U.S. equities traded sideways on Monday as investor sentiment wavered following President Donald Trump's weekend announcement of a sweeping 30% tariff on all imports from the European Union and Mexico, set to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">take effect August 1.</a>
Investor sentiment was further clouded by inflation concerns ahead of Tuesday's consumer price index release. Economists anticipate an annual rise from 2.4% to 2.7%, suggesting that companies may be starting to pass on higher import costs to consumers.
The second-quarter earnings season for major U.S. banks kicks off Tuesday, with JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>), Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/C#NYSE">C</a>), Wells Fargo &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WFC#NYSE">WFC</a>), and BlackRock Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BLK#NYSE">BLK</a>) all slated to report results before the bell.
Among sectors, energy stocks lagged as oil prices dropped 1.5% to below $67.60 per barrel. The decline came after Trump stopped short of imposing new sanctions on Russian oil, disappointing markets that had anticipated a tougher stance. While Trump did threaten 100% secondary tariffs on Russian energy exports if a ceasefire isn&#8217;t reached within 50 days, the lack of immediate measures weighed on crude.
In contrast, U.S. natural gas prices rose by more than 3%, with futures surpassing $3.40 for the first time in over a week, as rising LNG exports and forecasts for hotter-than-average weather through late July sustained demand.
The U.S. dollar index strengthened for a third straight session, up 1.4% since the start of July, and potentially snapping a five-month losing streak.
Bond markets saw continued volatility, with the 30-year Treasury yield surging to 4.98% — its highest since early June.
In precious metals, gold slipped 0.3% while silver also edged down 0.3% after hitting a fresh 14-year high last week.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rose 0.7% on the day but trimmed earlier gains, pulling back from its record high of $123,278.

Wall Street Pauses As Tariff Concerns Rise, Dollar Eyes Third Straight Gain: What's Moving Markets Monday?

Wall Street is poised to conclude the week on a cautious note, with equities easing on Friday after President Donald Trump signaled a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">more aggressive trade stance. </a>
A formal letter outlining tariff intentions is expected to be delivered to EU leaders in the coming hours, following Trump&#8217;s announcement earlier this week of a 35% tariff on Canadian imports starting Aug. 1 and blanket duties of 15% to 20% on most other trading partners.
The S&amp;P 500 dipped 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite was flat, after both notched fresh record highs on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 300 points, dragged down by renewed fears of a global trade escalation and weak sentiment in industrials and financials. Small caps, which had outperformed in recent sessions, dropped over 1%. 
Treasury markets reflected the increased anxiety. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note climbed nearly 4 basis points to 4.39%, as investors braced for potential inflationary effects from tariffs.
Commodities took center stage, with gold jumping over 1% to $3,355 per ounce, supported by safe-haven flows amid deepening trade frictions. Silver extended its bullish run, surging past $38 per ounce, its highest level in nearly 14 years.
Crude oil prices also regained momentum, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures rising above $68 per barrel, recovering from a 2.5% loss in the prior session.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) pulled back modestly after hitting a new all-time high of $118,839 overnight. The largest cryptocurrency was last trading near $117,500 as broader risk sentiment weakened.

A quiet day on Wall Street turned into a major win for airline investors Thursday, as Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DAL#NYSE">DAL</a>) surged 12% after posting second-quarter results that topped both earnings and revenue expectations, while indicating a strong demand outlook, sparking <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/25/07/46341383/delta-air-lines-ceo-confident-in-stronger-2025-as-demand-holds-steady">a broad rally across the sector.</a>
Shares of American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAL#NASDAQ">AAL</a>) jumped 12.5% and United Airlines Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UAL#NASDAQ">UAL</a>) rallied 13.5%. The U.S. Global Jets ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JETS#NYSE">JETS</a>), which tracks airline stocks, soared 7.2% for its best day since the 90-day tariff pause in April.
Elsewhere, major large-cap averages were little moved. The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.3% after hitting all-time highs on Wednesday. Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) eased 0.2%, following a 1.8% surge the day before that pushed its market cap to a record-breaking $4 trillion — the largest ever for any company.
Small-cap stocks continued to outperform, with the Russell 2000 touching levels last seen in February. 
A day earlier, President Donald Trump announced sweeping 50% tariffs on imports from Brazil and confirmed the 50% tariff on copper, effective Aug. 1.
iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWZ#NYSE">EWZ</a>) fell 1.6% Thursday, adding to a 1.7% decline on Wednesday. The combined 3.3% drop marked the worst two-day performance for Brazilian equities since early April.
Copper futures surged 2.2% to around $5.60 per pound in reaction, with strength spilling into other industrial metals. Silver rose 1.6%, while palladium gained 3.6%, reflecting expectations of tightening supply.
Crude oil prices declined over 2% as the market absorbed reports that OPEC+ is considering halting its planned production increases starting in October, highlighting concerns about a potential oversupply after the summer. 
In economic news, the U.S. labor market showed continued resilience as initial jobless claims dropped to 237,000 last week, beating forecasts. However, continuing claims rose to 1.965 million, the highest level since 2021.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) traded flat at $111,300 after touching a fresh record of $112,040 on Wednesday.

