Ohio Republican Senator Bernie Moreno is all in with <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/03/44092335/trumps-tariffs-threaten-canada-mexico-china-and-american-wallets">President Trump&#8216;s tariffs</a> on auto imports from Canada and Mexico. He says they&#8217;re worth the pain on the industry because they&#8217;ll help curb the flow of undocumented migrants and illegal drugs into the U.S. 
"Trump's 100% right, and all of us should rally around his demand that our two neighbors step up," Moreno said in an interview last week, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-03-03/ohio-senator-says-short-term-tariff-pain-worth-it-for-autos?sref=TBDibEcD">reported</a> Bloomberg. "Until they do what they need to do, yes, am I willing to take some amount of short-term pain? Absolutely, 100%.&#8221;
Auto industry leaders have warned that the measures pose significant risks to industry profits, employment and sales as they prepare for higher costs and disruptions to their North American supply chains.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Moreno Wants To Repeal Emissions Rules</h2>
Moreno, who was a luxury car dealer in Cleveland before entering politics, recently introduced legislation backed by GM, Stellantis, and Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TM#NYSE">TM</a>) that would repeal emissions rules and give tax breaks to car manufacturers by loosening fuel economy and clean-air regulations.
The GOP Senator, who contends that U.S. auto manufacturing has been under attack from inconsistent regulations, foreign competition and misguided federal policies, said his bill would give automakers greater flexibility and long-term stability, <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/02/us-sen-bernie-moreno-introduces-bill-to-repeal-emissions-rules-give-tax-breaks-to-automakers.html">according</a> to Cleveland.com.

The cryptocurrency sector, often unified in its push against traditional financial systems, is facing a deepening rift over President Donald Trump's proposal to create a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/25/03/44114998/trumps-cabinet-holds-bitcoin-solana-ethereumbut-no-cardano-or-xrp">U.S. strategic reserve of digital assets</a>.
What Happened: Unveiled in early March, the plan as ignited fierce debate over its implications for fiscal responsibility, economic equity, and the very ethos of the crypto movement. 
As Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, simultaneously pursues trillions in spending cuts, the contrast between these policies has sharpened divisions within the industry, pitting advocates of government-backed crypto adoption against those wary of using public funds to prop up volatile, unproven assets.
Trump's announcement, made via Truth Social on Sunday, named five cryptocurrencies—Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>), Ripple (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/xrp/usd">XRP</a>), Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>), and Cardano (CRYPTO: ADAA)—as candidates for the reserve.
According to data from CoinGecko, Bitcoin surged over 20% from the previous week's lows to $92,000 by Monday, with other listed tokens also rallying sharply.
The task force, established via executive order on Trump's Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, aims to cut $1 trillion from the deficit, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/18/musk-trump-interview-fox-news-sean-hannity">according </a>to Musk's statements in a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity on Feb. 25.
DOGE has already claimed $55 billion in savings by Feb. 24, per its official website, targeting programs like USAID and DEI contracts at the Treasury.
Yet, the juxtaposition of these cuts with a plan to buy cryptocurrencies—assets known for wild price swings—has fueled accusations of inconsistency. 
"The overall goal is to try to get a trillion dollars out of the deficit, and if the deficit is not brought under control, America will go bankrupt," Musk told Hannity, a stance that clashes with the reserve's potential costs.
Estimates of the reserve's price tag remain vague, but the Congressional Budget Office projects the federal deficit at $2 trillion for fiscal year 2025. 
Trump has suggested raising the debt ceiling or revaluing gold to fund the purchases, per a CBS News report from Feb. 20, but no concrete mechanism has been legislated.

