Addressing the future of AI amid the emergence of DeepSeek's modestly priced models, Chanda said, &#8220;AI is going to be more accessible, affordable and omni-present over the coming years.&#8221;

Activist investor Dan Loeb&#8216;s Third Point LLC <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/dan-loeb">adjusted its portfolio</a> in the third quarter of 2024, trimming stakes in several major companies, including technology and utility stocks.
PCG: Third Point reduced shares in one of the leading natural gas and electric energy companies, Pacific Gas &amp; Electric Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PCG#NYSE">PCG</a>), to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1040273/000108514624005927/xslForm13F_X02/infotable.xml" rel="noreferrer noopener">49.7 </a>million in the third quarter of FY24 from 56.9 million shares in the third quarter of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1040273/000108514623004511/xslForm13F_X02/infotable.xml" rel="noreferrer noopener">FY23</a>.
Although the investor gradually lowered shares in the company throughout the period, the stock is still the fund's largest&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/25/01/42788070/hedge-fund-giant-dan-loebs-pge-bet-beats-market" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">holding as of Sept. 30, 2024.</a>
The stock declined 4.4% in the last year, underperforming the Vanguard Utilities Index Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VPU#NYSE">VPU</a>), which has&nbsp;gained 29.2%&nbsp;over the same time frame.
Importantly, the company reported a third-quarter adjusted EPS of 37 cents, exceeding analysts' expectations of 33 cents, but revenue of $5.94 billion, falling short of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/large-cap/25/01/42788070/hedge-fund-giant-dan-loebs-pge-bet-beats-market" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the&nbsp;consensus estimate of $6.61 billion</a>.
The company will report fourth-quarter <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">results on Feb. 13, 2025</a>.

AMZN: Apart from this, the investor cut shares in technology giant Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) to 3.7 million in the third quarter of FY24 from 4.9 million in the third quarter of FY23.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Notably, Third Point increased its AMZN shares in the <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1040273/000108514624002645/xslForm13F_X02/infotable.xml" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">first </a>quarter of 2024 but lowered the number in the third quarter of 2024.
Amazon&#8217;s share escalated 40.51% in the last year, outperforming the Fidelity MSCI Consumer Discretionary Index ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FDIS#NYSE">FDIS</a>), which has&nbsp;surged 29.81%&nbsp;over the same time frame.
Notably, Amazon reported the company posted mixed&nbsp;second-quarter&nbsp;FY24 results and gave soft third-quarter <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/40131294" rel="noreferrer noopener">guidance in August 2024</a>.
On Aug. 5, 2024 the company&#8217;s shares dropped to a six-month low of $151.61 in intraday trading, breaching the 21-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages.
MSFT: Moreover, Third Point significantly curtailed shares in software giant Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) to 870,000 shares in third-quarter FY24 from 2.2 million in third-quarter FY23.
The stock gained 2.4% over the past year, lagging the&nbsp;&nbsp;iShares U.S. Technology ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IYW#NYSE">IYW</a>), which rose 22.9% in the same period.
META: The investor slashed shares by half in Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) to 545,000 shares in third-quarter FY24 from 1.1 million in <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1040273/000108514624004004/xslForm13F_X02/infotable.xml" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the </a>second quarter of 2024.
The company&#8217;s share jumped 51.6% in the last year, outperforming the iShares Global Comm Services ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IXP#NYSE">IXP</a>), which upped 28.8%&nbsp;over the same time frame.

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Microsoft&#8217;s Q2 Earnings Highlights</h1>
Microsoft reported earnings per share of $3.23, surpassing the $3.11 consensus estimate and improving from the prior-year earnings of $2.93 per share. Revenue climbed 12% year-over-year to $69.6 billion, slightly ahead of the consensus estimate of $68.70 billion.
Revenue from the Intelligent Cloud segment rose 19% year-over-year to $25.54 billion, with Office 365 Commercial and Dynamics 365 registering sales growth of 16% and 19%, respectively. The Azure cloud computing platform reported a 31% year-over-year revenue increase, marking a slowdown from 33% in the previous quarter.
Despite exceeding Wall Street expectations in the second quarter, Microsoft&#8217;s forecast for slower cloud growth raised concerns among investors, leading to a post-earnings decline in its stock price.
It is important to note that Microsoft has guided revenue growth across key segments for the fiscal third quarter. The company expects:
 • Productivity and Business Processes revenue between $29.4 billion and $29.7 billion, an 11%-12% growth (constant currency) year-over-year.
• Office Consumer and Cloud Services are anticipated to grow in the mid-to-high single digits, LinkedIn in the low-to-mid single digits, and Dynamics in the mid-teens. 
• Intelligent Cloud revenue is forecasted between $25.9 billion and $26.2 billion, with Azure growing 31%-32% at constant currency. 
• Enterprise Services revenue is expected to grow in the low-to-mid single digits, while Server product revenue is projected to decline in the mid-single digits.

