On Friday, BOfA Securities analyst hosted Richard Aboulafia, a partner at AeroDynamic Advisory, to discuss expectations <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">for the upcoming 2025 Paris Air Show</a>.
The analyst says that regarding news of potential 50% EU tariffs, Aboulafia warned that the Air Show could foreshadow how future <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/25/05/45585283/trump-tariff-threat-hits-europe-stocks-sink-as-50-duties-loom" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">international negotiations might unfold</a>.
The analyst notes that the EU might draw lessons from recent agreements in China and the Middle East, which mainly included aerospace and defense products.
Nevertheless, the analyst writes that given the EU&#8217;s own substantial aerospace and defense industry, which it aims to protect, U.S. aerospace and defense interests might become a point of contention rather than an incentive in these discussions.

Regarding Boeing Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>), Aboulafia views recent deals in the Middle East and China as setting a precedent for other nations&#8217; trade negotiations, suggesting orders will be held back as bargaining chips, noted the analyst.
The analyst writes that, for both Airbus SE (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EADSY#OTC">EADSY</a>) and Boeing, Aboulafia doesn&#8217;t foresee many airlines placing large new orders, primarily due to a lack of new aircraft programs and existing backlogs exceeding 10 years for their most popular models.
Further, the analyst noted that, as previously disclosed, Aboulafia doesn&#8217;t anticipate any major new commercial aircraft program unveilings due to ongoing supply chain issues and global macroeconomic constraints.
In the defense sector, Aboulafia expects numerous companies to compete for subsystem roles on programs like NGAD/the F-47 and CCA.
Additionally, Aboulafia anticipates an outsized presence of unmanned aerial systems at the show, predicting a focus on lower-tech, expendable variants rather than highly sophisticated systems, says the analyst.

Will Paris Air Show Signal Shift In Aerospace Trade? Analyst Flags EU Tariff Risks, Order Delays

KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst Philip Gibbs downgraded ATI Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ATI#NYSE">ATI</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/ATI/analyst-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">from Overweight to Sector Weight</a>.
At the beginning of May, ATI reported first-quarter results, with aerospace and defense sales of $754 million, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/n45130989/ati-announces-first-quarter-2025-results" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">representing 66% of sales.</a>
Gibbs has increased ATI&#8217;s 2025 estimates, citing stronger-than-expected demand in the aerospace engine and defense markets, and has also introduced projections for 2026 based on continued growth in those sectors.
While the analyst continues to view ATI as a solid long-term cyclical growth story with meaningful exposure to aerospace and defense, the analyst notes that many near-term catalysts — such as multiple expansion following the April upgrade — have &#8220;quickly played out.&#8221;

As a result, despite the positive demand outlook, Gibbs sees a more balanced risk-reward profile in the near term.
Following the quarterly results, the analyst raised the 2025 EPS estimate to $3.07 from $2.82, aligning with ATI&#8217;s guidance of $2.87–$3.09.
Gibbs now projects EBITDA of $835 million versus prior $814 million, near the high end of the company&#8217;s $800 million–$840 million range, which remains conservative.
The company lifted its aerospace engine growth outlook to 15%–20%-plus year-over-year from 9%-plus, reflecting a richer product mix, while maintaining its low-single-digit airframe growth view, with lower titanium volumes offset by better pricing and mix.
Concerns about Russia&#8217;s potential return to the titanium market in a de-escalation scenario were eased by ATI&#8217;s new $1 billion airframe supply deal with&nbsp;&nbsp;Airbus SE (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EADSY#OTC">EADSY</a>), which runs from 2026 to 2030.
Some limited pressure is expected from softer demand in China for power generation and nuclear-related sales due to trade tensions, but tariffs now appear more manageable.
Gibbs also raised 2025 free cash flow to equity to $309 million from $297 million, driven by higher EBITDA, with net capex of $240 million based on gross capex of $270 million and $30 million in customer reimbursements.
The analyst established a 2026E EPS of $3.63 and EBITDA of $937 million.
ATI Price Action: ATI shares are trading lower by 1.96% to $75.09 at publication on Tuesday.

