Defense stocks and ETFs have continued to rally after hours, as tensions continued to escalate, with California-based Kratos Defense &amp; Security Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KTOS#NASDAQ">KTOS</a>), which provides defense engineering and communications solutions, rising 0.60% after hours.
Others, such as Israel&#8217;s Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ESLT#NASDAQ">ESLT</a>) and RTX Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RTX#NYSE">RTX</a>), have rallied by 1.12%% and 0.60%, respectively, in after-hours trading.

Asian markets opened higher on Wednesday, with Japan&#8217;s Benchmark Nikkei 225 up 0.71% in early morning trade, at 38,808, with companies focused on the domestic market leading the way.
Brent crude oil futures are down 0.04%, trading at 76.40 a barrel, marking a steep 19% ascent since the beginning of this month, after hitting a 52-week low of $58.4 a barrel in early May.
The&nbsp;U.S. Dollar Index&nbsp;(DXY) is holding steady at 98.724, down 0.10%, even as volatilities and geopolitical risks continue to weigh.
Investors on Wednesday will be closely watching the outcome of the FOMC meeting, followed by a press conference by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Investors will also be keenly eyeing the Initial Jobless Claims, Housing Starts, and Building Permit reports during the day.

Trump Demands Iran's 'Unconditional Surrender' — Stock Futures Remain Steady, Defense Shares Trade Higher In After-Hours Trading

If you&#8217;re an ETF investor who&#8217;s been along for the Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NASDAQ">PLTR</a>) hype ride, Tuesday was likely a derailment. 
Even after a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/05/45208000/palantir-q1-earnings-revenue-beat-eps-in-line-customer-count-up-39-company-raises-guidance-citing-surging-and-ferocious-growth">blowout first quarter earnings report</a> and a sparkling forecast, the stock plummeted more than 14% after hours and almost 12% on Tuesday morning, taking a few <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs">PLTR-heavy ETFs</a> down with it.
The culprit? A valuation that may be pushing even the most elastic of market imaginations.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">ETF Fallout: When One Stock Sneezes</h1>
Three ETFs with significant Palantir exposure found themselves nursing bruises after Tuesday&#8217;s swoon:
Roundhill PLTR WeeklyPay ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTW#BATS">PLTW</a>): Meant to surf Palantir&#8217;s waves, this thematic ETF dropped a painful 18% on Tuesday. 
First Trust US Equity Opportunities ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FPX#NYSE">FPX</a>): Down close to 3%, this ETF took the jolt, too. With Palantir as its top holding with a 10% weightage, even the wider growth exposure couldn&#8217;t soften the blow.
Global X Defense Tech ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHLD#NYSE">SHLD</a>): Also off about 2.1%, even with Palantir included in a strong slate of defense tech plays. The ETF thesis is still intact — defense budgets are rising globally — but valuation concerns outweighed tailwinds, at least for the day.
Tejas Dessai, head of research at Global X ETFs, is bullish on the theme overall, saying that we are &#8220;in the early innings of a generational investment cycle in global defense.&#8221; 
With the U.S. committing $1 trillion annually to defense and geopolitical tensions not so much looking like fireworks, but rather like bonfires, the industry&#8217;s runway appears lengthy, he noted. Palantir is positioned alone in this environment. From battlefield logistics powered by AI to intelligence analysis, it&#8217;s at the nexus of Silicon Valley ingenuity and Pentagon-sized paychecks. That&#8217;s precisely the reason SHLD and its owners are hanging on, even though the ride&#8217;s got turbulence.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">The Paradox of Powerhouse Performance and Price Panic</h1>
Let&#8217;s get the scorecard straight: Palantir&#8217;s first quarter revenue of $883.86 million beat expectations, rising 39% year-over-year. U.S. commercial revenue surged 71%, customer base grew and the company now projects full-year revenues of as much as $3.90 billion — all while having $5.4 billion in the bank. Not bad for the alleged &#8220;Messi of AI,&#8221; as Wedbush&#8217;s Dan Ives called it.

But the market wasn&#8217;t having it. Why? Perhaps because the stock is listed at a P/E (TTM) ratio above 560x — a figure that would make even the most optimistic tech bulls wince.
Even with Palantir&#8217;s assurances of positive GAAP operating income each quarter this year, worries that a lot of future growth is already priced in are casting long shadows. As Jefferies&#8217; Brent Thill said, solid fundamentals are one thing, but a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/05/45216263/pltr-stock-falls-9-19-in-premarket-trading-but-this-analyst-remains-bullish-predicts-1-trillion-valuation-in-3-years">65x multiple to revenue is another creature altogether</a>.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Valuation Sky High, but Sector&#8217;s Not Coming Down</h1>
Palantir&#8217;s fundamentals are good, its prospects are bright, and its contribution to AI and defense cannot be replicated — but the price is where the market throws up its hands. ETFs such as PLTW, FPX and SHLD, with their various degrees of Palantir exposure, provide a means to bet on the tale — just don&#8217;t anticipate them being resistant to sentiment shocks.

