Major indexes are trading higher amid volatility and ahead of tariff announcements. Additionally, strong employment ADP data may also be buoying markets and investor sentiment.

Wall Street extends gains on Wednesday, as investors remain resilient in their risk appetite despite the looming announcement of sweeping trade tariffs <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">by President Donald Trump.</a>
The president is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/wgmKYg-zK9o">scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. ET</a> on what he dubbed "Liberation Day," with expectations pointing to the imposition of tariffs around 20% on a broad range of goods.
The S&amp;P 500 is up 0.8%, aiming for what could become its third consecutive positive session. The Nasdaq 100 is also rebounding strongly, rising 1.1%, while small-cap stocks outperform large caps, with the Russell 2000 climbing 1.5%.
Nearly all sectors are in the green, except defensive consumer staples. Consumer discretionary and tech lead the way in performance.
Treasury yields are on the rise, with the 30-year yield hitting 4.57%, up 5 basis points, dragging the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) down by 0.7%.
The latest ADP Employment Report showed a stronger-than-expected pace of private payroll growth in March, reinforcing the resilience of the U.S. labor market despite the tariff-related uncertainties.
In corporate news, The New York Times reported that Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) submitted a last-ditch bid to acquire TikTok, the popular video app, as it nears an April deadline to separate from its Chinese owner or face a potential U.S. ban. Shares of the e-commerce giant rallied 2.4%.
The U.S. dollar index fell 0.3%, while gold and oil prices both gained 0.6%. Crypto sentiment remained positive, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) surging 2.5% to trade above $87,000.

Wall Street Rebounds Ahead Of Tariff Announcement, Small Caps Rally, Bitcoin Hits $87,000: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?

Major indexes are trading lower. Policy uncertainty and anticipation of further tariff announcements may be weighing on investor sentiment and contributing to overall market weakness.

Following the worst quarterly performance for U.S. stocks in over two years, caution dominated Wall Street as investors awaited details on the tariff plans expected from the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">Trump administration on Wednesday.</a>
On Tuesday, a Washington Post report suggested the administration is considering a sweeping 20% tariff on most of the $3 trillion in annual imports.
Survey data showed that goods-producing businesses had been front-loading purchases ahead of the expected tariffs by the end of first quarter, with inventory levels rising and input cost pressures<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/04/44588076/us-manufacturing-slips-into-contraction-as-tariff-driven-costs-hit-near-3-year-high"> hitting a three-year high.</a>
Major indexes showed little movement by midday in New York, with the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 posting modest gains.
Notably, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>), and Lucid Group Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LCID#NASDAQ">LCID</a>) each jumped around 6% as investors viewed them as potential winners from auto-related tariffs. 
Reports last week highlighted that all three manufacture vehicles entirely in the U.S., giving them a competitive edge over peers like Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) and General Motors Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>).
Treasuries climbed as yields fell, and gold took a breather after hitting a record $3,122 per ounce. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rose more than 3% to over $85,000, marking its strongest session in three weeks.

<li>American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAL#NASDAQ">AAL</a>) fell to the lowest level since late August, after Jefferies downgraded the stock from &#8216;Buy&#8217; to &#8216;Hold&#8217; and reduced its price target from $20.00 to $12.00.</li>

Wall Street Inches Up Ahead Of Tariff Day: What's Driving Markets Tuesday?

Risk sentiment remains under pressure at the start of the week on Wall Street, with tech-heavy indexes sliding while commodities advance, as traders fear a new wave of price pressures following <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">the upcoming tariffs announcement.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 experienced a turbulent morning session, first hitting its lowest level in over six months before clawing back some ground and trimming losses. Nevertheless, the benchmark equity index is on track for its worst month since September 2022, having fallen 7% in March.
Tech stocks remained the weakest link, with the Nasdaq 100 down 1.1% as semiconductor names weighed on the broader sector. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) dropped 1.9% and is down 11.9% month-to-date — also marking its worst month since September 2022.
President Donald Trump's threats toward Iran over the weekend pushed crude oil prices up by 3.5% for the session, marking the biggest single-day gain since October.
Energy-related stocks outperformed and are on pace to log their fourth consecutive positive month, now up 8.5% year-to-date.
Meanwhile, gold prices continued to smash record highs, with bullion surging over 1% to $3,115 per ounce. Quarterly gains have reached 18% — the strongest three-month rally since 2009.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) inched up 1.2% to $83,400, fighting to avoid a second consecutive monthly decline.

