Did you know there's a way to predict the S&amp;P 500 with an ~85% correlation?
Sounds insane, but it's true.
Here's the surprising logic behind my claim:

When investors look for long-term bullish S&amp;P 500 signals, they look at:
U.S CPI
U.S. interest rates
U.S. M2 supply (relatively liquid assets in the U.S economy)
This is a mistake.
Although these metrics matter, there's something we commonly forget.
Unlike most countries, the U.S. stock market is global.
German citizens rarely invest in Japanese stocks.
But many will invest in Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, etc.
When central banks print money, it enters the economy of that respective country.
A portion of that money goes to citizens who buy food, shelter, clothing, etc.
However, some of them will invest their cash into assets.
A sizable portion specifically goes into the S&amp;P or S&amp;P-included companies.
That's why, if you're investing in the S&amp;P, you can't just focus on U.S. liquidity.
You need to focus on global liquidity instead.
The problem is global liquidity is hard to measure.
Combining M2 and interest rate data from the world's central banks isn't easy.
That's why financial data platforms like Ycharts and TradingView don't have a global liquidity metric.
This is why investors typically track GL from the 5 biggest central banks.
Specifically the:
Bank of Japan
Federal Reserve
Bank of England
European Central Bank
People's Bank of China
These are the most important central banks in the world, and tracking their efforts isn't difficult.
This is where most investors go wrong, when they exclusively track the Fed's monetary policies to predict the S&amp;P's long-term outlook.
But the S&amp;P receives inflows from across the globe.
That's why the decisions of the BoJ, BoE, ECB, and PBoC collectively matter more than the Federal Reserve alone.
Thanks to the U.S. stock market&#8217;s global status, global liquidity is highly correlated.
Popular U.S. stock indexes like the NASDAQ, for example, have a 95% correlation.
Whereas the S&amp;P has an ~85% correlation.
This chart speaks volumes.

However, during bull markets, global liquidity sometimes decouples from the S&amp;P.
Particularly when there's particularly bullish news and the market gets excited.
Trump's election victory was a great example of this.
Politics aside, Trump has always been bullish for stocks.
The same can be said about bearish black swan events.
2008, the initial COVID scare, Yen carry trade, Deepseek, etc.
Bullish and bearish signals decouple the market from global liquidity.
But it always realigns.
It's important to remember that there's a delay between global liquidity and the stock market.
It takes time for liquidity to flow into assets and inflate prices.
Liquidity → stocks – fewer shares → lower supply → prices rise
What's the moral of the story?
Don't just analyze U.S. monetary policies.
Monitor the policies of the biggest central banks in the world.
With a delay, you can reliably predict the movements of major U.S. indexes.

There's a way to predict the S&P 500 with an 85% correlation!

<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/s-p-500-index">The S&amp;P 500 index</a> remains in bullish territory, but it&#8217;s losing its shine compared to global markets. 
JPMorgan analyst Jason Hunter notes that while the index maintains higher lows and pushes resistance levels, it's struggling to break past the 6,100 peak.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Big Caps Hold Ground, But Momentum Wobbles </h2>
With momentum cooling off, the path to the next milestone of 6,350 looks slow and choppy. ETFs like SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and the Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>) continue to reflect this cautious optimism but aren't exactly screaming bullish right now.
Hunter points out that the S&amp;P 500's current bullish trend remains intact as long as it holds above key support between 5,772 and 5,871. However, a break below 5,651 could jeopardize the broader uptrend. For now, investors might want to tread carefully while keeping an eye on key levels.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Small Caps Eyeing A Breakout</h2>
Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 index is quietly building steam. Hovering above key support at 2,150, the index is consolidating for a potential breakout past the 2,310-2,350 resistance zone. Hunter sees an eventual rally toward the 2,432-2,466 range if global cyclicals keep trending up. 
For ETF investors, iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IWM#NYSE">IWM</a>) and the Vanguard Russell 2000 Index Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VTWO#NYSE">VTWO</a>) might be worth a closer look as small caps gear up for what could be a catch-up trade.
Interestingly, history suggests that when cyclical markets pick up, small caps tend to outperform. With global equity leadership broadening, the odds could tilt in favor of small-cap stocks outperforming large caps in the coming months.

