Major indexes are trading with mixed results. Several major companies in key sectors reported earnings this week which may be weighing on markets.

The U.S. stock market experienced subdued price action on Friday as investors adopted a cautious stance following disappointing inflation data earlier in the week and in anticipation of the Federal <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42489039/feds-december-meeting-could-crush-rate-cut-optimism-for-2025">Reserve&#8217;s Dec. 18 meeting.</a>
The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 was the only major index to post gains, rising 0.4%. Yet, after briefly climbing to 21,900 points shortly after the market opened, tech stocks lost momentum and retreated by about 0.8%.
Other indices declined, with only a handful of sectors, such as utilities and healthcare, eking out marginal gains — highlighting a broader shift away from risk assets.
The market&#8217;s unease appears tied to diminished expectations for interest rate cuts in 2025, compounded by the possibility of hawkish commentary from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, particularly in light of the latest November&#8217;s inflation reports.
Treasury yields rose for the fifth day in a row, with the benchmark 10-year note climbing to 4.40%, its highest level in three weeks. 
The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) dropped 0.9%, hitting a three-week low and marking its fifth consecutive daily decline. For the week, the TLT ETF has lost over 4%, on track for its worst performance since mid-October 2023.
Meanwhile, the U.S. dollar index (DXY) held steady, with the greenback strengthening against the yen for a fifth straight session. Gold prices slipped for the second consecutive day.
In the commodity markets, oil prices rose 1.7%, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude reaching $71 per barrel.
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) gained 1.8%, climbing to $101,800 and nearly erasing all of Thursday&#8217;s losses.

Wall Street Retreats As Treasuries Suffer Worst Week In Over A Year, Broadcom Soars, Bitcoin Rebounds: What's Driving Markets Friday?

Risk sentiment soured on Thursday following hotter-than-expected producer inflation data, which dampened optimism for aggressive interest rate cuts in 2025. Adding to the uncertainty, an unexpected rise in jobless claims cast doubt on the resilience <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42467265/stocks-fall-as-producer-inflation-spikes-jobless-claims-jump-what-is-happening-here">of the U.S. labor market.</a>
Major U.S. stock indices were in the red during midday trading in New York. The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.4%, retreating from its record highs reached in the previous session, while small caps underperformed as the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/IWM#NYSE">IWM</a>) dropped 1%.
The Producer Price Index surged to 3% year-over-year in November, its highest level since February 2023, outpacing both forecasts and the upwardly revised 2.6% from October. On the labor front, weekly jobless claims rose by 17,000 to 242,000, exceeding consensus estimates of 220,000.
Treasury yields ticked higher, with the 10-year benchmark yield climbing 4 basis points to 4.31%, as investors placed greater emphasis on the robust inflation reading. However, expectations for a 25-basis-point rate cut at the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting remained intact, with Fed futures pricing in a 98% probability.
In currency markets, the U.S. Dollar Index, as measured by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>), edged up 0.1%, while gold prices slid more than 1%.
Natural gas prices soared nearly 5%, reaching levels not seen since late October 2023, after a steep storage draw fueled buying momentum.
In cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) traded modestly higher, up 0.3% to $101,500, while Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) gained 3.1%.

<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42436676/inflation-rises-as-expected-in-november-sustain-hopes-for-next-weeks-fed-interest-rate-cut">An inline November inflation report</a> unleashed a surge of bullish momentum across markets on Wednesday.
Traders priced in near-certainty of a 25-basis-point rate cut at next week's Federal Reserve meeting, fueling optimism for a<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42436676/inflation-rises-as-expected-in-november-sustain-hopes-for-next-weeks-fed-interest-rate-cut"> more accommodating monetary policy.</a>
The Consumer Price Index rose by 2.7% year-over-year in November, matching expectations. Core inflation — excluding volatile items such as energy and food — remained steady at 3.3%.
Tech stocks took center stage as the Nasdaq 100 rallied 1.7%, notching a fresh record high and logging its best session in over a month. The so-called &#8220;Magnificent Seven&#8221; mega-cap stocks were the driving force behind the gains.
The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MAGS#NASDAQ">MAGS</a>) jumped 2.6%, its best performance since Nov. 6, eyeing its eighth positive session in the last nine trading days.
Six of the seven mega-cap tech giants hit record highs, with the group's combined market cap reaching a staggering $17.3 trillion. Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) was the sole exception among the elite names.
The S&amp;P 500 joined the rally, climbing 0.9% and nearing its all-time highs. Small-cap stocks added 0.7%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average remained flat, lagging behind its peers.
Improving rate-cut expectations — fed futures now almost fully pricing in a 25-basis-point rate cut next week — supported gold, with the yellow metal rising 0.9% to 2,717 per ounce, heading for a fourth straight session of gains.
Bullish sentiment returned to the crypto market, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rallying 4% to above $100,000 again, almost erasing losses from prior two sessions. 
Oil prices rose more than 2% on Wednesday, even as OPEC downgraded its global demand outlook for both 2023 and 2024.

