp;
<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>Breadth thrust&nbsp;– Over 50% of S&amp;P members closed above their 200‑DMA (first time since February).</li>
<li>Index breakout&nbsp;– S&amp;P finished ~1 % above its own 200‑DMA (~5 750).</li>
</ol>
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Even Pharma Joined In</h2>
Everyone expected a rally on Monday after the ceasefire in the U.S.-China trade war over the weekend. What I didn&#8217;t expect, though, was pharma stocks to join in that rally, in light of President Trump&#8217;s executive order lowering drug prices. In a post written before the market open (<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/25/05/45353526/profiting-from-a-pharma-panic">Profiting From A Pharma Panic</a>), I mentioned about a couple of pharma trades I had teed up if the sector opened in the red:

<li>FY‑24 royalty revenue&nbsp;+27 %&nbsp;y/y; operating cash‑flow margin&nbsp;45 %.</li>
<li>Net debt:&nbsp;$‑170 M&nbsp;(yes, net cash) after another quarter of buybacks.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Technicals 
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Price has stair‑stepped higher since October.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Price is above both 50 and 200 day moving averages&nbsp;– a textbook rising channel.</li>
</ul>

<li>Why MFN risk is minimal 
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Company&nbsp;A doesn't set list prices; its drug‑delivery platform earns a&nbsp;mid‑single‑digit royalty on&nbsp;net&nbsp;sales&nbsp;paid by its partners.</li>
<li>Those partners are market behemoths—Johnson&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Johnson&nbsp;(JNJ),&nbsp;Bristol&nbsp;Myers&nbsp;Squibb&nbsp;(BMY),&nbsp;Pfizer&nbsp;(PFE)—that can afford to yank products from low‑margin jurisdictions until pricing equilibrates.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>How I'm playing it 
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Bull‑put credit spread: Taking advantage of expensive puts to collect a net credit which we&#8217;ll get to keep if the stock doesn&#8217;t fall further over the next few months.</li>
<li>Equity kicker: Allocate part of that credit to Jan&nbsp;2026&nbsp;OTM calls. Theta from the spread finances the lottery ticket.</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Company&nbsp;B – The Diabetes Moon‑Shot</h3>
This one is a pure speculative bet—but with asymmetric payoff.

<li>First‑in‑human trial just made its debut participant&nbsp;insulin‑independent after 30&nbsp;years of Type‑1 Diabetes. Not only doesn&#8217;t he need to take insulin, but he doesn&#8217;t need to take any immunosuppressant drugs either. No safety issues so far.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Balance sheet 
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>~$800 M cash against a ~$400 M annual burn → roughly&nbsp;24&nbsp;months of runway&nbsp;with zero debt.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Risk 
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Biology can always surprise.</li>
<li>FDA hurdles, capital raises if share price pops.</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Position sizing 
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Treat as a&nbsp;lotto ticket: less than 1% of portfolio in common shares—small enough to torch without blinking, big enough to matter if the therapy works.</li>
</ul>

As it happened,&nbsp;pharma joined in the tariff‑pause relief rally.&nbsp;The&nbsp;Health Care Select Sector SPDR&#xAE; Fund&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLV#NYSE">XLV</a>) ripped +2.47 %, and my two pharma names both closed in the green. Not the sector you would have expected to join Monday&#8217;s rally, but the move priced me out of clean entries intraday.&nbsp;

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 13, 2025

Wall Street staged a robust rally Monday following the U.S.-China trade truce that slashed reciprocal tariffs by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">over 100 percentage points</a>.
By midday, risk-on sentiment was running at full throttle, propelling the Nasdaq 100 up 3.5% and lifting the S&amp;P 500 by 2.7% to 5,815.43—its highest level since March. The Dow Jones surged 958 points, or 2.3%, while the small-cap Russell 2000 added 3%.
Under the 90-day reprieve, the U.S. will cut tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%. China, in turn, will lower its tariffs on U.S. goods from 125% to 10%, effective May 14. The two countries also agreed to launch a formal mechanism for ongoing economic consultations, easing fears of a permanent decoupling.

Sector-wise, chipmakers led the rally, with the iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) jumping 7.2%. Marvell Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MRVL#NASDAQ">MRVL</a>) and Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>) gained 9% each. Investors expect the trade truce to ease chip disruptions and stabilize overseas demand.
While equities soared, gold suffered its worst day since Trump's election victory in November 2024. Gold prices dropped 3%, falling below $3,230 per ounce, as investors rotated out of safe havens and into risk assets.
The U.S. dollar index surged 1.3% to 101.8. The short-end of the curve also jumped, driven by fading expectations for near-term Fed rate cuts, with 2-year yields up 10 basis points to 4.0%. Yields on 30-year Treasury bonds climbed to 4.87%,
Oil prices rose 2% to $62.30 per barrel, reaching their highest level since late April amid hopes of a demand boost from improved global trade conditions.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 12, 2025

