Donald Trump wasted no time in his return to the White House, signing a flurry of executive orders, and, most notably, declaring <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/01/43086509/trump-unleashes-executive-orders-on-border-security-oil-drilling-domestic-manufacturing-in-first-acts-as-president">a national energy emergency. </a>
During his inauguration speech on Monday, he reaffirmed his commitment to fossil fuels, pledging to &#8220;drill, baby, drill&#8221; and revoke the electric vehicle mandate. 
&#8220;The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices. And that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will drill, baby, drill,&#8221; Trump said. 
Trump also announced his intent to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord, calling wind turbines "ugly" and reiterating his policy against renewable energy expansion. His focus is clear: expand drilling, restore the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and flood global markets with U.S. oil and gas.
Oil markets are already reacting, but will this push for American energy dominance send crude prices soaring or lead to an oversupply crisis?
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What Happens To Oil Prices?</h3>
The immediate impact of Trump's pro-drilling stance on oil markets has been strong, with traders already reassessing their outlooks on crude prices. 
The U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude – as tracked by the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) – tumbled by 2.6% during morning trading on Tuesday, heading for a third straight session of losses. 
"Mr. Trump's full-throated yell for U.S. producers to: ‘Drill, baby, drill!' is not new. And it's perfectly logical that prices should fall at the prospect of increased supply. But producers are highly price-sensitive, and there comes a time/price where it's uneconomical to raise production," commented David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation.
&#8220;Day 1 executive orders in these areas are expected to be followed by further action in the coming days and weeks, with Trump set to test the limits of presidential authority to pursue an agenda that aims to unravel Biden's energy and climate policies,&#8221; wrote Energy Intelligence in a note Tuesday. 
David Goldman, head of trading at Novion said Trump's policy shift "is unlikely to have any significant impact in the short term but may have bearish repercussions in the long term."
Goldman highlighted that a sharp increase in U.S. production, particularly if global demand slows due to the ongoing transition to renewable energy, could weigh on prices. "Increased production without sufficient export infrastructure risks bottlenecks, while protectionist trade measures could stifle international cooperation and reduce market efficiency."
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Energy Stocks See A Small Lift</h3>
Oil and gas stocks saw modest gains in premarket trading Tuesday as investors weighed the potential for increased drilling activity. 
The Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>), which tracks major oil companies, was up 0.1% during premarket trading, while the SPDR S&amp;P Oil &amp; Gas Exploration &amp; Production ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XOP#NYSE">XOP</a>) saw similar gains.

On Friday, January 17, U.S. markets closed higher, with the S&amp;P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq marking their strongest weekly gains in months. Optimism over economic resilience and potential Fed rate cuts, alongside robust bank earnings and upbeat homebuilding and manufacturing data, outweighed concerns about Trump&#8217;s policies and inflation risks.
According to economic data, U.S. industrial production rose by 0.9% in December, surpassing expectations of 0.3%. Housing starts jumped 15.8% to 1.499 million units annually, while building permits dipped 0.7% to 1.483 million.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors ended higher on Friday, led by consumer discretionary, information technology, and communication services gains. In contrast, healthcare and real estate stocks closed lower, diverging from the broader market trend.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.78% and closed at 43,487.83, the S&amp;P 500 closed higher by 1.00% at 5,996.66, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.51% to finish at 19,630.20.

