<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44102599/canadian-pm-justin-trudeau-retaliates-with-25-tariffs-on-us-goods-amid-escalating-trade-war">Affected countries</a> announced retaliatory measures, further dampening investor sentiment.
China announced retaliatory tariffs of up to 15% on certain U.S. products, including chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared that Canada would impose a 25% tariff on U.S. goods. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Mexico would respond with tariffs and other measures, to be announced on Sunday.
The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note fell to 4.13% on Tuesday, its lowest level since October 2024. Markets are now pricing in three quarter-point rate cuts by the Federal Reserve in 2025, according to data from CME FedWatch. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) slipped 0.58%. 
Natural gas futures rose more than 8% on Tuesday, above $4.45/MMBtu, the highest since December 2022. Stockpiles remain below the five-year average due to earlier extreme cold in the U.S. while LNG export flows have reached record levels. Asia And Europe Markets Decline; Oil Falls As OPEC+ Confirms Output Hike - Global Markets Today While US Slept

United States Natural Gas Fund LP (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UNG#NYSE">UNG</a>) shares are trading higher Monday driven by record flows to liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plants and stronger-than-expected demand forecasts over <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44072469/asia-markets-mixed-europe-advances-us-dollar-retreats-as-peace-talks-gain-traction-gold-rallies-global-markets-today-while-us-slept">the next two weeks.</a>
What To Know: According to Reuters, traders attributed the price movement to reports confirming that Germany is not pursuing negotiations with Russia to revive the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. 
Front-month gas futures for April delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange increased by 27.6 cents or 7.2%, to $4.110 per million British thermal units (mmBtu). This rebound comes after the contract closed at its lowest point since Feb. 14. 
Despite record U.S. gas output and mild weather forecasts through mid-March, concerns about supply levels and ongoing European demand supported prices.
U.S. gas production in the Lower 48 states rose to 105.8 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in early March, up from February&#8217;s record 104.7 bcfd, according to financial data firm LSEG. Feedgas deliveries to the eight major U.S. LNG export terminals also increased, averaging 15.8 bcfd so far in March compared to 15.6 bcfd in February. This increase is partly due to new capacity at Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG export plant in Louisiana.
U.S. natural gas inventories remain about 12% below the five-year average after heavy withdrawals during January's extreme cold weather. With mild weather ahead, demand is expected to decline from 119.3 bcfd this week to 114.7 bcfd next week, although these projections remain higher than previous forecasts.
Globally, gas prices remain elevated, with natural gas trading around $14 per mmBtu at the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) in Europe and the Japan Korea Marker (JKM) in Asia. 
The U.S. became the world's largest LNG exporter in 2023, surpassing Australia and Qatar, potentially driven by increased global demand amid supply disruptions and sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In the U.S. and Canada, 10-year government bond yields surged in mid-January due to strong economic data, inflation uncertainty, and <a href="https://www.edwardjones.ca/ca-en/market-news-insights/stock-market-news/stock-market-weekly-update">expectations </a>that the Fed would limit rate cuts in 2025, according to Edward Jones. Wall Street Retreats As Inflation Worries Mount, 5 ETFs That Stood Strong Last Week

On Friday, February 21, U.S. markets closed sharply lower as major indexes extended their selloff amid disappointing economic data, new tariff threats, and softening consumer demand. The S&amp;P 500 and Russell 2000 posted their largest drops since mid-December, while the Dow suffered its steepest Friday-to-Friday plunge since mid-October, reflecting heightened market uncertainty and investor caution.
According to economic data, the University of Michigan&#8217;s consumer sentiment dropped 10% to 64.7 in January, with a five-year inflation outlook of 3.5%—the highest since 1995. Existing home sales fell 4.9% to 4.08 million, while February&#8217;s flash PMIs revealed a sharp services decline, fueling private sector concerns.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors fell with IT, consumer discretionary, and industrials down—while consumer staples defied the trend and closed higher.