While Boeing Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>) and Airbus SE (OTCPK: EADSY) wrestle with production slowdowns and decade-long backlogs, Chip Rewey, CIO at Rewey Asset Management, is focused on a quieter part of the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-aerospace-defense-stocks">aerospace and defense</a> machine: the suppliers that win no matter which plane takes off.
Fresh off Qatar Airways' latest Boeing order &#8211; inked during President Donald Trump's diplomatic tour &#8211; Rewey sees commercial aviation demand as anything but turbulent. Both Airbus and Boeing have signaled stronger output through 2025 and beyond, despite persistent supply chain snarls. And where there&#8217;s consistent demand, there&#8217;s cash &#8211; especially for the companies that feed both giants.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ducommon &#8211; Leveraged Play On Defense Demand</h2>
Enter Ducommun Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DCO#NYSE">DCO</a>), a $1 billion market capitalization parts supplier with deep roots in both defense and commercial aerospace. With nearly 60% of its revenue coming from top defense players like Raytheon aka RTX Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RTX#NYSE">RTX</a>) and Lockheed Martin Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LMT#NYSE">LMT</a>), and another 40% tied to the Boeing-Airbus duopoly, Rewey sees Ducommun as a leveraged play on surging global defense budgets and aviation demand.
And the macro backdrop? It's tailwinds all the way.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Procurement Intact, Says Expert</h2>
Between a $6 billion bump in U.S. defense spending passed in March and a proposed $150 billion Senate increase in the pipeline, Rewey says the real action is in replenishment: from Ukraine to Israel to the gear left behind in Afghanistan, the U.S. needs to refill its defense cupboards fast. 
NATO allies, too, are under pressure to meet spending commitments, fueling even more global procurement activity.
While Wall Street frets over possible Pentagon cuts to consulting services, Rewey isn't worried. "Procurement's still intact," he says &#8211; suggesting any slowdown fears are more bark than bite.
That's where Ducommun's balance sheet and "Vision 2027" come into play. With a plan to expand both revenue and margins through 2027, and a track record of 18% book value compounding over five years, Rewey sees Ducommun as a stealth growth story in a noisy sector.
Forget picking between Boeing and Airbus &#8211; Rewey's bet is simple: own the company that builds both.

Boeing Vs. Airbus? The True Winner Supplies Them Both

As markets cheer Qatar&#8217;s massive $200 billion jet deal with Boeing Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>), economist Peter Schiff has a warning that has little to do with planes, and a lot more to do with America&#8217;s structural vulnerabilities.
What Happened: On Wednesday, Schiff highlighted the potential financial fallout of Boeing&#8217;s mega deal with Qatar, which involves acquiring 160 jets for its state-owned carrier, Qatar Airways. 
While acknowledging that this was &#8220;great for Boeing,&#8221; which hit a one-year high following the news, Schiff cautions that the transaction could come with a hidden cost for the U.S. economy.

He says that to help finance this purchase, &#8220;Qatar will likely sell a lot of Treasuries and other U.S. assets,&#8221; further straining the U.S. bond market that is already under pressure.
Schiff says that this capital reallocation might contribute to &#8220;pushing up inflation and interest rates in the U.S.,&#8221; which comes at a time when the Federal Reserve is already grappling with persistent inflationary pressures amid a ballooning Federal trade deficit.