Donald Trump pledged to waste no time reshaping U.S. policy after he was officially sworn in as the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/01/43085323/trump-sworn-in-as-47th-president-declares-golden-age-of-america-begins-right-now">47th president of the U.S.</a>
Within minutes of his swearing-in ceremony, Trump in a speech from the U.S. Capitol rotunda, promised to roll out a barrage of executive actions targeting energy, immigration, inflation, social policies and trade.
While his long-promised tariffs are expected to remain on hold — for now — Trump is reportedly expected to sign anywhere from 10 to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/01/20/us/trump-executive-orders">100 </a>executive orders in his first 24 hours, marking a dramatic start to his second term.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Energy Emergency, Oil Declines</h3>
Trump is moving swiftly to boost U.S. fossil fuel production, with <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/01/20/us/trump-executive-orders?">The New York Times</a> reporting that he will declare a national energy emergency, even though President Joe Biden <a href="https://www.eenews.net/articles/what-bidens-oil-record-means-for-the-industrys-future/">presided</a> over a record boom <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/23/10/35240230/us-is-producing-more-oil-under-biden-than-at-any-point-under-the-trump-administration">in domestic oil production</a>. 
Analysts expect only marginal increases in oil production under Trump, despite his <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities/24/11/42164230/amid-trumps-drill-baby-drill-pledge-strategist-predicts-us-oil-supply-will-see-marginal-increase-does-the-world-need-that-much-oil">&#8220;drill baby drill&#8221; stance</a>.
Trump is expected to significantly roll back environmental regulations and focus on Alaska's vast oil and gas reserves, a resource the administration sees as critical to reducing energy costs.
The order will focus on Alaska's vast natural resources and is expected to eliminate restrictions on domestic drilling, with the administration arguing that increased production will help lower gasoline and utility costs. 
The same order will end the electric vehicle mandate and lift regulations on consumer appliances such as dishwashers and stoves.
Market reaction has been immediate—crude oil futures, tracked by the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>), fell 1.6% by 10:30 a.m. ET, as traders digested the implications of higher U.S. output.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">All-Hands Inflation Strategy</h3>
The Trump administration will also launch a government-wide initiative to combat inflation, though specific details remain scarce. 
A White House official told Reuters that the effort will include "decisive actions" to lower costs for American consumers, potentially tied to energy production and supply chain deregulation.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Immigration Crackdown, Border Emergency, Diversity Programs Scrapped</h3>
Trump is also taking an aggressive stance on immigration and other social policies. 
During his rhetoric-filled speech, declared illegal immigration a national emergency, paving the way for a series of executive actions. An incoming administration official told the outlet that Trump will block all asylum claims at the U.S.-Mexico border, deploy additional troops, and accelerate border wall construction.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, also confirmed that Trump will designate criminal cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. It&#8217;s a move that could escalate tensions with Mexico, considering 
Perhaps the most legally contentious order will be Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship. 
Reuters also reported that the administration will move forward with an executive action that seeks to deny U.S. citizenship to children born on American soil to undocumented parents. The measure is expected to face immediate constitutional challenges, as the 14th Amendment explicitly guarantees birthright citizenship.
&#8220;The federal government will not recognize automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens born in the United States. We are also going to enhance vetting and screening of illegal aliens,&#8221; the official said to Reuters.
The president will also sign an executive order eliminating all federal diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, reversing initiatives that expanded under the Biden administration. 
The move extends to hiring practices, government contracts, and workplace training, marking a significant rollback of affirmative action efforts within federal agencies.
Trump is also expected to issue a proclamation declaring that, under federal law, there are only two biological sexes—male and female.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tariffs On Hold, For Now</h3>
Despite fiery campaign rhetoric on trade, Trump will not impose new tariffs on his first day in office, a temporary relief for markets that had been bracing for sweeping levies. 
Instead, he is expected to sign a memorandum directing federal agencies to review U.S. trade policies, particularly in relation to China, Mexico, and Canada, according to an exclusive <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/trump-to-lay-out-trade-visionbut-wont-impose-new-tariffs-yet-b9c8378d">Wall Street Journal</a> report. 
The outlet confirmed that Trump's team has prepared a broad directive on trade policy but has opted to delay immediate tariff action. 
Market odds on Trump announcing tariffs before Thursday have dropped to as low as 16%, according to CFTC-regulated prediction platform Kalshi, the lowest level since betting began in December.

While tariffs are on the back burner, speculation is growing over whether Trump will move on cryptocurrency regulation today. 
Betting markets on Kalshi now price in a 56% chance that a crypto-related executive order will be issued within the first 24 hours. 
With Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) trading above $105,000, investors are closely watching whether Trump will push forward with a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, a concept he floated on the campaign trail. 
The move would signal a pro-crypto shift in U.S. policy, potentially impacting regulatory frameworks for digital assets.

