The Fund invests in financial instruments that ProShare Advisors believes, in combination, should produce daily returns consistent with the Daily Target. The Index is designed to measure the performance of 100 of the largest Nasdaq-listed non-financial companies. Mobile-focused online firearms retailer GrabAGun announced Monday a SPAC merger to go public and named Donald Trump Jr. as an<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump-jr"> investor and advisor.</a>
The SPAC Merger: GrabAGun announced a SPAC merger valuing the company at $150 million with Colombier Acquisition Corp II (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CLBR#NYSE">CLBR</a>). The deal will add to the<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/guns"> list of gun stocks </a>and related businesses that are public.
Colombier Acquisition Corp is led by Omeed Malik, who is described as a "distinguished entrepreneur and investor with extensive experience in digital marketplace transactions" in the deal announcement.
After the merger, the company will <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250106730864/en/">trade </a>as GrabAGun Digital Holdings Inc with the ticker "PEW" on the NYSE. The merger is expected to close in summer of 2025.
Current Colombier Acquisition shareholders are expected to <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1995413/000121390025000951/ea022679401ex99-1_colom2.htm">own </a>68% of the new company depending on shareholder redemptions at the time of the merger.
The company said the funds from the SPAC merger will help with future growth initiatives, seeking consolidation opportunities and general corporate purposes.

About GrabAGun: Competing in the $25 billion firearms and ammunition segment, GrabAGun uses a mobile and online platform to cater to a younger audience and create ease-of-use for consumers to secure guns.
The company was founded in 2010 and said it operates under regulatory and legal requirements of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
GrabAGun partners with multiple leading gun manufacturers and allows users to pick hich gun they want to buy through the e-commerce platform and then pick it up at a secure location to complete the purchase.

When public, the company will among gun-related stocks such as Olin Corporation (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/OLN#NYSE">OLN</a>), Axon Enterprise (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AXON#NASDAQ">AXON</a>), AMMO Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/POWW#NASDAQ">POWW</a>), American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AOUT#NASDAQ">AOUT</a>) and Academy Sports and Outdoors (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ASO#NASDAQ">ASO</a>).

Trump Jr. Added To Company: On Monday, it was announced that Trump is a "newly appointed advisor" to the company. He will also be an investor in the company after the merger is closed.

Trump highlighted the company's focus on the Second Amendment and made a comparison to companies like Public Square (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PSQ#NYSE">PSQ</a>), Rumble Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RUM#NASDAQ">RUM</a>) and Trump Media &amp; Technology Group (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DJT#NASDAQ">DJT</a>) and their support of the First Amendment.
"In an age where our right to bear arms is under constant attack from anti-gun politicians and woke corporations, GrabAGun has developed a powerful, scalable platform that offers unmatched selection and services to Americans who wish to legally buy and own a firearm."
Trump said GrabAGun will "revolutionize the industry" and drive "significant growth" ahead.
The GrabAGun and Colombier Acquisition Corp II merger is the latest to use the Trump name as a selling point to investors. Trump was recently added to the board of PSQ Holdings, a company that went public via SPAC merger with Colombier Acquisition Corp I.
Trump was also <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42215044/unusual-machines-appoints-donald-trump-jr-to-its-advisory-board-whats-going-on">added as an advisor </a>to Unusual Machines (AMEX:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UMAC#AMEX">UMAC</a>), a drone company.
Both PSQH and UMAC shares soared by more than 100% on news of the association with Trump. 
Financials and Growth: GrabAGun had revenue of $98 million in 2023, up 14% year-over-year. The company reported that trailing 12-month revenue is $99.5 million, up 9.2% year-over-year.
The company has trailing 12-month EBITDA of $5.3 million. The company says it has positive cash flow.
GrabAGun CEO Marc Nemati said the SPAC merger will help the company scale operations and expand its reach with several growth opportunities ahead. 
"In an industry that has historically been slow to adopt modern technology, we have developed a scalable solution that delivers a best-in-class buying experience to customers nationwide," Nemati said.
The company said gun purchases by millennials and Gen Z consumers are a key growth area. Gun ownership for people ages 18 to 35 was up 57% from 2014 to 2023 compared to growth of 2% for the 35-50 demographic and a drop of 11% for the 50-64 group, according to GrabAGun. 
With a mobile and online experience that it said is more attractive to younger consumers, the company said it believes it can take market share from other gun retailers.
CLBR Price Action: Colombier Acquisition shares are down 7.55% to $10.90 Monday morning. Shares traded higher premarket on news of the deal.