Wall Street traded slightly lower by midday Friday, as investors adopted a wait-and-see stance ahead of a potential trade breakthrough, with high-stakes negotiations between U.S. officials—led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—and Chinese authorities set to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">unfold over the weekend.</a>
President Donald Trump signaled that tariffs on Chinese goods could be slashed from the current 145% to 80%, though that figure remains significantly higher than pre-Liberation Day levels, prompting continued caution among market participants.
Equities gave back a portion of Thursday's gains as sentiment turned more defensive, while gold rebounded 1% to $3,330 per ounce, partially offsetting losses from the previous session.
Oil prices extended their rally, climbing further above $60 a barrel amid an improved global demand outlook, putting crude on track for its strongest weekly performance since late 2024. Natural gas followed suit, with Henry Hub futures rising 4.4%.
In fixed income, Treasury yields held steady, with the 10-year yield hovering around 4.37%.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) took a breather after Thursday's 6.4% surge, trading just above $102,500.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 9, 2025

U.S. stocks rallied Thursday after the Trump administration signed its first major trade agreement with the United Kingdom, igniting optimism about further global deals — especially with China — and lifting investor <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">appetite for riskier assets.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 jumped 1.3% to close at 5,700, led by gains in technology stocks. The Russell 2000 soared 2.1%, outperforming larger-cap counterparts and fully recovering the losses triggered by the April 2 tariff announcement.
Under the deal, the U.S. slashed tariffs on UK-made vehicles from 25% to 10%, granting British carmakers a 100,000-vehicle quota. In return, the UK reduced tariffs on American beef to near-zero levels and pledged to purchase $10 billion worth of Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) aircraft. Trump confirmed that the 10% tariff would remain the baseline for now, though he suggested other nations with large trade surpluses should expect higher rates.
During a press briefing, Trump hinted at the &#8220;biggest tax cuts in history&#8221; and urged investors to act: "You better go out and buy stock. This country will be like a rocket ship," he said.
The president also responded to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who noted a day earlier he hadn't been invited to meet with Trump. "I could call him from a meeting, but it's like talking to a wall," Trump said. 
"He's always too late [in cutting interest rates]. But in this case, it's not going to matter that much because our country is so strong."
Markets reflected that strength. The U.S. dollar rallied sharply as the new trade deal and reduced economic uncertainty boosted confidence. The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) jumped to its highest level since April 11, climbing over 1% against the Japanese yen.
Treasury yields rose across the curve, with the 10-year yield adding 7 basis points to reach 4.34%.
In commodities, gold prices dropped as investors rotated out of safe havens. The SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) fell 1.5%, trimming its weekly gains. Oil prices rose 3.5%, with West Texas Intermediate crude topping $60 per barrel.
Crypto markets erupted higher. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) broke above $100,000 for the first time since February, rising 4.1%. Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) surged 13%, while Dogecoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/doge/usd">DOGE</a>) gained 10%.

U.S. stocks traded mixed at midday Wednesday, as investors remained cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve&#8217;s upcoming policy decision, with Chair Jerome Powell set to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/05/45258146/all-eyes-on-powell-betting-markets-reveal-what-the-fed-chair-is-most-likely-to-say-on-wednesday">speak at 2:30 p.m. ET.</a>
Trade developments continued to influence market sentiment. During a Senate hearing, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that initial talks with China will begin in Switzerland later this week, though he emphasized they are only preliminary.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) led notable decliners, plunging over 7% after a Bloomberg report indicated an Apple executive's testimony suggested AI may be eroding traditional search market share.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 7, 2025

U.S. utility stocks roared higher on Tuesday, notching fresh highs not seen since late 2024, as investors rotated toward defensive assets while Washington's trade policy <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">outlook became increasingly muddled.</a>
The Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLU#NYSE">XLU</a>) climbed 1.8% during Tuesday trading, pushing the benchmark ETF to levels last seen in early December 2024. 
That gain cemented a 6.3% year-to-date advance, more of any other S&amp;P 500 sector. It outpaced technology stocks by 15 percentage points and the consumer discretionary sector by 18 percentage points.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Utilities Take The Lead</h3>
Still, the utilities sector remains one of the least crowded trades on Wall Street. Despite its 2024 outperformance, the lack of investor interest suggests an underownership of the sector.
In a note shared this week, Bank of America's latest Equity Client Flow Trends showed that utilities were the only sector to post outflows last week when institutional and retail clients alike bought into 10 out of 11 sectors—marking the widest sector participation in 10 months.
Tuesday's rally was driven in part by Constellation Energy Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CEG#NASDAQ">CEG</a>), which jumped 11.87%, brushing off weaker-than-expected first-quarter earnings thanks to an optimistic full-year forecast. Vistra Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VST#NYSE">VST</a>) gained 4.44%, ahead of its earnings release on Wednesday, while AES Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AES#NYSE">AES</a>) added 2.49%.
Looking at the 2025 performance, NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NRG#NYSE">NRG</a>) leads the utilities sector with a 31.4% YTD gain, followed by Consolidated Edison Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ED#NYSE">ED</a>), up 25.6%, and Exelon Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EXC#NASDAQ">EXC</a>), which has surged 24.5%.
Tuesday's market backdrop was shaped by fresh uncertainty surrounding U.S. trade relations. During a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Donald Trump floated the idea of renegotiating the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and claimed China is eager to return to the negotiating table due to its economic weakness.
Trump said talks with China would happen &#8220;at the right time,&#8221; adding that the U.S. was not obligated to finalize any deals.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Fed Steady For Now, But All Eyes on Powell</h3>
Attention now turns to Wednesday's Federal Reserve meeting, where economists broadly expect the central bank to hold interest rates steady at the 4.25%-4.5% range.
There's a 97% probability that the Fed will make no changes to policy in May, according to CME Group's FedWatch Tool. 
Yet, markets are already looking ahead to potential rate cuts. Fed futures pricing implies a 31% chance of a 25-basis-point cut in June and 78% by July. By year-end, there's an 82% chance the Fed will have delivered three rate cuts.
The post-decision press conference is expected to focus on Fed Chair Jerome Powell's response to political pressure, particularly after Trump's public calls for lower rates, which have reignited concerns about the central bank's independence.