Nasdaq 100 Rallies To Record Highs, Magnificent 7 Market Cap Tops $17 Trillion, Bitcoin Soars To $100,000: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?

The U.S. stock market lacked direction on Tuesday morning as investors stayed on the sidelines ahead of Wednesday&#8217;s release of November inflation data, a critical report that could influence the Federal Reserve&#8217;s decision on a potential interest <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/interest-rates">rate cut next week.</a>
Large-cap indices hovered near unchanged levels, while small caps slightly outperformed, with the Russell 2000 up 0.3%. 
Notable strength was seen in discretionary and communication services, buoyed by impressive gains in Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>) and Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GOOGL#NASDAQ">GOOGL</a>).
Tesla shares surged 4.7%, bringing the electric vehicle maker within striking distance of its all-time high set in November 2021. Alphabet Inc. rallied 4.9% after the tech giant announced the launch of its Willow quantum chip, which boasts an impressive 105 qubits. 
While some major tech names rallied, the broader tech sector faced headwinds, particularly semiconductors, which were weighed down by weaker-than-expected earnings, disappointing Chinese trade data and lingering concerns over U.S. trade restrictions and tariffs.
The broader iShares Semiconductor ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SOXX#NASDAQ">SOXX</a>) fell 2.1%, eyeing its worst day since mid November. 
The cryptocurrency market took a negative turn, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) falling 2.8% to trade below $95,000. This followed a 3.7% decline on Monday, signaling mounting pressure in the digital asset space. 
Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) plummeted 3.7% after a 7.3% drop on Monday. 
Commodities broadly gained. Gold prices rallied 1.3% as investors sought safe-haven assets, while crude oil gained 0.9%.

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is on course to finish the week in negative territory, highlighting a divergence in performance among major U.S. indices.
Shares of Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/META#NASDAQ">META</a>) surged 3% on Wednesday, extending their weekly gain to over 9%, marking the stock's best week since late January. The rally followed a U.S. appeals court decision upholding the Jan. 19 deadline for TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to divest the app over national security and data privacy concerns. TikTok's appeal was rejected, leaving the U.S. Supreme Court as its final recourse.
The consumer discretionary sector emerged as Friday's best performer, fueled by further gains in Amazon.com Inc. In macro news, November nonfarm payrolls rose by 227,000, beating consensus estimates, while the unemployment rate edged higher to 4.2%, as expected. Wage growth slightly outpaced forecasts, signaling <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/12/42363278/us-economy-adds-227000-jobs-in-november-wage-growth-accelerates">resilience in the labor market.</a>
Meanwhile, the University of Michigan&#8217;s consumer sentiment index climbed to its most optimistic level since April but hinted at growing concerns about near-term inflation, reflecting a mixed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s/24/12/42366245/consumer-sentiment-hits-7-month-high-but-inflation-fears-divide-democrats-republicans">sentiment among U.S. consumers.</a>
The U.S. dollar gained traction, with the dollar index rising 0.3% despite market participants raised expectations of an interest rate cut at the Federal Reserve's Dec. 18 meeting. Treasury yields eased, reflecting bolstered expectations of policy easing.
Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee hinted at upcoming Federal Reserve meetings being "close calls" between cutting rates or holding steady, keeping traders on edge.
Commodities saw muted moves on Friday. Gold prices were flat, consolidating near recent levels, while crude oil slid 1.2%. 
The cryptocurrency market lit up on Friday, driven by significant gains in major digital assets. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), for example, surged over 4%, breaching the $101,500 level at last check Friday. 
Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) rallied 6%, reflecting robust investor appetite across the sector.

