Why It Matters: UnitedHealth shares have witnessed a steep decline since its disappointing <a href="https://benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/price-target/25/04/44902410/unitedhealth-group-stock-is-getting-crushed-whats-fueling-the-selloff">first quarter results</a> last month, when the company narrowly missed expectations, posting earnings of $7.20 per share versus the consensus estimate of $7.29.
However, it&#8217;s been under scrutiny <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/health-care/24/12/42316904/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompson-fatally-shot-outside-nyc-hotel">ever since the assassination</a> of its insurance unit CEO, Brian Thompson, in December 2024, by a disgruntled insurance patient, Luigi Mangione.
The stock once again <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45373368/unitedhealth-stock-plunges-names-new-ceo-suspends-2025-guidance">witnessed a pullback</a> last week, following the abrupt departure of its CEO, Andrew Witty. Former CEO Hemsley was reinstated, and the company subsequently withdrew its full-year guidance.
To make matters worse, a Wall Street Journal report claimed that UnitedHealth was under a <a href="https://benzinga.com/general/health-care/25/05/45426769/unitedhealth-stock-plunges-over-8-in-after-hours-trading-as-doj-criminal-probe-adds-to-turmoil-after-ceo-shake-up">federal criminal investigation</a> focusing on its Medicare Advantage business practices. The company refuted these claims, stating that it has not been notified of any supposed criminal investigation by the Department of Justice.
While several experts see this string of insider buying as a sign of a turnaround to come, investor Jeremy Lefebvre posted on X, calling the company &#8220;straight trash.&#8221;

UnitedHealth CEO, Other Insiders Buy Millions In Stock As It Sinks Over 23% In A Week: Move Gets 'Mixed' Reaction

Nearly 23 million Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/shib/usd">SHIB</a>) were kicked out of circulation Sunday, applying further deflationary pressure on the popular dog-themed meme coin.
What happened: The burn rate exploded 588.22% in the last 24 hours, resulting in a supply squeeze of 22.94 million SHIB tokens, <a href="https://www.shibburn.com/">according</a> to Shibburn, the coin&#8217;s official burn tracker.
At the time of writing, about 410.74 trillion SHIBs have been burned, with the circulating supply at 584.45 trillion.
Coin burning entails sending a cryptocurrency to an unusable wallet address to remove it from circulation. This is done to create scarcity and boost its demand and market value over time.
Interestingly, the burn spike came despite a sharp drop in <a href="https://www.shibariumscan.io/stats">transactions </a>on the ecosystem's Layer-2 blockchain, Shibarium. It's worth pointing out that a portion of transaction fees paid on Shibarium is set aside and burned through an automated burn mechanism.

Last year at the WWDC, Apple promised a major overhaul of its voice assistant. However, this has been repeatedly delayed with many of the promised features still not functioning properly.
Eddy Cue, a senior Apple executive, reportedly told AI could do what iPhone did to Nokia's business. Last month, during his testimony in a DOJ case against Alphabet, Cue said that iPhones could lose relevance over the next 10 years: "As crazy as that sounds," the report noted.
However, during Apple's earnings call in May, CEO Tim Cook defended the slow progress, saying Apple Intelligence features simply need more time to meet the company's quality standards.

So, Why Is Apple Still Behind? As per the report, which cited multiple employees and people close to the company, much of the blame has been put on Giannandrea, who, according to the sources, did not fight for adequate funding.
Some also said that the ex-Google executive lacked a sense of urgency. But, Giannandrea reportedly thinks that the blame should be with marketing and advertising teams for hyping unfinished projects.
The acquisition of a lower number of GPUs than its competitors, its long-standing commitment to privacy and the tendency to perfect a feature before launching also hindered the company's progress in the AI race, the report said.
Why It's Important: Apple is now working on iOS 19, which will reported pack significant AI updates, including <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45367075/apple-reportedly-leans-on-ai-to-solve-iphone-battery-woes-in-ios-19-update-ahead-of-thinner-iphone-17-launch-this-fall">battery optimization</a> and a virtual health coach.

