"We delivered a great 2024 with all three businesses going back to strong, double-digit growth, exceeding our original guidance. It was also our second consecutive year of annual positive profit, with all three of our businesses recording positive adjusted EBITDA," said Forrest Li, Sea's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
On e-commerce, he said, "GMV grew 28% year-on-year to surpass US$100 billion, and we achieved adjusted EBITDA profitability in both Asia and Brazil. We remain confident about our ability to continue delivering profitable growth in 2025 and expect Shopee's full year 2025 GMV growth to be around 20%, with improving profitability."
Regarding digital financial services, Mr. Li shared, "We delivered exceptional loan book growth of more than 60% year-on-year in the fourth quarter, surpassing US$5 billion as of the end of 2024, making us one of the largest consumer lending businesses in Southeast Asia. While we have scaled fast, risk management remains to be our top operational priority. In 2025, we expect loan book size to grow meaningfully faster than Shopee's GMV annual growth rate, as we improve credit penetration both on- and off-Shopee."
On digital entertainment, Mr. Li said, "2024 was a great year for Garena, marking Free Fire's remarkable comeback with annual bookings growing at 34% year-on-year. Looking ahead into 2025, we will continue scaling our user base and broadening our content offerings. We now expect Garena to grow double digit year-on-year, for both user base and bookings in 2025."

AI Detection firm, Copyleaks has found that the text generated by DeepSeek-R1 and OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT has &#8220;Stylistic overlaps&#8221; in 74.2% of instances.
What Happened: A study conducted by Copyleaks showed that Chinese start-up firm, DeepSeek-R1&#8217;s text generation closely mirrored OpenAI&#8217;s style in over 74% of cases. This suggests that DeepSeek may have relied on OpenAI's model during its training without authorization, according to the report.
The study employed three AI classifiers to accurately analyze stylistic fingerprints, allowing for model-specific attribution. This plays a vital role in safeguarding intellectual property and fostering ethical AI development.
DeepSeek and OpenAI did not immediately respond to <a href="http://pro.benzinga.com">Benzinga&#8217;s</a> request for comment. 
Interestingly, the written text produced by most other models was easily identifiable as unique to each one, except DeepSeek. For instance, Microsoft&#8216;s (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSFT#NASDAQ">MSFT</a>) Phi-4 and Grok-1 models exhibited no similarities to existing models, confirming it was trained independently.
The majority of DeepSeek&#8217;s outputs were identified as being generated by OpenAI&#8217;s models. &nbsp;&#8220;While this similarity doesn&#8217;t&nbsp;definitively prove or declare DeepSeek&nbsp;as a derivative, it does&nbsp;raise questions about its development,&#8221; said&nbsp;Shai Nisan,&nbsp;Head of data science at&nbsp;Copyleaks.

The sheer variety of elements—such as architecture, fine-tuning methods and generation techniques—ensures that each LLM develops a distinct writing style,&#8221; explains Nisan.
The DeepSeek-R1 and OpenAI similarity issue underscores the need for clear regulations and transparency in AI development to prevent potential misuse and protect intellectual property. It also brings into question DeepSeek R1&#8217;s perceived level of innovation.
Nisan cautioned that this could have significant implications for the AI industry, if not regulated.
