Capricor Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CAPR#NASDAQ">CAPR</a>) stock is trading lower on Monday, with a session volume of 1.9 million compared to an average volume of 2.41 million, as per <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pro/feature/newsfeed" rel="noreferrer noopener">data from Benzinga Pro</a>.
According to a Friday media report, Vinay Prasad, director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), canceled the advisory committee meeting for the company's cell therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Earlier in June, the FDA&#8217;s Pre-License Inspection (PLI) of its San Diego manufacturing facility for Deramiocel, the company&#8217;s lead cell therapy candidate with a Biologics License Application (BLA) under FDA review for potential approval in the treatment of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/health-care" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD)</a>.
The FDA informed Capricor of its intent to hold the Advisory Committee meeting on July 30, 2025, although that date is pending confirmation by the FDA. At the time of the mid-cycle review, no significant issues or major <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/06/g45882991/capricor-therapeutics-announces-key-regulatory-updates-for-its-duchenne-muscular-dystrophy-program" rel="noreferrer noopener">deficiencies were noted</a>.
The BLA for Deramiocel remains under priority review with a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) action date of August 31, 2025.
STAT News <a href="https://www.statnews.com/2025/06/20/fda-ouster-top-gene-therapy-official-nicole-verdun-placed-on-leave-after-review-committee-canceled/">reported </a>that the FDA removed its top official overseeing cell and gene therapies shortly after a dispute with her superior over a treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The official, Nicole Verdun, had planned to convene an advisory committee meeting to evaluate a therapy developed by Capricor Therapeutics. However, to STAT, Prasad — her superior — doubted the treatment's effectiveness and canceled the meeting, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The report also noted that some sources described ongoing tensions surrounding Verdun's management style, adding uncertainty about the reasons she was placed on leave.
Since the report on Friday, Capricor stock has plunged almost 30%.
Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM), an advocacy organization, <a target="_blank" href="https://alliancerm.org/press-release/statement-on-the-departure-of-otp-director/" rel="noreferrer noopener">said</a> with five regulatory decisions pending on cell and gene therapy (CGT) products in 2025 and a burgeoning pipeline of nearly 2,000 CGT clinical trials ongoing globally, CBER and OTP must operate at the highest level of productivity, efficiency, and scientific rigor.
Price Action: CAPR stock is down 11.6% at $7.30 at the last check on Monday.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Why Have Bonds Struggled?</h3>
It all started with the 2020 pandemic recovery, when a "risk-on" mood emerged.
As stimulus measures boosted economic growth, investors fled safe-haven Treasuries and flocked to risk-on assets like equities.
The real damage accelerated in 2022, when the Federal Reserve launched its most aggressive rate-hiking cycle in decades. Bond prices collapsed as yields surged, marking the end of a four-decade bull run fueled by low inflation and near-zero interest rates since the 2008 financial crisis.
Even in the first half of 2022, as the S&amp;P 500 plunged 20.5%, long-duration Treasuries fell even harder—down 22.5%—highlighting how vulnerable bonds had become in a rising-rate environment.
The contrast grew starker in 2023 and 2024, when stocks entered a blistering bull market—posting back-to-back annual gains of 24% and 23%, the strongest two-year stretch since 1998. Bonds, meanwhile, remained under pressure as yields stayed elevated.
Behind the scenes, U.S. fiscal conditions worsened. Since the pandemic, the federal deficit has hovered near 6%-7% of GDP, far above historical norms. In 2025, credit rating agency Moody's stripped the U.S. of its last AAA rating, citing runaway spending and debt accumulation. Yields on 30-year Treasury bonds escalated at or near 5%. 
Adding fuel to the fire, President Donald Trump's sweeping fiscal package has pushed long-term projections deeper into the red. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill is expected to add $2.6 trillion to the deficit over the next decade.
Together, these forces have created a toxic mix for bonds: rising rates, sticky inflation, surging deficits and a loss of investor confidence in U.S. fiscal sustainability.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Will War Shift The Bond-Stock Balance?</h3>
With geopolitical risk surging after the U.S. struck Iran's nuclear facility on June 21, investors are asking a key question: Could a major war or energy crisis finally reverse bonds' historic underperformance versus equities?
According to Mark Cabana, rates strategist at Bank of America, the relationship between conflict and Treasury yields isn't straightforward. 
"UST yields often don&#8217;t decline with higher geopolitical risks, especially if oil prices are rising," he said in a note shared Monday.
The critical factor, Cabana added, is whether the event materially damages the U.S. economy. 
"Our analysis of prior geopolitical events suggests an inconsistent response of USTs; we conclude that USTs often do not rally amidst geopolitical tensions and the directional move correlates with oil prices."
Bank of America's historical study, which includes major geopolitical flashpoints from the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait onward, found that Treasury yields actually rose about half the time in the month following such events. 
Often, these periods were accompanied by oil price spikes, which fueled inflation concerns and pushed yields higher—not lower.
Put simply, the bond market doesn't behave like a risk-off hedge when oil is surging.
That's why even a significant military escalation in the Middle East may not be enough to snap the bond market's underperformance streak versus equities.

