With no more presidential debates planned between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the attention turns to their vice presidential running mates Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who are the candidates for the Democratic and Republican parties, respectively, in<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election"> the 2024 election.</a>
The two face off in a debate Tuesday, Oct. 1. Here's a look at how to watch, what could be the big topics and who bettors are predicting will win.
How to Watch the VP Debate: Vance and Walz face off on Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. ET <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/09/40844701/trump-harris-might-not-debate-again-but-their-running-mates-will-what-voters-should-know-about-w">in a debate hosted by </a>CBS News, a unit of Paramount Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARA#NASDAQ">PARA</a>)(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARAA#NASDAQ">PARAA</a>).
Norah O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan will serve as the moderators for the debate, which takes place in New York without a live audience.
CBS News begins coverage of the debate at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and affiliate networks. The debate and coverage can also be streamed on Paramount+, CBSNews.com and YouTube. Paramount will allow simulcasting by other networks.
The debate will be 90 minutes in length with two planned four-minute commercial breaks. The candidates are not allowed to interact with their campaign teams during the commercial breaks.

Debate Rules: The candidates will not give opening statements for the vice-presidential debate on Tuesday. The candidates will be given questions with two minutes to answer and then given two minutes to respond. One minute will be allowed for rebuttals, as well.
Walz will stand behind the lectern on the left side of the stage with Vance at the podium on the right side of the stage.
Candidates will not be allowed to have pre-written notes on the stage with them.
One major difference from the recent presidential debate between Harris and Trump will be microphones for the candidates that are not muted. The moderators will have the ability to turn off the microphones if warranted by CBS News.
The winner of a coin toss, Vance will go second in Tuesday's closing statements. Each candidate will have two minutes for their closing statement to end the debate.
Key Items to Watch: With less than 40 days until the Nov. 5 presidential election, Tuesday's debate could prove as a final test for undecided voters and voters who are less convinced of backing Harris or Trump.
While Harris and Trump won't be on stage, their names are likely to get brought up a lot.
In fact, one of the top betting <a href="https://polymarket.com/markets/politics/vp-debate">odds </a>from prediction market Polymarket is on how many times the candidates will utter the names Trump and Harris.

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) founder <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/jeff-bezos">Jeff Bezos</a> may not be running the e-commerce company he founded anymore, but his business philosophies and principles helped lay the groundwork to create one of the largest companies in the world today.
Tips on how to conduct meetings for increased productivity could be one of the ways that Bezos and Amazon have been successful over the years. 
What Happened:&nbsp;Bezos is one of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/24/08/40300456/jeff-bezos-may-be-worth-186b-but-he-once-paid-600k-a-month-in-rent-to-a-legendary-musician">richest people in the world</a> today and a large portion of his wealth came from the increased valuation at Amazon over the years, a company that survived the dot-com bubble and has diversified into new sectors like streaming and the cloud. 
The wealth increase was driven by an increase in the valuation of Amazon over the years, the company&nbsp;Bezos led for 27 years before stepping down as&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/22/11/29691021/walking-away-on-top-if-you-invested-1-000-in-amazon-when-bezos-stepped-down-heres-how-much-youd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CEO in July 2021.</a>
One of the reasons Amazon might&nbsp;be so successful could have been Bezos' leadership and business practices.
A company such as Amazon likely held many meetings between executives, employees and potential partners. One practice Bezos did during meetings with employees was to speak last, something his current girlfriend Lauren Sánchez recently said was one of the best business lessons she's learned from him.
"I hold a lot of meetings, and I would talk first in a meeting, and (Bezos) goes, ‘No, no, no. You're the boss. You talk last. You let everyone else talk, so that they don't get swayed by your opinion,'" Sánchez <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/lauren-sanchez-interview-jeff-bezos-11674587199" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said </a>in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Sánchez said living with Bezos has been like "having a master class every day."
"What he's taught me a lot about is management."

