The U.S. defense budget just got a historic boost and Goldman Sachs believes a group of arms contractors could be primed for a surge in revenue, growth and market interest as the Pentagon begins deploying its <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/best-aerospace-defense-stocks">$156.2 billion in fresh funding.</a>
Following President Donald Trump's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/07/46263434/trump-signs-sweeping-tax-and-spending-bill-that-cbo-says-will-add-3-3-trillion-to-us-deficit-cut-health-coverage-for-11-8-million-americans">July 4th signing</a> of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," the Department of Defense is set to receive targeted appropriations for core programs such as shipbuilding, missile defense, nuclear systems and low-cost autonomous technologies.
In a note shared on Tuesday, Goldman Sachs analyst Noah Poponak identified four defense stocks that stand out as key beneficiaries of this legislation.
What's In The New Defense Budget?
Title II of the new legislation&#8217;s tax directs $156.2 billion in appropriations across 13 specific defense categories. Highlights include:

<li>$29.2 billion for shipbuilding</li>
<li>$24.4 billion for integrated air and missile defense (Golden Dome)</li>
<li>$25.4 billion for munitions and supply chain resilience</li>
<li>$16.0 billion for scaling low-cost weapons</li>
<li>$8.6 billion for air superiority initiatives</li>
<li>$10.8 billion for nuclear force modernization</li>
</ul>
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Goldman Sachs Says These Defense Stocks Could Soar</h3>
Goldman believes the funding will translate into new awards over the next few years, boosting bookings, organic growth, margins and capacity expansion for these key players:
Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HII#NYSE">HII</a>): Poponak said, "There is substantial support for the maritime workforce and supply chain in the Act," pointing to more than $5 billion in funding tied to industrial base and manufacturing process improvements. HII has already received a $1.3 billion workforce investment award this year, and Goldman expects more to follow, which is expected to lift shipbuilding margins in the near to medium term.
L3Harris Technologies Inc. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LHX#NYSE">LHX</a>): The Act allocates $24.4 billion to Golden Dome, and Goldman believes LHX is well positioned to win tech and satellite contracts in that program. "Aerojet Rocketdyne has technological moats around missile propulsion," the note said, adding that these capabilities align with additional munitions and propulsion funding in the bill.
Kratos Defense &amp; Security Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KTOS#NASDAQ">KTOS</a>): KTOS has invested heavily in lower-cost drones, propulsion systems and space equipment, all of which are central to the Pentagon's current procurement shift. "KTOS's emphasis on lower-cost, technically acceptable products that can be built at scale" matches the Department of Defense's push for affordable and mass-producible solutions.
AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVAV#NASDAQ">AVAV</a>): AVAV's tactical drones, including the Switchblade line, could benefit from the $1.4 billion allocated to small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS). The bill provides additional billions to test, develop and procure sUAS and commercial derivative tech, areas where AVAV is considered a front-runner.

Pentagon's $156-Billion Payday—These Defense Stocks Are Ready For Liftoff

ZyVersa Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ZVSA#NASDAQ">ZVSA</a>, "ZyVersa"))), a clinical stage specialty biopharmaceutical company developing first-in-class drugs for treatment of patients with renal and inflammatory diseases who have unmet medical needs, today announced its entry into a warrant inducement agreement with a single institutional investor of the Company. Terms of the warrant inducement agreement include the immediate exercise of Series A-2 Warrants to purchase up to 957,200 shares of common stock (the "Series A-2 Warrants") and Series A-3 Warrants to purchase up to 2,105,265 shares of common stock (the "Series A-3 Warrants," and together with the Series A-2 Warrants, the "Existing Warrants") at a reduced exercise price of $0.67. Gross cash proceeds were approximately $2.0 million before deducting financial advisor fees and other transaction expenses. The Company intends to use the net proceeds from the offering for working capital and other general corporate purposes.
In consideration for the immediate exercise in full of the Existing Warrants, the investor will receive new Series A-4 unregistered warrants in a private placement to purchase up to 6,124,930 shares of common stock (the "Series A-4 Warrants" or the "New Warrants"). The New Warrants will have an exercise price of $0.67 and will be initially exercisable on the date that stockholders approve the exercise of the New Warrants. The New Warrants will expire five years from the date of such approval. The closing of the warrant inducement transaction is expected to occur on or about July 9, 2025, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions.