Why It Matters: The deal, which is one of the largest jet purchases ever made, comes at a time of growing concerns regarding <a href="https://benzinga.com/markets/25/03/44267663/ray-dalio-warns-us-debt-crisis-could-trigger-shocking-developments-calls-to-reduce-deficit-at-3-of-gdp">America&#8217;s debt sustainability</a>. 
Early this week, economist Stephanie Pomboy <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45369770/whos-going-to-buy-2-trillion-worth-of-paper-macro-expert-calls-wall-street-rally-a-headline-sugar-rush-as-treasury-yield-spike-signals-bigger-trouble">raised similar concerns</a>, asking, &#8220;Who&#8217;s going to buy $2 trillion worth of paper?&#8221; with major buyers such as China pulling back.
As U.S. 30-Year Treasury yields approached 5%, analyst Gordon Johnson warned of a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/05/45399783/gordon-johnson-warns-of-potential-liberation-day-20-as-30-year-treasury-yields-approach-5-amid-dollar-weakness">potential &#8220;Liberation Day 2.0,&#8221;</a> as it risks jeopardizing $8 trillion in U.S. debt that is set to be refinanced in 2025. 
On Tuesday, Schiff too called out <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/bonds/25/05/45396490/peter-schiff-says-trade-truce-aside-the-world-is-losing-confidence-in-dollar-and-in-us-ability-to-put-fiscal-house-in-order">the rising yields</a> and the decline in the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) despite the trade truce with China early in the week, which he says is because &#8220;the world is losing confidence in the dollar,&#8221; and the country&#8217;s ability to get its fiscal house in order.
&#8220;The consequences of de-dollarization will be profound,&#8221; Schiff said, especially as the U.S. Treasury Department ramps up its borrowing, projecting $514 billion in net debt issues during this quarter, which is 317% over its own forecast of $123 billion, just two months ago.
Fund manager, Michael Kao, however, has a different take on this deal with Qatar, referring to it as &#8220;Petrodollar recycling,&#8221; while adding that the Petrodollar system &#8220;isn&#8217;t going away anytime soon,&#8221; in a post on X. Kao also included a list of multi-billion dollar transactions between U.S. companies and Middle-Eastern states to drive his point.

Price Action: Boeing shares were up 0.64% on Wednesday, trading at 204.72, and are up 0.67% after hours. The U.S. 10-Year and 30-Year Treasury yields continue to inch upward, at 4.536% and 4.968% at the time of writing this, respectively. 
The U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.23% on Wednesday, trading at 100.818, and is currently down 1.49% over the past four weeks, and 3.48% over the past 12 months.

Spirit Aerosystems Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPR#NYSE">SPR</a>) shares traded higher in the premarket on Monday following a definitive agreement with Airbus SE (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/EADSY#OTC">EADSY</a>) on Sunday to transfer ownership of specific assets and sites related to Airbus aerostructure production.
After the completion of this transaction, Airbus will assume ownership of the Spirit assets at the Kinston site in North Carolina, U.S. (A350 fuselage sections), the St. Nazaire site in France (A350 fuselage sections) and the Casablanca site in Morocco (A321 and A220 components).
The assets also include the production of A320 and A350 wing components in Prestwick, Scotland, the production of A220 pylons in Wichita, Kansas, U.S., and the production of A220 wings in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Spirit AeroSystems plans to sell its Subang, Malaysia site to a third party.
If no suitable buyer is found, Airbus will also take ownership of the production of the A220 mid-fuselage at the Belfast site.
Additionally, the assets in Subang, Malaysia, related to Airbus programs will be acquired by Airbus if no suitable buyer is identified before the transaction closes.
The compensation amount has been revised to reflect this updated transaction scope, consistent with the binding term sheet agreement announced on July 1, 2024.
As part of the deal, Spirit AeroSystems will pay Airbus $439 million, subject <a target="_blank" href="https://www.airbus.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-04-airbus-signs-definitive-agreement-with-spirit-aerosystems" rel="noreferrer noopener">to </a>certain closing adjustments.
Moreover, Airbus has signed a memorandum of agreement with Spirit AeroSystems, agreeing to provide non-interest-bearing lines of credit totaling $200 million to support Spirit AeroSystems&#8217; work on Airbus programs.
This divestiture is expected to close alongside Spirit&#8217;s previously disclosed acquisition <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/07/39567358/boeing-to-acquire-spirit-aerosystems-for-4-7b-after-months-of-negotiations" rel="noreferrer noopener">by </a><a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/07/39567358/boeing-to-acquire-spirit-aerosystems-for-4-7b-after-months-of-negotiations" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Boeing Company</a><a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/07/39567358/boeing-to-acquire-spirit-aerosystems-for-4-7b-after-months-of-negotiations" rel="noreferrer noopener"> (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BA#NYSE">BA</a>)</a>.
Both transactions are subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions, with an expected completion in the third quarter of 2025.

At the closing of this transaction, Airbus will take ownership of the following Spirit assets:
