Tesla Inc.'s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) board reportedly began searching for a successor to Elon Musk after the company faced significant financial setbacks.
What Happened: About a month ago, the board reached out to executive search firms to formalize a process for selecting a new CEO, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/tesla-musk-ceo-search-board-0ce61af9?mod=e2tw">reported</a> the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the discussion.
Musk, who has led Tesla for nearly two decades, was reportedly spending considerable time in Washington, D.C., assisting with the Department of Government Efficiency under President Donald Trump.
Musk did not push back, the report said, and the board told him he needed to devote more time to Tesla and publicly commit to doing so.
Following the publication of the report, Tesla's official X handle took to social media and said that the assertion that the board reached out to recruitment firms is "false."

What Happened: On Tuesday, Trump once again called out the Federal Reserve for not cutting interest rates in an interview with ABC News, marking the 100th day milestone of his second term in office.
Showing more restraint than in past attacks on Fed Chair Jerome Powell, Trump pointed to his administration's progress on inflation, citing lower grocery, egg, and gasoline prices, before adding that &#8220;interest rates are the same.&#8221;
Trump pointed out that gasoline prices were at $1.98 per gallon in some states, &#8220;It was $3.50 and $4.00 and $4.50. But gasoline is way down,&#8221; he says.
&#8220;Interest rates should be down,&#8221; Trump said, accusing the Federal Reserve of being &#8220;stubborn&#8221; and wanting &#8220;to be cute.&#8221; The remark echoed his 2018 criticism during his first term, when he told Fox &amp; Friends the &#8220;Fed is getting a little too cute,&#8221; as <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45826869">reported</a> by BBC News.

Trump Slams 'Stubborn' Federal Reserve For Not Cutting Interest Rates—'They Want To Be Cute'

The odds that the U.S. slips into recession in 2025 sailed to a record high Wednesday on Polymarket after first-quarter GDP showed a contraction.
What happened: Odds jumped to <a href="https://polymarket.com/event/us-recession-in-2025">72%</a> in the early hours on the Polygon (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">POL</a>)-based betting platform before dipping to 62% late in the evening.&nbsp;
People buy and sell outcome shares, i.e., "yes" and "no," with those reflecting the correct, final outcome paying out $1 in USD Coin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/">USDC</a>) apiece upon market resolution.
In this case, the market will resolve to yes if the U.S. GDP contracts for two straight quarters or if the National Bureau of Economic Research declares a recession before Jan. 1, 2026. Nearly $4 million has already been wagered on the outcome.
Recession odds for 2025 also soared on the CFTC-regulated betting platform Kalshi, reaching an all-time high of 74%.

Meanwhile, the odds that the Federal Reserve will <a href="https://polymarket.com/event/fed-emergency-rate-cut-in-2025?tid=1746068096714">introduce </a>an emergency rate cut remained largely unchanged at 28%, as policymakers signaled no change in monetary policy until inflation nears the central bank&#8217;s 2% goal, according to Reuters.
Emergency meetings happen during periods of economic crisis. The bank held an emergency meeting in March 2020 in reaction to the risk posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to the economy.
Interestingly, traders expected rates to remain unchanged in next week&#8217;s FOMC meeting but priced in a 64% chance of a 25 basis point cut in June, <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">according</a> to the CME FedWatch tool.
Why It Matters: The economy <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/45100047/recession-odds-spike-wall-street-tumbles-as-q1-gdp-surprisingly-contracts-be-patient-trump-responds">shrank by 0.3%</a> on an annualized basis last quarter, down from 2.4% growth in the previous quarter and well below the expected 0.4% growth.&nbsp;
The contraction, the first since the second quarter of 2022, was attributed to the surge in imports as companies sought to avoid President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/04/45124752/wall-street-ceos-pull-the-trump-tariff-card-is-macro-fear-the-new-excuse-for-weak-guidance-asks-leading-fund-manager">sweeping tariff measures</a> that could come into effect later this year. Economist Joseph Brusuelas anticipated a recession more likely by midyear.

Recession Odds Reach All-Time High After Negative Q1 GDP Numbers, But Crypto Bettors Don't See Emergency Rate Cut Anytime Soon

Robinhood Markets Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HOOD#NASDAQ">HOOD</a>) reported a marked decline in its cryptocurrency revenue in the first quarter as compressed prices hampered trading activity.
What happened: The commission-free trading platform released its quarterly <a href="https://in.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/02/43676276/robinhood-q4-earnings-highlights-record-revenue-eps-beat-analyst-estimates-crypto-revenue-up-700">financials </a>after Wednesday&#8217;s market close and disclosed a cryptocurrency notional trading volume of $252 million, up 100% year-over-year but <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/02/43682382/robinhood-ceo-vlad-tenev-reveals-what-hes-most-excited-about-as-crypto-revenue-skyrockets-8x-stock-surges-15-after-hours">down 30%</a> from the previous record quarter.
The cryptocurrency revenue was over 43% of Robinhood's total transaction-based revenue for the quarter.
The firm also revealed a cryptocurrency notional trading of $46 billion, up 28% from the same quarter last year but down 35% from the fourth quarter of 2024.

The company&#8217;s cryptocurrency arm, Robinhood Crypto, allows users to trade in popular coins such as Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>), Dogecoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/doge/usd">DOGE</a>), and others.
Why It Matters: The fall in volume and revenue followed a marked contraction in the cryptocurrency market in the first quarter, with total capitalization falling by more than 18%. Notably, Bitcoin and Ethereum plunged 11.82% and 45.41%, respectively, during the period.
During the earnings call, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said it was normal for trading volumes to fluctuate, but he was pleased that the company&#8217;s market share was intact.
Tenev also talked about diversifying the business away from cryptocurrency. "We're diversifying the business outside of the crypto business, which will make us less reliant on crypto transaction volumes," the CEO said.