CNBC Halftime Report Final Trades: Organon & Co., Howmet Aerospace, ProShares Short QQQ

The debate about whether members of the U.S. Congress should be allowed to buy and sell stocks often gains steam when questionable trades are <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/08/33880886/senators-perfect-timing-russian-war-linked-biotech-buy-raises-eyebrows-amid-trading-ban-debate">made and shared publicly.</a>
A leading member of Congress continued his trend of recent years betting against the stock market performance.
 What Happened: No stranger to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/22/11/29572688/us-senator-sitting-on-finance-committee-bets-against-stock-market-heres-who-and-how">betting against the performance</a> of the stock market, Sen. Thomas Carper (D-Del.) cashed out from one of his bearish positions and entered a new one.
"Senator Carper is short the market through an ETTF called $HDGE and therefore short America," a tweet from @congresstrading <a href="https://twitter.com/congresstrading/status/1720165015850721612?t=4r388LU6lA1UFSl7KAFkYw&amp;s=19">said</a>.
The filing shared showed Carper sold his positions held in the ProShares Short QQQ ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PSQ#NYSE">PSQ</a>) on Oct. 20. The transaction totaled sales of $3,000 to $45,000 according to the filing.
Along with the sale, Carper also disclosed purchasing up to $45,000 in AdvisorShares Ranger Equity Bear ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HDGE#NYSE">HDGE</a>).
According to Unusual Whales, Carper <a href="https://twitter.com/unusual_whales/status/1720483649819439220">shorted </a>the stock market four other times with a profit each time. The recent sale of ProShares Short QQQ came with around a 6% profit according to a tweet.
The transaction followed similar trades by Carper in both HDGE and PSH previously. In November 2022, Benzinga shared Carper had <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/broad-u-s-equity-etfs/23/08/33530405/us-senator-on-finance-committee-places-bet-on-market-downturn-a-look-at-his-bearish-et">bought up to $110,000 in the AdvisorShares Ranger Equity Bear ETF</a>.
The Ranger Equity Bear ETF was launched in 2011 by Advisor Shares.
"The investment objective of the AdvisorShares Ranger Equity Bear ETF is capital appreciation through short sales of domestically traded equity securities," the company's website said.
AdvisorShares said the ETF could be used as a tool in a long/short strategy in which investors go long on an index ETF and go long HDGE, giving them short exposure as well.

Why It's Important: Carper sits on the Senate Finance Committee, drawing a potential warning for investors that the stock market could trade down in the coming months given Carper's large bet.
Carper has served in the U.S. Senate since 2001 but announced earlier this year that he will not be seeking re-election in the 2024 election. &nbsp;
Members of Congress are allowed to buy and sell stocks, including taking short positions, as long as they properly disclose.
A push to ban members of Congress from buying and selling stocks, options and ETFs had risen in recent years. Over the past two years, members of Congress have been buying and selling stocks linked to committees they serve on or based on new policies or contracts announced by the U.S. government, which raised concerns that there was insider trading activity happening.
As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Carper could be privy to information on what the U.S. government planned to do to fight high inflation.

US Senator Who Serves On Finance Committee Profits From Betting Against The Stock Market — And He Just Bet The Same Again