Thanks to another strong showing for its second-quarter earnings report, semiconductor giant Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVGO#NASDAQ">AVGO</a>) has been one of the strongest performers among major publicly traded tech firms. On a year-to-date basis, AVGO stock has gained nearly 19%. Since the close of April 4, however, the security has nearly doubled in value. Still, with so much good news baked in, pessimists counter that AVGO carries too rich a premium.
Last month, Broadcom reported<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/earnings/25/06/45803595/broadcom-q2-earnings-revenue-eps-beat-estimates-driven-by-robust-demand-for-ai-networking-company-sees-acceleration-in-ai-revenue-ahead"> second-quarter revenue of $15 billion</a>, beating Wall Street's expectation of $14.99 billion. On the bottom line, the tech stalwart posted adjusted earnings of $1.58 per share, exceeding the consensus view of $1.56 per share.
Notably, total revenue was up 20% on a year-over-year basis, with continued momentum in semiconductor solutions in artificial intelligence and its VMware acquisition contributing the bulk of the performance spike. Furthermore, Broadcom generated approximately $6.56 billion in cash from operations and $6.41 billion in free cash flow during the quarter, reflecting robust profitability and high operational efficiency.
Given that Broadcom is a major supplier of AI infrastructure — particularly custom AI accelerators for hyperscale data centers — the tech juggernaut theoretically stands on fertile ground. According to a McKinsey &amp; Company<a href="https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/technology-media-and-telecommunications/our-insights/investing-in-the-rising-data-center-economy"> report</a>, U.S. data center demand could grow by approximately 10% a year until 2030. Furthermore, Morgan Stanley estimates that total<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/25/05/45533284/the-models-are-getting-better-but-theyre-also-more-likely-to-be-good-at-bad-stuff-tech-experts-sound-the-alarm-as-ai-charges-on"> generative AI revenue</a> could exceed $1.1 trillion by 2028, indicating a potentially compelling backdrop.
Despite AVGO stock rising on much-deserved accolades, success in the market also tends to attract skepticism. For the bears, heightened (possibly excessive)<a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AVGO/key-statistics/"> valuations</a> represent one of the key concerns. Right now, AVGO trades at over 100 times trailing-12-month earnings, a figure that has jumped from 89.11 times back on April 30 of this year.
To be fair, financial ratios are derived from non-stationary continuous scalar signals and must be taken as part of a broader context. Nevertheless, investors frequently monitor these ratios and may be tempted to rotate their profits into perceived discounted value plays.
Another risk centers on the core business itself. Currently, Broadcom's custom AI accelerators — known as application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) — are highly demanded because they serve specific workloads. However, by their very nature, ASICs cannot be reprogrammed to serve other purposes. Therefore, if customer needs evolve, Broadcom potentially faces obsolescence risks.
The Direxion ETFs: With sensible arguments on both sides of the table, traders interested in speculating on AVGO stock potentially have ample opportunities to do so. On the other end, the <a href="https://www.direxion.com/product/daily-avgo-bull-and-bear-leveraged-single-stock-etfs?utm_source=Referral&amp;utm_medium=Native&amp;utm_source_platform=Benzinga&amp;utm_campaign=LandI_Product_AVL-AVS">Direxion Daily AVGO Bear 1X Shares</a> (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AVS#NASDAQ">AVS</a>) seeks 100% of the inverse performance of the namesake security.
In both cases, the main purpose behind these specialized ETFs is to provide a convenient form of speculation. Typically, those interested in leverage or short positions must engage the options market. However, derivatives carry unique complexities that not all investors may wish to deal with. On the flipside, Direxion ETFs can be bought and sold like any other publicly traded security, thus mitigating the learning curve.
Still, prospective participants must be aware that leveraged and inverse ETFs carry certain risks. Primarily, these products tend to be more volatile than standard funds that track benchmark indices like the S&amp;P 500. In addition, Direxion ETFs are designed for exposure lasting no longer than one day. Holding such products beyond the recommended period may lead to value decay from daily compounding.
The AVL ETF: While the AVL ETF got off to an inauspicious start to the new year, it has rebounded tremendously since April, leading to a year-to-date gain of nearly 11%.