S&P 500 Vs. Russell 2000: Are Small Caps Set For A Breakout?

A historic shift has taken place in the $11 trillion <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">ETF industry</a>, as Vanguard has overtaken State Street to claim the title of the world's largest exchange-traded fund provider. 
The Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>) has emerged as the largest ETF by assets under management (AUM), surpassing the long-dominant SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>). This highlights the increasing shift towards cost-efficient, passive investing as more investors flock to these strategies.
According to Bloomberg, VOO now holds nearly $632 billion in AUM, having attracted an impressive $23 billion in inflows so far in 2025. Super Micro&#8217;s <a target="_blank" href="https://ir.supermicro.com/financials/sec-filings/default.aspx" rel="noreferrer noopener">gross margin</a> ranged between 15%-18% in the last three fiscals <a target="_blank" href="https://investors.hpe.com/financial/annual-reports" rel="noreferrer noopener">compared to</a> Hewlett Packard&#8217;s 33.4%-35% and <a target="_blank" href="https://investors.delltechnologies.com/financial-information/sec-filings?field_nir_sec_form_group_target_id=471&amp;field_nir_sec_date_filed_value=&amp;filter_type=&amp;relative_date_range_after=&amp;relative_date_range_before=&amp;exact_date_range_after=&amp;exact_date_range_before=&amp;items_per_page=10" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dell&#8217;s 22%-24%</a> due to the companies&#8217; diversified product portfolio with potentially higher margin segments.
Also, Super Micro priced its AI servers at a discount versus rivals to win market share, Reuters cited CFO David Weigand during a quarterly earnings call.
Super Micro&#8217;s stock value lost 25% in the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42520765/super-micro-drops-below-50-day-average-faces-nasdaq-100-removal-just-months-after-entry" rel="noreferrer noopener">last six months</a> as auditor Ernst &amp; Young quit in October over governance concerns. The company tapped BDO USA as its new auditor.
Super Micro, scrutinized by a Hindenburg Research report and a U.S. Department of Justice probe for alleged accounting fraud, has until February 25 to file its delayed financial reports. The stock lost its position in the Nasdaq 100 index in December 2024, months after joining it in July 2024.
According to the AI server company&#8217;s latest <a target="_blank" href="https://d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net/CIK-0001375365/b47ec77a-b669-438b-82d3-553ab0d77e45.html" rel="noreferrer noopener">quarterly report</a>, Super Micro&#8217;s <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41355570/super-micro-expands-liquid-cooled-ai-servers-with-nvidia-power" rel="noreferrer noopener">customers include</a> Intel Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>), Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>), Samsung Electronics (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SSNLF#OTC">SSNLF</a>), and Micron Technology, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MU#NASDAQ">MU</a>).
Super Micro remains <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42709635/super-micro-and-nvidia-expand-in-taiwan-with-green-energy-and-ai-projects" rel="noreferrer noopener">engaged in constructive endeavors</a>, including collaborating with Taiwan&#8217;s Guo Rui to form a renewable-energy-powered computation center in Taiwan. Reportedly, Nvidia plans to build a secondary headquarters in Taiwan.
Super Micro launched new <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/movers/25/02/43500503/whats-going-on-with-ai-infrastructure-provider-supermicros-stock-today" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI data center solutions</a> with Nvidia Blackwell, and it has production plants in San Jose, Europe, and Asia.
In January, Super Micro began shipping <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/01/42900090/super-micro-begins-shipping-max-performance-servers-with-intel-xeon-6900-series-processors" rel="noreferrer noopener">max-performance servers</a> with Intel Xeon 6900 processors optimized for AI, HPC, and GPU-intensive tasks.
On January 30, Super Micro CEO Charles Liang <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/charlesliang/status/1885087135922847978" rel="noreferrer noopener">tweeted</a> about expanding its partnership with Elon Musk&#8217;s AI startup,&nbsp;xAI.
On Tuesday, Super Micro reported <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43646949/supermicro-sees-conservative-40-billion-revenue-target-despite-auditor-exit-stocks-50-slide" rel="noreferrer noopener">preliminary second-quarter</a> revenue of $5.6 billion—$5.7 billion (below the $5.89 billion consensus), up 54%.&nbsp;
The company cut its fiscal year 2025 guidance to $23.5 billion—$25 billion from its previous forecast of $26 billion—$30 billion (versus the $24.92 billion consensus). It projected fiscal year 2026 revenue of $40 billion versus the $29.92 billion consensus.
The company expects to file&nbsp;its delayed annual and quarterly reports to the U.S. SEC <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/02/43651025/smci-climbs-66-in-wednesday-pre-market-whats-going-on" rel="noreferrer noopener">by the deadline</a>.
Analysts rerated the stock upon the results.