Palantir Focused ETFs Spark Investor Interest: Here's Why

RBC Capital Markets analyst Ken Herbert cut the price forecast for General Dynamics Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GD#NYSE">GD</a>) to $280 from $290, while <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/GD/analyst-ratings">reiterating an Sector Perform rating</a>.
On Wednesday, the company reported revenue growth of 14.3% year over year to $13.338 billion, beating the consensus of $12.77 billion and EPS of $4.15 (up 14% <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43305515/general-dynamics-beats-q4-expectations-with-144-billion-contract-backlog">Y/Y), above the consensus of $4.10</a>.
In its conference call, the company said it expects a 2025 effective tax rate of 17.5%. The CEO said Gulfstream deliveries will be around 150 aircraft in 2025.
Also, the company expects 2025 total revenue of $50.3 billion and company-wide&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EPS to be around $14.80.</a>
The analyst writes that he remains optimistic about the 2025 Gulfstream outlook, however, muted free cash flow and limited margin expansion in defense, coupled with heightened uncertainty in the sector, remains a matter of concern.
In particular, Herbert recognized the execution challenges at Gulfstream but acknowledge the strong business jet demand, reflected in a 1x book-to-bill ratio for fourth-quarter 2024.
Following the company's revised 2025 guidance, the analyst now projects 150 deliveries in 2025 and 160 in 2026.
Additionally, aircraft services could offer upside potential with low double-digit growth, adds the analyst.
Apart from this, the analyst says that the submarine supply chain continues to face significant constraints, leading to persistent margin underperformance.
While revenue growth remains strong, Herbert remain cautious about the pace of margin improvement.
For 2026, the analyst expects overall defense portfolio margins to remain flat at approximately 9.5%, consistent with 2024 levels.
Also, the analyst believes that Trump 2.0 can pose greater risk for the GD defense portfolio outside of Marine.

ETFs like SPDR S&amp;P Aerospace &amp; Defense ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XAR#NYSE">XAR</a>), iShares U.S. Aerospace &amp; Defense ETF (BATS:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ITA#BATS">ITA</a>), and Global X Funds Global X Defense Tech ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHLD#NYSE">SHLD</a>) were slightly down as the defense sector lost its appeal to investors.
Nonetheless, the pullback was short-lived, as all three ETFs opened higher and retained momentum on Thursday. Moreover, neither the dip nor the rally was sharp. There can be many possibilities behind this. For starters, the fundamental strength of defense stocks are undeniable. 
Secondly, the market might still be taking time to process that a war of such scale can end so abruptly. Thirdly, another major longstanding war that also draws resources from the U.S. is ongoing between Russia and Ukraine. Thus, despite a short-term withdrawal of a few investors from defense ETFs, the longer-term story seems constructive.
Moreover, the ceasefire agreement does not mean that contracts will stop coming for defense companies. Raytheon Technologies (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RTX#NYSE">RTX</a>), one of the largest holdings of all the aforementioned ETFs, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43034421/whats-going-on-with-rtx-corporation-stock-today">announced a $529 million contract</a> to supply a Patriot air&nbsp;and missile defense system to the Netherlands.

The SPDR S&amp;P Aerospace &amp; Defense ETF&#8217;s exposure to commercial aerospace alongside defense provides some insulation against geopolitical shifts. 
Meanwhile, Global X Funds Global X Defense Tech ETF&#8217;s beta of 0.4% means it is less reactive to market volatility.
The War Effect On Defense Stocks
Historically, periods of conflict have been a boon for defense stocks. The Middle East war saw heightened government spending on military contracts, propelling the Global X Defense Tech ETF to a 35% gain over the past year, according to <a href="https://pro.benzinga.com/dashboard">Benzinga Pro</a>. 
Companies in this sector see increased demand during conflicts due to the surge in need for defense systems, technology and equipment.
While the ceasefire signals a de-escalation in the Middle East conflict, defense stocks and ETFs are unlikely to lose their long-term optimism. Geopolitical risks remain a persistent concern, and governments worldwide continue to prioritize defense budgets.