What Happened: Bitcoin tapped $107,000, the highest in nearly four months, in a sharp evening rally that saw trading volumes increase by almost 50%. The apex cryptocurrency was already up 11% in the month
Ethereum, on the other hand, sold off, plunging to an intraday low of $2,344.67 before recovering to the mid-$2,400s by late evening.
Over $575 million was liquidated from the cryptocurrency market in the last 24 hours, with bullish leveraged bets accounting for $350 million.&nbsp;
That said, about $465 million in Bitcoin shorts risked liquidation if the apex cryptocurrency rallied to $108,000.
Bitcoin's Open Interest surged 5.31% in the last 24 hours to levels not seen since December 2024. Meanwhile, bearish bets against Bitcoin spiked, with over 60% of Binance traders with open BTC positions shorting the cryptocurrency.
The "Greed" barometer increased to 74, according to the Crypto Fear and Greed Index, indicating a potential surge in buying pressure in the days to come.

The global cryptocurrency market capitalization stood at $3.35 trillion, following an increase of 2.36% in the last 24 hours.
Stock futures dipped Sunday night. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Futures fell 287 points, or 0.67%, as of 8:37 p.m. EDT.&nbsp; Futures tied to the S&amp;P 500 slid 0.82%, while Nasdaq 100 Futures lost 1.06%.
The sell-offs come after <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/05/45484954/treasury-secretary-bessent-addresses-moodys-downgrade-and-tariff-impact-n-walmart">Moody's downgraded the U.S. long-term credit rating</a>, raising fears about government debt and inflation. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed these concerns, calling Moody's a "lagging indicator."&nbsp;&nbsp;
The S&amp;P 500 extended its gains on Wednesday. The broad-based index rose 0.10% to close at 5,892.58, while the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite gained 0.72% to end at 19,146.81. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell for the second straight day, losing 89.37 points, or 0.21%, to end at 42,051.06.

Analyst Notes: Cryptocurrency market commentator Michaël van de Poppe highlighted the potential for altcoins to outperform Bitcoin in the next days.
"M2 Supply goes up and Bitcoin is primed for a new ATH. Altcoins are outperforming Bitcoin on every move upwards. I think we're in for a great 6-8 week period," Van De Poppe stated. Notably, Bitcoin touched an all-time high of $109,114.88 on Jan. 20, 2025. It is currently trading 3.72% below those levels.

According to the WTTC, the U.S. is the only country out of the 184 surveyed that is projected to lose tourism dollars this year.
"Other countries are really rolling out the welcome mat, and it feels like the US is putting up a ‘we are closed' sign at their doorway," WTTC CEO Julia Simpson told Bloomberg.&nbsp;
The consequences of this shift could be devastating for the economy, Simpson warns. According to data collected by the WTTC and Oxford Economics, direct and indirect tourism represents 9% of the American economy. In total, the sector employs around 20 million people and creates $585 billion in tax dollars each year, which amounts to about 7% of all tax revenues.&nbsp;
"The US travel and tourism sector is the biggest sector globally compared to any other country, worth almost $2.6 trillion," Simpson says. It's a "major mainstay of the U.S. economy."

Some of the challenges the American tourism industry is facing are years in the making. For example, Simpson says restrictions from COVID-era travel lingered in the U.S. longer than they did in many other countries. Then the rising U.S. dollar started pricing people out, she told Bloomberg. These things kept visitors from places like Japan and Europe, countries who typically have a lot of tourists in the U.S., from making the trip.
Other challenges the industry faces are new and have seemingly sprung up overnight. Simpson says many travelers are now shifting their behaviors as a result of the "America first" rhetoric and policy.&nbsp;
"What we are seeing now is a sentiment shift that's really very sad," Simpson told Bloomberg. "Legislators need not confuse the tourism sector with issues around illegal immigration. A sophisticated system can balance both without turning [the country] into an island that no one wants to visit."