<li>Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson maintained Super Micro with a Neutral and raised the price target from $24 to $40.</li>
<li>JP Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee maintained Super Micro with an Underweight and raised the price target from $23 to $35.</li>
<li>Needham analyst Quinn Bolton suspended the rating on Super Micro.</li>
</ul>
Wedbush: Super Micro&#8217;s softer, uninspiring results, the vision of a significantly more robust future, and plans to file its financials before the deadline should reduce uncertainty.
Bryson expects the business to expand considerably in the first half of 2026. However, he is also hesitant to model as aggressively as management forecasts.
JP Morgan: Despite the near-term softness, Super Micro surprised with an updated full-year guide, which implied a strong revenue inflection that the company expects will start a robust AI server revenue cycle.
The price target boost reflects increased conviction from the management team to meet regulatory deadlines.
Needham: Super Micro&#8217;s preliminary revenue and gross margin results fell slightly short of expectations as customers waited to order new Blackwell systems and aggressive pricing on Hopper products.
Bolton maintained his suspended rating as he awaited the filing of the annual and quarterly reports.

Super Micro Rides AI Server Boom, Analysts See Big 2026 Growth Despite Near-Term Challenges

Over the past year, VOO has led the ETF industry in net inflows, attracting an astonishing $127 billion, according to TradingView data. This figure surpasses IVV's inflows by a margin of $50 billion.

Here's a look at the history of the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and how much an investment at launch would be worth today. What Happened: Launched with seed funding of $6.5 million, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/01/30529288/worlds-first-etf-turns-30-heres-how-much-money-youd-have-if-you-invested-1-000-when-it-launched" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> became the first U.S. ETF </a>on Jan. 22, 1993.

The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF traded at around $43.61 in its first days of trading. A $1,000 investment could have purchased 22.93 shares at the time.
The $1,000 investment would be worth $13,930.20 today based on a price of $607.51 for the SPY at the time of writing. This represents a hypothetical return of $1,293.0% over the past 32 years.
Investors who bought the SPY on Jan. 22, 1993, based on a price of $25.02 adjusted for dividends would have an even larger return. The SPY has an adjusted price of $25.02 when adjusted for dividends, which means a $1,000 investment could have purchased 39.97 shares.
The $1,000 investment would be worth $24,282.17 today. This represents a hypothetical return of 2,328.2% over the past 32 years.

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">ETF market is never dull</a>, and 2025 promises to be no exception. 
In a podcast discussion on Bloomberg, The ETF Store, Inc. President Nate Geraci, along with Bloomberg&#8217;s Eric Balchunas and Vilna Hyek shared their thoughts on what lies ahead. Here's a look at the predictions shaping the conversation.
First up: A fee war. Geraci believes we're about to see some serious competition among the biggest S&amp;P 500 ETFs. Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>) and iShares Core S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IVV#NYSE">IVV</a>) are duking it out to become the market favorite. 
With fees already thin at 0.02% and 0.03% respectively, any further cuts could make headlines. "It's about capturing that top spot," said Geraci. Vanguard has a history of passing cost savings to investors as funds grow. It's a win for consumers, but it could squeeze margins for providers.