Wall Street rose on Wednesday as investors shrugged off fresh trade uncertainty after the White House delayed the start of new tariffs to Aug. 1, raising hopes for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">new rounds of negotiations.</a>
This came just a day after President Donald Trump floated sweeping tariffs, including a 50% tariff on copper and a potential 200% tariff on pharmaceuticals, though the latter may include a grace period.
The Russell 2000 led the charge, rising 0.7% to 2,244, as small-cap stocks continued to rebound. 
The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.5%, climbing to 22,815, supported by strength in megacap tech names. Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) grabbed headlines once again, with its market capitalization hitting $4 trillion, solidifying its lead as the world's most valuable company. According to the <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/e496f80f-1789-46b3-9275-a3f54344047e">Financial Times</a>, Nvidia is planning to launch a new AI chip designed specifically for China as soon as September. 
The S&amp;P 500 added 0.4%, trading at 6,250, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average inched 0.3% higher. 
Sector performance was mixed, with utilities outperforming while consumer staples lagged.
In the bond market, Treasury yields fell 5 basis points ahead of a key 10-year auction later in the day. The U.S. dollar index held steady, ahead of the Federal Reserve's minutes from the June FOMC meeting, released on Wednesday afternoon.
Oil prices climbed for a third consecutive session, rising to $69 per barrel, while gold held flat at $3,325. In crypto, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) advanced 0.9% to $109,235, trading just 2.5% below its all-time highs set in May.

Nvidia's $4 Trillion Milestone Lifts Wall Street: What's Moving Markets Wednesday?

U.S. stocks were little changed on Tuesday as investors stayed cautious following a series of letters from the White House to major trading partners, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">outlining sweeping new tariffs. </a>
The real market action unfolded in commodities, with copper surging 10% after President Donald Trump announced a 50% tariff on copper imports starting today.
The industrial metal jumped to $5.52 per pound, hitting a new all-time high and marking its biggest one-day gain since October 2008.
During a Cabinet meeting, Trump stated: "Some letters are at a 60%, 70% rate.&#8221; He said to be announcing new tariff measures on pharmaceuticals — possibly a 200% tariff.
He added that trade relations with China have been "very fair" recently, noting a strong working relationship.
While Trump reiterated openness to trade negotiations, he emphasized that the U.S. will not extend the August deadline for reciprocal tariffs to take effect.
Commenting on the European Union, Trump said: "The EU has been speaking to us. President von der Leyen has been very nice lately, but they've treated us badly until recently. We're probably two days away from sending the EU letter. A letter is a deal."
At 1:40 p.m. ET, the S&amp;P 500 was flat at 6,220, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.1% to 22,710, while small caps led the way with the Russell 2000 rising 0.9%.
Energy stocks outperformed as oil prices climbed 1.4% for a second straight session, topping $68 — a two-week high.
Treasury yields also moved higher, with the 10-year rising five basis points to 4.43% and the 30-year yield climbing to 4.96%.
The U.S. dollar remained steady, while gold fell 0.8% to $3,308 per ounce. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) traded around $109,125.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For July 8, 2025

