Florida GOP Senator <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/marco-rubio">Marco Rubio</a> is President-elect <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a>'s <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/41959835/trump-nominates-marco-rubio-as-secretary-of-state-calls-florida-senator-a-powerful-voice-for-freedom">pick for the role</a> of Secretary of State.
Trump praised Rubio (53) as a "highly respected leader" and a "powerful voice for freedom." But, will he be that open-minded when it comes to cannabis policy reform?
Judging by his earlier stance, what's left for cannabis shareholders and advocates, is hope.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Rubio Is Just Not That Into Cannabis</h3>
In a 2022 <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63UZT6rEAdQ">interview</a> with a Pensacola TV station, Rubio revealed his reasons for taking a stance against federal cannabis legalization. The concept of cannabis as a "gateway" drug, or one leading users to more dangerous drugs, was one of his main concerns.
&#8220;When you decriminalize something, the message that you&#8217;re basically sending people is it must not be that bad,&#8221; Rubio said, as <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/22/04/26666538/marco-rubio-reveals-why-he-opposes-cannabis-legalization">highlighted</a> by Benzinga's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/author/nina-zdinjak">Nina Zdinjak</a>. &#8220;Now, suddenly, you&#8217;re an 18- or 17-year-old, [and you] say,&nbsp;&#8216;well, I know marijuana, you tell me not to smoke it, but you know what? It can&#8217;t be that bad, because the federal government made it legal.'&#8221;
At the time, Rubio also argued that cannabis bought from illegal sources has been&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/19/09/14451540/report-synthetic-marijuana-fentanyl-found-in-cbd-labeled-products">laced with the strong opioid fentanyl</a>, a drug involved in about 30,000 overdose deaths last year.&nbsp;

Asked by the Daily Mail nearly a decade ago whether he ever used cannabis, Rubio answered ambiguously, <a href="https://reason.com/2015/02/04/why-wont-marco-rubio-admit-he-smoked-pot/">reported</a> Reason. 
"I&#8217;ll tell you why I never answer that question,&#8221; he said back in 2014. &#8220;If I tell you that I haven&#8217;t, you won&#8217;t believe me. And if I tell you that I did, then kids will look up to me and say, &#8216;well, I can smoke marijuana because look how he made it.'&#8221;
That&#8217;s because there's "no responsible way to recreationally use" marijuana, according to Rubio, <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/marco-rubio-marijuana_n_5352382">reported</a> HuffPost.
This stance doesn't come as a surprise considering that in 2014 he expressed his support for continued criminal penalties for recreational cannabis use. "I don&#8217;t think legalizing marijuana or even decriminalizing it is the right decision for our country,&#8221; Rubio said as <a href="https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/2024/09/19/better-justice-system-florida-should-legalize-recreational-marijuana-heres-why/">reported</a> by Tampa Bay.
Moreover, during his unsuccessful 2016 presidential campaign, he openly supported cracking down on states that have legalized marijuana and enforcing the law, that prohibits marijuana, <a href="https://www.browardpalmbeach.com/news/marco-rubio-says-hed-crack-down-on-marijuana-if-elected-president-7174851">reported</a> Broward Palm Beach New Times. "I believe the federal government needs to enforce federal law,&#8221; he said at the time.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">But…</h3>
Interestingly, Rubio also said medical use of cannabis is something he could consider if it is the non-psychoactive type.
In 2016, he reiterated his stance on the recreational use of cannabis, but slightly amended his view on medical marijuana, <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/feb/11/rubio-no-responsible-way-habitual-marijuana-use/">reported</a> the Washington Times. He said "If there's a medicinal use — if you can go to the FDA and prove that it helps with medicine, that's fine. Then turn it into medicine."
Keeping in mind that Rubio once referred to Trump as "the most vulgar person," one cannot help but wonder whether Rubio will take a U-turn on cannabis. Or is the saying "The fox changes its fur but not its vice," a more probable scenario?

Oklo Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/OKLO#NYSE">OKLO</a>) reported third-quarter financial results after the market close on Thursday. Here&#8217;s a rundown of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/11/b41988748/oklo-publishes-third-quarter-2024-financial-results-and-business-update">nuclear company&#8217;s report</a>.
Q3 Earnings: Oklo reported a third-quarter loss of eight cents per share, according to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga Pro</a>. The Sam Altman-backed company noted it used $24.9 million of cash in operations year-to-date.
Oklo reported operating losses of $37.4 million since the start of the year. The company said it remains on track to meet its full-year operating loss forecast of $40 to $50 million.
Oklo ended the quarter with $288.5 million in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities. 
&#8220;We are entering an era of unprecedented energy demand — rivaled perhaps only by initial conversion to electrification over a century ago. The world is now recognizing nuclear's role in powering that future,&#8221; said Jacob DeWitte, co-founder and CEO of Oklo.
&#8220;Momentum is building every week — regulators are modernizing, bipartisan support is growing and some of the most influential companies are investing heavily in the space.&#8221;