Coming to the second prediction, Geraci is optimistic that 2025 will bring a wave of approvals for spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, along with some altcoin-focused funds. Why now? The regulatory environment looks set to become more crypto-friendly, especially with potential leadership changes at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. 
If Geraci is right, expect a flood of new options for investors looking to ride the crypto wave through ETFs.
Not every innovation, however, is a perfect fit for ETFs. Take private credit ETFs, for instance. While they sound intriguing, Geraci is skeptical. The biggest issue? Private credit is illiquid, and ETFs promise daily liquidity. Throw in potential conflicts of interest — like fund managers acting as both liquidity providers and valuation sources — and it's a recipe for disaster. "The structure just doesn't match the asset," he warned.
Tax efficiency is another trend that's gaining traction. Among those gaining popularity are structures like 351 exchanges, which let investors contribute stocks whose prices have appreciated, to an ETF, without triggering capital gains taxes. These setups aren't just about saving money — they also make ETFs a smarter tool for long-term planning.
Of course, the conversation wouldn't be complete without a word of caution. Leveraged single-stock ETFs have been grabbing attention, but they carry significant risks. Geraci is blunt about it: "It's only a matter of time before one of these implodes." Leveraged ETFs built around sensitive stocks are one sharp dip away from falling off the cliff.
So, what does all this mean for 2025? It's clear that the ETF market is evolving rapidly, with innovation and competition driving the next phase of growth. But as always, investors should keep an eye on the risks. As Geraci put it, "These aren't just investment calls — they're predictions about the forces reshaping the ETF industry."

ETFs In 2025: Fee Wars, Crypto Booms, And The Risks Ahead

Intel Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) stock gained Friday on reports claiming that <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/intel" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the struggling chipmaker</a> is an acquisition target. The stock has plunged 54% in the last 12 months.
Charlie Demerjian of SemiAccurate claimed an email about a resourceful company trying to <a href="https://www.semiaccurate.com/2025/01/17/sources-say-intel-is-an-acquisition-target/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">acquire Intel wholly</a>. However, the report did not disclose the name of the acquirer or the purchase consideration for Intel.
Reportedly, CFO Dave Zinsner had acknowledged the possibility of selling Intel&#8217;s factory and product development divisions. Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus became <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/media/25/01/43004444/intel-plans-to-spin-off-5-billion-venture-capital-segment-will-remain-anchor-investor" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Intel&#8217;s interim co-CEO</a> after the company fired veteran chief Pat Gelsinger as his turnaround efforts failed to impress the board.

Benzinga has reached out to Intel for comments and will update on receiving their response.
Unlike Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>) and Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), Intel has failed to capitalize on the AI technology boom.
Intel also failed to make a mark with its AI accelerator business after the Gaudi chip lost out to competitors like Nvidia.
Intel also lost out on the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/42826372/intel-struggles-to-compete-with-amd-and-nvidia-in-data-centers-and-ai-chips" rel="noreferrer noopener">PC gaming market</a> to Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>).
Under Gelsinger&#8217;s supervision, Intel restructured smaller divisions over the past two years and reduced its workforce in 2024.
Intel is spinning off its Altera chip division, aiming to make it a publicly traded company. However, it continues to own Mobileye Global Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MBLY#NASDAQ">MBLY</a>), Israel&#8217;s autonomous driving firm.
In 2024, Intel also sought to transform its foundry business into an independent unit.
Also this week, Intel <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/43004444" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced plans</a> to spin off Intel Capital into a standalone fund for greater independence and capital attraction.
Standalone Intel Capital will operate under a new name in late 2025, with Intel as an anchor investor.
Intel showcased&nbsp;an electric vehicle platform&nbsp;with AI and cloud tools at CES 2025, bagging&nbsp;Stellantis (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>), Stellantis Motorsports, and Karma Automotive as clients.
Investors can gain exposure to Intel through Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>) and iShares Core S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IVV#NYSE">IVV</a>).

Intel Stock Gains On Speculative Buyout Report, Details Remain Unclear

Intel Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/intel" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">announced Tuesday its intention</a> to separate Intel Capital, its global venture capital arm, into a standalone fund.