President Donald Trump sent markets into a tailspin Monday after officially announcing sweeping 25% tariffs on all imports from Japan and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">South Korea, starting Aug. 1. </a>
The new tariffs apply to all goods from the two Asian economies and are in addition to any existing sector-specific duties.
The new 25% tariffs follow earlier duties set on April 2 — 24% for Japan and 25% for South Korea — after the U.S. claimed trade barriers and currency practices raised effective rates to 46% and 50%, respectively. The hike comes after a 90-day negotiation window, announced April 9, which expired without deals.
In official letters sent to both governments, Trump said the tariffs are necessary to correct "unsustainable trade deficits" caused by "years of tariff and non-tariff policies and trade barriers." He added that any goods transshipped to evade the duties will be charged the higher rate.
Trump emphasized the measure was moderate, saying the 25% rate is "far less than what is needed to eliminate the trade deficit disparity." He also invited Japanese and South Korean firms to move production to the U.S., promising quick and professional regulatory approvals.
Trump stated that if trading partners were to raise their own tariffs, the U.S. would match that increase by adding the same percentage to its newly announced 25% tariff rate.
Earlier in the week, U.S. officials a separate deadline for reaching a deal with the European Union — before EU goods are subjected to duties of up to 50% — was set for Wednesday.
The tariff developments comes as the U.S. sets a separate deadline for reaching a trade agreement with the European Union. Without a deal, EU goods could face duties as high as 50%, compounding global trade concerns.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Stocks Slip, Dollar Rallies After Sweeping Tariffs</h1>
By midday trading in New York, the S&amp;P 500 dropped 0.9% to 6,220 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 1.1%, losing more than 450 points to 44,320.
The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) — also known as the market&#8217;s fear gauge — rallied 11%. Each S&amp;P 500 sector traded in the red with cyclical stocks underperforming. Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) was the worst performer in both the S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq 100.
The EV giant sank 7.4% after Elon Musk announced the launch of the America Party, a new political movement aimed at challenging both Democrats and Republicans over federal spending in Washington. 
In currency markets, the U.S. dollar index surged 0.6%, marking its strongest session in nearly three weeks, as investors fled to the greenback amid rising global uncertainty.
The greenback jumped over 1% against the Japanese yen and gained 1.2% against the South Korean won.

Wall Street Slumps, Dollar Jumps After Trump's Tariff Blitz: What's Moving Markets Monday?

Dow Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DOW#NYSE">DOW</a>) is moving forward with a series of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/07/n46269864/dow-will-shut-down-three-upstream-european-assets-in-response-to-structural-challenges-in-the-regi" rel="noreferrer noopener">strategic asset closures</a> across Europe as part of a broader restructuring plan to boost long-term profitability and streamline global operations.
The decision, approved by the board, involves winding down operations at an ethylene cracker in Böhlen and chlor-alkali and vinyl units in Schkopau, Germany, and a siloxanes facility in Barry, U.K. The closures will begin in mid-2026 and are expected to conclude by late 2027, with decommissioning continuing through 2029.
The restructuring, first <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/04/44978321/dow-posts-surprise-profit-as-volumes-rise-in-q1-but-cash-flow-and-capex-outlook-signal-market-caution" rel="noreferrer noopener">outlined</a> in April, is expected to boost operating EBITDA by approximately $200 million annually by 2029. Dow will spend about $500 million over four years to carry out the changes and expects to take charges of $630 million to $790 million, including severance, asset disposal, and write-downs.

Chair and CEO Jim Fitterling said the actions reflect ongoing efforts to respond to weak market conditions and high costs in Europe. &#8220;We&#8217;re committed to unlocking value from targeted growth projects and strengthening our cash flow with over $6 billion in near-term support,&#8221; he said.
Approximately 800 Dow roles will be impacted as a result of these actions. These roles are in addition to the $1&nbsp;billion cost savings actions&nbsp;announced in January&nbsp;that included a workforce reduction of approximately 1,500 Dow roles globally.
Dow said it will coordinate with local stakeholders and follow legal requirements in each country throughout the process.
The company said the restructuring will reduce its reliance on higher-cost, energy-intensive operations and allow it to focus on more profitable downstream demand.