Why It's Important:&nbsp;Bezos&nbsp;previously shared that changing practices for meetings helped with the success of Amazon and could have been "the smartest thing we ever did" at the company.
Bezos shared in 2018 that Amazon did away with PowerPoint presentations, choosing instead to open meetings with a 30-minute silent reading period. This gave employees time to read through a detailed memo that covered the discussion topics prior to the start of the meeting.
Similar to the Bezos&#8217;s speaking last, these meetings would see employees share reactions to the memo before the CEO would share his own thoughts.
Bezos said the silent reading helped create "the context for what will then be a good discussion."
The former Amazon CEO said the silent reading period also ensured that attendees read through the notes rather than ignoring emails.
"Executives will bluff their way through the meeting as if they've read the memo, because we're busy, and so you've got to actually carve out the time for the memo to get read."
Bezos also recommended&nbsp;keeping meetings as short as possible once the silent reading period is done. Sanchez said Bezos told her the key was to keep meetings under an hour if possible.
CNBC&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/14/jeff-bezos-this-is-the-smartest-thing-we-ever-did-at-amazon.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">reported&nbsp;</a>that other business leaders such as&nbsp;Twitter&nbsp;co-founder and former CEO&nbsp;Jack Dorsey&nbsp;also shared a similar belief in starting meetings with a silent reading period to go over the meeting agenda.
"This practice makes time for everyone to get on the same page, allows us to work from many locations, and gets to truth/critical thinking faster," Dorsey&nbsp;said.
The business advice from Bezos could be worth it for bosses and companies to consider with Amazon shares up 945% in the past 10 years and the company now one of the largest in the world.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">From Daisies To Dank: The Bloom Of Autumn Brands</h3>
<a href="https://autumnbrands.com/">Autumn Brands</a> started as a cut flower business growing Gerber daisies, but as competition from South America increased, the team realized they needed to pivot. "My partner Hans had owned this property for over 30 years, and the cut flower industry was struggling," said Shelton. "We saw the legalization of cannabis as an opportunity to transition. So we flipped the operation from cut flowers to cannabis."
But it wasn't just a matter of switching crops.&nbsp;

Shelton and her team took it a step further by deciding to grow <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/california-cannabis">cannabis </a>without the use of any pesticides &#8211; organic or otherwise. "Hans came to me in 2017 and said, ‘I want to stop spraying pesticides,' and I said, ‘I love this idea, but how are we going to do it?'" she told Benzinga. 
After some research and a hefty investment in beneficial insects, the team made the transition. "We threw away tens of thousands of plants until the ladybugs colonized the greenhouses," she said, "and we've been 100% pesticide-free ever since."

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Pesticide-Free Cannabis: A Market Niche Ready To Grow</h3>
Shelton said the market for pesticide-free cannabis is only going to grow as consumers become more educated about what's in their products. 
"People didn't realize they were smoking cannabis with pesticides before legalization, but now they're starting to understand the importance of clean cannabis," she said. "Recent <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/07/39584632/mold-and-yeast-sixth-marijuana-recall-this-year-hits-colorado-cannabis-dispensaries">recalls </a>over pesticide contamination have raised awareness, and we're seeing a movement toward more pesticide-free products."
But scaling a pesticide-free operation remains a challenge. "It's more <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/24/09/40754415/transforming-a-5-000-year-old-craft-how-weed-companies-use-data-to-make-hash-without-losing-its-a">artisanal</a>," Shelton said. "We've had to create this perfect ecosystem in our greenhouses where beneficial insects can thrive, but it's not easy to replicate at scale. That's why we're still searching for partners who can match our standards."

"One of the hardest things was learning how to combat pests like mites without using chemicals," Shelton said. "We had to figure out new ways to manage it without compromising the quality of our product."
Despite these challenges, Shelton emphasized the long-term benefits of going pesticide-free. "We've saved money by not having to worry about recalls or heavy metal contamination. It also creates a perfect ecosystem in the greenhouse where beneficial insects thrive, reducing the need for constant pest management."

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Expanding Beyond California: What's Next?</h3>
Autumn Brands operates on five and a half acres of greenhouse space, producing flowers, pre-rolls and wellness products such as pain-relieving elixirs. The company also offers self-care products focused on intimate wellness, tapping into a growing market segment.
Though deeply rooted in California, Shelton said Autumn Brands is looking to expand beyond the state through <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/cannabis/deals">licensing deals</a> for their products. "The flower side is a little more challenging because it is not easy to find operators who can grow 100% pesticide-free at scale," she said. Nevertheless, the company sees significant opportunities for its products in other states.
"We're also building out a hemp line focused on minor cannabinoids like <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/biotech/23/10/35300227/from-cbn-cbg-to-thcv-consumer-centric-brands-embrace-rare-cannabinoids-for-differentiation">CBG and CBN</a>, which are challenging to incorporate into cannabis products due to the small quantities present," Shelton explained.&nbsp;