A member of Congress could be raising red flags and pushing forward calls to ban <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/23/07/33288522/paging-nancy-pelosi-ban-on-congressional-trading-could-be-coming">trading activity by&nbsp;lawmakers.</a>
Here&rsquo;s a look at one member of Congress betting against the market,&nbsp;including his past instances of taking similar positions.
What Happened:&nbsp;Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE) is <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/22/11/29572688/us-senator-sitting-on-finance-committee-bets-against-stock-market-heres-who-and-how">once again betting</a> against the performance of U.S. stock markets, with an ETF purchase he made in July.
A new filing disclosure <a href="https://twitter.com/congresstrading/status/1686786214475579392">shared </a>by CongressTrading on Twitter revealed that Carper bought shares of the ProShares Short QQQ ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/psq#NYSE">PSQ</a>). The ETF is an inverse ETF seeking to outperform the Nasdaq 100 Index by going short the leading market index.
Carper bought two stakes of $1,000 to $15,000 in the ETF according to the filing, with a trading date of July 13 listed.
The filing also showed that Carper sold U.S. Treasury Bills valued at a range of $15,000 to $50,000 and $50,000 to $100,000 in two separate transactions.
Carper also sold positions in the Ranger Equity Bear ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hdge#NYSE">HDGE</a>), which were listed with values of $15,000 to $50,000 and $1,000 to $15,000.
&ldquo;Senator Carper reports shorting (betting against) the American economy in his stock portfolio. So now is he incentivized to pass laws to ruin the economy so he makes money?&rdquo; CongressTrading asked on Twitter.
Carper has served in the U.S. Senate since 2001 and announced previously that he will not be seeking re-election in 2024.
Trades by Carper often draw attention given his role <a href="https://www.carper.senate.gov/about/committees/">serving </a>on the Finance Committee and serving as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on International Trade, Customs and Global Competitiveness.

Why It&rsquo;s Important: Benzinga previously reported on Carper buying a position in the Ranger Equity Bear ETF in November 2022. The ETF from Advisor Shares was launched in 2011 and seeks to earn &ldquo;capital appreciation through short sales of domestically traded equity securities.&rdquo;
The position in the bearish ETF was previously flagged by UnusualWhales on Twitter which said Carper was &ldquo;actively shorting the US economy.&rdquo;
The trade in the ProShares Short QQQ on July 13 was executed&nbsp;as shares traded&nbsp;between $10.29 and $10.42 on that particular day. Shares of the ETF trade at $10.50 at the time of writing.
Carper&rsquo;s bet on the short Nasdaq 100 ETF comes as the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/qqq#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), which tracks the index, is up 41.8% year-to-date in 2023.
The index has been driven by the exceptional performance of technology stocks this year, particularly those related to the artificial intelligence sector, which have seen significant increases in valuation.
The surge in valuation in several of the top Nasdaq 100 components led to a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/07/33373293/ark-funds-on-nasdaq-rebalancing-can-smaller-tech-stocks-have-their-spotlight-plus-a-look-at-top-10-h">historical re-balance</a> in July to lower the weighting of key components.
Two members of Congress recently introduced a bill that would ban congressional members, the president, vice president, employees of the executive branch and Capitol Hill aides from owning stocks in individual companies.
&ldquo;It is critical that the American people know that their elected leaders are putting the public first, not looking for ways to line their own pocket,&rdquo; bill co-sponsor Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said in a statement.

Senator On Finance Committee Places Bet On Market Downturn: A Look At His Bearish ETF Purchase In July

A U.S. Senator who previously bet against the stock market in 2022 has placed a new bet with an ETF that shorts U.S. listed companies. Here are the details.
What Happened: Delaware Senator Thomas Carper bought up to $110,000 in Ranger Equity Bear Bear ETF (ARCA: $HDGE), an active ETF that shorts US listed stocks, <a href="https://twitter.com/unusual_whales/status/1588323869634441216">according to </a>Unusual Whales, a Twitter account that tracks unusual trades by Congress members.
Carper, who sits on the Senate Finance Committee, &quot;is actively shorting the US economy,&rdquo; Unusual Whales tweeted.