The S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 edged up by 0.1%, extending their record-high levels, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.3%. Small-cap stocks underperformed, with the Russell 2000 declining 0.8%.
Airline stocks emerged as a standout industry, buoyed by American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAL#NASDAQ">AAL</a>), which surged by a staggering 16% after the company raised its quarterly growth forecast on robust travel demand. 
Shares of United Airlines Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UAL#NASDAQ">UAL</a>) gained 5%, while Delta Air Lines Inc. Tech Stocks Extend Record Highs On AI Optimism, Marvell Rockets, Bitcoin Hovers Near $95,000: What's Driving Markets Wednesday?

Major indexes are higher amid strength in Salesforce and Pure Storage, which gained following their respective quarterly earnings reports.

The U.S. services sector experienced an unexpected slowdown in its growth momentum last month as respondents expressed caution regarding the economic impact of recent <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">elections and impending tariffs.</a>
The Services Purchasing Managers Index released Wednesday fell to 52.1% in November, down from a two-year peak of 56% in October, missing expectations of a slower deceleration to 55.5%, according to data from the Institute for Supply Management. 
&#8220;The decrease in the Services PMI&nbsp;in November was driven by decreases in each of the four directly impacting subindexes – Business Activity, New Orders, Employment and Supplier Deliveries,&#8221; stated Steve Miller, chair of the ISM Services Business Survey Committee.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">November ISM Services PMI: Key Highlights</h3>
<ul>
<li>The broader ISM Services PMI index recorded its fifth straight month of expansionary conditions in November, albeit at a slower speed compared to October. The survey results reinforce the view that the services sector &#8220;has returned to sustained growth,&#8221; Miller said. </li>
<li>The subindex for Business Activity eased from 57.2% in October to 53.7% in November.</li>
<li>The subindex for New Orders eased from 57.4% to 53.7%.</li>
<li>The subindex for Prices inched up from to 58.1% to 58.2%. </li>
<li>The subindex for Employment fell from 53% to 51.5%.</li>
</ul>
 &#8220;Generally, respondents' comments were neutral to positive, and both positive and negative impacts were attributed to seasonality,&#8221; Miller said. 
&#8220;Election ramifications and tariffs were mentioned often, with cautionary outlooks related to the potential impact on respondents' specific industries,&#8221; he added. 
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Market Reactions</h3>
The U.S. dollar index (DXY) — as tracked by the Invesco DB USD Index Bullish Fund ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/UUP#NYSE">UUP</a>) — fell in the aftermath of the ISM report and erased session gains.
Treasury yields also reversed their trend and flattened across the curve, with the 10-year yield returning to 4.23%, down from 4.27% hit earlier in the day. 
Stocks maintained modest early morning gains, with the S&amp;P 500 — tracked by the SPDR S&amp;P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) — up by 0.2%.
Blue chips, as monitored through the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DIA#NYSE">DIA</a>), also inched up by 0.2%. US Services Sector Growth Cools More Than Expected In November As Businesses Show 'Cautionary Outlooks' On Tariffs

Walmart Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/WMT#NYSE">WMT</a>) shares are trading around their all-time high of $93.59 Wednesday morning on continued momentum after the company reported <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42060801/walmart-tops-q3-estimates-ecommerce-growth-shines-with-27-lifts-full-year-forecast">strong third-quarter results</a> in November and an improved FY25 outlook. The stock is trading higher by some 13% over the trailing month.
The retail giant reported adjusted EPS of 58 cents, exceeding Wall Street&#8217;s 53 cent consensus. Revenue reached $169.59 billion, a 5.5% year-over-year increase (6.2% at constant currency), beating expectations of $167.72 billion.
What To Know: The company's gross margin improved by 21 basis points, driven by stronger Walmart U.S. operations, increased membership income, and reduced eCommerce losses. Among highlights, eCommerce sales soared 27% globally, fueled by store pickup, delivery and marketplace growth.
U.S. same-store sales rose 5.3%, excluding fuel, with broad-based growth across physical and digital channels. Sam's Club recorded a 7% increase, led by food and health and wellness categories.
CEO Doug McMillon highlighted robust growth in-store, in pickup, and in delivery, emphasizing Walmart's value and convenience appeal. Cash flow remained strong at $22.9 billion for the nine months ending October 31.
Walmart raised FY25 adjusted EPS guidance to $2.42–$2.47 and boosted sales growth expectations to 4.8%–5.1%, up from prior forecasts, signaling continued momentum.