Biographer Seth Abramson, who says he is writing a biography of Elon Musk, has expressed concerns over the mental health of the billionaire entrepreneur, citing his recent online behavior.
What Happened:&nbsp;In a post on X last week, Abramson, who has been tracking Musk&#8217;s online activities for the past two years, voiced his fears about Musk&#8217;s mental wellbeing. 
He stated, &#8220;I legitimately believe Elon Musk may be going mad. I&#8217;m a Musk biographer who has been tracking his online behavior for the last two years, and given that he&#8217;s admitted to all of mental illness, heavy drug use, and crippling stress, it is now reasonable to fear he is deeply unwell.&#8221;

More Than A Third Of AI-Based ETFs Were Launched In 2024, Focusing On Nvidia, Microsoft, Apple And Meta, Among Others: Here's How Some Of Them Have Performed This Year So Far

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) shares may not rise very much when the tech giant debuts the iPhone 16 on Monday because much of the anticipation is already baked into the stock, but the new phone should give some <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/09/40680904/7-products-apple-will-likely-discontinue-next-week-after-iphone-16-launch">legs to the stock </a>over the next year, according to a tech expert. 
"I think the announcement is typically going to be a disappointment," Deepwater Asset Management managing partner Gene Munster told Benzinga on Tuesday. 
"I don't expect it to trade up on the event."
Munster&#8217;s expectation is the shares will start rising considerably after the company reports its third-quarter earnings in late October because consumers and investors will have had time to explore the iPhone&#8217;s expected artificial intelligence features, he said. 
&#8220;I think they&#8217;re really gonna catch on,&#8221; Munster said.
&#8220;Once that starts happening into next year, that&#8217;s when the excitement really goes, but this is going to be the disappointment before the excitement. I think this year is really going to be a great 12 months for Apple.&#8221;

Sales for iPhone may grow as much as 15% next year versus Wall Street expectations of 7% because the iPhone 16 may convince 10% of iPhone users who planned on upgrading in 2026 to do so next year, he said. 
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s conservative to say 10% because there&#8217;s a group that&#8217;s just going upgrade this year because it&#8217;s time. Their phone is five years old they&#8217;re just gonna get a new phone.&#8221; 
The higher revenue will move the stock higher, Munster said, but he declined to predict a number. 
The question is how many users who initially planned to upgrade in 2026, 2027 and 2028 will go for the iPhone 16 in 2025 as a result of the new AI features, Munster said.
&#8220;These pools are so massive that just a small increase in that uptake has a measurable impact on revenue growth,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;I think the bottom line is if &nbsp;the AI features are as exciting as I believe, they&#8217;re going to have a massive wave of upgrades.&#8221;
Munster recalled iPhone sales growing 52% 10 years ago when the iPhone 6 came out with a bigger screen.
"Small changes to features can have big impact to growth,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;That&#8217;s the key question. Do you think these features are going to spur big upgrade cycle?&#8221;
AAPL Price Action: Apple lost 2.72% in Tuesday&#8217;s session, closing at $222.77. Exchange-traded funds that hold the stock performed as follows:

Price Action: Apple Inc., which is scheduled to release third-quarter earnings after Thursday&#8217;s close, rose 1.01% to $224.32 in Thursday&#8217;s premarket trading, while exchange-traded funds that hold the stock also trended upward.

Apple Higher Education Offer Spans Globe, Gives Discounts To College Students

Goldman Sachs expects Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/07/40029731/apple-operating-in-an-alternative-universe-says-top-analyst-as-cupertinos-strategy-will-likely-w">beat analyst expectations</a> when it reports third-quarter earnings after Thursday&#8217;s closing bell.
The tech giant should exceed Wall Street consensus of $1.33 earnings per share (EPS) by 3 cents on Thursday, according to Goldman Sachs analyst Michael Ng. He predicted revenue for the quarter to come in at $85.1 billion, up 4% from $81.8 billion in revenue posted a year ago.
&#8220;While Apple's iPad market share has lagged in recent quarters relative to history, we expect the recently announced new iPad models (May 7) should benefit market share in F3Q24,&#8221; he wrote in a note.
&#8220;The new iPad models represented the first new iPads since October 2022.&#8221;
Goldman Sachs maintains a Buy rating on Apple because it believes the company&#8217;s focus on slower product revenue growth does not reflect its growth in services and product innovation, Ng said.

&#8220;The majority of gross profit growth over the next five years should be driven by services, which should mark an inflection point in the services investment narrative,&#8221; he wrote.
&#8220;The durability of Apple's installed base and the resulting revenue growth visibility from attaching more services and products is what underpins the recurring revenue &#8212; or Apple-as-a-Service &#8212; opportunity.&#8221;
But Apple is exposed to downside risks such as weakening consumer demand for products and services, supply chain disruption and growing competition, Ng said.
&#8220;Although Apple is the largest company and the most well resourced among its competitors, it is not the market leader in every single business line,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;For instance, in video streaming, it faces several key competitors that invest more heavily than Apple in content.&#8221;
Price Action: Apple was down 0.3% to $217.54 at the time of publication Tuesday.

Last week, Apple reclaimed the most valuable company title, edging out Microsoft, but is unable to sustain the momentum. The iPhone maker currently has a market cap of $3.26 trillion, whereas the software maker boasts $3.29 trillion.

Apple, which was way behind its competitors in adopting AI, is finally catching up following the launch of the latest AI features at its long-anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference. The introduction of numerous AI-powered features is expected to kickstart the next upgrade cycle, enhancing the company&#39;s performance and restoring investor confidence in Apple. 
The iPhone maker unveiled a brand-new AI feature called Apple Intelligence for iPhones, iPads and Macs. The technology will help summarize text, create original images and retrieve the most relevant data when users need it. Apple announced a partnership with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI, which provides customers access to ChatGPT via Siri at no extra cost. 
Apple reported robust second-quarter fiscal 2024 results, beating both earnings and revenue estimates. The tech giant unveiled the largest buyback in the company&#39;s history and lifted its dividend payment. 
Microsoft 
The world&#39;s largest software maker also reported strong third-quarter fiscal 2024 results, beating earnings and revenue estimates, driven by the strong demand for cloud and artificial intelligence offerings. 
Microsoft has invested billions of dollars into AI in a bid to turbocharge its growth, particularly its cloud computing services, and is now reaping the fruits. About 7% of the increase in Azure revenues came from AI. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on the last reported quarter&#39;s earnings call that 65% of Fortune 500 companies are using the Azure service that delivers OpenAI&#39;s technology to businesses. Demand for generative AI will continue to fuel Microsoft&#39;s cloud business. 
Microsoft is now emphasizing AI transformation through its new offerings like Microsoft Copilot. &quot;Microsoft Copilot and Copilot stack are orchestrating a new era of AI transformation, driving better business outcomes across every role and industry,&quot; Nadella added.

Apple Vs. Microsoft 
Microsoft is leading the way this year, having gained 17.7% versus Apple&#39;s rise of 10.4%. Both stocks currently have a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) and a Momentum Score of A, along with a solid Zacks Industry Rank in the top 23%. 
Though Microsoft has a Growth Score of B, meaning that it is primed for strong growth, Apple looks relatively cheaper at the current levels as it is trading at a P/E ratio of 32.30 versus 37.60 for Microsoft. Apple&#39;s earnings are expected to grow 7.3% for the fiscal year (ending Sep 2024), lower than the industry average of 30.68%. However, its revenues will likely increase 0.4%, much higher than the industry&#39;s growth of 0.03%.

Apple currently has an average brokerage recommendation&nbsp;of 1.75, up from 1.82 a month ago, made by 30 brokerage firms. Of those deriving the current ABR, 18 are Strong Buy and three are Buy. Strong Buy and Buy, respectively, account for 60% and 10% of all recommendations. A month ago, Strong Buy made up 56.67%, whereas Buy represented 10%. 
Meanwhile, Microsoft has an ABR of 1.13 made by 39 brokerage firms. Of these deriving the current ABR, 35 are Strong Buy and three are Buy. XLK has the largest 44.1% share in both AAPL and MSFT, followed by 33.7% for IYW, 32.8% for FTEC and 32.6% for VGT.
