Chinese EV maker&nbsp;XPeng&nbsp;Inc.&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/XPEV#NYSE">XPEV</a>) stock gained on Wednesday after reporting its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/05/g45537004/xpeng-reports-first-quarter-2025-unaudited-financial-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">fiscal first-quarter</a> results.
The company reported&nbsp;quarterly sales growth of&nbsp;141.5%&nbsp;year-on-year to 15.81 billion Chinese yuan&nbsp;($2.18&nbsp;billion), topping the&nbsp;analyst consensus estimate&nbsp;of&nbsp;16.02 billion Chinese yuan.
The&nbsp;Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>)&nbsp;rival&#8217;s quarterly vehicle deliveries increased&nbsp;330.8%&nbsp;Y/Y to 94,008.&nbsp;

XPeng&#8217;s physical sales network&nbsp;had 690&nbsp;stores, covering 223&nbsp;cities as of March 31, 2025.
XPeng&#8217;s&nbsp;self-operated&nbsp;charging&nbsp;station&nbsp;network reached 2,115&nbsp;stations&nbsp;as of&nbsp;March 31, 2025. Revenues from vehicle sales increased&nbsp;159.2%&nbsp;year over year to&nbsp;14.37 billion Chinese yuan ($1.98 billion) due to higher deliveries.
Gross margin was&nbsp;15.6% versus&nbsp;12.9% a year ago. Vehicle margin was&nbsp;10.5% versus&nbsp;5.5% a year ago, primarily attributable to the cost reduction and economies of scale driven by the increase in sales volume.&nbsp;
The EV maker said its gross margin has increased for seven consecutive quarters.
Operating&nbsp;loss for the quarter was&nbsp;1.04 billion Chinese yuan ($0.14 billion). Adjusted&nbsp;net loss per ADS was 0.45 Chinese yuan. In USD terms, the adjusted EPADS was a loss of 6 cents.
The&nbsp;company held&nbsp;$6.24 billion&nbsp;in cash and equivalents&nbsp;as of March 31, 2025.
Chair and CEO Xiaopeng said, &#8220;Despite seasonality for auto sales, our quarterly deliveries hit a new historical high, making us the top-selling automaker among emerging EV companies. Positive market feedback strengthened our confidence in our three-year product cycle. We remain committed to our steadfast long-term growth strategy and continue to launch more blockbuster products.&#8221;
Outlook: XPENG projects second-quarter vehicle deliveries between 102,000 and 108,000 units, reflecting&nbsp;a surge of 237.7%-257.5% Y/Y.
The company anticipates revenue of 17.5 billion Chinese yuan to 18.7 billion Chinese yuan, versus the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">analyst consensus estimate</a> of 16.85 billion Chinese yuan.
Price Action: XPEV shares are up 6.65% at $20.99 premarket at the last check on Wednesday.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LUV#NYSE">LUV</a>) has announced that all passengers will be required to keep portable chargers in plain sight when in use for safety reasons.
What Happened: The airline announced the change in policy, which would go into effect on May 28, 2025, as it tries to curtail incidents involving lithium batteries catching on fire mid-flight.
"Southwest will introduce a first-in-industry Safety policy on May 28 requiring Customers to keep portable charging devices visible while in use during flight. Using portable charging devices while stored in a bag or overhead bin will no longer be permitted. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of its Customers and Employees." the airline shared in a statement.
Why It Matters: The airline is the first in the U.S. to adopt this policy amid an increasing number of incidents of lithium-ion batteries catching fire. Earlier this year, all passengers on an Air Busan flight in Korea on its way to Hong Kong were evacuated following an incident where a power bank caught fire in the overhead bins.

After grappling with regulatory hurdles, rising capital costs, and rapidly declining costs of renewables like solar, Cathie Wood&#8216;s Ark Invest highlights in its new research that nuclear energy can potentially emerge as the lowest-cost source of electricity, outcompeting solar.
What Happened: A new research note from Sam Korus, the director of research for autonomous technology and robotics at Ark, published on May 14, highlights that nuclear power&#8217;s promise of reliable baseload energy was overshadowed by soaring expenses, particularly after the 1970s.
While solar costs have plummeted, Ark Invest&#8217;s analysis highlights a crucial, often overlooked factor: utilization rates.
&#8220;A quick glance suggests nuclear wouldn&#8217;t be as low as solar on a cost-per-watt basis,&#8221; the research note explains, &#8220;but importantly, the first glance misses a key point: nuclear plants operate at more than 80% utilization, while solar plants operate at a capacity utilization rate in the low 20s%.&#8221;
When adjusted for this, the playing field dramatically shifts, explains Korus in his research.
The research proposes four potential cost scenarios for nuclear, with the most optimistic envisioning a &#8220;step-change cost decline to pre-1975 nuclear cost trendline.&#8221;
This discontinuous drop, driven by new companies like Oklo Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/OKLO#NYSE">OKLO</a>), could lead to overall capital costs of approximately $3.3 trillion, making nuclear power the lowest-cost option.
Korus adds, &#8220;The future of nuclear energy depends upon costs. If a company were to achieve a discontinuous decline in costs, nuclear power could emerge as the lowest-cost source of electricity.&#8221;