Defense stocks are moving slightly lower Wednesday after Israel and Hamas verbally agreed on a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43011383/israel-gaza-ceasefire-hostage-exchange">ceasefire in Gaza</a>.
What Happened: Hamas accepted a draft agreement on Wednesday for a ceasefire in Gaza that includes the release of several hostages, according to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43011383/israel-gaza-ceasefire-hostage-exchange">multiple reports</a>. 
The agreement follows months of negotiations and paves the way for a potential end to the ongoing war in the Middle East that began about 15 months ago. The verbal agreement also comes just days before President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s inauguration. 
&#8220;We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you!&#8221; Trump&nbsp;said in a post on Truth Social.
The deal reportedly includes a six-week ceasefire and the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. Israel still needs to ratify the deal, but a vote is expected by Thursday.

The Global X Funds Global X Defense Tech ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SHLD#NYSE">SHLD</a>) and the SPDR S&amp;P Aerospace &amp; Defense ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XAR#NYSE">XAR</a>) also pulled back from highs on the news. 
At the time of writing, Lockheed Martin shares were down about 0.7%, while Northrop Grumman and RTX shares were down about 0.8%. It&#8217;s worth noting that the SPDR S&amp;P 500 (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) was up 1.77% at last check.
Defense stocks have benefitted from the ongoing war in the Middle East with the Global X Funds Defense ETF having gained more than 35% over the past year, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. Defense stocks tend to rally in periods of elevated conflict given their heavy reliance on government contracts.

Defense Stocks Fall On Gaza Ceasefire While Broader Market Rallies: What's Going On?

On Monday, Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>) revealed the launch of the seventh Lockheed Martin-designed and built Global Positioning System (GPS) III satellite, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/12/n42522602/seventh-lockheed-martin-built-gps-iii-satellite-launches-supporting-next-gen-constellation-moderni" rel="noreferrer noopener">GPS III SV07, at 7:52 p.m. ET</a>.
The GPS III SV07 spacecraft, built at Lockheed Martin&#8217;s Littleton, Colorado, facility, was transported by ground to its Florida launch site after its usual military aircraft was reassigned for hurricane relief efforts.
The satellite was launched into orbit 12,550 miles above Earth from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
Carefully planning the 2,337-mile route and tracking Hurricane Milton, the spacecraft completed a six-day journey, avoiding severe weather and arriving for final launch preparations.
The team has successfully completed signal acquisition of GPS III SV07, and the spacecraft is now under operational control at Lockheed Martin&#8217;s Denver Launch &amp; Checkout Operations Center until it is officially accepted into the current 31-satellite operational GPS constellation.
Launched on an accelerated timeline, GPS III SV07 joins the Space Force&#8217;s efforts to modernize the GPS constellation, following the launch of GPS III SV06 in 2023.
Malik Musawwir, vice president of Navigation Systems at Lockheed Martin said, &#8220;We supported our customer&#8217;s vision for an accelerated launch of this GPS satellite, ultimately helping them achieve quick-turn operational readiness.&#8221;
&#8220;Time is of the essence for national security missions, and we quickly delivered this critical capability for the Space Force to support rapid demand for secure, advanced positioning, navigation, and timing signals.&#8221;

Mission Accomplished: Lockheed Martin's GPS III SV07 Successfully Deployed

RTX Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RTX#NYSE">RTX</a>) disclosed the successful live-firing of its High-Energy Laser Weapon System (HELWS) with the British Army, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/12/n42430737/rtxs-raytheon-high-energy-laser-weapon-system-fired-by-british-army-for-first-time" rel="noreferrer noopener">effectively targeting moving aerial threats</a>.
This experiment marks the British Army&#8217;s first test of a high-energy laser weapon mounted on an armored vehicle, with soldiers trained on the weapon&#8217;s targeting and tracking technologies.
Raytheon&#8217;s HELWS is the first laser weapon integrated and fired from a land vehicle in the UK, part of a collaborative program between Raytheon UK and Team Hersa, the joint LDEW initiative involving Defence and Science Laboratory and Defence Equipment and Support.
The trial, held at a military range in Wales, marked the latest phase of the U.K. Ministry of Defence&#8217;s Land Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) demonstrator program.

Rod McLean, vice president and general manager of the Air Mobility and Maritime Missions line of business at Lockheed Martin, said, &#8220;The C-130J is known as the world&#8217;s workhorse, not just for its large global presence, but also for its international supply chain partners including the single source provider of empennages — Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited in&nbsp;Hyderabad.&#8221;