Oil prices extended their decline on Friday after Israel's Security Cabinet approved a ceasefire deal with Hamas, signaling a potential end in the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/gaza">15-month-long Gaza conflict.</a>
West Texas Intermediate crude futures – as tracked by the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) – edged down 0.6% to $78.38 a barrel as of 8:40 a.m. ET, following a sharp 2.7% drop on Thursday. 
Brent crude also eased 0.5% to $81 per barrel. Meanwhile, U.S. energy stocks, as tracked by the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLE#NYSE">XLE</a>), edged 0.1% higher in the premarket, eyeing their eight straight day of gains. 
In a note Friday, <a href="https://www.energyintel.com/00000194-713c-d625-ab9e-f3bdb2db0000">Energy Intelligence</a> said oil prices fell amid expectations that Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militia may halt attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, thus provoking less disruptions to global trade and oil flows. 
Israeli President Isaac Herzog hailed the Security Cabinet's approval of the ceasefire deal as a "vital step," emphasizing the moral and national duty of bringing home Israeli hostages.

In a statement on X , Herzog acknowledged the emotional weight of the agreement, particularly for families whose loved ones may not return in the initial stages.

Herzog's statement, released just before Shabbat, also carried a message of hope and national healing, urging Israelis to see this moment as an opportunity to rebuild and shape their shared future. 
&#8220;I harbor no illusions — the deal will bring with it great challenges and painful, agonizing moments that we will need to overcome and face together. With all my heart, I embrace the families of the hostages, especially those who know that their loved ones will not return in the first stage. We must bring everyone back. Everyone! We will not rest or relent until this happens.&#8221;
While the ceasefire agreement must still pass a full Cabinet vote, Herzog's strong endorsement signals growing political momentum behind the deal.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke separately with U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, thanking them for their roles in advancing the deal.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Red Sea Shipping Risks Keep Oil Markets Unsettled</h3>
Despite the ceasefire, S&amp;P Global Ratings <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/commodity-insights/en/news-research/latest-news/shipping/011625-shipping-risks-via-red-sea-remain-elevated-despite-israel-hamas-ceasefire">indicated</a> that most shipping firms are still maintaining alternative routes away from the Red Sea due to ongoing security concerns. 
A senior oil trading executive told the rating agency that &#8220;the risk of Houthi rebel attacks on ships remains significant,&#8221; as the group is backed by Iran.
This continued disruption could sustain pressure on oil prices, given the strategic importance of the Red Sea for global energy trade. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, is a key chokepoint for oil shipments from the Middle East to Europe and North America.
Analysts at Capital Economics say the ceasefire's impact on global inflation and monetary policy may be overstated.
While easing geopolitical tensions could lower energy and shipping costs, the broader disinflationary effects might not be strong enough to significantly influence central banks&#8217; rate decisions.
According to Upstream, if the ceasefire holds, market focus could shift toward the U.S. and Russia. Yet, doubts persist over how durable the peace agreement will be and what it means for long-term stability in the region.

According to economic data, U.S. retail sales grew by 0.4% in December, down from a revised 0.8% in November and below the 0.6% forecast. Initial jobless claims rose by 14,000 to 217,000 for the week ending January 11, exceeding the 210,000 estimate.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors ended higher, led by utilities, real estate, and industrials, while information technology and communication services lagged, closing in the red.

On Wednesday, January 15, U.S. markets closed significantly higher, with major indexes recording their largest gains in over two months. Asia Up, Europe Markets Mixed; Dollar Steadies - Global Markets Today While US Slept