Established in 1991, Intel Capital is a leading corporate venture investor with over $5 billion in assets under management.
Standalone operations will likely begin in the second half of 2025 when Intel Capital will operate under a new name.
The existing Intel Capital team will move to the new company, and business operations will continue throughout the transition.
In December, Bloomberg highlighted CFO Dave Zinsner, who did not rule out the possibility of selling the company's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/media/24/12/42482813/intel-cfo-hints-at-possible-division-split-as-company-struggles-to-recapture-moat" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">factory and product-development divisions</a>.
Zinsner took over the position of Intel's interim co-CEO along with&nbsp;Michelle Johnston Holthaus following Pat Gelsinger's exit.
Intel&nbsp;stock plunged over 59% in the last 12 months as it failed to capitalize on the shift to artificial intelligence technology akin to the likes of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>). <h3 class="wp-block-heading">A Strong Dollar's Impact On Earnings</h3>
When the dollar strengthens, U.S. multinational companies with significant foreign revenue face headwinds. This is because their international earnings must be converted back into dollars, often causing erosion in revenue growth. Roughly 30% of the S&amp;P 500&#8217;s revenues come from overseas, leaving the index moderately exposed to this trend, according to Goldman Sachs' Chief U.S. Equity Strategist David Kostin, as <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/3-trends-watch-earnings-season-034306522.html">cited </a>by Business Insider.
During the upcoming earnings season, Kostin predicts fewer companies will beat consensus sales forecasts. However, let&#8217;s dig deeper to see if that will be a hindrance for ETFs carrying stocks of those companies in their portfolios.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">ETFs Tracking S&amp;P 500 Index In A Strong Dollar Environment</h3>
According to another Business Insider <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/currencies/dollar-rally-earnings-season-inflation-rate-cuts-mike-wilson-2025-1?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com">report</a>, Morgan Stanley&#8217;s Chief U.S. Equity Strategist Mike Wilson said that a soaring dollar increases earnings dispersion. In other words, companies less dependent on foreign sales are better positioned to weather currency storms, while those with high overseas exposure, especially large caps, might struggle.
Wilson noted that thanks to the lower exposure of the S&amp;P 500 Index to foreign revenue exposure, the dollar&#8217;s impact on index-level earnings is relatively muted. However, sector-specific outcomes will vary, he said. Sectors with the highest foreign exposure are, according to Wilson, household products, food and beverage, and technology hardware. For ETFs tracking the broad S&amp;P 500 index, although diversification can mitigate the impact of a strong dollar, the exposure to large-cap S&amp;P 500 stocks, especially tech stocks, can be a risk to performance.
For instance, companies like Apple and Microsoft generate significant overseas revenue and could face headwinds. On the flip side, domestic-focused sectors such as financials, utilities, and healthcare, with more U.S.-centric revenue streams, might see steadier performance. However, holdings of ETFs like SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust, Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF, and iShares Core S&amp;P 500 ETF lean more toward the Technology sector.
This earnings season, the dollar might steal some headlines, but for well-diversified ETF holders, it's just another piece of the broader market puzzle.

Strong Dollar's Ripple Effect: What It Means For S&P 500 ETFs

The Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NASDAQ">VOO</a>) fell 0.7% to $543.62 Tuesday as investors digested <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/01/42850914/us-services-sector-growth-tops-forecasts-but-price-pressures-tariff-concerns-cloud-outlook">economic data</a> and rising inflationary pressures.
What Happened: December&#8217;s Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for U.S. services climbed to 54.1%, signaling a robust end to 2024. While this underscored resilience in the services sector, a surge in price pressures and looming tariff concerns spooked markets.
The PMI's Prices Index jumped to 64.4%, its highest since mid-2023, reigniting fears of persistent inflation. Businesses reported rising input costs, labor constraints, and uncertainty over impending tariffs from the Trump administration. 
This inflationary backdrop sent Treasury yields soaring, with the 30-year yield reaching 4.90%, its highest in two months, dragging equities lower. Despite optimism over service-sector expansion, inflation risks and trade policy fears cast a shadow over the broader market Tuesday.

What's Going On With Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO)?