"There's been a huge disconnect between government and the industry, and I think that's one of the biggest lessons other states can learn from <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/california-cannabis">California</a>," she said. "We've gone through over-regulation, high taxes, and oversupply, which have all contributed to the challenges we face today."
Looking to expand into new markets, Shelton said her focus is on states that have learned from California's missteps. "We're looking at <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/23/11/35662129/are-traditional-cannabis-licensing-models-obsolete-how-reverse-licensing-can-help">new state markets</a>. The basketball-focused podcast &#8220;All the Smoke,&#8221; which interviewed Kobe Bryant several weeks before his untimely 2020 death, has since exploded in popularity featuring celebs and sports icons. On Monday, the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzThwqnQJDY">podcast</a> took it up a notch with its release of a sit-down interview with Vice President <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/kamala-harris">Kamala Harris</a>.
Podcast hosts and former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson talked with Harris about policy issues, the economy, upcoming elections, social justice and more. Naturally, cannabis legalization also came up in the 47-minute conversation.
The Washington Post called nabbing Harris for an interview a &#8220;coup for a podcast with popularity that has remained largely confined to sports and entertainment.&#8221; That said, &#8220;All the Smoke&#8217;s&#8221; YouTube channel has more than a million subscribers, so the feeling was likely mutual.

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">It's Time To Legalize</h1>
Harris said the time has come to legalize marijuana, essentially marking the first time the vice president has publicly discussed her position on cannabis legalization since becoming the Democratic <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/07/39874209/joe-biden-drops-out-what-would-happen-with-cannabis-legalization-under-kamala-harris-or-donald-t">presidential nominee</a> in late July.
"I just feel strongly, people should not be going to jail for smoking weed. And we know historically what that has meant and who has gone to jail," Harris told Barnes and Jackson.
Harris was apparently referring to the racial disparity in cannabis-possession arrests. On average, Black people are 3.6 times more likely to be arrested on marijuana charges, according to ACLU data.
"Second, I just think we have come to a point where we have to understand that we need to legalize it and stop criminalizing this behavior," she said. "And actually, this is not a new position for me. I have felt for a long time we need to legalize. So that's where I am on that."
The episode came out just one day before the first and probably only debate between the vice-presidential nominees, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and former president Donald Trump's VP  pick, Sen. <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/jd-vance/?itid=lk_inline_manual_7" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">JD Vance</a> of Ohio.
<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Trump's Remarks On Harris&#8217; Racial Identity</h1>
Barnes mentioned Donald Trump&#8217;s snide comments on Harris&#8217; racial identity and asked how she felt about &#8220;people questioning the fabric of who you are.&#8221;
Harris, whose mother is of Indian descent and whose father is Jamaican, seemed unfazed.
&#8220;I'm really clear about who I am and if anybody else is not, they need to go through their own level of therapy, that's not my issue,&#8221; she said.
Meanwhile, Harris is ahead of Trump by three percentage points according to Monday&#8217;s<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/us/elections/polls-president.html"> New York Times's average of national polls</a> that show the race is still tight in the seven key battleground states.

On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a bill allowing licensed cannabis lounges to sell food and host ticketed events, essentially giving birth to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/08/40638186/in-amsterdam-style-california-senate-moves-to-legalize-cannabis-farmers-markets-and-cafes">Amsterdam-style cannabis cafes </a>
These venues will allow patrons to enjoy marijuana while eating food in the same establishment—a major shift for California&#8217;s cannabis scene, SFGate <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/cannabis/article/newsom-signs-celebrity-backed-cannabis-cafe-bill-19804371.php">reported.</a>