The WTTC predicts that it will take until 2030 for tourism to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels. "The thing about tourism is it's extremely resilient," Simpson says. "If you push the right buttons, it will bounce back."
But it might be too little, too late. Simpson told Bloomberg that while the U.S. is making it more difficult to visit, every other country is making it easier. "India is gaining, the Middle East is gaining, China is gaining, Europe is doing quite well. It's only Americans that are being left behind and losing out," she said.

According to Reddit comments, suspicion toward new hires, especially younger ones, has been growing. Many said appearance matters more than it should: dressing too formally, smiling too much or simply being unfamiliar could result in cold shoulders. &#8220;If you look too young and preppy/WASP-y&#8230; you might inadvertently give off that impression,&#8221; one commenter said.
The OP admitted he dresses well because his father taught him to, but said he might consider &#8220;reading the room&#8221; more. Still, he maintained that he shouldn&#8217;t have to change who he is to be treated with basic respect.

Julie and her husband, who've lived below their means for decades and now boast a net worth of over $6 million, made it their mission to teach their kids how to save and invest early. And it worked—almost too well. Their 23-year-old daughter, a full-time grad student, already has over $250,000 saved in a Roth IRA and non-retirement investment accounts.
How? "She has accumulated this through jobs she's had for years, as well as our annual gift of a match to what she <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/11/41991146/suze-orman-says-this-investment-can-make-your-kids-rich-by-retirement-you-have-a-golden-opportunity-to-launch-them-to-their-first-million">contributes to her Roth</a>," Julie explained.
But here's the problem: their daughter refuses to spend money on, well… anything.
"In my opinion, she has a toxic attitude towards money," the mom wrote. "She constantly says she cannot afford things and never offers to pay for anything when she's on a date with her boyfriend or when she's with friends or family."

Julie added that while her daughter studies hard and is always hustling to earn more, she's also become what she calls "miserly."
Cue co-host KT's reaction: "Mom thinks her daughter's a miser," she said, laughing. But KT didn't see anything wrong with a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/05/45306698/will-i-have-more-money-in-the-long-run-by-taking-out-student-loans-instead-of-paying-cash-suze-orman-weighs-in">23-year-old who's obsessed with saving</a>. "I wouldn't do a thing, mom," she added. "Any kid that's 23 that wants to work and earn money and save money and accumulate money is a good thing."
Orman, however, wasn't ready to let the daughter completely off the hook. "Mom's saying she's miserly because she never pays for anything because she doesn't think she can afford it," she clarified.
Still, Orman made it crystal clear that this kind of saving habit is not a red flag—it's a financial flex.
"These are her compounding years," she said. "For every dollar she saves over the next 40 years, when she's in her 60s, it's going to multiply so much because of compounding… She's on the path to being far wealthier than both you and your husband."

So what should parents do when their daughter's on the fast track to millionaire status but won't split a dinner bill?
Orman suggested one tactical move: stop matching her Roth IRA contributions.
"She has enough," she said. "You can simply say, ‘You're doing so great, we're not going to match you anymore. You're on your own.'" It's not about punishing her—it's about letting her feel the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/are-you-rich">difference between earned money and gifted money.</a> "Let's just see what that does to her," she added.
As for the boyfriend footing the bill? "Let them decide that between themselves," Orman added. "But you have not created a monster. You've created a money maven, if you ask me."

A new Republican tax proposal backed by President Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) could give every newborn in the U.S. a head start with a $1,000 investment account.

The accounts are called &#8220;MAGA Accounts,&#8221; short for &#8220;money account for growth and advancement.&#8221; While the name echoes Trump's famous campaign slogan, the idea came from Cruz, who spent over a year promoting the concept inside the GOP and who initially used the name "Invest America."
"You can call it anything you like,&#8221; Cruz told <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/05/12/2025/the-new-republican-maga-account-has-a-surprising-architect-ted-cruz">Semafor</a> on Monday. &#8220;What is powerful is enabling every child in America to have an <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-investment-accounts-for-kids">investment account</a> and a stake in the American free enterprise system.&#8221;