<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/intel" rel="noreferrer noopener">U.S. Chips Act beneficiary</a> Intel Corp&#8217;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/INTC#NASDAQ">INTC</a>) crisis appears to be worse than expected, as companies ranging from Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) and smaller rivals, erstwhile partners like Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) rush to nab Intel&#8217;s market share that is critical for its profitability.
Intel stock plunged 58% in the last 12 months as it failed to capitalize on the budding market of new kinds of computing and new applications for chips, the Wall Street Journal <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/tech/intel-microchip-competitors-challenges-562a42e3" rel="noreferrer noopener">cited</a> Doug O&#8217;Laughlin of SemiAnalysis.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMD#NASDAQ">AMD</a>) surpassed Intel&#8217;s data center chip revenue in the last quarter, marking a reversal from 2022 when Intel&#8217;s data center revenue was three times that of AMD.

AMD emerged as a nemesis, snatching Intel&#8217;s moat in the advanced general-purpose chips business, dubbed central processing units.
Another stroke of bad luck for Intel was its failure to tap the burgeoning data centers chip market or the graphics processing unit market, which catapulted Nvidia to the trillion-dollar valuation. 
Notably, Intel still has about 75% of the market for CPUs that go into data centers which sharply contradicts the company&#8217;s share of revenue from data center chips.
Many companies, including Amazon.Com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), Microsoft, and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOG#NASDAQ">GOOG</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) Google remains aggressively invested in building out new data centers are bypassing Intel&#8217;s proprietary architecture chips, dubbed x86, and are instead using a combination of an Arm Holdings plc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARM#NASDAQ">ARM</a>)&nbsp;architecture and their in-house chip designs.
ARM-based chips are increasingly taking center stage in Nvidia&#8217;s current-generation AI systems. ARM-based laptops running Windows struck gold in 2024 courtesy of Microsoft&#8217;s collaboration with ARM. This prompting has led to other companies porting their software and creating tools that allow programs to run on the new laptops.
Intel also lost out on the PC gaming market to AMD. A spokeswoman for Intel told the WSJ the company is focused on its product portfolio, manufacturing, and foundry capabilities.
Intel is currently seeking a permanent chief after the chipmaker fired veteran CEO&nbsp;Pat Gelsinger&nbsp;in December. His turnaround efforts, including competing with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSM#NYSE">TSM</a>), failed to impress the board.
Let us take a look at some positive aspects of Intel. The decades that developers dedicated to software for Intel&#8217;s chips bear testimony to its moat despite shrinking market share, potentially limiting its dwindling market share. 
Analysts estimate Intel&#8217;s 2024 revenue at ~$55 billion versus Nvidia&#8217;s ~$60 billion. Intel still commands a leading market share for desktop and notebook CPUs, WSJ cites Mercury Research.
Recently, AMD tapped Intel to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/10/41357485/intel-partners-with-amd-to-counter-arms-rising-dominance-in-computing" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">develop the x86 ecosystem</a>. Intel also boasts a chipmaking deal with Amazon by leveraging its 18A technology. In 2025, Intel targets the launch of a new AI chip dubbed Falcon Shores.
Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs&#8217;&nbsp;Toshiya Hari and other Wall Street analysts&nbsp;flagged&nbsp;competitive and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/media/25/01/42762874/broadcom-thrives-with-114-stock-surge-in-ai-boom-while-intel-faces-steep-decline" rel="noreferrer noopener">margin challenges for Intel</a>.