Utilities Hit Highest Levels Since 2024 As Trade Jitters Drive Investors To Safety

Wall Street edged lower by midday Tuesday as uncertainty surrounding trade policies lingered, with investors adopting a cautious approach ahead of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/federal-reserve">Wednesday&#8217;s Federal Reserve meeting.</a>
In a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Donald Trump suggested the U.S. may soon begin renegotiating the USMCA. He noted that China is eager to negotiate due to its struggling economy, driven by a lack of U.S. trade, but emphasized the talks would take place &#8220;at the right time.&#8221;
Trump kept his trade stance unclear, suggesting that while some agreements may be signed, there is no obligation to finalize any, and dismissed repeated questions about the number of deals in progress.
The S&amp;P 500 dipped 30 points, or 0.6%, to 5,610, on track for its second consecutive negative session after nine straight gains. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.8%, while the Russell 2000 slipped 1%.
Ten of the 11 S&amp;P 500 sectors were in the red, with utilities as the only sector in the green. The U.S. dollar fell, extending its losses for a third straight session.
Commodities saw a broad rally, with oil prices surging 3.6%, pushing WTI above $59, following <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/05/45224883/oil-soars-above-59-as-middle-east-airstrikes-jolt-markets">Israeli airstrikes in Yemen</a>. Gold also rallied, climbing 2.4% to above $3,400 per ounce amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) reversed Monday's gains, slipping 0.4% to $94,375.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 6, 2025

Wall Street kicked off the week with a cautious tone, as major stock indices hovered near the flatline by midday in New York. Investors digested fresh signs of inflationary pressure in the services sector, raising doubts about near-term rate cuts and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">weighing on risk appetite.</a>
The ISM Services PMI for April pointed to only marginal growth, the slowest since late 2023, while the index for prices paid surged to its highest reading in more than two years, reflecting a sharp rise in input costs amid renewed trade disruptions tied to tariffs announced last month by President Donald Trump.
The S&amp;P 500 slipped 0.2% to 5,670, while the Nasdaq 100 matched the decline to 20,050. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, managed a modest 0.2% gain. If the S&amp;P 500 closes higher, it would mark its tenth consecutive session of gains, the longest winning streak since September 1995.
Rising bond yields pressured equities, with the 10-year Treasury yield climbing 4 basis points to 4.35%, and the 30-year yield up at 4.83%.
Speaking at the Milken Institute, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. was nearing agreements on new trade deals, potentially as soon as this week. He indicated that 17 trading partners, excluding China, had presented strong proposals, and suggested that meaningful progress with China could also emerge in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, oil prices dropped 2% to $57 a barrel following OPEC+'s signal of a 411,000 bpd production hike starting in June, with further increases possible over the summer.
Gold rallied 2%, on track for its strongest session in two weeks, while Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) held steady near $94,000.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For May 5, 2025

The U.S. stock market staged a stunning one-month rebound, fully erasing the losses triggered by Donald Trump&#8216;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">April 2 tariff announcements.</a>
From its April low of 4,835 points, the S&amp;P 500—tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>)—has surged 17.5%, logging nine consecutive sessions of gains through Friday, the longest winning streak since May 2024.
Still, the rally has been far from uniform across sectors.
The sectoral rebound since April has been powerful, but only a handful of sectors have managed to fully recover to or exceed their April 2 levels, before Trump&#8217;s tariff announcements triggered a broad selloff.
Technology led the charge, surging 25.9% since the April low and now stands 3.8% above its April 2 level, the strongest full recovery among all major sectors.
Industrials and Utilities also climbed 1.8% and 1% above their early-April levels, respectively.
Sectors like Consumer Discretionary , Communication Services, Financials, Consumer Staples, and Real Estate posted strong double-digit rebounds off April lows—ranging from 8.3% to 18.9%— finally reaching April 2 levels without breaching them.
On the other end of the spectrum, Energy remains 13.4% below its April 2 level, making it the worst laggard. Health Care is still down 4% from early April, even after recovering 7.2%. Materials also underperformed, ending the period 1.9% below its pre-tariff announcement level.