Under the proposal, the federal government would contribute $1,000 to an account for every baby born between 2025 and 2028. Families, friends, and even employers could contribute up to $5,000 each year. Children wouldn't be able to access the funds until they turn 18, and the money would accumulate interest.
Cruz said the goal is to help more Americans benefit from the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/market-summary/25/05/45399940/warren-buffett-shows-how-patience-pays-98-of-his-160-billion-wealth-came-after-turning-65-thanks-the-power-of-compound-interest">power of compound interest</a> and grow up with a financial stake in the economy. "This will give everyone a stake," he said. &#8220;When every child has invested, it's no longer an abstract idea.&#8221;

The MAGA accounts are part of a much larger piece of legislation dubbed &#8220;THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL&#8221; — in all capital letters. Trump used the phrase on <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114495946485549840">Truth Social</a>, writing, &#8220;The Bill is GREAT.&#8221;

The <a href="https://waysandmeans.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/SMITMO_017_xml.pdf">bill</a> includes around $4.9 trillion in tax cuts and aims to follow through on Trump's campaign promises. It includes breaks for tipped and overtime workers, retirement-age Americans, and new taxes on private university endowments. It also includes significant cuts to programs like Medicaid, food stamps, and clean energy initiatives.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cruz vs. &#8216;Baby Bonds&#8217;</h2>
Cruz emphasized that the MAGA accounts are different from Democratic &#8220;baby bond&#8221; proposals, which are more restrictive and don't allow private market investments. &#8220;That is just a government program,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;This is very much designed to get the next generation to invest in the market.&#8221;
Business leaders appear to be on board. Investor Brad Gerstner told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpWyUqBYJfA">CNBC</a> on May 5 that companies like Uber (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UBER#NYSE">UBER</a>), Dell (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DELL#NYSE">DELL</a>), Nvidia (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>), and Oracle (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ORCL#NYSE">ORCL</a>) are already interested in contributing to their employees&#8217; children's accounts. &#8220;You will have an account in the S&amp;P 500 that&#8217;s worth upwards of $50,000 to $60,000. It changes the game by getting everybody. This is the president&#8217;s Main Street agenda.&#8221;

JPMorgan Chase&#8216;s chief global strategist suggests that the US economy, while likely to dodge a recession, should brace for slower growth.

Despite these challenges, Kelly remains optimistic about the economy&#8217;s resilience to stave off a full-scale recession.
&#8220;No, we&#8217;re not [seeing impacts now]. At the moment, I&#8217;d have to say the tariff pullback and also this big tax bill, which is going to put stimulus into 2026 and a little stimulus in 2025, that takes us from more than likely going to have a recession to less than likely we&#8217;re going to have a recession this year,&#8221; Kelly stated during an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ghzpDDdne8">with</a> CNBC.
However, Kelly also cautioned about a potential dip in consumer spending due to economic uncertainty and possible inflation resulting from tariff impacts.

He said, &#8220;Consumers&nbsp;are resilient, but there comes&nbsp;a point where you squeeze&nbsp;them enough in terms of&nbsp;tariffs, you&#8217;re&nbsp;collecting on the student loans&nbsp;again, and then just the&nbsp;general worry, and, of course,&nbsp;the cutbacks to the government&nbsp;sector, all these things I&nbsp;think are beginning to weigh&nbsp;on consumers. I think it is slowing the economy down, still not willing to say recession.&#8221;

Ramsey accused the media of thriving on fear-based narratives. &#8220;They really don&#8217;t report the news. They&#8217;re just in the fear porn business,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If the tornado isn&#8217;t going to kill you, you&#8217;re going to lose all your retirement. Or there&#8217;s going to be a hurricane, or an earthquake, or all of the immigrants are going to kill you. Something&#8217;s going to kill you. That&#8217;s all they do over and over and over.&#8221;
He recalled how, after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the stock market dropped sharply but fully recovered in just 54 days—a milestone he says went unreported. &#8220;Not one news outlet reported that America&#8217;s economy is so vibrant, so strong,&#8221; Ramsey said.