Dwindling demand and declining market share in China have raised concerns, particularly during the critical holiday sales season. Nonetheless, Apple holds a consensus ‘buy&#8217; rating from 30 analysts, with a price target of $245.27 per share, according to&nbsp;<a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Benzinga Pro</a>. It shows that Apple is still a strong long-term player.
Coming to Nvidia, the chipmaker is riding the artificial intelligence wave, with its stock climbing more than 180% in 2024. The firm&#8217;s market cap reached a high of $3.29 trillion, an amount that threatens to close the gap with the $3.79 trillion of Apple. At this rate, if Nvidia does not lose momentum in 2025, one might speculate that it could once again challenge Apple as the most valuable company in the world.
Microsoft also continues to thrive on many fronts. Its near-monopoly on in-office software with Office and Dynamics 365, coupled with the dominance of LinkedIn, has cemented its position. The company&#8217;s cloud-based solutions, including Azure, OpenAI, and GitHub, remain key growth drivers.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Vanguard's Stellar Performance and Outlook</h3>
Vanguard has been a top performer, with the market price growing almost 25% in 2024, outpacing the S&amp;P 500&#8217;s 23% gain. This impressive performance reflects its focus on high-growth companies, particularly in technology.
While the S&amp;P 500 has typically been averaging an annual return of around 10% since 1965, according to Berkshire Hathaway&nbsp;data, Vanguard's targeted strategy on growth stocks within the index gives it an edge. The Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF offers investors a cost-efficient way to tap into the U.S. equity market&#8217;s largest and most stable companies.

Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia Push Vanguard's Low-Cost S&P 500 ETF Higher

Pfizer hosted a discussion with sell-side analysts to provide an update on one of the vaccine pipeline items &#8211; a second-generation Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) vaccine effort in Phase 2.
Goldman Sachs analyst Chris Shibutani maintained a Buy rating on Pfizer, Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PFE#NYSE">PFE</a>) with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/PFE/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $33</a>.
Shibutani recalled that Pfizer had reported negative results from a Phase 3 study for a first-generation asset in March 2022, where the primary endpoint was unmet.

Still, results did include signals from secondary endpoints that suggested reduced disease severity.
Pfizer has since been exploring updated formulations (reducing the 3-dose regimen to 2 doses), including a version in Phase 2. Immunogenicity data are anticipated in 2025, with potential for advancement into Phase 3 by the end of 2025.
For a potential Phase 3 study, Shibutani noted the objective would be to discern the potential to reduce the severity of a C. diff infection (CDI) instead of aiming to reduce the risk and prevention of disease.
Pfizer estimates ~500k infections annually in the U.S., and no vaccine options currently available. Acknowledging that there is an unmet need The analyst acknowledged that there is an unmet need and said the data thus far suggests a potential basis for a path forward for the program in the context of comments from R&amp;D leadership during the discussion Shibutani hosted with investors.
The emphasis on the forward will be on programs with the most significant potential for economic returns. The analyst expects that investor enthusiasm will likely remain relatively subdued, especially in the context of uncertainties deriving from health policy dynamics relating to vaccines, that are an overhang to sentiment.
Shibutani does not currently include revenue estimates for a C. diff vaccine in his model and looks to monitor data updates and decisions regarding plans for this program to guide his forecasts in the future.
Separately, the analyst flagged Pfizer management&#8217;s mention of the fourth generation 25-valent pneumococcal vaccine (PCV), which management affirms continues to progress in Phase 2.
Shibutani recalled that Pfizer had previously commented that the immunogenicity data from Phase 1 were encouraging, as highlighted by the improved immunogenicity observed for serotype 3.
Pfizer is currently in a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study for its second-generation Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) vaccine, PF-07831694. This vaccine targets C. diff toxins A and B, which cause Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).&nbsp;&nbsp;
Their goal for the second generation is to build off the 1st generation&#8217;s efficacy and duration by developing a more potent, more durable formulation, allowing for a 2-dose regiment (instead of 3-dose), resulting in higher and faster series completion.
After evaluating adjuvants in formulation for their next-generation candidates, Pfizer noted they can increase the strength or magnitude of the immune response, potentially resulting in lower doses.
Pfizer advanced 1 of the three updated 2nd-generation candidates to Phase 2 based on Phase 1/2 safety and immunogenicity data.
The Phase 2 trial endpoints will evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of the 2-dose regimen. Trial data is expected in 2025, with a potential Phase 3 start in late 2025, pending positive results.
Pfizer in Phase 2 is the furthest along of the C. diff vaccine assets. Idorsia Pharmaceuticals initiated Phase 1 for their competing C. diff asset in July. Vaxxilon and Matrivax Research &amp; Development Corporation both have preclinical assets. GSK Plc&#8217;s (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GSK#NYSE">GSK</a>) CDI vaccine completed a Phase 1 trial in 2022 but is no longer listed as a pipeline asset.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Pfizer&nbsp;stock has dropped over 11.5% year-to-date. Investors can gain exposure to the stock through SPDR S&amp;P 500 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) and Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>).