Stocks Fall, S&P 500 Eyes Worst Month In Almost Two Years, Oil Rallies: What's Driving Markets Monday?

Markets faltered on Friday, with Wall Street reeling as investors hurried to shed risk in the face of mounting <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44537936/consumer-inflation-expectations-skyrocket-in-march-hit-highest-levels-in-32-years">inflation and tariff uncertainties.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 fell 2.1% by 1:30 p.m. trading in New York, on track to end the week with losses. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 tumbled 2.6%, and the Dow fell 1.7%. 
All members of the Magnificent Seven group were in the red, with Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMZN#NASDAQ">AMZN</a>) and Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>) marking the widest drops, both down 4.4%.
Earlier on Friday, the Fed's favorite inflation gauge – the core Personal Consumption Expenditure price index – rose 2.8% on a yearly basis in February, surprising estimates of 2.7%. 
Investor anxiety deepened following the latest University of Michigan Survey of Consumers, which showed 5-year forward inflation expectations jumping to 4.1% — a 0.2-point increase from prior estimates and the highest reading since February 1993. As stocks fell in unison, a flight to safety ensued, sending gold up 1% to a record-breaking $3,090 per ounce. Treasury bonds also rallied, with yields declining across all maturities. 
Price action in commodities was mixed with oil down 1% and natural gas up 2.4%. Sentiment in crypto also took a sharp hit, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) down by 4% to below $84,000, flipping to weekly losses.

Major indexes are lower amid weakness in auto stocks following new US auto tariffs.

Wall Street dipped slightly on Thursday, with all major indexes edging into the red as investors digested President Donald Trump&#8216;s latest <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44517885/trump-slaps-25-tariffs-on-autos-what-it-means-for-your-next-car-purchase">move on auto tariffs.</a>
Late Wednesday, Trump announced a 25% tariff on all auto imports starting next week, with duties on auto parts set to follow in May.
European automakers took a hit, with Mercedes-Benz Group AG (OTCPK: MBGAF) and Porsche Automobile Holding SE (OTCPK: POAHF) sliding 2.5% and 5%, respectively. 
Michigan-based carmakers didn't fare much better. Shares of Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) fell 2.5%, while General Motors Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) plunged 6.5%, with the latter marking the worst performance on the S&amp;P 500.
In contrast, U.S. electric vehicle makers rallied. Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) rose 2.6%, and Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RIVN#NASDAQ">RIVN</a>) jumped 5%. The rally followed comments from Goldman Sachs analyst Mark Delenay, who pointed to their fully domestic production as a significant advantage <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/03/44515578/trumps-25-tariff-set-to-hike-imported-car-prices-up-to-15000-higher-goldman-sachs-warns">under the new tariffs.</a>
Meanwhile, gold extended its rally, climbing over 1% and testing record highs as the U.S. dollar softened. Silver gained 2%, while copper pulled back 2% after a strong run that had lifted it to all-time highs.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) held firm at $86,875, signaling a cautious tone across the crypto market.

Stocks Slide As Auto Tariffs Boost Tesla, Rivian And Hit GM, Ford: What's Driving Markets Thursday?

