Gearing up for a fight over processing bandwidth, a Chinese provider of cloud services has applied to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with global ambitions to help empower the next phase of the AI revolution.
In its&nbsp;<a href="https://www1.hkexnews.hk/app/sehk/2025/107464/documents/sehk25062001135.pdf">prospectus</a>, PPLabs Technology Ltd.,&nbsp;the parent of cloud services provider PPIO, cited plans to upgrade its AI-related services and develop its overseas presence in distributed cloud computing. The company describes itself as as pioneer of cloud services in China for AI tasks, ranking second among independent providers for average daily use.
The daily consumption rate in May reached 141.9 billion tokens, the system used by the computing industry to measure and price its operations.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Second chances</h4>
Company founder Yao Xin is no stranger to the tech industry. As a graduate student at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Yao founded China's earliest online video platform in 2005. PPLive Media, later rebranded as PPTV, made its debut a year before YouTube, raising $700 million in capital before being sold to retailer Suning in 2014. At that point Yao paused his entrepreneurial activities.
Returning with the launch of PPIO in 2018, he focused the new business on an aspect of cloud computing that was not yet dominated by tech giants. The company set out to specialize in distributed edge computing, which aims to process data close to where it is generated.
The moves reflect shifting dynamics in cloud computing with the transformative advent of artificial intelligence. The costs of rolling out extrapolative AI systems and the challenge of allocating computing resources to them are causing bottlenecks. A capacity battle is brewing over the responsiveness to AI requests, in which edge computing can offer a proximity advantage.
Take the example of a Beijing user interacting with an AI assistant. If the task is handled at a U.S. data center, response delays are hard to avoid, even with optimized network transmission. However, a request routed via a node in Beijing or Hebei could be processed more like a real-time experience, which is particularly critical for voice, video, or gaming applications.
According to China Insights Consultancy, the edge cloud computing market in China is set to reach 37 billion yuan ($5.16 billion) in revenue by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22.9% from 2024 to 2029. The global market was projected to achieve a CAGR of 68.5% over the same period, reaching 427.7 billion yuan in 2029.
Companies offering edge cloud services could become vital links in the AI industry chain, connecting infrastructure providers such as telecom operators with suppliers of processing hardware while packaging and distributing computing power along the way, and supporting AI developers.
PPIO has built a distributed computing network covering more than 1,200 cities and 4,000 nodes worldwide through its own infrastructure and partnerships.&nbsp; Using a scheduling platform developed in house, the network enables AI tasks to be automatically routed to the nearest available resource.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">An Airbnb model?</h4>
The business monetizes the market in three ways. Firstly, computing power resources are provided to developers on demand, with billing based on duration or the tokens consumed. This income stream accounts for around 70% of revenue. In edge node services, idle hardware from enterprises or developers is co-opted into the node network, generating revenue through shared computing power. The company also offers customized AI applications, including services for small-model reasoning and systems to distribute content to nearby networks.
With its business still in the expansionary phase, PPIO has yet to break even. Still, it compares favorably to some cloud service startups, with relatively contained losses and a gross profit margin above 10%.
Figures in the IPO filing show that its turnover and losses have both been rising. The company logged revenues of 286 million yuan in 2022, increasing to 358 million yuan a year later and jumping nearly 56% in 2024 to 558 million yuan, a CAGR over the period of nearly 40%. Gross profit margins were 16.1%, 17.7% and 12.3%, while losses amounted to 85 million yuan, 189.4 million yuan and 293.5 million yuan, totaling around 568 million yuan for the three-year period.
The way PPIO aggregates idle processing resources and uses multi-node scheduling for AI tasks is similar to Airbnb approach of utilizing idle rooms. The PPIO model is suited for use with AI agents and for visual tasks or low-latency interactive scenarios.
However, distributed architectures also face challenges when it comes to regulation, standardization and service stability. Market competition is also intensifying, as major tech players step into the arena. Aside from direct rivals such as UCloud,&nbsp;Alibaba&nbsp;(BABA.US; 9988.HK),&nbsp;Baidu&nbsp;(BIDU.US; 9888.HK) &nbsp;and&nbsp;Kingsoft Cloud&nbsp;(3896.HK) are building up their own AI computing power and edge nodes. To maintain its position, PPIO would need to stay ahead of the game for platform experience, pricing and international reach.
To that end, PPIO does need external financing to keep expanding and to avoid a liquidity crunch, having around only 114 million yuan in cash on hand and a net debt of 696 million yuan.
The streaming service PPTV, which never went public, could be viewed as a missed opportunity for founder Yao. The cloud computing firm PPIO offers a second chance at stock market success, if the company can effectively plug into the surging demand for AI computing.