From record-breaking flows to innovative fund launches, Bank of America detailed $1.6 trillion in ETF inflows this year in a new note. The global ETF market has grown to a staggering $15.1 trillion in assets under management. 
Additionally, ETF launches hit an all-time high of 1,485 in 2024, and institutional ownership continues to surge, cementing ETFs as the cornerstone of modern investment strategies. 
Here's how the ETF ecosystem is evolving — and why it matters.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Record Year for ETF Growth</h3>
The numbers speak for themselves: over the last five years, the global ETF market has grown at a robust 19% annualized rate, amassing more than $15 trillion in assets under management. 
In total, 15,866 ETFs have been created since 1993, with 2024 alone contributing 1,485 of those — a record for both active and U.S.-listed ETFs.
Institutional investors, retail traders and even cash-strapped mutual funds are gravitating toward ETFs for their liquidity, tax efficiency and cost advantages.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The Rise of Active ETFs: A Balancing Act</h3>
While ETFs have historically been dominated by passive strategies, active ETFs are making their presence known. Active funds accounted for 18% of total inflows in 2024, signaling a growing appetite for alpha strategies.
Still, passive funds remain the kingpin, representing over 50% of equity fund assets by AUM. 
In fact, 93% of ETFs track some type of index, but the allure of active management is pushing innovation. 
Investors seeking more active strategies in passive funds are also driving mutual fund-to-ETF conversions. According to Bank of America, this trend is likely to accelerate in the coming years as mutual funds struggle to remain relevant.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">SPY vs. VOO: New ETF Champion in the Making?</h3>
The SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) remains the largest and most actively traded ETF since its inception in 1993. But its throne is being challenged.
Vanguard S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VOO#NYSE">VOO</a>) has a 6.5-basis-point lower expense ratio compared to SPY and could potentially surpass it in AUM by 2026.
In 2024, VOO registered more than six times the inflows obtained by SPY.

ETF Market Sets Records In 2024 As Inflows Reach $1.6 Trillion: 7 Funds Leading Charge

As markets brace for the Federal Reserve's final policy meeting of the year, scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Goldman Sachs highlighted 20 exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that have historically shown outsized <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/federal-reserve">moves around Fed decision days</a>.
While a 25-basis-point rate cut to a target range of 4.25%-4.50% is widely anticipated, the market's focus is on the Fed's forward guidance, particularly the Summary of Economic Projections (SEP) and the updated &#8220;dot plot.&#8221;
Following December's expected cut, Goldman Sachs projects a more measured pace of easing next year, forecasting rate cuts in March, June, and September, with the terminal rate seen at 3.50%-3.75%.

U.S. equity markets have displayed strong short-term gains during Fed meeting weeks in 2024. 
Investors employing a simple strategy of buying the S&amp;P 500 index at market close before a Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) announcement and selling at close the following day have captured median returns of 1.1% across the past seven meetings.
Yet those extending the trade horizon to 15 sessions post-Fed meeting have enjoyed significantly larger average gains of 3.29%, more than double the short-term returns. Notably, every Fed meeting this year has resulted in positive 15-day returns.
"We observe that U.S. banking ETFs, such as SPDR S&amp;P Bank ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KBE#NYSE">KBE</a>) and SPDR S&amp;P Regional Banking ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KRE#NYSE">KRE</a>), have seen unusually large moves on FOMC days since 2022" Goldman analysts wrote in a recent note.
For bond-focused investors, the report highlights consistent post-meeting gains in high-yield and investment-grade ETFs like iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HYG#NYSE">HYG</a>) and iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LQD#NYSE">LQD</a>).
Meanwhile, energy-focused ETFs, such as the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>), have seen negative reactions.