The Ranger Equity Bear Bear ETF (ARCA:HDGE) from Advisor Shares was <a href="https://advisorshares.com/etfs/hdge/">launched </a>in 2011 and has $152 million in assets under management.
&ldquo;The investment objective of the AdvisorShares Ranger Equity Bear ETF is capital appreciation through short sales of domestically traded equity securities,&rdquo; the company&rsquo;s website says. &ldquo;In selecting short positions, the Fund seeks to identify securities with low earnings quality or aggressive accounting which may be intended on the part of company management to mask operational deterioration and bolster the reported earnings per share over a short time period.&rdquo;
AdvisorShares says the ETF could be used as a tool in a long/short strategy where investors go long on an index ETF and go long HDGE giving them short exposure as well.
The fund invests in companies with future catalysts that could drive stock prices lower. The fund seeks to hold between 20 to 75 short positions averaging in size of 2% to 7% each.
Among the current top ten holdings of the ETF are Universal Display (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/oled#NASDAQ">OLED</a>), OneMain Holdings (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/omf#NYSE">OMF</a>), Equinix (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/eqix#NASDAQ">EQIX</a>), DoorDash Inc (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/dash#NYSE">DASH</a>) and Cirrus Logic (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/crus#NASDAQ">CRUS</a>).
The current makeup of the ETF is 45.7% small cap stocks, 36.5% mid-cap stocks and 17.8% large cap stocks.
Why It&rsquo;s Important: While members of Congress are allowed to buy and sell stocks, including taking short positions, as long as they properly disclose, this could be a bad take for the public.

Over the last two years, members of Congress have been buying and selling <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/02/25337519/10-best-stock-traders-in-congress-in-2021-spoiler-nancy-pelosi-isnt-no-1">stocks linked </a>to committees they serve on or based on new policies or contracts announced by the U.S. government.
Carper, who previously served as Delaware governor from 1993 to 2001, has been a U.S. Senator since 2001. He has actively been <a href="https://sec.report/Senate-Stock-Disclosures">betting </a>against the performance of the U.S. stock market in 2022.
As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, Carper could be privy to information of what the U.S. government plans to do to fight high inflation and keep the country out of a recession.

Carper also previously held shares of the ProShares Short S&amp;P 500 (ARCA:SH), which shorts the S&amp;P 500, a key market index tracked with the S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (ARCA:SPY).
The U.S. Senator holds long positions in several stocks, so the new position could be a hedge as it was meant or a trust that AdvisorShares has found companies that will likely have earnings pressure going forward.
News of Carper&rsquo;s bets against the U.S. stock market could continue to put pressure on a ban of members of Congress to be able to trade stocks.

Here&rsquo;s a look at how the Nasdaq 100 has performed since Trump left the White House.
What Happened: After serving as president for four years, Trump vacated the White House on Jan. 20, 2021.
During his time as president, the stock markets <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/21/01/19225452/how-the-markets-performed-on-the-last-day-of-trumps-presidency">enjoyed four years </a>of strong returns. The S&amp;P 500, tacked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/spy#NYSE">SPY</a>), had average annual gains of 14.5% during Trump&rsquo;s four years in office.
The Nasdaq 100, which tracks the largest non-financial stocks that trade on the Nasdaq exchange, also enjoyed sizable returns during Trump&rsquo;s time in office. The Nasdaq 100 is tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/qqq#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>).
The markets continued to rally after Biden won the presidential election on Nov. 3, 2020 and during his first year as a president. Investing $1,000 In the Nasdaq 100: The Invesco QQQ Trust traded at $320.14 on Jan. 20, 2021 when Trump left office.
A $1,000 investment in the Invesco QQQ Trust could have purchased 3.12 shares at market open on the day Trump left the White House.
That same investment would be worth $862.71 today, based on a price of $276.52 for QQQ at the time of writing. The investment would be down 13.7% in the 19 months since Trump left office.
Investors would have done better if they bet on the market going down after Trump left office. 'Fast Money' Picks For June 21