Wall Street loves a good comeback tale, and June&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">ETF flows</a> provided just that. With $102.7 billion in net inflows, according to FactSet data, the U.S. ETF business rebounded from its April slowdown, posting a 17% increase over May and taking total assets under management to $11.5 trillion. But the real tale? A few ETFs and issuers have left everyone else in the dust, flashing neon signs that investors are wagering on high-beta (highly volatile) funds.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">High-Conviction Inflows</h2>
Rafferty Asset Management booked a stunning $256.6 million in June inflows, a 730% recovery from May&#8217;s painful outflow of more than $40 million. Close behind was Tuttle Capital, taking in $68.7 million, another flip after a drubbing in May. Toroso Investments generated $7.8 million in new inflows, a small but significant amount.
What&#8217;s driving it? A league of single-stock and leveraged ETFs that are high-risk, high-reward, and extremely popular today.
Eight issuers launched 23 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/new-etfs/25/07/46203728/quantum-ai-nuclear-three-frontiers-one-launchpad-powered-by-defiance-etfs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new single-stock ETFs in June</a> — a notable increase. They are not for the weak of heart: 75% are geared (leveraged/inverse) and target tactical, high-conviction trades. Altogether, these six ETFs collectively brought in more than $391 million in June, predominantly from leveraged bets on the large-cap tech giants.
Looking at year-to-date inflows, FactSet revealed:
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>TSL (Tesla 2X) tops YTD flows with $310.8 million.</li>
<li>MSTY (MicroStrategy option income) takes second with $198 million.</li>
<li>PTIR (Palantir 2X) is not far behind at $98.6 million.</li>
</ul>
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sector Signals: Where The Money Is Heading</h2>
June&#8217;s sector flows told a distinct story: investors are gravitating back into Tech, Consumer Discretionary, and Communication Services— all areas connected to AI, platforms, and online consumption. 
Financials, Energy, and Health Care experienced ongoing outflows, meanwhile. This was evident from the $707 million inflows recorded in SPDR Select Sector Fund &#8211; Technology (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLK#NYSE">XLK</a>), $459 million in Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLB#NYSE">XLB</a>) and $601 million in the Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLC#NYSE">XLC</a>). 
Conversely, $1.5 billion flowed out of SPDR Select Sector Fund &#8211; Financial (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLF#NYSE">XLF</a>), $303 million from SPDR Select Sector Fund &#8211; Energy (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>) and $661 million from SPDR Select Sector Fund &#8211; Health Care (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLV#NYSE">XLV</a>).
And while fixed income flows fell 16% to $32 billion, equity flows rose 29% to $57 billion, showing that investors aren&#8217;t quite risk-averse, but are merely growing more discerning.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Watch The Leaders, Read The Signals</h2>
Although June&#8217;s overall inflows were robust, it&#8217;s the degree to which investor money has flowed into a handful of high-beta ETFs that&#8217;s most illustrative. It is a sign of unprecedented conviction, not merely in big tech and AI, but in tactical, aggressive investing. Whether the giants of this rally can sustain their dominance will be determined by macro tailwinds and how long this momentum mojo can last.
For the time being, the message from ETF land is unmistakable: risk is back on, primarily for those fearless enough to ride it 2X.

Tesla, Nvidia, Palantir ETFs Dominate As Traders Pile Into High-Risk Bets In June

U.S. stocks surged to new record highs on Thursday, with Wall Street celebrating stronger-than-expected labor market data ahead <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/07/46244105/june-jobs-report-nonfarm-payroll-adp-data">of the July 4 holiday.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 was eyeing 6,300, while the Nasdaq 100 climbed to 22,860. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also rallied, coming close to 44,900 — just shy of its January peak. Small caps joined the rally, with the Russell 2000 up nearly 1%.
Investor sentiment was boosted by June's nonfarm payrolls report, which showed the U.S. economy added 147,000 jobs — well above the 110,000 forecast. The data helped ease concerns stoked by a weak private payroll report just a day earlier.
Tech stocks led the charge, with the so-called Magnificent Seven reaching a combined market cap of $18.1 trillion. NVIDIA Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) solidified its lead as the world's most valuable company, surpassing a $3.9 trillion valuation, ahead of Microsoft Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NYSE">MSFT</a>) at $3.7 trillion.
Gains were broad-based across sectors, with only consumer staples slipping 0.1%. Technology and financials outperformed.
In bond markets, Treasury yields rose for a second straight session. The 30-year yield hit 4.85% as the U.S. Senate-passed "One Big Beautiful Bill" advanced to the House.
The upbeat jobs report also lifted the U.S. dollar. The DXY index gained 0.4%, with traders scaling back expectations for a rate cut in July — now pricing in just a 7% chance, down from 25% the day before.
Commodities came under pressure as the dollar strengthened. Gold fell 0.5%, oil slipped 1% and copper declined 1.1%.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) held steady near $109,700.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For July 3, 2025