The state&#8217;s existing laws permit individuals to consume cannabis inside licensed lounges, but these businesses have been prohibited from offering food.
With the new legislation, customers will no longer need to step out of the lounge in search of a meal or snack, creating a more integrated and enjoyable experience.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Celebrities Weigh In </h3>
Several high-profile names have supported this effort, including actors Whoopi Goldberg, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/09/40844998/woody-harrelson-pushes-gov-newsom-to-approve-cannabis-cafes-in-california">Woody Harrelson</a>, and comedian Bill Maher. 
"It makes no sense that we don't let cannabis lounges sell food. Right now, California makes it harder to get high at a lounge and eat a sandwich than to drive a car, but guess which one is more dangerous?" Maher said In a public statement before the bill was signed.
Both Goldberg and Harrelson, who have their own cannabis ventures in California, stand to benefit from the law, which will no doubt boost the cannabis hospitality industry.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Local Control Still A Hurdle</h3>
While this new law represents a step forward, it comes with a catch: local governments will have the final say on whether or not cannabis cafes can open in their jurisdictions.
In many parts of the state, cannabis lounges remain banned, limiting where these new social consumption spaces can operate. 
At the moment, cities like San Francisco, West Hollywood and Palm Springs are home to more than a dozen lounges, but it remains unclear how quickly other cities will embrace the change.
Ellen Komp, deputy director of California&#8217;s National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) stated that while the law takes effect on January 1, local governments may require additional regulations before lounges can begin serving food.

What To Know: Ives released a new note to clients late Monday, reiterating Tesla with an Outperform rating and price target of $300 ahead of the EV company&#8217;s long-awaited &#8220;We, Robot&#8221; event set for Oct. 10.
&#8220;We believe Robotaxi Day will be seminal and historical day for Musk and Tesla and marks a new chapter of growth around autonomous, FSD, and AI future at Tesla,&#8221; Ives said in a note to clients. 
The Wedbush analyst anticipated several &#8220;game changing&#8221; updates and details surrounding Tesla&#8217;s robotaxi platform, rumored to be called the &#8220;Cybercab.&#8221; Ives laid out expectations for updates on scaling the Cybercab, overall costs per mile, a potential ride-share app and a first-gen demonstration.
Given the anticipation surrounding the event, Ives expects CEO Elon Musk to address near-term investor concerns related to the robotaxi and explain the company&#8217;s longer-term vision for the technology.

Tesla is also likely to focus on recent breakthroughs with its full self-driving (FSD) software and <a href="http://benzinga.com/topic/ai">AI</a> initiatives. Tesla&#8217;s FSD has now logged over 1.5 billion miles in Tesla&#8217;s datacenters and the company&#8217;s latest FSD release has been deemed a significant upgrade over its predecessor, Ives said.
FSD 13 is expected to be released before the end of the year. The Wedbush analyst will be watching for any updates on the next release, which is expected to introduce new features like autonomous parking and reversing capabilities and offer a 6x improvement in miles-per-intervention. 
Ives also noted Tesla&#8217;s <a href="http://benzinga.com/topic/optimus">Optimus</a> bot continues to pique interest. Tesla is currently targeting sales of its humanoid robots by 2026. The analyst anticipates updates on Optimus development at next week&#8217;s robotaxi event.
&#8220;We believe this is a pivotal time for Tesla as the company prepares to release its years of Robotaxi R&amp;D shadowed behind the curtains, while Musk &amp; Co. lay out the company's vision for the future,&#8221; Ives said.
&#8220;We remain confident in the Tesla story which has proven successful many times over the years, and we look forward to this long-awaited event as the next evolution of transportation unfolds.&#8221;

Tesla Analyst Sets The Stage For 'Game Changing' Robotaxi Event, Anticipates 'Seminal And Historical Day For Musk And Tesla'