With the present market volatility, some investors may want to consider hedging their portfolios. One way to do that is to short stocks.&nbsp;
The problem with shorting stocks outright is the unlimited risk associated with it. Because stocks can theoretically go up forever, betting against them makes the amount you can lose unlimited. Most brokers also require a margin account in order to short stocks, which is something not all retail traders have access to.&nbsp;
There are however, other ways to bet against the market. One of the most popular ways to do that is with inverse ETFs.&nbsp;
<h3>Inverse ETFs</h3>
One risk to shorting has been eliminated with the creation of certain inverse ETFs. Inverse ETFs are not short individual stocks; they are long portfolios of securities structured to perform in an inverse direction to benchmarks. Derivatives and other securities are used, including swap agreements. Some of these ETFs do not use benchmarks to short against, but rather create their own models to perform in an inverse manner.&nbsp;
Suppose you thought the overall market will decline in the short term. One way to hedge your portfolio to prepare for that would be to buy the ProShares Short S&amp;P 500 (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/sh#NYSE">SH</a>), which attempts to return the daily investment result that is the inverse of the S&amp;P 500 Index performance. If the S&amp;P 500 Index goes up one percent in a day, the daily goal of SH is to decline by one percent on that day.&nbsp;
<h3>Emphasis On Daily Returns</h3>
Maybe the biggest difference between sophisticated investors and retail investors regarding inverse ETFs is that experienced investors understand how different the performance of a daily return versus a non-daily return can be on a longer than one-day basis. Before trading an inverse ETF, you need to understand that an inverse ETF&rsquo;s asset base will be reset on a daily basis.&nbsp;
An example is to suppose that you think the tech sector is going to decline, and you want to short the sector for a big move. So, you buy the ProShares Short QQQ ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/psq#NYSE">PSQ</a>) and plan to hold it for more than one day. Even if you&rsquo;re right, and QQQ declines, PSQ will match the inverse of QQQ&rsquo;s performance for only one day. The second day and third day, and every day after that, QQQ and PSQ will travel in an inverse direction, but they will not necessarily not match each other.&nbsp;
There are several factors that cause inverse ETF&rsquo;s to not return the exact opposite performance of an index. One of these is costs: inverse ETFs usually have higher expense ratios, sometimes much higher, than regular ETFs. Some inverse ETFs have expense ratios of one percent or more, which cuts down on the return of inverse ETFs.&nbsp;
Another factor contributing to performance difference is the compounding effect. After each trading day, inverse ETF&rsquo;s are reset, and the gain or loss for the next trading day is based on the principal reset principal price. This is not true of the index, which is not reset; the principal amount of the index includes factors such as its prior gains or losses, dividends, and other earnings, and expenses, which increases and reduces the index principal value. &nbsp;&nbsp;
Among the other factors differentiating the price performance between an index and its inverse ETF performance for more than one day is correlation risk; some of the companies in an index might be hard to trade, increasing trading costs. This is a daily potential problem since an inverse ETF rebalances each trading day.
<h3>Actively managed inverse ETFs. &nbsp;</h3>
There are inverse ETFs offered for a wide variety of markets, such as sectors, countries, or asset classes. Most inverse ETFs are passively managed, meaning they track an index. However some inverse ETFs are actively managed, that is they&rsquo;re managed by a team that makes changes according to their investment model. AdvisorShares is an ETF sponsor that offers actively managed inverse ETFs, the Ranger Equity Bear (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hdge#NYSE">HDGE</a>) and AdvisorShares Dorsey Wright Short (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/dwsh#NASDAQ">DWSH</a>). &nbsp;
In actively managed portfolios, managers seek out the asset classes that are most prone to decline. This strategy is different than a benchmark inverse ETF. With actively managed inverse ETFs, the ETF may not go up when the market is declining because there is no benchmark to tie its market performance to. Instead, the ETF maker decides which sectors to short according to its methodology. All the major indexes might go down, for example, and an actively managed inverse ETF can decline. Of course, the adverse can also happen where actively managed inverse ETFs can advance when the market goes up.
When used correctly, inverse ETFs can be a great way to hedge your portfolio and bet on the downside. For any investor who understands the risks and benefits of using leverage, these products can provide a tactical way to protect your investments and even profit in the event of a downturn.&nbsp;