U.S. stocks climbed on Wednesday, with the S&amp;P 500 setting fresh record highs after a surprise decline in private payrolls boosted expectations <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/07/46218795/labor-market-payrolls-june-interest-rates">of Federal Reserve rate cuts.</a>
The ADP National Employment Report showed private employers shed 33,000 jobs in June 2025 — the first monthly contraction since March 2023. The sharp miss reinforced market bets that the Fed may ease policy sooner than expected. Economists now expect Friday's official nonfarm payrolls report to show a slowdown from 139,000 to 110,000 jobs.
Rate cut odds rose sharply. Markets now see a 25% chance of a July cut and fully price in a reduction by September. A second cut by December is also fully priced in.
The S&amp;P 500 jumped above 6,200 points, notching new record highs. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.8% to 22,650, nearing its all-time peak, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average held steady around 44,500. Small-cap stocks outperformed for the second consecutive session.
On the trade front, President Donald Trump announced a new agreement with Vietnam. Under the terms, Vietnam will impose a 20% tariff on all exports to the U.S. and a 40% tariff on transshipped goods, while granting &#8220;total access&#8221; to U.S. companies seeking to enter its domestic market.
In currency markets, the U.S. dollar rose 0.3%, breaking a long losing streak. Treasury yields climbed, with the 30-year yield rising 8 basis points to 4.85%.
Commodities strengthened across the board. Gold rose 0.5%, silver gained 1.2%, and WTI crude oil surged 1.9%.
Crypto markets rallied, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) climbing 3.5% to $109,550.

Leading And Lagging Sectors For July 2, 2025

A mixed trading session took shape Tuesday on Wall Street, as investors rotated out of high-flying tech stocks <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">and into lagging sectors.</a>
By midday in New York, the Nasdaq 100 dropped 0.7% to 22,500 points, while small caps in the Russell 2000 jumped 1.9% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.2%, reflecting strength in blue-chip and small-cap names. The S&amp;P 500 was flat at 6,200 points.
Shares of Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NASDAQ">PLTR</a>) fell 4% despite a lack of major news, as investors appeared willing to take some profits following a year-to-date rally of over 70%.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Powell Keeps July Rate Cut On the Table</h1>
Speaking at the European Central Bank's symposium in Sintra, Fed Chair Jerome Powell signaled that most officials still expect to cut interest rates later this year. 
Notably, Powell rejected the speculation that a July rate cut is off the table, reaffirming the Fed's data-dependent stance. 
Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate approved President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill. 
The U.S. dollar index held steady as the greenback attempted to snap a nine-day losing streak against the euro — the longest stretch of declines since 2003. Treasury yields edged slightly higher, with the 10-year note rising three basis points to 4.26%.
On the sector front, materials outperformed, breaking above their 200-day moving average for the first time in 2025. Technology lagged. 
In industry highlights, solar stocks rallied after the Senate approved a tax-and-spending bill that scrapped a proposed excise tax on renewable energy projects. Upward momentum was seen from Sunrun Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RUN#NASDAQ">RUN</a>), up 10%; SolarEdge Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SEDG#NASDAQ">SEDG</a>), up 9.7% and Enphase Energy Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ENPH#NASDAQ">ENPH</a>), up 4%, while the Invesco Solar ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TAN#NYSE">TAN</a>) surged 5.4%.
Commodities advanced broadly, with gold gaining 1% to $3,340 per ounce and silver rising 0.5% to $36.20. Copper edged up 0.2%, reaching its highest level since late March, while oil climbed 1% to $65.71 a barrel.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) softened 1% to $106,000.

