The Fund seeks to track the investment results of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index (the Underlying Index), which is designed to measure equity market performance in the global emerging markets. As of August 31, 2023, the Underlying Index consisted of securities from the following 24 emerging market countries: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The Underlying Index includes large- and mid-capitalization companies and may change over time. As of August 31, 2023, a significant portion of the Underlying Index is represented by securities of companies in the financials and technology industries or sectors. The components of the Underlying Index are likely to change over time. BFA uses an indexing approach to try to achieve the Fund's investment objective. Unlike many investment companies, the Fund does not try to beat the index it tracks and does not seek temporary defensive positions when markets decline or appear overvalued.

As reported by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/eric-balchunas">Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas</a>, ARGT closed at $42.35, a steep 3.5% daily advance from its earlier close of $40.90. In comparison, the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) rose just 0.5% to $498.12, and the Emerging Markets ETF, a broader indicator of emerging countries, managed a 1.2% gain, closing at $43.70.

ARGT Vs EEM: Apples And Empanadas
While EEM provides diversified exposure across nations such as China, India, Brazil and South Korea, ARGT is far more focused, following the MSCI All Argentina 25/50 Index, which concentrates on the top 20 Argentine firms. That makes ARGT riskier but also more responsive to domestic economic reform, a risk and an opportunity. ARGT places a heavy weight on local players like MercadoLibre (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MELI#NASDAQ">MELI</a>), YPF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/YPF#NYSE">YPF</a>), and Grupo Financiero Galicia (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GGAL#NASDAQ">GGAL</a>), giving it a high beta.
EEM, on the other hand, leans toward Chinese tech giants like Tencent (OTCPK: TCEHY) and Alibaba (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BABA#NYSE">BABA</a>), as well as those from South Korea and India. This insulates the fund from country-specific shocks. But as a tradeoff, the upside is less explosive when a single market surges.
Additionally, ARGT levies a bit higher fee of 59 basis points compared to EEM&#8217;s 68 bps but provides a more focused bet on a single recovering market.
For those with a taste for measured risk and a preference for macro-fueled momentum, ARGT may be the spicier dish to try. As EEM continues to offer a well-balanced, globally diversified option, ARGT&#8217;s high-conviction exposure to Argentina&#8217;s liberalizing economy offers a high-reward option, along with a side of risk. On Friday, April 25, U.S. markets closed higher, capping a strong week fueled by easing U.S.-China trade tensions and solid earnings. The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq gained, led by AI-related megacaps, while the Dow lagged.
Most S&amp;P 500 firms beat earnings expectations, though forward guidance reflected economic uncertainty. Consumer sentiment stayed weak while Alphabet rallied and Intel slumped.
In economic data, the University of Michigan&#8217;s consumer sentiment index for April was revised up to 52.2, improving from the initial estimate of 50.8 but still down from March&#8217;s 57.
Among the S&amp;P 500&#8217;s 11 major sectors, consumer discretionary and tech led the gains, while materials recorded the biggest percentage decline.

On Tuesday, April 1st, U.S. markets closed mixed. The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq ended higher after a volatile session fueled by investor anxiety over impending U.S. tariff announcements from the Trump administration.
Tech stocks like Tesla and Meta led the gains, while healthcare and airline stocks weighed on the indexes. Despite the uptick, markets remained cautious amid ongoing economic uncertainty. In economic data, U.S. manufacturing activity slowed in March, with the ISM PMI falling to 49—below expectations. Construction spending rose 0.7% in February, rebounding from a January decline. Meanwhile, job openings declined by 194,000 to 7.57 million.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors ended the day higher, led by technology and consumer discretionary, while healthcare and financials posted losses.

On Monday, March 31, U.S. markets closed mixed. The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq recorded their worst monthly and quarterly performances since 2022, driven by uncertainty surrounding Trump&#8217;s economic policies and tariffs. 
The S&amp;P saw a notable decline, while the Nasdaq dropped significantly. March was particularly challenging due to concerns about global trade tensions and inflation. However, sectors like energy showed growth, highlighting the importance of diversification.
In economic data, the March Chicago PMI rose to 47.6, exceeding expectations, while the Dallas Fed&#8217;s Texas manufacturing index dropped to -16.3, its lowest level since July 2024.
Most S&amp;P 500 sectors ended higher, with consumer staples, financials, and utilities leading the gains. However, consumer discretionary stocks diverged, closing lower.