U.S. stocks declined on Wednesday, with all major indices in the red by midday in New York, as renewed concerns <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/tariffs">over tariffs rattled investors.</a>
President Donald Trump signaled that new trade duties on automobiles could be announced as early as today, while market participants are also bracing for April 2, which marks the start of reciprocal tariffs.
Technology shares, particularly semiconductor stocks, led the selloff, dragging the Nasdaq 100 sharply lower and trimming much of its weekly gains. Shares of Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) tumbled 5.9%, on track for the worst daily loss since early March, as investors fear further restrictions on chip exports to China. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NYSE">SOXX</a>) fell 3.4%. 
Meanwhile, blue-chip stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average were more resilient, supported by strength in the energy and consumer staples sectors. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), Wall Street's so-called "fear gauge," jumped 8% to 18.9.
The dollar and Treasury yields remained flat, reflecting a wait-and-see stance in the bond market amid uncertainty over the broader economic impact of potential tariffs.
In commodities, crude oil rose 1.4%, extending weekly gains to 2.5%—on track for its best week since early January—after a surprise drop in commercial inventories. Metals held steady, with copper holding record highs.
Bitcoin slipped 1% to $86,500 following a flat close the previous day.

Wall Street&#8217;s recovery from its recent technical correction paused for a breather on Tuesday, as investors awaited more clarity on tariff developments and digested a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44475192/consumer-confidence-falls-to-lowest-since-2022-as-inflation-tariff-worries-grow">downbeat consumer confidence report.</a>
The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index dropped to 92.9 in March, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44475192/consumer-confidence-falls-to-lowest-since-2022-as-inflation-tariff-worries-grow">its lowest reading since late 2022</a>. The Expectations Index plunged to 65.2 — a level not seen since 2013 — reflecting growing pessimism. The report cited rising prices, especially for eggs and tariff-affected goods, as key concerns. Inflation expectations also climbed, from 5.8% in February to 6.2% in March.
The S&amp;P 500 and Dow were flat on the day, while the Nasdaq 100 edged slightly higher, supported by gains in cybersecurity stocks.
Copper took center stage, jumping over 2% to hit new record highs. Demand is surging in both China and the U.S., fueled by<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44476803/copper-breaks-records-on-china-stimulus-tariff-hype-these-stocks-are-riding-the-wave"> policy stimulus and tariff-related shifts.</a>
Shares of Freeport McMoRan Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FCX#NYSE">FCX</a>), the largest U.S. copper miner, rose 3.3%, extending gains in 10 of the last 11 sessions. The Global X Copper Miners ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COPX#NYSE">COPX</a>) climbed 2% to a three-month high.
Elsewhere, market moves were subdued. Gold gained 0.5%, silver advanced 1.8% and oil dipped 0.4% after Monday's 1.2% jump driven by Venezuelan sanctions.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) posted a modest 0.4% gain.

Wall Street Pauses For A Breather, Miners Rally As Copper Notches All-Time Highs: What's Driving Markets Tuesday?

Wall Street soared Monday, kicking off the week in full risk-on mode as investors welcomed signs of easing trade tensions and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/03/44459470/us-business-activity-rebounds-as-services-growth-outpaces-forecasts-yet-cost-pressures-intensify">stronger-than-expected economic data. </a>
President Donald Trump&#8216;s softer tone on potential tariffs ahead of the looming April 2, 2025 deadline helped calm nerves. Adding to the optimism, fresh business surveys showed a strong rebound in services activity in March, easing recession worries.
U.S. economic activity accelerated in March, with the Composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rising rom 51.6 in February to to 53.5. Services PMI jumped to 54.3 — well above consensus forecasts of 50.8 and sharply higher than the prior month's 51.0 reading. Yet, the report also flagged a notable uptick in cost pressures, as businesses reported growing concerns over input prices, likely linked to heightened speculation around potential tariff measures.
The S&amp;P 500 jumped 1.75% by midday in New York, on track for its best one-day performance since mid-January. The Nasdaq 100 rallied 2%, mirroring gains from March 14 — the index's strongest day since early November 2024.
Small caps outperformed their large-cap peers, underscoring the market's improving risk appetite. The Russell 2000 surged 2.8%, marking its best session since the post-election rally on Nov. 6, 2024.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) led the charge on both the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100, soaring 9.8%, on track for its sharpest one-day gain since early November.
All seven mega-cap tech stocks posted solid gains, with the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MAGS#NYSE">MAGS</a>) climbing 2.9% after Friday's 1.4% rise, setting up what could be its strongest two-day advance since early January.
Every S&amp;P 500 sector, except utilities, traded in positive territory, with consumer discretionary and technology leading the pack.
The U.S. dollar index edged higher, eyeing a fourth consecutive session of gains. Meanwhile, Treasury yields spiked across the curve as investors rotated out of safe-haven assets. The 10-year yield jumped seven basis points to 4.32%, while the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) dropped 0.9%.