Oil prices surged on Wednesday, with West Texas Intermediate light crude rising about 4% to above $80 per barrel for the first time <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities">since mid-July 2024. </a>
This rally comes against a backdrop of intensifying concerns over global supply disruptions and the announcement of a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/25/01/43017362/israel-hamas-agree-to-ceasefire-deal-including-hostage-release-biden-confirms">ceasefire in Gaza</a> after a devastating 15-month war.
Crude prices — as tracked by the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) — haven&#8217;t seen a single-day surge of this magnitude since early October 2024.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">What's Driving Oil Higher?</h1>
Despite positive geopolitical developments in the Middle East with the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, traders remain focused on tightening supply fundamentals.
According to Reuters, the ceasefire agreement, brokered by U.S., Egyptian and Qatari diplomats, outlines an Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza and a prisoner exchange.
While this marks a significant step toward de-escalation in the Middle East, oil markets seem more concerned with a series of factors that could constrain global crude flows in the near term.
The Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday a sharper-than-expected decline in U.S. crude inventories for the week ending Jan. 10, further fueling the market&#8217;s bullish sentiment.
Data showed U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 1.961 million barrels last week, exceeding market expectations of a 1.6 million-barrel draw. 
This marked the eighth consecutive weekly decline, pushing U.S. crude commercial stockpiles — excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve — to their lowest levels since April 2022.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">The Impact Of U.S. Sanctions On Russia, Iran</h1>
On Jan. 10, the Biden administration announced sweeping new sanctions targeting Russia. The measures include restrictions on two major Russian producers, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, as well as over 160 tankers carrying oil from Russia, Iran, and Venezuela.
The sanctions also complicate ship insurance arrangements, further disrupting logistics for these nations. 
The International Energy Agency, in its latest Oil Market Report released Wednesday, highlighted the potential ramifications of these sanctions, stating:
"Benchmark crude oil prices rallied in early January as U.S. sanctions on Iran and Russia intensified and freezing temperatures swept across large parts of the Northern Hemisphere."
Speculation is mounting that the incoming U.S. administration under President-elect Donald Trump will adopt an even tougher stance on Iran, potentially exacerbating supply constraints. 
"While it is too early to fully quantify the potential impact from these new measures, some operators have reportedly already started to pull back from Iranian and Russian oil," the IEA said.
Freezing temperatures across major oil-consuming regions in the Northern Hemisphere have further tightened energy markets, boosting demand for heating fuels. This seasonal surge in consumption, combined with shrinking inventories and sanctions-related disruptions, leaves the oil market vulnerable to additional supply shocks.
"If decreases in supply from weather impacts, sanctions, or other developments become substantial, oil stocks can quickly be drawn to meet operational requirements in the near term," the IEA stated.
Earlier this week, Goldman Sachs commodity analyst Daan Struyven warned that in a scenario of combined disruptions in Russian and Iranian oil flows, crude prices could rally up <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/01/42965857/oil-could-hit-90-goldman-sachs-says-trump-may-not-ease-sanctions-on-russia">to $90 a barrel.</a>

Oil Prices Break $80, Reach 6-Month Highs Despite Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Deal: Why Is Crude Rallying?

The International Energy Agency has revised its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/oil" rel="noreferrer noopener">global oil demand</a> outlook slightly for 2025, projecting growth of 1.05 million barrels per day, down from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-market-report-december-2024" rel="noreferrer noopener">the previously estimated</a> 1.1 million barrels daily.
The new forecast anticipates global demand will average 104 million barrels daily, reflecting a combination of improving economic conditions and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.iea.org/reports/oil-market-report-january-2025" rel="noreferrer noopener">lower fuel prices</a>.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, oil demand rebounded strongly, increasing by 1.5 million barrels daily—the highest growth since late 2023.

The IEA attributed this surge to reduced fuel prices, colder weather in northern regions, and heightened petrochemical activity in the U.S. However, while 2025 demand growth will likely surpass 2024, it will fall short of the over 2 million barrels per day increase seen in 2023.
OPEC projects a higher demand growth of <a target="_blank" href="https://momr.opec.org/pdf-download/" rel="noreferrer noopener">1.45 million barrels daily</a>.
<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/commodities/24/11/41899890/opec-cuts-2024-oil-demand-forecast-for-fourth-straight-month-amid-chinas-economic-slowdown" rel="noreferrer noopener">Disappointing data from</a> major Asian markets, including China, India, and African countries, prompted OPEC to revise its oil demand growth forecasts for 2024 several times.
Still, OPEC&#8217;s estimates looked more optimistic than those of Wall Street banks and Saudi Aramco.
China saw a significant uptick in oil demand in November, driven by rising gasoil consumption and falling diesel prices, which hit their lowest in nearly three years.
The IEA highlighted that signs of stabilization in China&#8217;s property market could support further recovery in oil demand. Projections suggest China will add 220,000 barrels per day to its oil consumption in 2025, compared to a 180,000-barrel daily increase in 2024, the Wall Street Journal <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/business/energy-oil/iea-trims-oil-demand-outlook-but-still-expects-stronger-growth-this-year-a972c71b?mod=business_lead_pos4" rel="noreferrer noopener">reports</a>.
Recent U.S. sanctions targeting Russia&#8217;s energy sector and shipping networks and measures aimed at Iran&#8217;s shadow fleet could disrupt global oil supplies. These actions may compel major buyers like China and India to seek alternative sources.
Meanwhile, Brent crude prices hover around $80 per barrel, and U.S. West Texas Intermediate trades near $77 per barrel, reflecting market concerns over tightened supply, the WSJ reports.
Despite geopolitical pressures, global oil supply rose modestly in December 2024, supported by increased production in Nigeria and Libya. For 2025, the IEA forecasts supply growth of 1.8 million barrels daily, led by non-OPEC+ countries such as the U.S., Brazil, and Canada. However, the agency cautioned that sanctions or weather-related disruptions could rapidly draw down existing oil stocks.

