What Happened: The adapters will allow Hyundai EV owners to charge their vehicles at more than 20,000 Tesla superchargers in the U.S., the company said. Adapters will also be available to purchase at authorized dealers, it added.
Owners of the model year 2024 and earlier KONA electric, Ioniq, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6 as well as model year 2025 Ioniq 6, Ioniq 5N, and Kona electric will be eligible to get free adapters.
These vehicles have a Combined Charging System (CCS) charge port, necessitating the use of an adapter to charge on Tesla's supercharger network equipped with North American Charging Standard (NACS.)

Reported Wednesday, Hyundai And Kia To Debut 'X-ble Shoulder' In 2025, Cutting Muscle Activity And Enhancing Worker Comfort For Overhead Tasks

Hyundai Motor (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HYMTF#OTC">HYMTF</a>) and Kia Corp are together recalling over 208,000 electrified vehicles in the U.S. citing concerns about a loss of driving power, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Friday.
What Happened: The recall population includes 145,235 Hyundai vehicles and 62,872 vehicles from its sister company Kia. 
The integrated charging control unit in the vehicles may become damaged and stop charging the battery, resulting in a loss of drive power, the U.S. auto safety regulator said. A loss of drive power may increase the risk of a crash, it added. 
The vehicles included in the recall are certain IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 Electrified, Genesis G80 Electrified, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/04/38246262/need-a-new-ev-deal-kia-offers-dealers-cash-to-make-room-for-2024-models">and Kia EV6</a>. 
Why It Matters: As for a solution, the company&#8217;s dealers will inspect and replace the charging unit and its fuse if necessary, NHTSA said. 
The company is not aware of any crashes, injuries, fatalities, or fires due to the issue in the U.S.

Hyundai, Kia Recall Over 208,000 Electrified Vehicles In US: Here's More

South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co&#8216;s (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HYMTF#OTC">HYMTF</a>) incoming CEO Jose Munoz is optimistic about the future of electric vehicles despite fears of EV tariffs and incentives getting dropped or reduced under the upcoming Donald Trump presidency.

On Wednesday, Ford announced that it&nbsp;sold a total of 504,039 vehicles during the third quarter, which marks a YoY improvement of 0.7%. Year-to-date, Ford experienced a sales rise of 2.7% as it sold 1,548,172 vehicles.Hybrids led the way as Ford sold 48,101 of them, with sales growing as much as 38%. &nbsp;Ford revealed its struggling EV business also grew 12.2% to 23,509 sold vehicles but EV sales growth slowed, causing Ford to lose its EV lead to its Detroit peer, General Motors. During the first nine months of the year, Ford sold 67,689 EVs, up 45% on an annual&nbsp;basis. This places Ford just behind General Motors who sold 70,450 EVs through September. On Tuesday, GM reported that this figure that includes a rise of about 60% during the third quarter. But both Ford and General Motors continue to trail Hyundai Motor Company, who remains a distant second to the EV king, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/tsla#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>).
Meanwhile, Tesla revealed on Tuesday its third quarter deliveries grew 6.4%&nbsp;YoY. &nbsp;Out of 462,890 units that Tesla delivered, Model 3 and Model Y making up 439,975 of those deliveries. During the quarter, Tesla also revealed it produced 469,796 vehicles, with 443,668&nbsp;of them being also Model 3 and Model Y.&nbsp;
At its recent CEO Investor Day, Hyundai announced its plans for boosting profitability by diversifying its hybrid and EV lineups. Hyundai Motor Company&nbsp;and Kia Corporation also just announced a joint venture to enhance competitiveness in future EV batteries by launching a new manufacturing process to develop lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cathode material. Automakers Are Doing Their Best To Combat The EV Slowdown

The U.S. Commerce Department proposed Monday an outright block on the import and sale of Chinese-made vehicles that contain key communications and automated driving systems due <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/china">to national security concerns.</a>
This sweeping proposal, reported by Reuters, would have the effect of shutting out nearly all Chinese cars from the U.S. market, intensifying the ongoing economic standoff between the two global superpowers.
The proposed regulation would not only target vehicles but also encompass the software and hardware integral to modern connected cars. 
This means that any vehicle equipped with systems that facilitate internet connectivity or data sharing — which are now ubiquitous in newer models — could be banned if these technologies are sourced from China or any other nation deemed a foreign adversary, including Russia.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Heightened Security Concerns</h3>
The Biden administration has expressed growing concerns over the potential for data collected by Chinese automakers and tech companies to be used for espionage or to undermine U.S. infrastructure. 
With many modern cars linked to the internet, allowing them to communicate with external systems for navigation, safety features, and data storage, officials worry that Chinese companies could exploit these connections to gather sensitive information or even manipulate vehicle operations remotely.
For instance, an extreme scenario, as warned by government officials, could see adversaries remotely controlling vehicles or causing accidents at scale.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Impact On The Auto Industry, Stock Reactions</h3>
This new ban, if enacted, could be a game changer for the automotive industry. Chinese automakers such as BYD, Nio and Xpeng, which have been eyeing the U.S. market, would face significant roadblocks.
Even American and other international automakers that source components from Chinese suppliers could be impacted, especially when it comes to hardware and software development.
The Alliance for Automotive Innovation – a trade group representing major automakers including General Motors Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>), Toyota Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>), Volkswagen AG (OTCPK: VWAGY), and Hyundai Motor Co., Ltd (OTCPK: HYMTF) – has expressed caution about the proposed bans, according to Reuters. 
Automakers noted that connected vehicle components are sourced globally, including from China, and that reconfiguring supply chains to avoid Chinese software and hardware could prove challenging.
While the group has not yet provided a detailed breakdown of how extensively Chinese-made parts are used in U.S. vehicles, it&#8217;s clear the proposed bans would require significant adjustments for automakers operating in the U.S. market.
Shares of General Motors fell over 3% during Monday premarket trading, while Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) rose 1.3%. 
Shares of major Chinese automakers had mixed reactions. NIO Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NIO#NYSE">NIO</a>) fell over 2%, while XPeng Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XPEV#NYSE">XPEV</a>) dropped 0.8%. In contrast, Li Auto Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LI#NASDAQ">LI</a>) managed to rise by 1%, bucking the downward trend.

These combined measures could reshape the competitive landscape in the U.S. auto market, particularly in the growing electric vehicle sector.
In addition, the proposal could hamper Chinese companies&#8217; ability to test self-driving or autonomous cars on U.S. soil, limiting their participation in an industry expected to revolutionize transportation over the coming decades.

The proposed rules would phase in over the next several years. Software restrictions would apply to vehicles from the 2027 model year onward, while hardware bans would take effect for 2030 models, starting as early as January 2029, Reuters said. 
This phased approach is designed to allow automakers time to adapt their supply chains and eliminate Chinese components from their vehicles. Given the global nature of the automotive supply chain, transitioning away from Chinese-made components could be a costly and complex process.

Putting it simply, a larger EV means a less efficient EV. To move around, a heavier vehicle needs more energy and therefore, huge batteries. Rivian somewhat solved this equation with R1T&nbsp;that has the range option of&nbsp;420 miles, but it requires a huge and expensive battery pack. Stellantis N.V. (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/stla#NYSE">STLA</a>) is claiming its all-electric Ram 1500 REV pickup will outperform its competitors with range, towing, payload, and charging times.&nbsp;Scheduled to arrive to dealerships early next year, this will be Ram&rsquo;s first electric pickup.&nbsp;2025 1500 REV&nbsp;will come with two battery options, resulting in targeted ranges of&nbsp;350-miles and up to 500 miles.&nbsp;This means Stellantis will leave behind not only Rivian, but also the pickup king, Ford and its 2024 Lightning, whose extended range of 320 miles, and the EV king, Tesla, whose Cybetruck has en estimated driving range of 340 miles. However, it&rsquo;s no secret that Stellantis is also struggling, both in North America and in Europe, with Chinese EV makers setting up shop as they continue to expand their global footprint. But, despite challenges and weak results for the first half of the year, including a profit dive of 48%, Stellantis is not giving up. Earlier this month, it revealed its plans to invest $406 million to retool three Michigan plants for EV production. But also, it is slowing down as a week ago, it decided to pause the production of electric Fiat 500 model for four weeks, with the plant in Turin will undergo a significant transformation, involving an investment of &euro;100 million, being equipped for developing a hybrid version of the model. Therefore, Stellantis is yet to fulfill its electric pickup promise.&nbsp;
<h3>The Good News Is That All Electric Pickups Just Got Some Solar Power</h3>
Meanwhile, Worksport Ltd (NASDAQ: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/wksp#NASDAQ">WKSP</a>), an innovative maker of hybrid and clean energy solutions for light trucks and global consumer goods, just initiated the Alpha Launch of its solar-power duo that pickups can greatly benefit from. Its off-grid power on the go duo consists of SOLIS solar-powered tonneau cover and COR mobile battery power generator. Worksport is planning to bring this innovative system to market in three phases, beginning with the Alpha release, followed by the Beta release and ultimately, a full-scale market launch. The initial Alpha release of its cutting-edge nano-grid system has officially been initiated, with Worksport announcing that approximately 100 systems have been set for rigorous testing and public exposure.&nbsp;Worksport already revealed that the SOLIS will be available for major truck brands including Ford, General Motors Company (NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/gm#NYSE">GM</a>) and the Hyundai Motor Company (OTC: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/hymtf#OTC">HYMTF</a>). In addition, Worksport revealed earlier this month successful lab test results of the portable COR battery system as a range extender for Tesla, namely its Model 3 and Cybertruck.
Therefore, the above examples show that as technologies improve and economies of scale emerge, electric pickups will be in a much more favorable position in the future.

Electric Pickups Just Got Some Solar Power To Ease Their Struggles

New Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) vehicle registrations in the European Union in the first eight months of 2024 dropped 15% as compared to the corresponding period last year<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/06/39499253/elon-musks-ev-giant-will-see-revenue-from-its-auto-business-slumping-this-year-but-"> as overall electric vehicle (EV) demand dropped</a>, data from Europe&#8217;s auto industry body showed on Thursday.
What Happened: Only 152,607 new Tesla vehicles were registered this year in the EU as of the end of August, as compared to 179,363 registrations in the corresponding period of last year, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) said. 
Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/F#NYSE">F</a>) is not faring great in the EU either. In the eight months that ended August, Ford&#8217;s new vehicle registration dropped 16% to 210,351 units. 
However, Swedish automaker Volvo Cars, majority-owned by China&#8217;s Geely, saw new car registrations rise 38% to 192,365 units while Chinese state-owned SAIC Motor also marked an 18% growth in registrations to 102,924 units.
Japan-based Toyota Motor (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>) witnessed its registrations rise by 18% this year through the end of August to 571,574 units even as rivals including Stellantis (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STLA#NYSE">STLA</a>) and Hyundai (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HYMTF#OTC">HYMTF</a>) recorded a 3.2% and 4.3% dip in registrations, respectively.
German automaker Volkswagen (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/VWAGY#OTC">VWAGY</a>) continues to be the best-selling car brand in the EU, with 1.9 million new vehicles registered in the first eight months of 2024, growing by 1.6% over the same period last year.
Why It Matters: Overall, 7.2 million new cars have been registered<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/07/39635158/eu-imposes-provisional-duties-of-as-much-as-37-6-on-chinese-ev-imports"> in the EU</a> this year as of the end of August, marking a growth of 1.4% from last year. 
Hydrid electric vehicles&#8217; popularity in the period rose, as depicted by the 21% rise in registrations. Battery electric vehicle registrations dipped 8.3% while diesel vehicle registrations dropped 9.7%.
On Wednesday, the ACEA took note of the drop in BEV market share in the EU. &#8220;European auto manufacturers, united in ACEA, therefore call on the EU institutions to come forward with urgent relief measures before new CO2 targets for cars and vans come into effect in 2025,&#8221; it said. 
EV adoption and production are hindered by a lack of charging infrastructure and a competitive manufacturing environment, it said, while adding that the current emission rules do not account for the profound shift in the geopolitical and economic climate over the past years. 
The 2025 CO2 emission targets could result in multi-billion euro fines, production cuts, and job losses, ACEA said, while calling for the CO2 regulations for light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles to be reviewed next year. 
&#8220;We stand ready to discuss a package of short-term relief for the 2025 CO2 targets for cars and vans, as well as a fast-track, comprehensive, and robust review of the CO2 Regulations for both cars and trucks, plus targeted secondary legislation, to get the zero-emission transition firmly on track and secure Europe's industrial future,&#8221; it said.