Oil prices gained 1.5% after Trump threatened a 25% tariff on <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/government/regulations/25/03/44460897/oil-prices-rally-exxon-hits-16-week-highs-as-trump-vows-25-tariffs-on-any-country-buying-venezuelan-crude">countries importing Venezuelan crude.</a>
Crypto-related assets also rallied. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) climbed 2.7% to $88,400, while MicroStrategy Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) jumped 7.4% and Coinbase Global Inc. S&P 500 Rallies On Best Day In 2 Months As Recession Fears Ease, Tesla Rockets, Bitcoin Hits $88,000: What's Driving Markets Monday?

Major indexes are higher amid reports suggesting tariffs could be narrower and more targeted.

The <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/momentum-trading">momentum trade</a> just hit a wall and the unwind has been nothing short of brutal.
JPMorgan analysts Dubravko Lakos-Bujas, Arun Jain and Bhupinder Singh note that the sharp reversal in momentum has erased two years of gains in just three weeks &#8211; one of the fastest unwinds in four decades. 
With mega-caps leading the drop and a dramatic shift towards low-volatility stocks, investors need to rethink their strategies.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What's Behind The Crash?</h2>
Extreme crowding in momentum stocks &#8211; primarily fueled by AI enthusiasm, high-rate expectations and pro-growth bets—came under pressure as macro risks resurfaced. 
The result? A 17% average decline among the Mag-7, triggering a $5.8 trillion market cap wipeout in the S&amp;P 500.
While forced liquidations and systematic deleveraging have cooled the immediate risk of another crash, JPMorgan warns that if this is a true regime shift, the unwind may only be one-third complete.

But JPMorgan warns that a further rate drop could push low volatility stocks into bubble territory, much like 2016.

Wall Street remains in the red heading into the end of the week, with major indexes posting modest midday losses in New York, though well off <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">the session&#8217;s earlier lows.</a>
At a White House event, President Donald Trump said there would be flexibility on the upcoming tariffs, easing investor concerns that their planned implementation on April 2 could trigger major disruptions.

The news helped improve risk sentiment in equities, while gold is having its worst session since late February, down 1% as traders scale back positions in safe-haven assets.
The U.S. dollar reversed course to notch weekly gains after two consecutive weeks of losses. Among mega-cap stocks, Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) and Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) led the way, climbing 4.9% and 4.2%, respectively.
Boeing, up 11% for the week, is on track for its strongest weekly performance since July 2023 after securing a multibillion-dollar contract to design and build a next-generation fighter jet for the U.S. Air Force—beating out rival Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>), which fell 6%.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) dipped 0.4% to below $84,000 but is still holding onto weekly gains.

Wall Street Trims Losses As Boeing Eyes Best Week In Nearly 2 Years: What's Driving Markets Friday?