How To Short The Stock Market Via Inverse ETFs

Friday brought an upbeat February jobs report, but confirming that market participants are locked into the coronavirus, stocks continued swooning as the number of confirmed cases of the respiratory illness in the U.S. ballooned past 230.
With major equity benchmarks&nbsp;such as the S&amp;P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average&nbsp;residing below key trendlines, including the 200-day moving average, conditions are ideal for active traders to consider inverse and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/20/03/15463193/it-could-be-time-for-these-two-bearish-bank-etfs">leveraged bearish exchange traded funds</a>.
Here are a few names&nbsp;traders can consider if market conditions continue deteriorating over the near-term.
<h3>ProShares Short QQQ (PSQ)</h3>
The ProShares Short QQQ (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/psq#NYSE">PSQ</a>) is an ideal way for even conservative traders to participate in downside for technology and communication services stocks: this fund is inverse, though not leveraged.
What that means is that PSQ is designed to deliver the daily inverse performance of the popular Nasdaq-100 Index. So if that benchmark declines by 1% on a given day, PSQ should rise by 1%.
PSQ is also a good short-term hedge for investors holding the Invesco QQQ (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/qqq#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), the Nasdaq-100 tracking ETF. Although PSQ isn&#39;t leveraged, those using it should still treat as a short-term instrument.
&ldquo;Due to the <a href="https://www.proshares.com/funds/performance/the_universal_effects_of_compounding.html">compounding</a> of daily returns, holding periods of greater than one day can result in returns that are significantly different than the target return and ProShares&#39; returns over periods other than one day will likely differ in amount and possibly direction from the target return for the same period,&rdquo; <a href="https://www.proshares.com/funds/psq.html">according to ProShares.</a>
<h3>Direxion Daily Energy Bear 3X Shares (ERY)</h3>
Friday&#39;s more than 15% jump, one built on heavy volume, by the Direxion Daily Energy Bear 3X Shares (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ery#NYSE">ERY</a>) notwithstanding, it&#39;s easy to see why ERY is an alluring short-term play in the current environment.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said earlier this week it&#39;s cutting output, and Exxon Mobil (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/xom#NYSE">XOM</a>) and Chevron (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/cvx#NYSE">CVX</a>) laid out budgets that indicate a large amount of prudence. Yet energy stocks are trading as if oil is at $20 per barrel, not the $43 area where it actually resides.&nbsp;
ERY aims to deliver <a href="http://www.direxion.com/products/direxion-daily-energy-bull-3x-etf">triple the daily inverse returns</a> of the Energy Select Sector Index, and the risk with this fund is clear: ERY has already more than doubled this year, and with the energy sector so battered, it may not take much after the coronavirus situation ebbs to ignite a rally here, punishing ERY in the process.
<h3>Direxion Daily Consumer Discretionary Bear 3X Shares (PASS)</h3>
Although the February jobs report would appear to indicate the U.S. economy remains on solid footing, it encompasses a period in which the coronavirus only started becoming a concern in the U.S. Now, it&#39;s a breakout &mdash; and one that could easily derail consumer confidence.
Look at Amazon.com, Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/amzn#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>), which is lower by more than 8% this month.
Amazon is relevant to the Direxion Daily Consumer Discretionary Bear 3X Shares (NYSE: PASS) because PASS&#39;s underlying index devotes over 23% of its weight to the e-commerce giant.
<h3>ProShares Ultra Short Industrials (SIJ)</h3>
The coronavirus is punishing the industrial sector, as highlighted by recently sour performances by Boeing Co&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ba#NYSE">BA</a>) and United Technologies Corporation&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/utx#NYSE">UTX</a>), just to name two.
Enter the ProShares Ultra Short Industrials (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/sij#NYSE">SIJ</a>), which tries to deliver double the daily inverse returns of the Dow Jones U.S. Industrials Index.
Looking at the Industrial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/xli#NYSE">XLI</a>), a near-term case grows for SIJ. XLI is sporting a March loss approaching 14% and closed Friday about 11% below its 200-day line.

4 Bearish ETFs Just Right For A Wild Market With Coronavirus Volatility

Stocks suffered through their worst day of 2017 Tuesday with the S&amp;P 500 sliding 1.2 percent. One day doesn&#39;t always result in a new trend, but investors should always be prepared.
Exchange traded funds offer investors myriad avenues with which to prepare for equity market retrenchments.
Here are some ideas from the world of ETFs for investors looking to hedge against a possible correction in stocks.