Risk-on sentiment gained momentum on Wall Street after the Thanksgiving holiday, fueled by investor optimism over fourth-quarter profit forecasts for U.S. corporations, lifting both the S&amp;P 500 and Dow Jones <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">to fresh record highs.</a>
The S&amp;P 500 broke past the 6,040-point mark on Friday and closed at 6,032, extending its year-to-date gains to an impressive 27%. If the year ended on Friday, the broader U.S. stock market would have surged by a staggering 57% over the last two years, representing the strongest such rally since 1998. 
The Dow Jones also hit a record-high milestone, surging above the 45,000 level and bringing its year-to-date gains to 19%.
Technology stocks outperformed, with the Nasdaq 100 rising 1% on the day, buoyed by gains in the Magnificent Seven mega caps and semiconductor stocks.
Small caps stocks posted more modest gains, as the Russell 2000 index edged up 0.4%.
In the currency market, the U.S. dollar snapped its eight-week winning streak, pressured by a drop against the Japanese yen amid speculation of a possible Bank of Japan interest rate hike.
In the bond market, Treasury yields edged lower by about 5 basis points, with the 10-year yield approaching 4.2%, a level not seen since late October. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TLT#NASDAQ">TLT</a>) rallied 1%, reaching over one-month highs.
Commodities also saw a positive price action. Gold rose 0.8%, marking its fourth consecutive session of gains, and silver jumped 1.4%. Natural gas prices spiked 4.9%, ending the month with a 24% surge. The underperformer was crude, which eased 0.2%.

<li>U.S.-listed shares of Brazilian companies sold off heavily as investors were disappointed by the latest fiscal reform from the Lula government. Shares of Nu Holdings Ltd. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NU#NASDAQ">NU</a>), StoneCo Ltd. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STNE#NASDAQ">STNE</a>) and XP Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XP#NASDAQ">XP</a>) tumbled by 7.2%, 9.1% and 9.2%, respectively. </li>
<li>Tesla Inc. S&P 500, Dow Rally To Record Highs, Dollar Snaps 8-Week Streak, Bitcoin Soars Above $97,000: What's Driving Markets Friday?

Major indexes are higher. Chips stocks have gained today amid reports of softer China sanctions.

Major indexes are lower after the core PCE price index was in line with estimates. Multiple large tech stocks also dropped following quarterly earnings.

Global markets faced turbulence by midday Wednesday as an unwinding of yen-dollar carry trades drove sharp losses in U.S. equities, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 falling <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets">1.2% in intraday trading.</a>
Rising expectations that the Bank of Japan may raise interest rates in December pushed the dollar-yen pair down by 1.5%, marking its steepest drop since late September. This triggered a wave of &#8220;risk-off&#8221; sentiment, pressuring major indices.
The S&amp;P 500 dipped 0.5% by midday, on track to snap a seven-day winning streak, while small caps in the Russell 2000 remained relatively steady. Treasury yields fell significantly as fresh economic data failed to stoke concerns about an imminent change in the Federal Reserve's interest rate path.
The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized 2.8% in the third quarter, according to a second estimate that matched earlier print. October's Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, the Fed&#8217;s preferred inflation gauge, also came in line with forecasts, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/24/11/42220106/dollar-treasury-yields-stocks-fall-in-tandem-after-october-inflation-uptick">showing a modest uptick.</a>
Traders continue to bet on easier monetary policy, with Fed funds futures pricing in a 70% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the Dec. 18 meeting.
In commodities market, gold inched up by 0.2%, while oil prices fell by 1% to $68 a barrel, heading for a three-day decline. Natural gas plummeted 7%, amid less cold weather forecasts reducing the outlook for heating demand.
Meanwhile, cryptocurrencies reversed their recent losing streak. Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) rallied nearly 5% to above $96,000, while Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>) surged more than 7%, hitting price levels last seen in late June 2024.

(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MRVL#NASDAQ">MRVL</a>) and Arm Holdings plc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ARM#NASDAQ">ARM</a>) were among the weakest performers, with drops of about 4.4%.</li>
<li>Crypto-linked stocks rebounded after sharp drops witnessed a day earlier. Shares of Bit Digital Inc.
