If you&#8217;re still anchored to the &#8220;Lost Decade&#8221; narrative, it&#8217;s time to adjust your compass.
Start with the big picture: inflation in Japan is finally here, and that is a good thing. After years of trying to nudge price levels higher, the Bank of Japan has achieved something that once seemed impossible, a headline inflation rate over 3% and core-core inflation (which strips out food and energy) around 2.8%.
This is not runaway inflation. This is normalization. It is the end of a deflationary mindset that has kept consumers cautious and wages stagnant. Speaking of which, wages are now rising too, thanks to tight labor markets and a shrinking workforce that has finally given employees some bargaining power. Real wage growth is still lagging a bit, but the trajectory is right.
On the monetary policy front, the Bank of Japan made headlines in March 2024 by finally ending its negative interest rate policy. That marked the first rate hike in 17 years and the symbolic end of an era of extraordinary easing. It also marked Japan&#8217;s return to monetary policy normalcy. Gone is the yield curve control regime. In its place is a traditional rate targeting system like those used in the U.S. and Europe. Japan is no longer the outlier. Then there&#8217;s the stock market. Japan&#8217;s equity market has finally caught fire. After languishing for over three decades below its 1989 high, the Nikkei 225 finally eclipsed that peak in 2024, closing in on 42,000 and leading the world in equity performance.
That move wasn&#8217;t driven by speculative mania, but by real earnings growth, aggressive share buybacks, and long-overdue reforms in corporate governance. The Tokyo Stock Exchange has pushed companies to raise ROE and address chronically low price-to-book ratios. Firms are responding. Cross-shareholdings are down, boards are becoming more independent, and management teams are starting to think more like owners.
Foreign investors are noticing too. Warren Buffett made headlines by boosting his stakes in Japan&#8217;s trading houses. Institutions across the globe are following suit, shifting exposure out of China and into Japan. The yen, once battered by interest rate differentials, is now finding its footing as the BoJ lifts off zero.
In KKR&#8217;s 2025 Outlook, they specifically highlight Japan as a key opportunity area: &#8220;We see opportunities in inter-company holdings. There is an accelerating unwind of Japanese strategic holdings within the corporate sector, encouraging a wave of stock buybacks. Investors are finally being rewarded.
Bottom line: Japan isn&#8217;t the basket case it used to be. It&#8217;s becoming a compelling story again—one that belongs in any serious global investor&#8217;s playbook. If you&#8217;re looking for value, reform, and upside, it might be time to look East. Japan is back in the game.

While Wall Street and financial media remain fixated on flashier tech names, real value investors understand that essential services with diversified revenue streams often deliver steadier returns.
Kansai operates through four distinct segments &#8211; energy, power transmission, IT/telecommunications, and lifestyle solutions &#8211; creating multiple paths to profitability regardless of economic conditions.
Their telecom operations under the &#8220;eo Hikari&#8221; brand and &#8220;mineo&#8221; mobile business represent the kind of steady cash flow businesses value investors prize.
What particularly catches my attention is their international expansion strategy. "In case after case, our citizens pay massively higher prices than other nations pay for the same exact pill, from the same factory, effectively subsidizing socialism aboard [abroad] with skyrocketing prices at home," Trump said in <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/05/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-announces-actions-to-put-american-patients-first-by-lowering-drug-prices-and-stopping-foreign-free-riding-on-american-pharmaceutical-innovation/">a statement</a>. 
Drug manufacturers have 30 days to voluntarily lower prices for prescription drugs in the U.S. to match those paid in other advanced nations.&nbsp;
If companies do not comply, the Department of Health and Human Services, led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is tasked with developing rules to enforce most-favored nation (MFN) pricing or other regulatory measures.&nbsp;
The HHS is also instructed to establish mechanisms for Americans to purchase drugs directly from manufacturers at the MFN price, bypassing pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and other intermediaries.&nbsp;