Baxter International Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BAX#NYSE">BAX</a>). has shut down its largest manufacturing facility following significant damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The hurricane, which hit the Southeast of the U.S. with deadly force, triggered power outages and flooding across the region.
Baxter's North Cove plant, located in Marion, North Carolina, is the nation's biggest producer of intravenous and peritoneal dialysis solutions. The company has stated that this disruption will likely have a negative effect on its financial performance.
On Monday, Baxter's shares initially fell as much as 4.1%, but later settled at a 2.3% decline, trading at $38.01 by midday in New York. Baxter&#8217;s stock ended up closing right below $38 a share Monday. Wood pointed to a 2017 hurricane, which impacted Baxter&#8217;s capacity in Puerto Rico, as a precedent for Hurricane Helene. &#8220;To sense check, if we assumed a $140mn impact in BAX's Q4 (given Q3 is essentially over), that implies about 4 days worth of shutdown for the entire US Chronic Therapies and Infusion Therapies businesses,&#8221; Wood wrote in the note. &#8220;Though in reality more given this is unlikely the only facility where PD and IV solutions are produced and BAX can presumably shift capacity around.&#8221;
Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, struck Florida on Thursday with winds reaching 140 miles per hour and moved northward. The storm caused severe flooding, including a levee breach that sent water into Baxter&#8217;s facility. The flooding damaged stock and raw materials, according to a company spokesperson.
It remains unclear if the plant closure will affect medical procedures in the U.S., though Wells Fargo analysts noted that other companies, such as ICU Medical, Fresenius Kabi and B Braun SE, may be able to compensate for Baxter's supply loss.
Baxter is working closely with local officials to bring the North Cove plant back online. Fortunately, none of the facility's 2,500 employees were injured. However, the company is still verifying the safety of its workforce as communication in the area has been hampered by outages in cellular service. Apparel company Nike Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NKE#NYSE">NKE</a>) will report first-quarter financial results Tuesday on the heels of recently naming a new CEO. Shares could be volatile after<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings"> the earnings report.</a>
Earnings Estimates: Analysts expect the company to report first-quarter revenue of $11.64 billion, down from $12.94 billion in last year's first quarter, according to data<a href="https://bzresearch.myclickfunnels.com/benzinga-pro-content-webinar-registration/?utm_source=BZprocontent093024&amp;t=be2bearmibe3na1"> from Benzinga Pro.</a>
The company has missed revenue estimates from analysts in three of the last four quarters but beaten estimates in seven of the last 10 quarters overall.
Analysts expect the company to report first-quarter earnings per share of 52 cents, down from 94 cents in last year's first quarter. The company has beaten analyst estimates for earnings per share in four straight quarters and nine of the last 10 quarters overall.

What Analysts Are Saying: With the announcement that Elliot Hill is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/40948580/nike-stock-jumps-9-after-the-bell-ceo-set-to-retire">returning to the company</a> and will be the new CEO, analysts have been raising their price targets.
Jefferies analyst Randal Konik maintained a Hold rating and raised the price target for Nike from $80 to $85 ahead of the earnings report.
"We believe investor expectations for F1Q are fairly low, as foot/web traffic data has remained soft and competitors continue to gain share," Konik said.
The analyst said there's "not much to get excited about yet" for Nike, but the incoming CEO will change things.
Hill's impact may not be felt until fiscal 2026, the analyst cautioned.
"Therefore, NKE shares are in ‘no man's land' and likely remain range-bound for a number of quarters."
Hill re-joining Nike is a positive development, the analyst added, with the change potentially improving culture and the company's wholesale channel.
"However, we are wary of ongoing challenges he will face."
One of the biggest catalysts for Nike is coming with an analyst day in November. The analyst said the analyst day, the company's first in seven years, could be pushed out with the change.
In the earnings report, Nike is likely to talk about the new Air Max and could also highlight upcoming products, the analyst added.
"While Nike is beginning a new multi-year product innovation cycle in 2H24, we foresee headwinds as the company works to control its current product assortment and wholesale partnerships."
Stifel analyst Jim Duffy recently maintained a Hold rating with a $79 price target.
The analyst said bringing back a long-time Nike insider should be viewed as a positive.
&#8220;Recent underperformance is a direct result of losing focus on what has made Nike great for so many years,&#8221; Duffy said. &#8220;Under Mr. Hill&#8217;s leadership, we hope to see a revitalization of the Nike culture and a renaissance in innovation and design.&#8221;
The analyst warns that changing CEOs can reset financial forecasts, trigger periods of product revitalization and potentially lead to additional management changes.
Key Items to Watch: While all the talk about Nike will be on the incoming CEO, the company likely won't share much new information about this leadership change before the move happens in mid-October.
Instead, investors will likely focus on the top- and bottom-line numbers with recent quarters showing strength in earnings per share and weakness in revenue versus Street estimates.
One of the biggest focuses from investors and analysts outside of the new CEO will likely be on the regional results. The fourth-quarter results showed strength in China and weakness in North America.
NKE Price Action: Nike stock was down 1.16% to $88.40 at market close on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $70.75 to $123.39. Nike stock is down 17% year-to-date in 2024.

What Else: Trump Media &amp; Technology announced after Monday's closing bell that its custom-built content delivery network (CDN) is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/09/g41104106/trump-media-expands-tv-streaming-delivery-network-to-multi-site-operation">now operating</a> from multiple geographic sites across the country.