Getting investors excited about anything related to banking in China looks like a tough sell right now, as lenders grapple with multiple issues flowing from the nation's sluggish economy.
And yet that's what&nbsp;Yusys Technologies Co. Ltd.&nbsp;(300674.SZ) is trying to do as it files for a Hong Kong IPO to complement its existing listing in Shenzhen. The big challenge for the Baidu-backed company will be finding ways to convince investors of the big potential for its business helping China's banks upgrade their technology, even if that potential may lie several years down the road.
Banking isn't a sexy business to begin with, and it isn't growing fast in China. The country's weak economy has softened demand for borrowing by both consumers and companies, dampening business for banks. Those same banks also need to be extra cautious about the loans they make to avoid getting hit by defaults from shaky borrowers. Such constraints are pressuring bank profits, leading them to spend less on third-party services like the ones Yusys supplies.
Yusys' financial performance is "directly exposed to risks inherent in the banking industry," the company said in its recently filed&nbsp;<a href="https://www1.hkexnews.hk/app/sehk/2025/107460/documents/sehk25061801848.pdf">IPO document</a>.
Yusys' latest annual results show how the growing chill for Chinese banks is infecting their third-party suppliers. The company's revenue dropped by a quarter to about 4 billion yuan ($557 million) last year, according to its prospectus filed last Thursday. It derives most of its revenue from services that help banks digitalize their operations, and its customers include China's "big four" national banks, as well as the country's monetary authority and policy lenders.
The big four banks' combined profit grew just 2% last year as they struggled to boost lending. Their weak loan growth was compounded by declines in interest margins as China's central bank cut interest rates to stimulate the economy. The outlook for banks continues to be bleak this year as well, as economic conditions in China remain gloomy despite various government efforts to stimulate spending.
Despite the falling revenue last year, Yusys managed to record net profit growth through a cost reduction campaign. It may resort to more cost-cutting this year to shore up its profits, even though such a strategy could undermine its longer-term prospects.
Leading last year's cost cuts were Yusys' 24% reduction in R&amp;D spending, the largest component of its operating expenses. More specifically, the company slashed expenses related to benefits for R&amp;D personnel, which account for more than 90% of spending for the category. Yusys attributed the steep cuts to its shifting resource allocation based on future plans and business requirements.
That hardly looks promising since Yusys is a technology company and thus needs to continuously enhance its offerings to retain existing customers and find new ones. Innovation is crucial for the company, particularly because it operates in a highly competitive sector. In its prospectus, the company says it is the largest listed provider of banking fintech services in China. But it also points out its market share is just 2%, showing there are lot of competitors looking to take away its business.
<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Firmly profitable</h4>
That said, Yusys may still appeal to investors looking for a company that has well-established operations and is firmly profitable. It has been around for quite some time, founded in 1999 and going public in New York eight years later, before privatizing in 2013. Five years later, it became a publicly traded company again by listing on Shenzhen's Nasdaq-style ChiNext board for growth companies. Its current investors include Baidu, which hold a 3.6% stake.
Yusys has served more than 1,000 customers in the last three years and has been profitable throughout that time. The company's business should indeed have strong demand, especially in the current market where China is encouraging companies to make technology upgrades as one of its many economic stimulus measures. Banks in China, and globally as well, are using technology like big data and AI to cut costs and improve the quality of their services and decision-making.
Technology spending by financial institutions across the world will increase about 11% annually over the next five years to reach $990 billion in 2029, according to a third-party projection included in Yusys' prospectus. That should bode well for Yusys and its peers, since a significant amount of that spending is expected to go to the purchase of technology services provided by outside companies.
Yusys has won some significant projects this year, including the development of a platform for data management, regulatory compliance and analytics for the London branch of a major bank.
Its services can be even more attractive for smaller financial institutions that lack internal resources to develop their own digital capabilities. In the first quarter of this year, a number of regional banks in China adopted the company's upgraded chatbot software.
Yet its customers are likely to rein in their own spending on third-party services as their business suffers in China's slowing economy. Yusys says it is looking to win more business from foreign banks to offset that risk, but its revenue from overseas customers is negligible for now.
Yusys' Shenzhen-listed shares have risen substantially since its Shenzhen IPO to trade at a healthy price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 47 and a decent price-to-sales (P/S) ratio of 5. By comparison, Tencent-backed&nbsp;Linklogis&nbsp;(9959.HK), which provides cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) platforms for supply-chain financing, is losing money and trades at a lower P/S ratio is 3.3. The China-listed shares of the big four state-run banks also trade at P/S ratios in the 3 to 4 range.
Whether Yusys can fetch a higher valuation than its peers with the Hong Kong listing could be challenging, since Hong Kong investors often value companies lower than their Mainland Chinese counterparts. The company's revenue is expected to return to growth this year, with seven analysts polled by Yahoo Finance forecasting an 11% rise to 4.4 billion yuan. But even with that growth, the figure would still be well below its 2023 revenue,
Such lackluster prospects may not win over investors to Yusys' IPO, especially as it makes its listing into one of the hottest – but also most crowded – IPO markets that Hong Kong has seen for several years.