Why It Matters: The executive order is a rare show of common ground between the Trump administration and Democratic leaders like Senator Bernie Sanders, who has long fought for laws aimed at making medicine more affordable.
And Trump has tried this before. During his first term, he signed a similar <a href="https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-lowering-drug-prices-putting-america-first-2/">order</a> that the courts ultimately blocked after the pharmaceutical industry lobbied against it.
Sanders fears the same thing might happen again. In a <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:upw5n2uwhzubjajdtqaufsek/post/3loyh44tra225?ref_src=embed&amp;ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.commondreams.org%252Fnews%252Ftrump-executive-order-drug-prices">post</a> on the Bluesky social network, he agreed that it is &#8220;an outrage that the American people pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs.&#8221;
&#8220;As Trump well knows, his executive order will be thrown out by the courts,&#8221; said Sanders. &#8220;If Trump is serious about making real change rather than just issuing a press release, he will support legislation I will soon be introducing to make sure we pay no more for prescription drugs than people in other major countries. If Republicans and Democrats come together on this legislation, we can get it passed in a few weeks.&#8221;
Pharmaceutical stocks dropped in Monday's premarket trading, but recovered into positive territory by the market close.
Analysts and investors decided the order was less-specific than feared and likely to be challenged in court. 
"A drug pricing announcement had been expected for a while now and had weighed on stocks in this sector, so the official executive order doesn&#8217;t seem to be impacting sentiment too much,&#8221; said James Harlow, senior vice president at Novare Capital Management, per Reuters.&nbsp;
In contrast, Trump&#8217;s comments of &#8220;cutting out the middlemen&#8221; weighed on shares of companies that own pharmacy benefit managers like The Cigna Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CI#NYSE">CI</a>), CVS Health Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CVS#NYSE">CVS</a>) and UnitedHeath Group Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UNH#NYSE">UNH</a>).&nbsp;
"I would cut out the middlemen," Trump said. "Everybody should equalize. Everybody should pay the same price."
Shares of UnitedHealth plunged Tuesday after<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45373368/unitedhealth-stock-plunges-names-new-ceo-suspends-2025-guidance"> the company</a> pulled its 2025 outlook, citing that care activity continued to accelerate and CEO Andrew Witty unexpectedly resigned.&nbsp;

What To Watch: The executive order threatens the PBM business model by enabling direct-to-consumer drug purchases, which could significantly reduce the need for PBMs&#8217; negotiating and administrative services. However, legal experts have raised concerns about the legality of direct-to-consumer sales.&nbsp;
"This order's suggestion of broader or direct-to-consumer importation stretches well beyond what the statute allows," warned health policy lawyer, Paul Kim, per the New York Post.&nbsp;
Investors in the healthcare sector may choose to mitigate risk and exposure to PBMs through a diversified healthcare ETF like the SPDR Select Health Care Sector Fund (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XLV#NYSE">XLV</a>) which holds shares of pharmaceuticals, health care equipment and supplies and health care providers.&nbsp;
An ETF like the iShares U.S. Medical Devices ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ITI#NYSE">ITI</a>) which tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Select Medical Equipment Index and invests in leading U.S. medical device companies also offers exposure to the healthcare industry while reducing exposure to pharmaceutical benefit managers.&nbsp;

Rekt Capital <a href="https://x.com/rektcapital/status/1922009907198328913">highlighted</a> DOGE currently retesting a key pre-halving resistance zone as new support. If this level holds, the next upside target is $0.27.
Meanwhile, CryptoGuru <a href="https://x.com/BDCryptoGuru/status/1922242833328570681">noted</a> Shiba Inu has broken out cleanly from a descending channel with a 68% move. 
As long as the current pullback holds above this level, the bullish setup remains intact. 
He advises watching for volume and support confirmation for potential continuation.

Shibburn data shows that 14.6 million SHIB tokens were burned in the past 24 hours, continuing the trend of reducing supply, a key factor that can contribute to upward price pressure.
Shibariumscan reports daily transactions rose from 4.16 million to 4.21 million within a single day, signaling growing on-chain activity.
According to IntoTheBlock, Shiba Inu also saw a massive 214.3% spike in large transaction volume over the same period. 
Daily active addresses climbed 13.8%, while high-value transactions (over $100,000) jumped from 115 to 195 — underscoring rising interest from larger players and increasing network engagement.