Defense stocks are moving slightly lower Wednesday after Israel and Hamas verbally agreed on a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43011383/israel-gaza-ceasefire-hostage-exchange">ceasefire in Gaza</a>.
What Happened: Hamas accepted a draft agreement on Wednesday for a ceasefire in Gaza that includes the release of several hostages, according to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43011383/israel-gaza-ceasefire-hostage-exchange">multiple reports</a>. 
The agreement follows months of negotiations and paves the way for a potential end to the ongoing war in the Middle East that began about 15 months ago. The verbal agreement also comes just days before President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s inauguration. 
&#8220;We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!&#8221; Trump&nbsp;said in a post on Truth Social.
The deal reportedly includes a six-week ceasefire and the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. Israel still needs to ratify the deal, but a vote is expected by Thursday.

Defense stocks including Lockheed Martin Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>), Northrop Grumman Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NOC#NYSE">NOC</a>) and RTX Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RTX#NYSE">RTX</a>) moved lower as the ceasefire reports surfaced despite a strong session from broader indices. The Global X Funds Global X Defense Tech ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHLD#NYSE">SHLD</a>) and the SPDR S&amp;P Aerospace &amp; Defense ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XAR#NYSE">XAR</a>) also pulled back from highs on the news. 
At the time of writing, Lockheed Martin shares were down about 0.7%, while Northrop Grumman and RTX shares were down about 0.8%. It&#8217;s worth noting that the SPDR S&amp;P 500 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) was up 1.77% at last check.
Defense stocks have benefitted from the ongoing war in the Middle East with the Global X Funds Defense ETF having gained more than 35% over the past year, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. Defense stocks tend to rally in periods of elevated conflict given their heavy reliance on government contracts. 
Energy stocks including BP P.L.C (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BP#NYSE">BP</a>), Chevron Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVX#NYSE">CVX</a>) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COP#NYSE">COP</a>) also pulled back slightly on the ceasefire news, but bounced back pretty quickly. 
The United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) hit new 52-week highs on Wednesday on continued momentum from last week after the U.S. announced its most extensive sanctions on Russian oil exports to date.

Wall Street staged a strong rebound on Wednesday, as mixed inflation data bolstered investor confidence in the Federal Reserve's continuation of easing cycle in 2025, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/01/43001512/inflation-rises-to-29-in-december-core-slows-yet-rising-energy-costs-put-feds-target-at-risk">easing recent market anxieties.</a>
The headline Consumer Price Index rose 2.9% year-over-year in December, up from November&#8217;s 2.7% and aligning with economist forecasts. On a monthly basis, headline inflation increased by 0.4%, up from November&#8217;s 0.3%, marking the sharpest monthly rise since March 2024.
The inflation report strengthened market expectations for Fed rate cuts in 2025. The probability of a rate cut by June climbed to 63%, up from 55% the previous day, with December futures now pricing in a 50% chance of two rate cuts.
The S&amp;P 500 advanced 1.5% by midday trading in New York, and the Dow Jones followed suit with a similar gain, both supported by strength in financial stocks. The Nasdaq 100 outperformed, rising 1.9%, while small-cap stocks posted a 1.7% gain.
Key financial giants, including JPMorgan Chase &amp; Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/JPM#NYSE">JPM</a>), Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/C#NYSE">C</a>), Goldman Sachs Group Inc. In the bond market, yields on the 2-year Treasury note, which is highly sensitive to interest rate expectations, fell 9 basis points to 4.28%, while 30-year yields dropped 8 basis points to 4.89%. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) gained 1.3% as bond prices rose.
The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY), as tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), remained flat, with dollar strength against the euro offset by weakness versus the yen.
West Texas Intermediate — as tracked by the United States Oil Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/USO#NYSE">USO</a>) — rallied 2%, hitting $80 a barrel during the day amid a stronger-than-expected drop in commercial crude stocks last week.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) jumped 2.6%, nearing $99,000, buoyed by optimism surrounding potential Fed rate cuts.