	Direxion Daily S&amp;P 500&nbsp;Bear 1x Shares (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/spdn#NYSE">SPDN</a>)</h3>
Leveraged ETFs are often viewed as one of the best ways to profit when stocks decline and there are plenty of leveraged ETFs tracking widely followed U.S. equity benchmarks, such as the S&amp;P 500. However, leveraged ETF are volatile instruments, intended for use only by active, risk-tolerant, sophisticated traders <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/16/11/8716997/some-traders-see-upside-for-these-oil-etfs">over intraday time frames</a>.
The Direxion Daily S&amp;P 500 Bear 1x Shares is an inverse though not leveraged ETF. Like leveraged ETFs, inverse ETFs are intended to be short-term trading vehicles, not investments, but SPDN does represent a more conservative avenue for profiting from a possible decline in the S&amp;P 500. If SPDN <a href="http://www.direxioninvestments.com/products/daily-sp-500-bear-1x-shares">behaves as expected</a>, it will rise 1 percent on a day when the S&amp;P 500 declines by the same amount.

	SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/gld#NYSE">GLD</a>)</h3>
Gold is a favored destination for investors to guard against equity market corrections, a thesis largely based on historical data indicating the yellow metal isn&#39;t highly correlated to bonds and stocks.
The current environment brings an interesting confluence of factors, including the dichotomy of rising interest rates and a lethargic U.S. dollar. Rising rates are usually seen <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/17/03/9155614/gold-tops-these-asset-classes">as a drag on gold</a> because bullion offers no yield, but a weak dollar is a boost because gold is denominated in dollars.
Gold is more attractive when interest rates because there&#39;s no yield as there&#39;s on a bond fund, meaning capital appreciation is the only way investors in these products are compensated for taking on gold market risk. On the other hand, data suggests inflation is rising, which could bode well for gold ETFs because the yellow metal is often embraced as an inflation hedge.

The Nasdaq Composite slid 1.8 percent Tuesday. Again, that is just one day, but investors looking to hedge against further Nasdaq declines without employing leverage can turn to the ProShares Short QQQ.
PSQ &ldquo;seeks a return that is -1x the return of an index or other benchmark (target) for a single day, as measured from one NAV calculation to the next. Due to the <a href="http://www.proshares.com/funds/performance/the_universal_effects_of_compounding.html">compounding</a> of daily returns, ProShares&#39; returns over periods other than one day will likely differ in amount and possibly direction from the target return for the same period,&rdquo; according to <a href="http://www.proshares.com/funds/psq.html">ProShares</a>.
Investors long technology ETFs or individual stocks such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/aapl#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) or Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/amzn#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) could find PSQ to be a potentially useful near-term hedge.

3 Conservative ETF Ideas For A Market Correction

The Internet has not destroyed all publishers, as Reed Elsevier NV (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/enl#NYSE">ENL</a>) is up for the last week, month, quarter, six months and year of market action.

	Reed Elsevier NV has a profit margin of 37.20 percent. Comparatively,&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;has a profit margin of 21.60 percent while&nbsp;Microsoft&nbsp;has a profit margin 25.40 percent. Old-school publishing beats the high-tech behemoths here in this vital indicator.

	Reed Elsevier NV is also more generous with its shareholders than Apple or Microsoft.

	The dividend yield for Apple is 1.84 percent. For Microsoft, the dividend yield is 2.50 percent. Reed Elsevier NV has a dividend yield of 3.79 percent.

	Making all of that even more impressive is that Reed Elsevier NV has no debt.

	Reed Elsevier NV is now trading around $46, close to its 52-week high. The short float is miniscule, so few on Wall Street are betting that it will fall in price.

	For long-term investors looking for a solid income stock that is up nearly 30 percent in the last year of market action, Reed Elsevier NV is worth the read.

Here's a quick look at some of the top performing Nasdaq stocks in May. These stocks all have a market cap of more than $500 million and they all pay a dividend.

OPNET Technologies (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/opnt#NASDAQ">OPNT</a>) is almost 30% lower year to date, but up more than 10% in the past month. The Bethesda, Md.-based software company beat fiscal fourth-quarter EPS expectations in mid May, sending shares higher. It has a $578.4 million market cap and a dividend yield of 2.3%. The long-term EPS growth forecast is 16.7%. But the stock has underperformed the likes of CA Technologies (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ca#NASDAQ">CA</a>) and Compuware (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/cpwr#NASDAQ">CPWR</a>) over the past six months.