Robinhood's 30% Crypto Revenue Plunge: Vlad Tenev Looking To Diversify, Wants Platform 'Less Reliant' On Transaction Volumes

As "macro uncertainty" and President Donald Trump&#8216;s tariffs become the go-to scapegoats for CEOs this earnings season, fund manager Gary Black isn&#8217;t buying it.
What Happened: On Tuesday, Black posted on X, citing former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's famous quote, &#8220;Never let a good crisis go to waste,&#8221; as he accused CEOs of using tariffs and economic uncertainty as cover during earnings season to justify either pulling or scaling back their 2025 guidance.

According to another Tesla investor, Sawyer Merritt, the electric vehicle company is offering its brand-new 2024 Model 3 Performance vehicles for just $41,490, a price that already includes the $7,500 federal EV credit. Buyers also get 10% off, 0% APR financing, and a free transfer of Full Self-Driving capabilities. Deep Blue Metallic and Pearl White paint colors, along with a white interior, are now included at no extra cost.
Merritt highlighted the offer <a href="https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1915962973979320647">on X</a>, calling it &#8220;a lot of value for the money.&#8221; But Gerber had a different reaction, <a href="https://x.com/GerberKawasaki/status/1916165487614169145?t=MYU7mzO-E3ofqSdfEstm8Q&amp;s=03">posting</a>, &#8220;Someone please come buy a Tesla. Tesla&#8217;s stock has fallen sharply in 2025, weighed down by slumping demand and Musk&#8217;s growing political involvement. <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/25/04/45027834/ross-gerber-says-elon-musk-a-negative-for-tesla-stock-trumps-win-proved-not-good-at-all-for-company">Tesla&#8217;s deliveries dropped 13%</a> year-over-year in the first quarter, and sales in Europe plunged 49% in the first two months.

In a Schwab Network <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcOVZf7FWEg&amp;t=97s">interview</a>, Gerber said Musk&#8217;s public image is hurting Tesla, explaining that consumers &#8220;need to feel good&#8221; about buying a Tesla. Instead, he said people are afraid of the controversy attached to the brand.
&#8220;The woes seem to just keep adding up, and the stock has come back to earth because the Musk positive has been offset now with Musk negative,&#8221; he said.
Gerber also said Musk&#8217;s &#8220;huge bet&#8221; on President Donald Trump has backfired. &#8220;The perception at the time was like this is going to be great for Tesla, but now that he&#8217;s there, it&#8217;s how is this good, and it turns out it&#8217;s not good at all. And now people are burning Teslas,&#8221; he told Schwab Network.
While Gerber still holds Tesla stock, he warns the company needs to meet Wall Street's 2025 earnings expectations to avoid a bigger drop. Otherwise, he says, &#8220;Tesla could go meaningfully lower.&#8221;

'Someone Please Come Buy A Tesla. Anyone...' Says Ross Gerber As He Mocks Tesla's Desperate Incentives

Most people, when their spouse asks for a minivan, grab a Honda or a Chrysler and call it a day. Not Mark Zuckerberg. He grabbed a Porsche — and then redesigned it to fit his wife's wish list.
In October, the Meta CEO shared the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DAzDZ1-RCTB/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">project on Instagram</a>, kicking off what he called a "new side quest." His caption read:
"New side quest. Priscilla wanted a minivan, so I've been designing something I'm pretty sure should exist: a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT Minivan. Threw in a manual GT3 Touring to make it his and hers. Thanks @porsche and @westcoastcustoms for helping to make this happen."

Not everyone dreams of driving a minivan — and Zuckerberg clearly wasn't about to settle for one either. Instead, he set out to create something practical enough for a growing family but still cool enough to park next to a row of supercars.
Since Porsche doesn't make a minivan, Zuckerberg teamed up with West Coast Customs — the shop made famous by Pimp My Ride — to turn a Cayenne Turbo GT into a one-of-a-kind family hauler. They stretched the wheelbase, added power sliding doors, installed a third row of seats, and gave it the sort of swagger minivans usually don't get.
And because one custom Porsche wasn't enough, Zuckerberg added a second to the garage. He picked up a Porsche 911 GT3 Touring in the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mark-zuckerberg-priscilla-chan-porsche-turbo-gt-cayenne-minivan-2024-10">same Crayon gray color</a>, creating a matching "his-and-hers" set — one for hauling kids, one for hauling… well, everything else.

It's the kind of move that's part practical, part flex — and very on brand for Zuckerberg, who's no stranger to big gestures. Earlier in 2024, he <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C-naZ9NvQNu/">commissioned a marble statue</a> of Chan, a nod to ancient Roman traditions. The Instagram caption read, "Bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife." Apparently, custom Porsches and statues both make the gift list.
Interestingly, Porsche once toyed with the idea of a minivan too — though theirs stayed tucked safely in the concept garage. In 2020, the company <a href="https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2021/innovation/porsche-interior-future-ux-vision-renndienst-25042.html">unveiled the Vision "Renndienst,"</a> a futuristic, family-friendly space designed to seat up to six people. It was first dreamed up in 2018 and even got a full-size model, but Porsche never moved forward with production. So while Zuckerberg's creation might seem out of left field, he's not the first to wonder what a Porsche minivan could actually look like.

They share three daughters: Maxima, August, and Aurelia. While Zuckerberg's usual daily driver is reportedly a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, his newly customized Cayenne minivan might be the most famous family car on the internet right now.
And if Porsche ever decides it's time to actually build a minivan, they might want to give Zuckerberg a consulting fee.