<li>The 2X bull fund is trading above both its 20-day exponential moving average and the 50 DMA, indicating robust demand.</li>
<li>Still, one area to watch out for is volume. Since June 11, acquisition volume has declined as the price increased, raising concerns of a possible correction.</li>

<li>It's possible that the velocity of bearishness has declined since late last month, possibly opening the door to a sentiment reversal.</li>

A Reddit user recently asked a question that got a lot of attention on r/stockmarketcrash: &#8220;Is it me, or does it seem like all Gen Z want a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/25/04/44679811/bearish-investor-warns-of-80-stock-market-crash-says-the-current-market-drop-is-a-trap-i-just-dont-think-this-is-it">market crash</a>, great reset?&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/stockmarketcrash/comments/1lq9uny/is_it_me_or_does_it_seem_like_all_gen_z_want_a/">post</a> quickly drew hundreds of replies, and while some confirmed the observation, many pointed out that Gen Z isn&#8217;t alone. Plenty of Gen Xers and Millennials chimed in to say they were feeling the same way.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Burn It Down So We Can Buy In?</h2>
One of the most upvoted comments captured the core sentiment: &#8220;They think they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. But they are too stupid to realize they are already losing freedoms they never knew we had.&#8221;

Another added, &#8220;They literally have nothing invested in this economy and if they want space to do that, they need a new economy.&#8221;
Many noted that while some Gen Zers want a crash so they can buy assets cheaply, most don't grasp what a real crash entails. &#8220;They think things are bad but they don't know how bad they can get,&#8221; one commenter wrote. &#8220;But a full-blown recession would lower prices.&#8221;
A Gen X user agreed, saying, &#8220;I&#8217;m a young Gen X and I want a recession for another reason. During a recession you have a reallocation of capital&#8230; I fear the longer we go without a recession, the worse it will be when it finally gets here.&#8221;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Desperation, Not Malice</h2>
Some commenters expressed sympathy for younger generations. One wrote, &#8220;The economic system does <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/05/45710102/robert-reich-says-ceo-pay-is-up-1085-since-1978-worker-pay-up-only-24-asks-why-is-it-always-we-cant-afford-workers-but-never-ceos">not work well for the majority of people</a>, with the results getting worse the younger the generation. It&#8217;s less about wanting everything to crash than it is about needing things to be better, and seeing that power-holders and older cohorts are unwilling to do what it takes to accomplish that.&#8221;

But I want stocks to give nice returns so I can retire one day,&#8221; one person commented.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Older, Wiser, Still Frustrated</h2>
Millennials and Gen Xers echoed similar frustrations, even if they were more realistic about what a crash would actually mean.
&#8220;Not a Gen Z. Gen X. I sure want this,&#8221; one wrote. When pressed for a reason, another user replied, &#8220;If you can buy two apples for $10 or two apples for $1, which is better?&#8221;

Others reminded people that crashes historically benefit the wealthy. &#8220;Whenever anyone is hoping for any type of crash&#8230; I just roll my eyes because in reality what happens is it just allows those at the very top to further consolidate their ownership of everything.&#8221;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">No One&#8217;s Really Ready</h2>
Despite the posturing, many doubted anyone's actually prepared. &#8220;They're not ready. They have no skin in the game and don&#8217;t understand what an actual, genuine crash would mean,&#8221; one person warned.
Still, the desire for change was palpable. As one poster put it, quoting an African proverb, &#8220;The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.&#8221;