Oklo announced earlier this week that it&#8217;s partnering with two major data center providers to deliver up to 750 MW of power. The commitments bring Oklo's customer pipeline up to approximately 2,100 MW.
Oklo also said it plans to submit its combined license application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) during the first half of 2025.
&#8220;With a site permit and secured fuel, we believe we're poised to be a leader in deploying advanced nuclear by late 2027. As the world experiences an extraordinary transformation driven by AI, the future demands an equally bold solution for energy. We're proud to lead the way,&#8221; DeWitte said. 
Management will hold a call to discuss the quarter with investors and analysts at 4:30 p.m. ET.

This is a 183.33 percent increase over losses of $(0.06) per share from the same period last year. The company reported quarterly sales of $9.31 million which missed the analyst consensus estimate of $10.88 million by 14.38 percent. This is a 6.81 percent increase over sales of $8.72 million the same period last year.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell indicated Thursday the remarkable strength of the U.S. economy is not sending any signals that policymakers &#8220;need to be in a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/interest-rates">hurry to lower rates.&#8221;</a>
Powell&#8217;s remarks came at an event organized by the Dallas Regional Chamber on Thursday, just a week after his press conference following the November Federal Reserve meeting.
&#8220;Inflation is running much closer to our 2% longer-run goal, but it is not there yet. We are committed to finishing the job,&#8221; Powell said. 
The Fed chair hinted that interest rates may be moving &#8220;to a more neutral setting,&#8221; but stressed that &#8220;the path for getting there is not preset.&#8221;
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Powell Hints At Economic Strength, Warns About Risk Of Tariff Retaliations</h3>
Powell described the U.S. economy&#8217;s recent performance as &#8220;by far the best of any major economy in the world.&#8221; He attributed this strength in part to increased productivity.
&#8220;Productivity has grown faster over the past five years than its pace in the two decades before the pandemic, increasing the productive capacity of the economy and allowing rapid economic growth without overheating,&#8221; he said.
This resilience in the economy, according to Powell, gives the Federal Reserve the flexibility to &#8220;approach our decisions carefully,&#8221; though he underscored that the future path of interest rates would depend on how incoming data and economic forecasts evolve.
Powell expressed confidence that, with careful adjustments to the Fed's policy stance, the strength of both the economy and the labor market could be preserved, while inflation trends back down to the Fed&#8217;s 2% target.
Regarding the labor market, Powell downplayed the significance of the October jobs report, noting it was influenced by temporary factors such as hurricanes and labor strikes.
He also indicated no urgency to change Fed policy in response to potential shifts in fiscal policy under the new Trump&#8217;s administration.
&#8220;It takes quite a long time to get a bill through Congress. We have time to make assessments about what the net effects of policy changes will be on the economy before we work with policy,&#8221; he said.
Powell reiterated his concern over the U.S. fiscal trajectory, calling it &#8220;unsustainable.&#8221; 
&#8220;We have a very large deficit at a time when we&#8217;re at full employment,&#8221; Powell said, adding that he and recommended addressing it &#8220;sooner rather than later.&#8221;
When asked about the impact of higher trade tariffs on monetary policy, Powell was cautious but said scenarios involving retaliatory measures from other countries would require close monitoring by the Fed.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>
Powell's cautious remarks about the path for interest rates led to a sharp repricing of December rate cut expectations. 
According to the CME FedWatch tool, the probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut in December has dropped, with Fed futures now indicating a 62% chance, down from prior estimates of nearly 80%.
In response, the U.S. dollar rallied, extending its winning streak to five sessions. Treasury yields also reversed course, with significant gains across the curve as investors adjusted their rate expectations. The yield on the two-year Treasury note, which is particularly sensitive to Fed policy shifts, jumped 6 basis points to 4.34%.
Equity markets reacted negatively to Powell's tone. Major U.S. indices turned lower, with the S&amp;P 500, tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>), down 0.7%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq-100, represented by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), slipped 0.8%.
Small-cap stocks suffered the most, with the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IWM#NYSE">IWM</a>) dropping 1.3%, signaling broader risk aversion among investors.

Ming-Chia Huang is leading MKDWELL following the merger. This has him acting as the founder, chairman and CEO of the company. Min-jie Cui is acting as the Chief Financial Officer of the company. Ming-Chao Huang is serving as the executive chairman of the board of directors.



MKDWELL&nbsp;is a technology company focused on operations in mainland China and Taiwan. The company seeks to develop state-of-the-art research and manufacturing facilities in these areas.

Shares of MKDX stock are rising higher on Friday with a 53% gain as of this morning. That&rsquo;s quite the jump considering the shares only started trading publicly yesterday. It also comes with 14.6 million shares traded as of this writing.