For us long-term investors, we may find ourselves having to sell some stocks during a market drawdown.
It's an unpleasant thought I've had since early April, when the S&amp;P 500&nbsp;<a href="https://www.tker.co/p/bear-markets-in-context">fell by around 20%</a>&nbsp;from its Feb. 19 all-time high.
But does it always make sense to think of a 20% decline in your stock portfolio as a loss?

A common answer is that it's not a loss until you sell. This is the distinction between a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/04/021204.asp">realized loss and an unrealized loss</a>.
But even if you sell during a bear market, do you really lose 20%?
For many long-term investors, there's a case to be made that the answer is&nbsp;no.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Reframing how we think about market drawdowns &#x1f914;</h2>
At its April 7 intraday bottom, the S&amp;P 500 reached a low of 4,835.04. This was the lowest level since Jan. 19, 2024.
In the context of my personal stock portfolio, which almost totally consists of purchases of S&amp;P 500 index funds, I made three observations at the time:
<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>All of my trades since January 2024 were in the red.</li>
<li>All of my trades from 2005, when I opened my first 401(k) account, through 2023 were profitable.</li>
<li>I put much more money to work from 2005 to 2023 than I did from 2024 to 2025.</li>
</ul>

Over 95% of the contributions I've made to my retirement accounts occurred when the stock market was much lower than the April 2025 low.
This means I still earned a substantial positive return investing in the stock market throughout my adult life. Even the purchases I made near market peaks before the global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic were significantly profitable trades.
This is a roundabout way of saying that I'm thinking more about my&nbsp;<a href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/costbasis.asp">cost basis</a>. Since I made most of my purchases when the stock market was much lower than where it's trading today, my average cost basis is very low.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">This doesn't actually change anything, Sam &#x1f928;</h2>
To be clear, reframing how you think about the performance of your investments does not change the actual performance of your investments.
Sure, I'm still very much in the money. But there's also no denying that at the April 7 low, the value of my portfolio was still down about 20% from its peak.
If you are a stone-cold, totally rational investor, then this discussion was perhaps a waste of time. But I think most of us benefit from some perspective when faced with jarring drops in our portfolios.
For me, thinking about how much I'm up relative to my cost basis has been much more positive on my mental health than thinking about how much I'm down from the market's peak.

An early-access version will launch later this year for prototyping and partner feedback, with a fully certified release planned for late 2026.
The platform will be showcased at the Automobil-Elektronik Kongress on June 24–25 in Ludwigsburg, Germany. 
QNX COO John Wall said the project aims to &#8220;build smarter, safer vehicles, faster,&#8221; while Vector President Matthias Traub called it a step toward empowering the entire automotive ecosystem to create the next generation of intelligent vehicles.