What Critics Are Saying: Critics argue this could divert billions into assets that, unlike Treasury bonds, lack proven long-term value.
Trump's late Sunday pledge to stockpile Bitcoin alongside Ether, XRP, SOL and ADA led to a sharp climb in the price of Bitcoin, which peaked at $92,000 on Monday.
 However, this created a notable disparity in the CME Bitcoin futures chart, with prices jumping from a Friday close of $84,500 to a Monday opening of $95,300. 
By Tuesday afternoon in Asian markets, this gap had closed as Bitcoin retreated to $83,500, erasing the prior day's gains.
Within the crypto sector, the divide is stark. 
Proponents, including some institutional investors, hail the reserve as a validation of digital assets' role in the global economy. 
The surge in Bitcoin's value post-announcement suggests a boon for early adopters, many of whom are affluent holders. 
However, dissenters like Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3, have slammed the inclusion of altcoins like XRP and SOL, arguing it prioritizes enriching specific project founders over national interest. 
"Mow also criticized the selection of assets in the reserve, arguing it was designed to enrich specific projects rather than serve a national purpose," according to a <a href="https://x.com/dgwbirch/status/1896444932325351450">report</a>, echoing sentiments on X.
Why It Matters: This tension dovetails with DOGE's spending cuts, which have axed tens of thousands of federal jobs and shuttered agencies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, per TIME's Feb. 13 overview.
The irony isn't lost on critics: a government slashing discretionary spending—$1.8 trillion in 2024, per Al Jazeera—might redirect funds to speculative assets.
"Trump has promised not to cut either Social Security or Medicare… If that promise holds, it narrows DOGE's options for cutting spending by $1 trillion," Al Jazeera <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/2/25/how-the-us-spends-taxpayer-money-as-musk-led-doge-seeks-cuts">noted</a>, highlighting the fiscal tightrope.

DOGE's access to Treasury data has already sparked lawsuits, with a federal judge blocking it on Feb.8 per BBC News, citing privacy concerns.
The reserve would likely require Congressional approval, a process experts deem uncertain given the GOP's slim House majority and Senate dynamics, as PBS News reported on Feb. 8.
"It's not clear how much in savings can be achieved without Congress codifying it in law," said Douglas Elmendorf, former CBO director, in the PBS piece.

Yesterday, the company reported quarterly earnings of 33 cents per share, which <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/03/44095065/gitlab-shares-rise-after-better-than-expected-q4-report-details" rel="noreferrer noopener">beat the analyst consensus estimate of 23 cents</a>. Quarterly revenue came in at $211.43 million, which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $206.12 million.
GitLab sees first-quarter adjusted earnings of between 14 cents and 15 cents per share, and revenue in a range of $212 million to $213 million.
Bora acknowledges that the fourth quarter was a strong quarter for bookings, with several growth factors continuing to contribute.

First, there is no change in the guidance approach compared to FY25. Second, the guidance assumes no significant shifts in the macroeconomic environment.
Third, GitLab isn&#8217;t factoring in extra caution regarding its public sector business, which accounts for 12% of its ARR, mostly tied to the U.S. federal government.
Lastly, while GitLab exceeded its initial FY25 pricing impact estimates of $15 million &#8211; $20 million, management expects a similar revenue impact in FY26, though they haven&#8217;t specified the exact amount, Bora writes.

GitLab's Growth Holds Steady, But Analyst Lowers Price Forecast On Cautious Outlook

908 Devices Strategic Shift: Desktop Sale To Repligen Optimizes Future Growth

J.P. Morgan analyst David Karnovsky reiterated an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/SPHR/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">Overweight rating</a> on the shares of Sphere Entertainment Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPHR#NYSE">SPHR</a>) and lowered the price target from $57.00 to $54.00.
The analyst has revised the estimates for SPHR following their <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/03/n44074013/sphere-entertainment-co-reports-results-for-the-three-and-six-months-ended-december-31-2024" rel="noreferrer noopener">fourth-quarter earnings report</a>.
The Sphere segment&#8217;s AOI came in at -$1 million (or +$4 million excluding management transition costs), which was better than the analyst&#8217;s forecast of -$10 million, primarily due to stronger contributions from residencies.
During the call, management expressed confidence in the upcoming Experience show, expected to launch in third-quarter, and noted strong year-end demand for Exosphere, which has carried over into the current quarter.
Additionally, they highlighted growing artist interest in performing at the venue. The company also mentioned opportunities to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency, with the overall message that the Vegas location could significantly contribute to AOI this year.

Regarding international expansion, SPHR is still in talks for additional locations, potentially adding one or two venues similar to Abu Dhabi. They also discussed the possibility of developing smaller venues, possibly even in U.S. markets.
Despite the improved AOI and what the analyst expects to be higher consensus estimates based on management&#8217;s commentary, shares fell by 14% (compared to SPX&#8217;s -2%).
This performance seems inconsistent with the results, and the analyst notes the lack of updates on international locations or debt restructuring doesn&#8217;t fully explain the drop.
Therefore, the analyst wouldn&#8217;t be surprised to see a short-term rebound as the positive messages about the company&#8217;s fundamentals are absorbed.
The analyst continues to see a favorable risk/reward outlook with potential catalysts such as additional partner announcements, updates on Abu Dhabi, new residency deals, and the debut of new content.
After more than a year, the Las Vegas Sphere has solidified its position as a key attraction in the destination tourism sector, drawing both visitors and artists.
The company&#8217;s financial performance since its opening strengthens the analyst&#8217;s confidence that it will successfully secure additional international franchise partners. The analyst notes the potential growth from this expansion is not yet fully reflected in the stock price.

Sphere Entertainment's Financial Outlook Remains Strong Despite Stock Dip, Analyst Says

JP Morgan analyst David Karnovsky maintained an Underweight rating on Paramount Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PARA#NASDAQ">PARA</a>) with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/PARA/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price target of $11</a>.
PayTV declines continue to be a considerable headwind. While DTC execution has been solid, Karnovsky expects losses through 2026, weighing on total company OIBDA and free cash flow.

Following <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/price-target/25/02/44019592/paramount-global-eyes-profitability-analysts-assess-subscriber-surge-and-cost-savings" rel="noreferrer noopener">fourth-quarter earnings</a>, Karnovsky updated estimates for Paramount.
Paramount affirmed its expectation for Paramount+ to reach full-year domestic profitability in 2025, supported by the upcoming slate and continued ARPU acceleration. The service saw improved engagement in the fourth quarter, with global watch time up 20%, leading to a 100 bps decrease in user churn.
For the first quarter, management expects to benefit from fourth-quarter net adds, mostly direct subscriptions that should generate more attractive ARPU. Meanwhile, Karnovsky noted that the quarter will also lap Super Bowl LVIII&#8217;s advertising benefit in 2024.
The company noted a recovery in licensing, which benefitted from a normalized content slate and saw domestic secondary licensing grow double digits. International licensing rose at a slower rate, with buying now taking place later in the broadcast season relative to the historical norm.
Paramount expects the decline rate in affiliates to worsen in the first quarter due to recent renewals. Advertising will face headwinds as it laps Super Bowl LVIII while underlying trends will likely remain consistent sequentially.
For 2025, the analyst raised adjusted OIBDA to $2.99 billion (from $2.95 billion) and free cash flow to $576 million (from $353 million), reflecting continued improvement at DTC more than offsetting declines to his estimates at TV Media and Filmed Entertainment.
Karnovsky noted DTC should benefit from the company&#8217;s upcoming content slate and continued ARPU gains and trimmed his fiscal 2025 OIBDA drag to $155 million (from -$303 million).
The analyst reduced his TV Media OIBDA to $3.70 billion (from $3.76 billion), given the segment will face headwinds from its recent affiliate agreements and general ecosystem pressures. Karnovsky decreased his Filmed Entertainment OIBDA estimate to $48 million (from $113 million), reflecting the studio&#8217;s recent performance better.  
Separate from the results, the quarter had limited strategic updates, which is unsurprising given the expected first-half close of the Skydance transaction.