PetSmart (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/petm#NASDAQ">PETM</a>) shares are trading more than 26% higher year to date, including up more than 10% in the past month. It reached a multiyear high following the recent first-quarter report. The $7.0 billion specialty retailer has a dividend yield is 0.9%. Its long-term EPS growth forecast is 16.1% and its return on equity is 27.9%. The stock has outperformed Walmart (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/pcln#NYSE">PCLN</a>) and the broader markets since the beginning of the year.

Raven Industries (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/ravn#NASDAQ">RAVN</a>) is up more than 9% in the past month and more than 21% in the past six months. The industrial products maker said in May it beat top line and bottom line estimates and its board approved a stock split. The company is based in Sioux Falls, S.D., and has a market cap of $1.2 billion. Its dividend yield is 1.3% and the return on equity is 30.7%. Because of the recent surge, the stock has outperformed the broader markets over the past six months.

Royal Gold (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/rgld#NASDAQ">RGLD</a>) is trading almost 11% higher than a month ago. Early in May, the Denver-based precious metals royalties company posted its fifth-consecutive quarter of double-digit revenue growth. The $4.0 billion market cap company has a dividend yield of 0.9% and its long-term EPS growth forecast is 10.0%. Because of the recent rise in the share price, the stock has narrowly outperformed the broader markets over the past three months.

Spreadtrum Communications (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/sprd#NASDAQ">SPRD</a>) is up about 31% in the past month, but still more than 12% lower year to date. This $829.4 million market cap semiconductor maker posted strong first-quarter results early in May. It has a dividend yield of 2.2%, the long-term EPS growth forecast is 17.5% and the return on equity is 48.9%. The stock has outperformed competitors Intel (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/rbcn#NASDAQ">RBCN</a>) and Texas Instruments (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/txn#NASDAQ">TXN</a>) over the past three months.

True Religion Apparel (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/trlg#NASDAQ">TRLG</a>) is more than 12% higher than 90 days ago, but it still has a long way to go to rebound from the plunge in February following an earnings miss. The California-based jeans and sportswear maker has a dividend yield of 2.7% and a long-term EPS growth forecast of 20.0%. Its operating margin is higher than the industry average. The stock has underperformed competitor VF Corp. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/vfc#NYSE">VFC</a>) and the broader markets over the past six months.

Seagate, PF Chang's and Other Top Nasdaq Stocks in February

The reasons are plentiful regarding why investors and even active traders should <a href="http://www.benzinga.com/trading-ideas/long-ideas/12/02/2332700/yinn-to-my-yang-whats-up-with-leveraged-chinese-etfs">tread carefully with leveraged and inverse ETFs</a> but if today's market pullback sticks around for a while, the utility of these ETFs (when properly used) has the potential to shine.

Inverse ETFs are probably the best bet of the three primary ways most folks establish bearish stances. Shorting individual stocks can be costly due to the margin requirements. Buying put options is fine, but if a stock or index doesn't fall as much as you need it to before expiry, then the puts are worthless. 

In other words, inverse and leveraged ETFs aren't the devil of the financial world, as long as they are used as short-term trading instruments, not long-term investments. Consider the following inverse ETFs if today's glum market action is a sign of things to come.

SMN is great short-term hedge on positions in ETFs such as XLB or the Market Vectors Coal ETF (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/kol#NYSE">KOL</a>) or stocks such as Freeport McMoRan (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/fcx#NYSE">FCX</a>).

There was evidence of a January Effect, or small-cap leadership, and that encouraged an increase in risk appetite. That scenario may also make small-caps vulnerable on the downside and that validates TZA as an ETF worth TRADING. This is one of those ETFs that can have you thinking you've mastered the market one day and pulling your hair out the next day. In the span of about five weeks from September-October 2011, TZA went from $40 to over $60 and back down to $40 again. That's a warning label.

ProShares Short QQQ (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/psq#NYSE">PSQ</a>)
With the Nasdaq flirting with levels not seen in over a decade that means the tech-heavy index could easily be fertile ground for some downside savagery. PSQ is not a leveraged fund, so if the PowerShares QQQ (Nasdaq: <a class="ticker" href="/stock/qqq#Nasdaq">QQQ</a>) loses 1% on a given day, PSQ will be higher by roughly the same amount. This one is useful for those looking to get their feet wet with inverse ETFs because it's fairly calm compared to the other members of this list.