U.S. stocks traded sideways on Thursday as investors digested Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's remarks on inflation and tariffs following the Federal Open Market<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/03/44405112/tariff-inflation-may-be-transitory-powell-says-stocks-rally-bitcoin-clears-85000-as-bulls-return"> Committee meeting on Wednesday.</a> 
Powell downplayed concerns that tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump could reignite inflation, calling their impact "transitory." Yet, the Fed's latest projections signaled slower economic growth, rising unemployment and hotter inflation. 
By midday in New York, major indexes were little changed, with financial stocks leading modest gains. 
Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) extended its rally to fresh record highs, on track for a sixth consecutive positive session. The stock's year-to-date outperformance over the S&amp;P 500 has widened to 20 percentage points.
In commodities, gold edged lower as the U.S. dollar strengthened, while Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) slid 2.8%, dipping below $85,000. Oil prices jumped 1.5% to $67 per barrel amid escalating geopolitical tensions, as Israel launched a new ground operation in Gaza, breaking a two-month ceasefire.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell indicated that inflation driven by new trade tariffs might be &#8220;transitory,&#8221; evoking comparisons to the Fed's 2022 misstep when it wrongly classified inflation as a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/03/44403637/fed-holds-rates-while-growth-forecasts-slip-inflation-projections-rise">short-lived phenomenon.</a>
Speaking Wednesday following the Federal Open Market Committee's decision to hold rates at 4.25%-4.50%, Powell said the Fed is not in hurry to adjust interest rates and policymakers can &#8220;wait for clarity&#8221; before making moves.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How Much Of Inflation Is Due to Tariffs?</h3>
The Fed's updated macroeconomic projections show a slowing economy and stubbornly high inflation, raising concerns about stagflation. Growth forecasts for 2025 were revised downward, with real GDP now expected to expand 1.7%, down from December's 2.1% estimate. 
The Fed's preferred measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, is now expected to hit 2.7% in 2025, up from 2.5%. Core PCE, which strips out food and energy costs, was revised from 2.5% to 2.8% for 2025.
Powell admitted it is &#8220;very challenging&#8221; to isolate tariff-driven inflation from broader price pressures. 
&#8220;Some of it—a good part of it—is coming from tariffs,&#8221; he said. The difficulty lies in tracking which price increases are directly tied to tariffs and which are due to other economic factors.
Tariff-related inflation could be &#8220;transitory&#8221;, Powell said, depending on how quickly it moves through the economy. If inflation expectations remain anchored and the effects fade, the Fed may opt to look past these price increases.
Yet, some of its effects are already visible.
&#8220;We have had two very strong goods inflation readings in the last two months, which is very unexpected,&#8221; Powell said, suggesting that businesses may be preemptively raising prices in anticipation of tariffs. 
A similar dynamic occurred when washing machines were tariffed in 2018—prices on both washers and dryers jumped, even though only one was subject to tariffs.
The Fed is also factoring in potential retaliatory tariffs from other countries. Staff forecasts assume &#8220;full retaliation,&#8221; though the exact economic impact remains uncertain. 
Powell indicated that &#8220;when we actually know the specifics, we will be able to have a better-informed forecast.&#8221;
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Powell Dismisses UMich Consumer Inflation Worries, Downplays Recession Fears</h3>
Recent surveys, including the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index, indicate rising uncertainty among households and businesses, with inflation expectations soaring sharply as economic players anticipate tariffs. 
Powell downplayed the University of Michigan report, calling it an &#8220;outlier&#8221; compared to other measures of long-term inflation expectations.
Despite rising inflation expectations, the Fed is still projecting two rate cuts in 2025. Powell said weaker growth and higher inflation are &#8220;balancing each other out,&#8221; leading policymakers to maintain their current stance.
&#8220;We think our policy is in a good place,&#8221; Powell said. 
Powell said that while some forecasters have slightly raised the probability of a recession, the risk remains &#8220;moderate&#8221; and &#8220;not high.&#8221; He noted that while survey data from businesses and households show increased uncertainty, the hard economic data—such as GDP growth and employment—remains solid.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions: Stocks Rally, Bitcoin Tops $85,000</h3>
Risk sentiment rippled through risky assets after Powell&#8217;s remarks on Wednesday.
The S&amp;P 500 – as tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) – rallied 1.4% going into the closing bell, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100, tracked by the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/QQQ#NASDAQ">QQQ</a>), soared 1.8%. 
Small caps outperformed large-cap counterparts, with the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IWM#NYSE">IWM</a>) up 2%. 
Short-dated Treasury yields fell by 5 basis points to below 4% and the U.S. dollar index (DXY) trimmed session gains to 0.3%. Gold rose 0.5% to nearly $3,050 per ounce, further extending record highs. 
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) soared 3.3% to above $85,000, hitting a 10-session high.