Attention is shifting from cryptocurrencies to equities and publicly traded companies like Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HOOD#NASDAQ">HOOD</a>), Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/COIN#NASDAQ">COIN</a>), and Circle Internet Group (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CRCL#NYSE">CRCL</a>), which have surged ahead in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/etfs/broad-u-s-equity-etfs/25/06/46131195/cathie-woods-thursday-crypto-moves-ark-unloads-nearly-25-million-in-coinbase-block-stocks">performance over the past month</a>.
What Happened: In an X <a href="https://x.com/MilkRoadDaily/status/1938318830981570978">post</a> on June 27, Milk Road Daily pointed out this outperformance.
Circle has led the pack with a 162% return in the last 30 days, while Coinbase and Robinhood gained between 30% and 35% during the same period. 
Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>), Ethereum (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/eth/usd">ETH</a>), and Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>) logged negative returns ranging from -2% to -18% over the same timeframe.
Scarcity Meets Demand
There are relatively few crypto-linked public equities available, yet institutional and retail investors are hungry for exposure to crypto-adjacent plays, especially ones that have real revenue, growth potential and U.S. government support.
Token vs. Equity Market Dynamics
While equities benefit from limited supply and strong fundamentals, the token market is suffering the opposite fate as capital flows into tokens are muted compared to past cycles. 
At the same time, the number of tokens continues to explode, creating over-saturation and weakening price performance.
This mismatch of low demand and excessive supply is weighing heavily on altcoins, many of which are bleeding value despite brief speculative rallies.

Why It Matters: Crypto trader ResDegen <a href="https://x.com/resdegen/status/1937588394114142462">noted</a> that Robinhood, Circle, and Coinbase have clear business models, real revenue streams, and growing legitimacy with regulators. 
They offer a tangible value proposition that's drawing capital away from more speculative crypto assets.
As Kaizen <a href="https://x.com/KAIZ3NS/status/1936096315391312221">noted</a> on X, one of the defining features of this cycle is that only a handful of stocks and coins have shown real outperformance, namely crypto equities and a few large caps. 
TradFi currently has a stronger appetite for crypto-linked equities than for alt tokens.
Even Web3-native investors are beginning to shift their view. 
Trader David Arnal <a href="https://x.com/davidarngar/status/1936117933907787929">said</a> he considers Coinbase a safer long-term bet than even Bitcoin, citing teal revenue, government support and a market capitalization comparable to Solana. 
"COIN is the best stock to own for the next few months," he added.

The potential for Kalanick to re-engage with the Uber ecosystem he helped build could add a compelling dimension to the future of the autonomous driving landscape.
Price Action: PONY shares are trading higher by 25% to $14.55 this week. The stock has a 52-week high of $23.88 and a 52-week low of $4.11.

Rocket Lab Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/RKLB#NASDAQ">RKLB</a>) stock is moving higher Friday on possible continued momentum after the company launched its 67th Electron rocket on a dedicated mission for radio frequency geospatial <a href="https://www.benzinga.com//node/46119769">analytics provider HawkEye 360</a>.
The Details: The company said the mission, named "Get The Hawk Outta Here," successfully deployed four satellites to a 520 km circular low Earth orbit. The launch took place June 27 NZT from Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand, and marked the second of three dedicated launches for HawkEye 360 under a multi-launch contract.
"Today's launch for HawkEye 360 was another seamless ride to orbit for Electron, with four satellites deployed with absolute precision to support the growth of HawkEye 360's constellation in low Earth orbit," said Rocket Lab founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck.
Rocket Lab is now scheduling its next launch, "Symphony In The Stars," to take place less than 48 hours later on June 28 NZT. If successful, it will mark the fastest turnaround between missions in the company's history. The upcoming launch, Rocket Lab's 68th overall and tenth of the year, will deliver a single spacecraft to a 650 km circular Earth orbit for a confidential commercial customer.