With only days remaining until President Donald Trump&#8217;s self-imposed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/06/46156587/trump-says-july-tariff-deadline-not-set-in-stone-we-can-do-whatever-we-want">July 9 tariff deadline</a>, the world trade scene resembles more of a geopolitical roulette table than a negotiation process. Although Trump&#8217;s return to tariff diplomacy has reignited diplomatic turmoil and corporate jitters, ETF investors seem to be playing it cool, at least for now.
In typical Trumpian style, the U.S. President has threatened broad new tariffs for dozens of nations that don&#8217;t come to framework deals within a week. And while volatility typically follows trade tensions, the markets are responding with an unusual resilience. So are ETF performances.
As it happens, investors might be putting their money on the &#8220;TACO&#8221; theory, short for &#8220;Trump Always Chickens Out,&#8221; a sarcastic acronym that has gained traction on trading desks to characterize his style of issuing bold threats and then backing down.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Global Trade In The Crosshairs&#8230;Again</h2>
The stakes are high. From Canada and the EU to Taiwan and India, a broad swath of nations is at risk of getting their tariffs increased unless they negotiate deals or are considered to be &#8220;negotiating in good faith.&#8221; Trump has warned that tariffs could climb from the 10% baseline to as much as 25%. He has even suggested he might act before the July 9 deadline.
The White House has been sending mixed signals. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick claimed the administration is aiming for "top 10 deals" with key partners. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that nearly 20 countries may face immediate tariff hikes. Canada, for its part, has already blinked—backing off a digital services tax to get back to the table.
However, even as Trump ignites the trade universe with 280-character warnings, the ETF universe has remained relatively calm.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">ETF Investors: Not Panicked, But Cautious</h2>

China&#8217;s exposure is still delicate. Safe havens and commodities are in style again. SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GLD#NYSE">GLD</a>) has recorded some of its most significant monthly advances since February, indicating investors are hedging against policy misfires.
If Trump follows through on blanket tariff increases, the shakeout would be rapid.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Likely Losers</h2>
Export-oriented ETFs, such as the Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLI#NYSE">XLI</a>) and the Materials Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLB#NYSE">XLB</a>), are heavily dependent on cross-border supply chains.
European nation ETFs, like iShares MSCI Germany ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWG#NYSE">EWG</a>), iShares MSCI United Kingdom ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EWU#NYSE">EWU</a>), and iShares MSCI Eurozone ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EZU#BATS">EZU</a>), may experience volatility if the EU fails to reach an agreement by the deadline.

Equity markets have not yet fully priced in the possibility of Armageddon. Volatility is low (VIX at 16.74). And ETF investors appear to be hedging, not running for the hills.
As the tariff countdown continues, ETF investors are closely monitoring, though not yet bailing out. Whether Trump adheres to the deadline or drags out the anarchy into late July is anybody&#8217;s guess.
For the time being, the smart money is wagering on still more &#8220;deal theater,&#8221; tastefully staged for maximum political impact. But as always with Trump, a single tweet could upend everything.

Risk appetite remained firm as geopolitical tensions eased and hopes grew that upcoming U.S. trade talks could yield tangible progress. Market sentiment was further supported by rising expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut, with Fed futures currently assigning a 93% chance of a rate cut in September.
The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 rose 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed nearly 200 points, breaking above the 44,000 mark.
President Donald Trump signaled openness to extending the July 9 deadline for reinstating reciprocal tariffs, adding that he remained optimistic about reaching key agreements in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Canada's withdrawal of its digital services tax helped improve the outlook for U.S. tech firms and reignited momentum in trade negotiations with Washington.
In currency markets, the U.S. Dollar Index is set for its fifth consecutive monthly decline, marking its longest losing streak since 2017 and its worst half-year performance since 1991, with a 10.5% drop year-to-date.
Treasury yields edged lower, with the 10-year yield dipping to 4.25% and the 30-year yield retreating to 4.80%, snapping a three-month streak of increases.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) slipped 1% to $107,330, consolidating after a strong second-quarter rally of 30%.
